Thank you so much for this video. I just saved myself a bunch of time and money. I'm starting a new job and was getting ready to go out and buy new clothes for it. I went through all my clothes and found clothing that is perfectly good to wear for my new job.

I did a use it up challenge throughout 2023. I just have 1 shampoo left and I've been using it as body wash because it dries my hair too much but it's making my skin dry and itchy so I'll just use it to clean the shower, toilet, and sink. I found it most difficult to use up lotions that I didn't like because there's not really any other way to repurpose them. The main thing it taught me was to stick with tried and true products that we like rather than testing new products.
Yes! I feel the same way about face products - last year I tried some new stuff and it isn't working for me - I should have stuck to what I know works. Love that you did that challenge!!

Jenny....can you use the lotion in the shower to shave your legs? Otherwise, pitch it and move on. Lesson learned, and no need to look back. 🎉
Lotions I use n my legs to shave. Be careful it does not get slick on bottom of shower and tub.
I put sone in my hair to condition it overnight or fir a few hours.
@@thurst3224 yes. Just be careful you do not spill it and slip while showering.
Interesting. I think, unintentionally, I have been in the 'no buy' state for years. I do not impulse buy, ever. And we have no debt. Amazing how that works!

Yes in deed…. I am doing a no buy year…. I am buying a bread knife, I am trying to make a sourdough starter.. My first one flopped…. I am learning.and yes the library, a great resource for many things.

I started 2024 absolutely determined to use up consumables! You totally nailed how I feel about it. I think I can go all year and not buy skincare, hair products, cleaning supplies and definitely makeup! I can’t wait to use this stuff up! I’m also limiting spending in other areas but this was my problem area. It’s so weirdly exciting every time I use something up!

Be sure to check the expiration dates. Makeup also gets old.

I‘m doing this no buy challenge since I was a child. I’m living in eastern Europe
I've been decreasing how much I shop and scrutinize almost all non-essential purchases...where will this go?, how will it endure our lifestyle/two young boys?, what is it made of/how was it made?, etc. I also try to remind myself to shop my house for things like decorations, craft supplies, books, etc. It is such a satisfying feeling to use what we have, buy less, and have more money for important things/experiences. I love your view to make it a challenge...another great tip to use this year!

What a good example for your children mama. Especially in our society of 'I want it now-I get it now. I must have 8 bottles of half-used hair products. I will not be buying more until they're gone! I stopped going to the mall & impulse buying when my last teen went to college. I thought it would be painful but it was freeing.

I'm working on a no buy year...I have purchased 2 items already...for a cruise though...so specific and not random...so I congratulate myself...it's kind of hard...but since I'm forced to shop in my closet...I have gotten rid of a few items for Goodwill...so I congratulate myself on baby steps of decluttering...the decluttering is not what I'm actually working on, but its happening through this no buy journey so...I will take the 2 for 1

I tried and failed... Didn't want to buy clothes, but didn't think of that my children still grow.
Replaced stuff for the house althoug I didn't want to.
And spent double the amount for sweets I wanted to.
At least - I tried, even after every fail.

Awesome! I think as long as you are clear in what you can and can't buy then you can go for it! I also think doing it as a challenge really helped me push the limit :)
I love this! But my problem is when I put a cut off on pleasure shopping and go no buy, I go over board on my can buy list. Like I would spend extra or extravagantly on groceries instead. What do I do??
I know exactly what you mean - I did this as well! I let myself do it a little but tried to limit it for most shopping trips :)
So was the no buy for only you or your whole family? I can see how having kids could make a no buy very difficult.
Good question! It was just for me, although I also limited buying the kids' items as much as possible but they still needed various necessities!
They do! I tried it with 2 kids and tried to exclude kids-activities (going to the zoo, to the public pool), but I failed. Still I bought less than usual. Better try and fail than never try. And If I didn't try it, I could not have afforded the vet. My cat became very ill and now has to go to the vet every 3 weeks.
What about gifts! For kids!
You can set the rules! I did my no buy year mainly for myself so I did get the kids gifts but also cut back on unnecessary kid items :)
Trust me. Kids have enough stuff😊
I excluded gifts and donations. You don't want to punish other people.
