    Since I know I'm about to get a thousand comments about this stuff, may as well nip it in the bud ahead of time:
    *-No* *I'm not bothered* *that I had almost* *1000 restarts,* nor do I care what you think about that number. I think it's funny, and I enjoyed my P-2 experience exactly the way it was, I'm proud I stuck with it and beat it in one sitting, and I wouldn't change a thing.
    *-"But I did it faster"* I'm happy for you.
    *-"You could've just-"* I don't care, I played the level blind, rusty as hell, and with no help, I missed some things, made some mistakes, but I had fun, and beat it on my own terms, and I'm already a lot better at and know a lot more about the level as of writing this as I work on learning the P-rank. It's not always about doing things faster or more efficiently, just enjoy the ride my dudes.
    Also worth noting there has already been some fairly big changes to this level since I played it, namely a big one being that Sisyphus can now be parried in phase 2 on Violent. So before you ask why I didn't seem to parry him in phase 2, it's because I couldn't.
    But hey, while you're down here, I hope you enjoyed the video! And if you did consider dropping me a follow on Twitch where I'm live multiple times a week, or checking out my Patreon where there's some extra content from this video, and much more!

    Honestly, your experience with P-2 is actually incredibly fitting with Sisyphus himself. You threw yourself into a seemingly hopeless battle with a smile, lost time and time again with the same strategies, and even after it was all done and you ended with a 100+ restarts, you were more than happy with yourself. It almost feels prophetic, tbh.

    I've been thinking a lot about this level... No one was ready for P-2 (well, except some god-gamers and speedrunners), and the difficulty it provided really was a surprise. This level makes you suffer. And Hakita even jokingly placed these 'have fun' messages in update steam post, tip of the day section on terminal, on this display by the boss door... He really makes fun of you.
    Unless...
    The whole idea of Sisyphus is someone tormented by gods to bear an insufferable challenge for all eternity. Again and again, he pushed that boulder up a hill just to start over. And I think this level makes player mirror that myth. But not to make them feel miserable, no. This level truly teaches you the way of King Sisyphus. And it makes it great in my opinion. You suffered, DumpsterMan. But just as you said it yourself, all of the attempts mattered.
    Because in the end, it's just fun.

    P-2 is such a great level. The enemy encounters are really hard, but it's not because of the volume of enemies like the cybergrind, but because of the specific enemy choice, placement, and terrain. It's legitimately my favorite level in the game, and one of my favorites in any fps game.

    • @DumpsterManTV
      @DumpsterManTV  Год назад +33

      What I really appreciated about this level is that although it's hard as hell, in some of the bigger arenas you can really see the thought that went into them. For example the Mindflayer arena idols one of the toughest enemies and throws two of them at you, but instead of looking at it as a bullshit enemy given invincibility, how about looking it at as a free nearly-infinite source of healing and stamina? Same goes for the hideous mass and stalker arena and the juggling act that room requires of you. Tough, but far from impossible. I think a few arenas didn't land as well, I struggle to see the intention behind the quad Cerberus room at the beginning other than shock, and I don't find the spinning blood tunnel very fun before or after the change to it, but I can really respect the vision of testing every one of the player's abilities in this level, I think it was executed with a lot of finesse genuinely.

    I love this game. On the last minos i commented about how i found gabe 2 harder than minos and now i realise hakita designed the game so you could play it however you want for example in the dual mindflayer totem part i died once but in the totem sand room i got my ass handed to me i chock it up to the difference in our playstyles. Dumpster man plays quite grounded opting for combos rather than verticality whereas i play with the whiplash and overpump more often. The best part is theres no better way to play do what you want lol

    • @DumpsterManTV
      @DumpsterManTV  Год назад +29

      Overpump is ridiculously strong, even watching this back I wished I had used it more. The whiplash nerf kind of put the fear of god in me using it too much, but it was almost necessary to use at least a bit in this level. That said I totally agree the beauty of this game is all the different ways to play, and none of them 'wrong', despite what some people seem to think.

    • @Zexceeda
      @Zexceeda Год назад +3

      This level forced me to learn how to overcharge the pump without taking damage to beat that damn mindflayer room. I was honestly forced to quit 2 times, both due to rage and lack of time. The first one was the rage and it was in the mindflayer room. Overcharge was the only way my playstyle can cope with being forced to deal with mindflayer's AND sword machines co-existing. Normally, I'd ignore the SM and focus on the bigger threat... neither ground nor air felt safe xD. Given that I wasn't very experienced in having mindflayer's exist for longer than I could kill them and killing ferrymen in general, the arenas were hell. I couldn't even beat Sisyphus until phase 2 became parryable (I've never even touched a difficulty lower than violent, so I had to do p2 first there xD) but after that, p2 took less tries than Minos (though, by then I knew his moveset and had experience in the arenas) seriously phase 2 parrys are great... killed that mfer on a "this will hurt" too... yeah, FOR YOU.

      @Adam Thake for Sisyphus I think the easiest way to get the fight down is learning to parry... take this from someone who loves to play Ultrakill because it's the only FPS game I've ever found that let's me go as fast as I actually want to (assuming I can reach the skill levels required) and not slow down or do some cover bs if I'm good enough (I'm not yet xD), but dodging Sisyphus is hard. I lost to minos like 80+ times on my first run... but I had also been awake for 24 hours and my gaming skill dies at 16 tbh... also I got extremely slaphappy when I realized I was basically fighting an anime character and all of my video game dreams of virtual adrenaline junkie shenanigans finally came true... so I kinda took my time enjoying the moveset xD second time doing p1 I died twice. The irony that the boss with your highest restarts is ALSO the most tenacious person known to man. I'm a standard player myself until the games finishes then I plan on (as far as I can) P ranking the game on every single difficulty, and watching you get all those restarts at the end made me also think about my experience. Haven't played the game for like 4 months or something, saw the update came out, did two cybergrinds for a second to unlock the new rocket to mess around, and started it. At the end of my playthough I got 68 restarts, only about 10 or so being on the normal rooms, but I was getting my ass WOOPED by Sisyphus, exactly the same way when I fought Minos. I knew the boss would be hard but I also thought "Eh, looks to be pretty close to the same as Minos so it shouldn't be too bad."....and then I realized not all of his moves are being called out, and he teleports not right in front of you, and he has an annoying ass yellow glint that tracks you....and let's say it was a very hard adjustment for me until the last handful of attempts. Afterwards, like the psychopath I've become when it comes to this game, I went straight into sandbox to try as hard as I could to beat him without getting hit then went to P rank it.......which took like 3 days and probably triple the amount of total restarts to do (fuck the cerberus room, fuck ferryman in that same room, fuck BOTH the mindflayers, and fuck the red hallway walls). However, ALL of that was 100% worth it because I actually feel like because of that level I've reached another checkpoint in getting good at Ultrakill and I'm very happy about it. I P ranked that level which was hard as hell and I even got farther in my cybergrind by like 3 more waves (I got 4 swordmachines and wasted railgun on something else before I saw them :') ) Long ass paragraph out of the way, just wanna also say this was amazing to watch. You're my favorite (and only) person I watch for Ultrakill and seeing your gameplay was a fun experience, can't wait to see the Ultrakill Must Die Sisyphus P-Rank in the future :)

      Since this stream after practicing Sisyphus a bit my opinion on "You can't escape" is the best way to reliably avoid all damage is to dash, dash, slide the roundhouse kick, and then parry. As long as I have the stamina to do it, it hardly ever fails and the slide puts you in just the right spot for the parry. Even if you've already P-ranked the fight, give this method a go for fun, it feels great to dodge the attack this way!

    good job! i'm honestly glad you were able to push through all of those restarts, that takes a whole bunch of perseverance to do! Wish you lots of luck on the p-rank journey, it will not be an easy one
    also, it's honestly amazing to see just how absolutely fucking gargantuan the skill range in this game is, like, it ranges anywhere from just starting out and dying to a couple fodder enemies, all the way to people like queckquack p-ranking p-2 in their first blind playthroughs, it's fucking insane, and honestly the single biggest motivator for me to improve in this game, and i can almost assure you that unless you grind for literally thousands of hours, the game will ALWAYS have a challenge that will put you right back in the "holy fuck, this game is insane" mindset :)
    for instance, it took me 39 restarts for my first p-2 run, but the fact i still have a LOT to learn REALLY hit me when i decided that i wanted to try radiant p-2, only to give up in the double idol flayer room after 5 hours, like 99% of which was spent in said room, and being met with 1313 restarts when knowing full well that i'm nowhere even near finishing it, it kinda just hit different, not in a bad way, but in the "even though i'm good, i can still be so much better" kind of way, it's honestly amazing, and one of the reasons ULTRAKILL has become a VERY solid contender for my #1 best designed game spot

Gabriel for example, another boss who fights in a melee style and teleports to mix up and close the distance. I think some people are going to have to come to terms with the fact that there's a type of boss that just simply works best in Ultrakill, and while Minos and Sisyphus are both variations on a theme, it makes sense why this particular style was chosen. It works well for the up close and personal combat style of Ultrakill, and is, in my humble opinion, fun as hell.
