The last 3-4 minutes of the video show just how good he is, and how cleanly he can play and nail it without having to hide behind so much distortion. Incredible.
that magic sam jam is unreal, I cannot believe how the audience could just stand still, hearing this awesome jam, probably in awe .. :) I'm stompin' n drummin' on everything around me grinning from ear to ear .. Paul Gilbert is so talented and funny too and seems to be a very nice down to earth guy .. thanks for sharing this video .. you all have a good one //Kenneth
Wow! I'm glad you got yersef an ed-ju-bu-cayshun on that one! : ] Paul is one of the best rhythm players and Groove Masters to ever grace the music world. His lead playing is understandably heralded as being almost without equal, but his tasteful, tight-as-tight-gets rhythm work makes his songs good for a few successive listens right out of the box when he releases a new album. Rock on!
I met him when I was a teenager back in 1989... he was just as much of a great guy even back in the heyday.. it's so refreshing to see someone so down to earth with such great talent.
What Guitar God goes around showing people how to be better players, without charging $75/ticket or $5000 to stay at their Summer Camp? I mean PG is simply the most down to earth and accessible guitarist out there. While Yngwie, to his credit, did do DVD's in the early 90's - maybe even before some others, nobody allows people to get to as close. My friend met him getting on an airplane and instead of the "cold shoulder" PG talked to him for 15 minutes about Racer X and Mr. Big....
Great man!!! Paul is such a humble man, I can't even feel envy for him! He absolutely deserves to be such a huge guitar player!!! You have always been a huge inspiration for me Paul. I would like yo to know that! I love you man!!!
Paul Gilbert is just BAD ASS!!!! He has climb to the top of the Elite in my opinion. I am absolutely impressed having followed him through the years. He's covered a lot of ground and has been totally respectful all the way! He deserves a major seat at the table of guitar royalty!
I totally see what you're getting at and I was totally in agreement with you til I saw it that there were lessons. That blues thing he showed was awesome and there is no way I could remember all that without having it recorded. But a regular concert, I would totally let someone else film that.
Thanks Paul, You are the answer to would be guitarist inspiration. I agree beating out a pulse helps massively to get into the vibe of what you are playing or putting across. It led to getting into drums also. Cheers again.
At least you guys in the UK have had Paul in your general vacinity recently. Here in Vancouver, it's been at least 3 years and the closest Mr. Big got to us was San Francisco!!! Paul Gilbert is absolutely one of the greatest guitar players ever ... not just because of his playing and writing but because he's a genuinely good guy and seems to be very humble about his success. Hey Paul ... you can come do a clinic in my store anytime dude !!!!
i think he's the only guitarist that does this sort of stuff, actually organise these sort of events, speak to people and stuff like that, he's so down to earth.. what a great musician
He lost both his arms in a tractor accident as a child. Robotic prosthetics like those are spendy.... Ok that isn't true, but the dude is honestly a machine. Thanks for posting. Tony
The thing thats awesome about Paul is that he's the most intense shredder, but he can SLOW IT DOWN and play some very soulful blues! You can tell he's really become a tone chaser as he's gotten older. Lays off the heavy distortion and goes for really SWEET light overdrive sounds. He's the best!
"What's more important than winning a marshall..... oh, you're a paramedic" lmfao! Gilbert is an awesome guy. So down to earth, humble and shreds like a God.
"What are you doing now thats more important than winning a Marshall?.... Oh your a paramedic."...LOL!!! I love how rhythmic pauls playing is. He can rip out 50 million notes and still maintain rhythm. so amazing.
I completely whole heartedly agree with you man... Shit every time I see a PG video it stopped what ever iam doing and go back to practicing. A true guitar master
He was one of my tops when he first came out. After the initial first few years of the Shrapnel shredders (no one has topped this group yet. Yngwie, Gilbert, Moore, Friedman, Becker, McAlpine, and Howe) I shut em all off. They weren't what I signed up for when I was bitten by Rock and Roll. Gilbert always seemed to stay in favor for me because he had rock and roll in his playing. He still does.
He's got such a great feel and tone! Paul mentioned his calouses and I can tell you, back in the mid 80's they were like little marbles. They were thick.
every moment of paul playing guitar is a lesson. he is so great and inspiring, and just wishes that all of his listeners take something away from his playing.
His attitude is remarkable. He is open to the audience, humble, he just enjoys playing the guitar and shares his happyness with the others. Given him a detuned guitar? Never mind, he will not complain, he will just tune it in fron of the crowds. The pedals are not set? He sets them accordingly. Another "guitar hero" will shout and fuzz like a "rock star". Paul is the guy next door that plays a guitar, just that.
most people here seem too busy filming, I never got that...you go to see a performance live and you spend all your time looking at your camera when you could be participating in the goodness that's happening right before you, sad really! otherwise, Paul is always amazing!
I totally agree. His playing is just so much more effective lately. For my money, he made a quantum leap following the G3 tour, which I was lucky enough to catch at Madison Square Garden. Whatever it was that changed, possibly a bit of confidence that was lacking, he's grown in leaps and bounds since then.
melhor guitarrista do mundo superior a todos os outros esse sim merece ganhar o premio de melhor guitarrista do mundo ele deveria ter um programa so dele na tv concerteza iria ensinar muitas coisas boas com relaçao a musica
yeah, good ole dom 7 blues. key changes each time and good players note those NOTE differences such as the C# of the A7 dropping to C for the D7. good stuff.
Paul is absolutely Awesome! And always really nice in person :) Even from back in the old MI days and when my buddy Jeff Berkowitz (Amazing guitar player btw) & I used to bug him at his old apt LOL
Great video! I can laugh all day about those guys in the audience looking at Paul on their cellphones. I get it, you want him in the frame... but he's right there life-size, man!
Absolutely agree. But if that's what they want, so be it. Then again. With all those videos one day we'll be able to reconstruct all the classic artists in digital form. Spookyyyyyy.
Yeah I was one of the last people I think. The que moved pretty quickly though which was cool. I was wearing a patched denim over a leather jacket, with a Megadeth backpatch. I missed Andy Timmons, but wouldv'e loved it! saw a couple short clips of the masterclass, seemed like a really cool guy.
I was here on this day and although people say you should never meet your idol, it was just fantastic, he's the nicest guy you could hope to meet.
The last 3-4 minutes of the video show just how good he is, and how cleanly he can play and nail it without having to hide behind so much distortion. Incredible.

One of the most amazing things about Paul is his INCREDIBLE enthusiasm for music and life. It's absolutely inspiring!
Great man!!! Paul is such a humble man, I can't even feel envy for him! He absolutely deserves to be such a huge guitar player!!! You have always been a huge inspiration for me Paul. I would like yo to know that! I love you man!!!
What a beautiful exchange of the love for the instrument to all involved. Paul is the man. Sweet job.
I loved this Vid Gilbert is not just an awesome guitar player but he is an amazing human being
Jesus, could you imagine getting a call from Paul Gilbert telling you you won an amp? Wow, how cool is that!!!!!
What an amazing guy he is, put him in front of a bunch of people and he will just perform and even teach great stuff. Love ya Paul!
Paul Gilbert is just BAD ASS!!!! He has climb to the top of the Elite in my opinion. I am absolutely impressed having followed him through the years. He's covered a lot of ground and has been totally respectful all the way! He deserves a major seat at the table of guitar royalty!
I am always amazed by how different people can do with electric guitar...but am more amazed by Paul Gilbert ability to blend the guitar.
I totally see what you're getting at and I was totally in agreement with you til I saw it that there were lessons. That blues thing he showed was awesome and there is no way I could remember all that without having it recorded.

Thanks for taping this. I do appreciate your effort. Great video and I enjoyed watching it.
Paul is one of the best... ever
Into the first five players
The lad who won it was a drummer apparently. I found this out today when I went into my local guitar shop and brought it. Absolutely beautiful amp.
Amazing. One of the best informative lessons on Blues I've seen!
Thanks Paul, You are the answer to would be guitarist inspiration. I agree beating out a pulse helps massively to get into the vibe of what you are playing or putting across. It led to getting into drums also.
Cheers again.
He is so inspiring! I've been sick for 3 days, and now i'm shredding all over the place!
Paul Gilbert is simply AMAZING !!
This guy is in my top 10 of people I would like to meet before I die. Such an amazing musician, and all around good guy.
At least you guys in the UK have had Paul in your general vacinity recently. Here in Vancouver, it's been at least 3 years and the closest Mr. Big got to us was San Francisco!!! scarified with no gain... this guy is a bloody machine. Total guitar god.
I could listen to that Big Sam bluesy style jam all day. Fantastic!
Wow ! How Good is this guy Paul at playing the electric guitar 🎸 AWESOME 👏👏👏
i think he's the only guitarist that does this sort of stuff, actually organise these sort of events, speak to people and stuff like that, he's so down to earth.. what a great musician
haha nice one i like the guitar work it looks fun to play ... will learn it!!
why is no one smiling?!? i have this goofy grin on my face. this is so fun to watch!
shock and awe
They aren’t smiling because they are thinking about the protesting gig after the show. Lol
Probably Europeans
Their spirit has been crushed
the guy is simply awesome in every way..he radiates music and genuineness
Always inspiring just to watch this guy play guitar he is incredible
He lost both his arms in a tractor accident as a child. Robotic prosthetics like those are spendy....
Ok that isn't true, but the dude is honestly a machine. Thanks for posting.
Tony
Same here i was at the plymouth show and he signed my fireman it was an awsome show just a shame there wasnt time to have a jam with him as well
This guy is incredible. And i dont mean just guitar wise. Great Vid!!

Norwich, the day before he played the Marshall 50 years of Loud concert in London. I was at this and the gig!

It is amazing that Paul can be so funny and can entertain you while he can also blow you away with his music and technique

Magic Sam Shuffle he talked about is called "Lookin' Good" off his "West Side Soul" album. Paul rocks!
paul is finally getting into tritone subbing and altered dominant chords! hooray!

Would love to have been there up front as the guitar GOD blessed us all!!! lucky!!!!

Dang you're present in every guitar-related video haha and I'm not even mad it's amazing. You're brutally honest and a damn good singer.
Nice.. Thanks! It's been on repeat since :D
I believe this is the first time I've heard PG play the blues....WOW!
@Salim Berouil
thanks though for the guy that filmed this and put it on the the tube!
Paul is absolutely Awesome! And always really nice in person :) Even from back in the old MI days and when my buddy Jeff Berkowitz (Amazing guitar player btw) & I used to bug him at his old apt LOL
i love learning new tricks , Thank you Paul Gilbert
Man, that Magic Sam tune he does is beautiful.
His playing is as professional as it comes, it's really that simple
Besides being one of the great players. He really wears his age well.
Paul has really taken the blues to his heart... you can hear it....
he is an awesome guitar player dude...
All of these people are sooo lucky to see him live.
so much fun to hear him play. Inspiring for me to pick up my axe again.
How can you not love this guy
Great video! I can laugh all day about those guys in the audience looking at Paul on their cellphones. I get it, you want him in the frame... but he's right there life-size, man!

Love his humble attitude! as always!
I'm so gutted to have not been there for this!
I enjoyed this video. Paul's quite a personality.
Paul is one of the greatest!
Paul Gilbert is hilarious!! It just goes to show you how meticulous, technical articulation and nuance makes regular music very cool. 5:35
Amen to that! Have you ever noticed that a lot of people want to be different...Just like everybody else!
He just seems like the coolest guy ever. I would love to hang with him sometime
His song 'Fuzz Universe' is a great showcase of ass-kickin' rhythm that builds into an impressive, melodic chorus. : ]
Absolutely agree. But if that's what they want, so be it.
Then again. With all those videos one day we'll be able to reconstruct all the classic artists in digital form. Spookyyyyyy.
wow thats awesome. Usually those are pretty expensive. I remember paying 20 bucks for loveletter back in the days.
That F minor pentatonic variation is actually an A minor 7th arpeggio if anyone was interested
Yeah I was one of the last people I think. The que moved pretty quickly though which was cool. I was wearing a patched denim over a leather jacket, with a Megadeth backpatch.
I missed Andy Timmons, but wouldv'e loved it! saw a couple short clips of the masterclass, seemed like a really cool guy.
smiling from ear to ear .. man he's awesome .. : )
I think this guy should jam with Joe bonamassa it would be epic!
LOL love PG ..Saxon lmfao!! such a great guitarist and funny too :)
I learn something every time.
Even if it is vibe and attitude, PG inspires.
I love those Paul faces around 12:00-13:00 saying: Hey! It's simple as drinking coffe in the morning :)
And now this amazing guitar store is a noodle bar! I'll never forget this moment.
Well, that's nice I guess.
What? That is so sad to hear.
At least all the guitarists can keep noodling
I mean, after having Paul Gilbert noodle in a room like that what else can it possibly become? lol
same man, hes such a goofy rocker :) love it. Govan is also such a cool and humble guy in my opinion
What a great sound!
"gotta warm up a bit, sorry" *melts face, destroys a planet* "think I got it now" lol
Paul has inspired me ounce again
everything he does becomes extraordinary
If I was to elect a world guitar ambassador it would be Paul Gilbert.
Yeah that may have been me lol I was one of the last people in the queue, did you see the andy timmons show? I jammed with him that was brilliant
