- Installing an aftermarket tachometer on my 2005 Honda Shadow Aero. The tach is a Bikers Choice Custom Mini Tachometer I bought on Amazon.com for $67. It works great!
Update: I got some emails asking exactly what tach this is. It's a "Bikers Choice Custom Mini Tachometer - Electronic 72769" and the instructions say "2 cylinders 4 strokes (1000 rpm = 16.6 HZ). For a Honda Shadow V twin it has to be for 2 cylinders and 4 strokes (which is one fire per two rotations for each cylinder). I got it on amazon.com. Авто/Мото
Just install that exact one today on my 04 Shadow Aero. This tach goes for about $60 and seems to be made of very good sturdy construction. Handle bar mounts comes with the tach. U can get it on ebay/amazon. The WIRING on the other hand, I wired it slightly different. There are a few RED wires on the bike. I tested all RED wires and the small red wire has power even when bike is off. The rest of the bigger RED(red with small black stripe) wires only has power when bike is on so doesn't matter which power wire you use as long not the small red wire. Tach wires - GREEN wire goes to the negative coil which is the LEFT wire on the bottom of the coil(yellow). The BLACK is of course ground. The BLUE and RED needs power(power & light) so I hook mine up to a big RED wire on the bike harness. Both RED & BLUE wire into big RED wire on bike. You do NOT need to remove the tank to guide the wire through. I just electrical tape all wires into one harness and guide it through under the tank. Take your time and make it perfect. I know we're excited to see that tach revving but take your time and I highly recommend soldering.
Hello! Couldn't you please share with link/exact model of a tach? Thanks!
Thank you very much for the info, now I can DIY install a tachometer on my 2004 Honda Shadow Aero VT750C.
What color was that negative wire you taped in to
Don't let the thumbs down get to you. You will be hard pressed to find a vid without some. It's the nature of YouYube.
Thanks for the info .was looking to put one on a 2004 shadow aero . looks pretty cut and dry
Good video. I assume your Aero is a 750 cc. So what was your RPM at 70 mph? I'm thinking on installing one on my Shadow Spirit 750cc
Well done buddy. Thanks...you're a good teacher ;-)
Great video,
Question, where did you get the mounting bracket for the handlebar?
Thanks
And ride safe !
Thank u for video...what is your rpm at 80mph on a freeway? I ride a vstar 250 4 wrk but i need a larger bike. Thanku for any info:)
Where do you buy the handle bar clamps?
Hi, what amp do I need for the electrical connector blocks? Looking to get this added to my VT125 as want to do idle drop procedure
With an identical tachometer and identical wiring, the readings are exactly half of what is normal!
What am I doing wrong?
85mph/2700rpm :)
Did you connect the green wire from the tachometer only to the rear coil or the front coil or to both?
Thanks in advance..
Shadow 750 Spirit `08 RC53
Good day sir, I'm confused about the ignition coil. There two (2) ignition coil, one in front and the other one is at the back that works on the engine. Is the front ignition coil enough to let the rpm gauges works? thank you
well to my best understanding it wouldn't matter. cant have one cylinder firing faster than another in most engines and thats all its doing it using the timing of a cylinder being fired to get the rpm.
Nice work, I am trying to install one on my Shadow, I'm having a hard time finding the negative wire on the coil. What color is it? Thanks
mine's yellow under the coil - 04 Aero
Where did you get the windscreen?
Good idea but the Aero is shaft drive.
hi, can we talk by email? so that you can send me a more detailed picture of the links you made, thanks
Ok so you "thumbs down" people. What's your problem? (It's easy when you're anonymous, right?). Contact me, let's have a "conversation"... Let's do some math.
Hi. Nice video. I have Vt 750 aero too. Could you inform me where you bought the tachometer?
