    Coming from a wood working background, you should NEVER make a crosscut on a table saw like you are in this video, free hand. You are asking for at least a kick back and at worst a whole lot worse. Use the miter gauge, or build a table saw sled.

      @impulse0341 thank you for your advice. Also thank you for no screaming at him for it but instead trying to teach. A lot of people just call people stupid for doing something wrong but never give actual advice. Glad to see someone else other than myself actually gives advice instead of calling people stupid. :)

      I’m glad that this was brought up. Honestly, the “safety police” that find their way into the comment sections of woodworking videos are a pet peeve of mine. But since this is a different demographic that is less likely to have experience with woodworking tools, I felt compelled to say something.
      Glad you beat me to it. And I’m also glad that it was done with some tact. 👍

    Definitely do a full video on the ERCF. You should also take a look at the Filametrix Voron mod for the stealth burner if you don't want to deal with tuning the retraction for clean filament ends. That mod basically implements a filament cutter similar to the Bambu Labs printers, so there's a bit more waste but much less hastle.

    great video.
    just some advice for the viewers who are fairly new to using power tools. DO NOT crosscut on a tablesaw without the mitre gauge, especially if the material is more than 1 inch. (also dont crosscut material while using the fence and mitre gauge at the same time)

    100% yes on the MMU video! I love my Bambu Lab AMS, but I'd much prefer an open-source option so I could tinker (more).
    I really like the videos where we get to see how a project fared after months of actual use as well, e.g. what improvements you might make if you were doing it over from the start. The tip about printing the honeycomb with PETG as the support/divider as opposed to Bambu Lab support PLA is something that I actually wrote down for future reference, which is the highest compliment I can give. Thanks!

An idea would to still have the intro video but have a follow-up that can cover long term results on several projects. I am interested in a follow-up on the modular enclosure. Those diffusion panels look cool, but they aren't going to do much acoustically. The shallow wells are only going to affect high frequencies, and the lack of variation in depth/angles means what frequencies it does affect, it's going to scatter uniformly.

    • @thenextlayer
      @thenextlayer  11 месяцев назад +2

      Damn. I was worried about that. Though, I do think that BEHIND me, the aesthetics are more important than the acoustics, since I'll be with my back to it... but yeah, I probably should choose a different design for off-camera to improve it.
      Thanks for the comment!

    • @timreeves

      @@thenextlayer As a sound engineer, I can confirm that these won't do anything for sound and your impressions are most likely from a will for confirmation bias (no hate! a very reasonable and expected belief, you'll see this time and time again with people that buy expensive boutique hifi cables, which realistically change nothing), and even going deeper or more varied with the angles, they still aren't going to come close, diffusion is also not what you want for inproving acoustics, you want absorbtion, panels to achieve this are achieved with things like thick rockwool matting.
      But, please do video on the enraged rabbit! i'm very interested in seeing complete and functional versions of this system!

    I am definitely interested. Now that I setup my wall rack, it's possible to do MM. I tried my hand with some simple manual MM and orca Slicer and OMG, how just small little details can make a piece look something else. Seriously, 6 30 seconda long swaps and bam. Shiny.
    By the my way. My rack is made of 2m 15mm steel tubes used in heating because you can't beat this cost (4 euro) and just designed filament spool mounts to attach to it that roll over cheap ball bearings (that I harvested from old V rollers)

    The sound panels idea is neat, but I think it has the same problem as the big "3d printed enclosure" project -- unless you are getting your filament for free (and we ain't), it'll just end up costing much more than actually buying panels off of amazon. Neat idea, might have some niche usage -- like if you only needed a small area covered, but the wrong tool for the job.

    • @thenextlayer

    although here in Brazil holiday seasons are actually summer, I already started the honeycomb wall project for my 3D printing room. Been printing wall modules (I´m using parametric version 2) for the last week. There´s a jig on Printables you can use to drill the holes for it more accurately.
    I like the idea of stacking the prints to save time! (some prints tend to end in the middle of the night so the printer is idle until I wake up LOL) Maybe it would be interesting to make a video on the subject, with tips and tricks on how to do it properly using OrcaSlicer.
    Still have to repair the resin printer (LD-006) in order to get rid of it, LOL. No more resin for me.
    Living in an apartment, I don´t have room for THAT much filament LOL. No more than 10 rolls at a time. But I´m working on something to put them in the shelf over the printer (direct drive) so I can feed them directly. Probably there´s already a ready made solution (I don´t want the TUSH filament roller, didn´t care much for it when I tried). Will look for it after the honeycomb wall is complete. (Edit: Just checked the RepRack and it´s usable on desktop as well, so... YAY!!!)

    In response to your initial question of wanting to hear your own voice or not, I can help you out. I love listening to my own echoes. If you were fortunate enough to hear me, you’d have another project: a set of panels that specifically echo my voice, while in the shower. For reference, I sound like the best parts of Pavarotti, Bon Jovi, and Johnny Cash. (Or a sick coyote according to my wife). I am sure it would be very popular, although my wife and kids don’t seem to agree. I can’t wait to see how the panels come out! I think they will be a hit, the next Dre headphones killer product. Let me know when you are ready to license them!

    Hmm, that sound deadening ... I got 10 tons (!!) of technical floor tiles (60x60cm like 15cm thick, each weights 12.5kg) about to go to landfill. Print these surfaces, glue them on, then mount the tiles on the wall ... Get both absorption and diffusion then.
    Now i got about 20m2 to do ... not strictly necessary, but would be nice for acoustics.
    If each tile takes 10hrs to print, it's 9 prints per flooring tile, that's 90hrs per.
    48 floor tiles, so only 864hrs of printing ... not too bad.

    I need to either find use for the tiles within 1½hrs, or pay to landfill them

    Can someone please tell me if there's a way to use the honeycomb wall storage without screwing it to the wall? I can't put holes in the wall

    איש יקר, לא רואים בסרטון בדיוק את כל מה שעשית על המסור שולחן, אבל שים לב לכמה דברים: 1. חיתוך חופשי על מסור שולחן זה דבר מסוכן באופן כללי. חיתוך כמו שאתה עשית הייתי עושה עם ג'יג כמו cross cut sled או עם miter gauge. יש אינסוף מדריכים, וזה דברים שיהיו לך הרבה יותר שימושיים מחיתוך אחד פשוט. 2. אסור בשום פנים ואופן לבצע חיתוך cross cut כשהעץ נוגע בגדר. זה מתכון ל-kickback, וזה אם יש לך מזל והיד שלך לא מועפת לתוך הלהב, סיכון כשאתה מחזיק את הפיסה שנוגעת בגדר ביד. זה סופר מסוכן, אני לא סתם אומר.
    במקרה שלך, הייתי בונה cross cut sled פשוט ביותר, ואפילו תוכל להשתמש במדפסות שלך כדי להדפיס guide bar שיתאים למסור שלך.
    נכנסתי חזק לאחרונה להדפסות תלת מימד, ואני כבר שנים עמוק מאוד בנגרות :-)

    Jonathan -- loved this video! Thanks for the storage ideas that I will start printing. Also, loved the Israeli flag in the background. I have been watching what is going on in Israel and can't believe what I see. I've lived there temporarily and miss going back which I won't do until the fighting is over. L'hitraot

    Is that an Israel flag? Why do i now want a wall with a bunch of flags and 3d printed clocks.......
    Where did you get that tho. Might want a south african one.

    Why did nobody design an eccentric wall mount for the honeycomb wall yet? Drill holes out of center is a solved mechanical problem in every (better designed) electrical lamp or Ikea furniture.

    Why use a brim when printing something like the reprack piece? It’s unnecessary and a waste of filament.

    • @thenextlayer
      @thenextlayer  11 месяцев назад +1

      It's even more waste of filament if a corner peels up and I have to reprint ;)

    I like your channel and your videos, but please stop put on video with a title and a thumbnail and change it like an hour later. Upload the final product with definitive name and thumb. It's confusing and irritating.

    • @thenextlayer
      @thenextlayer  11 месяцев назад

      Sorry, but we A/B test as many as 10-12 title/thumbnails to find the best one(s). It's one of the reasons the channel is growing so quickly - we test what the best results will be.
