The BEST Hike in St. Lucia | Climbing the Petit Piton | Epic Hike

- The best hike in St. Lucia is not an easy hike! The Petit Piton trail is located on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. It is a very challenging trail and we consider it an epic hike with an amazing view of Sugar Beach and the Gros Piton.
The Petit Piton hike is one of our most memorable travel experiences to date. The hike itself is very challenging, but the view from the top of the Piton is incredible. In order to reach the top, one must complete a lengthy rock scramble and climb a series of ropes over boulders.
In this video we include footage from all four quarters of the hike. We talk about the hike, along with how we prepared for it. Topics include: booking a guide for the trail, what we wore for the hike and what other items we brought along.

Deighton was responsive and answered all of our questions through the booking process. Our guide Shanus, the Mountain Fox, did an wonderful job ensuring we made it to the top and allowing us to enjoy our time at the top when we made it. Overall, St. Lucia Tours and the Petit Piton hike exceeded our expectations. We would do it all over again.
If you are not quite as adventurous as we are, the company offers additional tours, including hiking the Gros Piton and going on an island tour.
When researching this hike it helped to watch footage from others who hiked, along with reading reviews to prepare. If you are trying to decide if this hike is for you we hope our footage helps you to make that decision. If the Petit Hike is too intense for what you are looking for, hiking the Gros Piton may be a good option for you.
If you have already decided you want to do the Petit Piton hike, we hope this video helps you to prepare for the hike, and maybe gets you even more excited for it.
It took us about an hour and a half to hike up to the top, including some breaks for water and video footage. We spent about a half hour on the peak, and the hike back down took a little over an hour. We did try to keep moving at a good pace since we were only visiting on a cruise ship and our time was limited. If we were staying on the island we would have taken our time. From reading other reviews, it seems the hike typically takes between 3 and 5 hours depending on your pace.

It was quite the hike! The guides told us you first climb the Piton and then drink one!To be honest though, at that point I think any beverage would have tasted good LOL

My wife and I did that same exact hike 20 years ago on our honeymoon. Our guide was Ja I. He and his family lived right at the trailhead. I wonder if your guide was his son.

Hi Tyffany. So glad you enjoyed the video. There are a couple areas where you have to climb nearly straight up with the assistance of ropes, so there is some risk of falling/injury. For an experienced hiker/rock climber, it would not be dangerous, but we probably would not recommend it for those who have little hiking experience or are out of shape. We hope you have a great birthday and are able to celebrate it at the top of the Petit Piton!!
Just a note the although Gros piton is the larger of the two, it’s a much easier hike to the top, and the views are still awesome….
Going with a gliding suit would be nice.
I don't know any thing about gliding, but have seen some really cool videos. The top of the Petit Piton would be an awesome place to launch from!
Our ship arrives in February at 1pm. How far is the trail head from port? Could we do this before sundown? It looks like it is around 6pm for the sunset.
If I remember correctly it was over an hour drive each way to get to the trail head (probably close to 3 hours round trip) which would only give you 2 hours on the trail. Unfortunately we don't think this would be enough time.
if its ok to ask, how much of a tip did u give the guide after the hike? (what is an expected tip for this?). Also how did u handle the traffic of the other hikers? Or because people need to get a guide, do they 'schedule' hikes up and down this mountain?
Unfortunately this hike has been a few years ago now and neither of us recall what we gave for a tip (or even what the hike itself cost). We only met a couple other hikers on this trail, as it is quite strenuous and not hiked nearly as often as the more popular Gros Piton. From our research, it's highly recommended that you hire a guide if you are not very familiar with the trails, as the trail can be dangerous, and you could easily get lost.
