    I had 2 roommates that started going to MI in Sept 1986. They came home one day telling me about this young guy that was one of their instructors. they said he sat there ripping sweeping arpeggios and blew everyone's mind. It was Paul they were talking about. He was such a super cool guy. I saw him with Mr. Big 3 years ago in Nashville and talked to Paul after the show. One of my old roommates was with me at that gig and Paul remembered him and we talked for a while. Billy Sheehan was super cool too.

    I've been struggling with that Colorado Bulldog lick since I first tried it like 10 years ago. It's nice to see Paul struggle with it a little lol.

      I kinda agree although Paul is always excellent. The Fuzz Universe album was Epic! Paul is an evolving musician as we all are. However, Early Paul Gilbert is the best!! Second Heat by Racer X is THE BEST shred guitar album ever. Him and Bruce were on fire 🔥. Nice to talk with a fellow Gilbert disciple! Rock on!

      Another one here... I have to agree with YBF too, i loved the intense, more shreddy Gilbert from the 80s to the early 00s, including his power-pop solo records wich are fantastic too... And yes Fuzz Universe is monstrous, some of his best guitar's work there, after that one though i was just a bit disappointed with Vibrato and the next ones... I like them too, and Yes there's nothing wrong with evolving, Gilbert is really the only shredder who did that, and i like that he keeps learning and exploring different genres like jazz, blues and such... I recently started to like his last works more, but i'll always miss the younger Gilbert, and i'd like to see Racer X again...

    Whenever I pick up the guitar I feel like a kid walking into a huge warehouse where you have every toy ever created and every candy ever made and your parents just leave there and say to you, "It's ok, just go for it!!!" So I do, I try out all these different guitar's and choose which guitarist I'm going to learn from!! So I pick up an Ibanez and walk over to Paul Gilbert's booth and learn something valuable for myself from Paul...... that's how I feel playing guitar and I hope that it always will!!! Thx for the lessons and music Paul, see you next session!! Fellow freternist, R.A.P🎸

    great insight. A lot of guitar players tend to lose sight that playing fast is not the "be all, end all".. To be able to pull back and play some tasty licks, memorable hooks, and then use the fast licks as tension builder to a riff, as opposed to going mach 4 from beginning to end.

    • @sixstringlove8242
      @sixstringlove8242 9 лет назад

      warezpl0 Not really. V's are very cool to look at but are very unbalanced. If you stand up and take your hand off the neck, the headstock will dive for the floor. And forget sitting with a V. You have to wedge the two halves between your legs to keep it in a playing position. Not very comfy. But, some have made it work for them. It is just not for everyone.

    • @OperationEndGame
      @OperationEndGame 9 лет назад +1

      Brütal Löve technically, the V is designed with classical guitar sitting posture in mind (the bottom V-part is resting between the legs)

    We don't need PG to "expand." We need him to shred. We have other players we can listen to for "expansion." When we need shredding we should be able to look to Paul. This said, he can do what the fuck he wants, obviously, and it will more than likely sound sweet. All hail the Paul.
