- Playing Ducktales 2. I did two runs here. The first was me remembering how to play. The second we get all the treasures and full map. Thanks to the chat for helping with some of the map finds. Very cryptic stuff.

This intro rant may be the greatest thing ever.
I really enjoyed your Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck comics history and deep-dive from years ago.
" oh, i don't have to accept shit"...love it
Mike seriously needs to do a "So you think you know Ducks?" video. The first 15 mins of this was truly epic. Take my idea Mike, the only thing I want in return is for you to open the video by saying "I'm gonna teach you how to give a duck."
I enjoy how much you hate things. It's refreshing.
😃
In Finland, until about the mid 2000s, basically any family with kids had a subscription to the weekly "Donald Duck" magazine, though it was very common for adults to read it as well. It was expected to be in households as much as the local newspaper. That's why pretty much everyone here, except for the newest generation, knows who Carl Barks is. When he visited the country in 1994, he got a rock star's welcome, it was on the news, and the government-owned media filmed a documentary about his visit.
"DuckTales! Woo-oo!" has been stuck in my head since the early 90s.
Every day they're out there making…
15:16 needs to be on a bumper sticker 😂
I remember that even as a five-year-old watching the old DuckTales cartoon, Launchpad's schtick of always crashing the plane got old fast.
No Donald Duck!?! The only thing worse than that would be taking the dog out of Scooby-Doo. How brain-dead would that be?
The people that say: "Just accept it." that's all complete nihilism. They don't care about the things you like. Until it's something THEY care about. Marvel Comics isn't Marvel Comics anymore, DC isn't DC anymore, why? Because people were not allowed to defend it. The customers all left.
For the last 10 or so years things were forced to change to spread certain ideas. It wasn't natural change, it was forced.
If the customers left how they make bank then? 💰
@@jamesc8259 They aren't making bank anymore, sure the movies did amazing until 2019 then they have been slowly falling off ever since endgame. The comics have been dead monetarily for almost a decade now
@@jamesc8259 This hasn't happened for a long time. The comic book market is dead, I wouldn't be surprised if DC completely shuts down comic book production in the next 5-10 years. Considering that the WB is on the verge of bankruptcy (they have debts of over $50 billion), they will have to close all unprofitable divisions, like DC comics.
Nobody needs Marvel comics for a long time either, nobody buys them. Everything in there is infected with sjw cringe.
Movies are still make box office, but less and less every year.
The comics industry has completely lost the battle to manga, which is becoming more popular every year.
@@jamesc8259 you just rewrite the laws so no one can compete with you, then grow so big that the government will bail you out if you ever get in trouble
The final boss music for this game is one of the best on the NES.
The opening 15-and-a-half minutes could easily work as their own video.
Damn that opening was fire
You got that passion for the Carl Barks comics and its awesome to see that on display
Some of my earliest memories of comics were finding some TMNT adventures comics at a yard sale as a young kid and my dad excitiedly digging out a handful of ratty Donald Duck, Mickey, and other similar cartoon comics he and my older brother had collected when they were growing up. As a dumb kid i shrugged it off but eventually I got around to reading then, and the Donald Duck was _Walt Disney's Comics and Stories 295_
Huey Dewey and Louie were all trying to help Scrooge and Donald trim trees at his lumber mill up north, but the real zinger was the last two stories. The Beagle Boys find one of them has the hiccups, so to try and cure it by doing something dangerous, they break out of jail and try and rob Scrooges new vault they heard about. The real story tho is Emeral Isle. Scrooge hears about a contest where the biggest emerald wins a cash prize. Thinking it has it in the bank, he rolls out one of his treasures, but Flintheart has a slightly bigger one and Scrooge panics traveling out to this mystical rumored place that Flintheart found it, and during and earthquake they find a secret cavern full of _Indiana Jones_ sized ball trap Emeralds. Theres tons of actual twists in each story and Id encourage anyone to try and track a copy down. Now that im a filthy manbaby nerd whos actually started collecting comics, i went back out and got another copy to replace my long lost copy and its still such a blast. And i still havent even started collecting the Fantagraphics books which just look gorgeous
i would recommend the “carl barks library in color” books. I think those are the best reprints by far. The fantagraphics books are out of order and the coloring isnt as good. You’d have to find lots on ebay, but thats the way to go.
@@mikematei oh absolutely but the real thing is that Art of Carl with all his painted work, *that's* the next book for my collection haha. Found a Tex Avery "behind the scenes" type book with similar vibes and I just love those treasury books of content you normally wouldn't see
The infamous duck tales 2 nobody has but everybody wants
Well u can get it on xbox consoles and ps4/ps5 via the disney afternoon collection game (unless they took if off the stores) which has both ducktales, rescue rangers 1 & 2, darkwing duck and talespin
I got it on Steam Deck 😎
I got it when I was a kid I have it stashed away
I have it on gameboy
I had the cart, but sold it about 7 years ago
Race cars lasers air planes.
Love all the lore exposition from Carl Barks comics. While Gladstone Gander is one of the most flanderized characters in the Duck Universe nowadays, in the old comics he could even lose to Donald which added a lot to the tension. One of the best examples I can think of Gladstone vs Donald is 'Trail of the Unicorn'.
No doubt the app directs you to every souvenir stand in the park.
Ducktales 3 with 8 bit style needs to
Happen. Same with chip and dale 3
agreed
I love when you talk about the similarities between this and Megaman, I was like "finally someone said it" I've noticed this before, the music, the graphcis, the sprites for the enemies etc....must just be a Capcom thing
Heuy is red. I always think of a red hue.
Dewy is blue. I always think of morning dew.
Louie is green. I always think of Louie lime.
I just remember "RGB," then switch the last two.
The game hasn't even started & Mike has made the 1st 15 minutes of this special
Those comics are the GOAT from Duck Tales
One of my all time favorites! Fond memories of climbing through the window after school & eating a pb & j or a bowl of cereal & watching this or ghostbusters and talespin for awhile too! Good choice for a play through!
@@Metal_Horrorha! No spare key!
I'll legit never look at the ducktales cartoon the same way again. I actually found some of the comics online and you were 100% right.
Try the carl barks books by fantagraphics someday.
@@mikematei will be my next move 👍
That Donald Duck book looks amazing.
Thanks for the video. You playing the game and telling Duck Tales stories feels great. Sort of escapism.
8:30 just gave us a free avgn episode
I mean their were a few episodes with Gladstone gander. But it makes sense
Life is like a hurricane.

Surprisingly the song even admits that billionaire Scrooge McDuck has the power to rewrite Duckburg's history.
I just make some Pancakes and I was watching DuckTales
Based on the 20 minute rant..I'm guessing he's not a darkwing duck fan, then?
Man, Mike is an encyclopedia on Duckworld.
Fans refer to it as the Duck-verse.
Awesome
If there was no Launchpad, there might not be any Darkwing Duck
When I was a kid I'd always ask my mom to record duck tales on vhs. I'd lose my absolute shit if she forgot. I had a great childhood looking back. 🙂
@@euphan123 She does. She'd still tease me about it if you brought it up today lol.

You could save a ton of money and just get drunk at home
The game is probably underrated/less well known just from coming out so late on the NES. Much fewer people would've had it just due to that. The original was huge; but it didn't get a quick followup like Megaman did (probably due to the other Disney Afternoon games going straight into production.) Magical Quest on SNES was already out by then, too.
As for characters, they were probably limited to what source materials Disney directly provided to them, and who knows what kind of wacky licensing terms they had to deal with (could've cost them per character.)
Also, it's generally better to make new stuff with the limitations of your game in mind vs. trying to squash something existing from a different medium down to fit and *hope* the distinctive features don't get totally lost in the process.
That intro was something else lol.
That print is so cool. Are you going to frame it? It deserves to be seen!
As a Disney shareholder, I nominate Mike to become CEO IMMEDIATELY!!!!
But will he cancel the Ducktales app, or will he fast-track it so he can swim in his own vault of money?
Those lithographs are really cool.
One of the best and hardest to find games on the NES.
Mid tier for hardest to find nes game
Good game, but not difficult at all. This is possibly the easiest Disney Capcom game on NES. Even easier than DuckTales 1 and Chip and Dale 2. The most difficult game among these is Talespin.
Always nice to see mike playing games he really enjoys on stream.
How come they made a Donald Duck game on super Nintendo but they never made any more DuckTales games
The show was over by that time so they weren’t pushing it anymore.

Recently got into Uncle Scrooge comics halfway because of your old Donald Duck comics overview video from years back (the other half being my first playthrough of DuckTales: Remastered).
Came to this video to see how different DT2 was from its predecessor, stayed for the epic Barks-pilling and Launchpad slander. I could probably stop watching past the first fifteen minutes and still leave the VOD satisfied. I peeped an episode of DuckTales weeks back (I'm a zoomer, so even reruns never aired when I was a child), and it definitely seems more kiddie-oriented compared to the Barks comics.
I do hope you make another Duck comic retrospective sometime soon, scripted or not, it'd be a treat to see.
The 90s Carl Barks Library in Color is the best set if you are looking to read them. Ebay is the way to get them.
Been waiting for this. Love DuckTales 2!
Mike is so wholesome.
So how much longer before Disney cancels Scrooge McDuck, him “going around the world appropriating other cultures’ treasures to bring back to his vault, making him even richer?”
Mike, when you read the old Donald Duck Uncle Scrooge comics, do you read in your mind, Donald’s voice in his cartoon Quacky voice, or a normal human one?
i wish i was born 19 years earlier in mike's school district so we could've hung out and discuss shit like disney ruining the ducktales characters all day long as kids
Best intro ever!
I love the rant about Disney the first 15 minutes. Mike is just trying to keep us all from getting fucked in the ass.
I loved this game as a teenager, gonna enjoy watching!
Just started watching old episodes of Duck Tales on Disney+ a few days ago. Wow such a great show even today compared to the Duck Tales remake. Speaking of which the Duck Tales video game remake…😘.
Dont support disney😩
I'd agree that the Ducktales exhibit sucks. No excuses for it. Not fully on board with your take on the 80's cartoon though. Ducktales is among the best shit to come out of 80's animation, even if it's not as good as the comics. It was a huge sensation and lasted for a billion episodes, so I can't fault them much for adding in new characters over time, or making a few changes from the comics to reach a wider audience. Sure, those changes made it worse, but not so much to prevent it from being great.
It's the same way I feel about TMNT after actually seeing how wild and gritty the original comics could get. I completely understand why every time they make a new "version" they have to tone it down and make it appeal more to the younger kids, but it still always sucks to see characters "flanderized" even if it means you get _Last Ronin_ or Fantagraphics beautiful restoration books
Awesome video game play through keep up the good work!
Wuddup mike
That rant at the beginning was golden! I would love rant compilations just like you do rage compilations! Or maybe each rant gets an individual video so that they can be in a playlist. Either way, thanks for the great content Mike!
So basically they're doing a duck tales version of Pokemon Go.
Wow, that Ducktales rant.
The Ducktales cartoon show is a classic. Launchpad was great in the show and in Darkwing Duck. Yes, it's different from the comics and I know the comics are excellent and very influential but both can be great. Same with the various TMNT shows and comics.
The whole rant kinda reminds me Jim Cornette ranting about wrestling.
Or Annie Wilkes ranting about Rocket Man serials.
They could add new characters. But why add a pilot when there is no need for one? It makes scrooge seem incompetent. He flew planes in the comics and so did donald.
Im okay with the villain they had in treasure with the golden suns.
@@mikematei I always viewed Launchpad as just another chauffeur. And I didn't view Scrooge as incompetent. Just as a bossy character who threw his financial weight around, but not necessarily in a way that made you hate the character.
El Capitán was a fantastic villain.
I think I've heard you express you're not a fan of the cartoon reboot either. I haven't seen it yet but I've heard the show makes more references to the comics than the 80s cartoon did. It probably also makes a lot of changes, too.
Harrison Ford's career has only just begun!
I've been playing lucky dime capers today,it's great to watch this
2:05:38 to 2:05:40 Developers trolling gamers by not letting them grab the ring.
Mike Matei for President!
I played the gameboy version over and over.
I never got to play this one and it seriously hurts my feelings. I love ducktales . makes u wanna jump on someones head with a pogo stick
Launchpad should have been voiced by Dave Coulier. Like wrong peter from the real ghostbusters.
I bought the DuckTales remake from a little while back on sale and my impatient ass found it practically unplayable with constant unskippable cutscenes. I don't know what they were thinking. Like I can't even enjoy what seems like a decent core game. Anyways, I might go try this one, never played it.
Can you play "Golden Axe Warrior" for the Sega Master system?
Ok
DT2 is one of my favorite games!
Wasn’t this game made at the end of the NES lifetime. So people were getting SNES games
1992
but people didn't throw away their NES just because the SNES came out
@@holdingpattern245 I didn’t mean they were throwing away just they were putting it aside and moving on to bigger things
Duck Tales is great, thanks Mike! Do you like Disney's Gummi Bears too?
YOU DON'T HAVE TO ACCEPT SHIT!
Mike have you ever tried a no death run of Ducktales 1 or 2
Fun fact: In hungary they interrupted the episode where a whale ate Scrooge's ship when he was jumping in tantrums on the table because they announced the death of the prime minister Antal József. This made a trauma for a lot of kids. We had to wait years (or for the lucky ones who skipped school next day daytime ) to see what happened in that episode.
Haha.... not that anyone gave a damn about the Prime Minister.... hahaha
Lol 😂 Love your heart warning intro's, Don't ever change Mike!!!! And I don't have to expect quote unquote "change" cause I'm a chameleon, but that app is not change 😂
Great game
I liked the first DuckTales game. It seemed like the second one wasn't as polished. To be newer, the graphics and sound seem worse for some reason.
im wondering where i can get a HIGH quality image file poster of the box cover of this game???
I've never played this but it seems like Shovel Knight must have been heavily inspired by it.
The gameplay looks fun enough but man, that soundtrack does not hold a candle to the original.
This game currently has a value of $222.02 loose, and $762.50 Complete In Box. Sealed it's over $3600........
