“I’ll sleep in your embrace at last” is the one that kills me. She’s saying that she’ll finally get to be with him, even if she’s not alive. WHY. MUST. YOU. DO. THIS. TO. ME.
While she isn't my favorite Eponine, this is by far the better rendition of this song. Something about Frances' voice in this is so much more heartrending to me. Not sure why.
I remember growing up on Les Mis... My mom always told me that Eponine was injured but she never told me that she had died during the musical... When I come back and listen to this song I just can't stop crying because I now know what happens.
I'm in this Musical currently, and my sister and the guy who plays Marius literally made the director cry while singing this song. We don't open for two more weeks, and it was performance ready on the first day of rehearsal.
When I was a child and I first heard this song and my Grandma says that she dies before the last line, I did not know about the story so I asked "was she ill?" "No she got shot" and I replied "that is worse, who shot her?" I was told it was the opposition side.
[EPONINE] Don't you fret, M'sieur Marius. I don't feel any pain A little fall of rain, can hardly hurt me now You're here. That's all I need to know And you will keep me safe And you will keep me close And rain will make the flowers grow [MARIUS] But you will live, 'Ponine, dear God above If I could heal your wounds with words of love [EPONINE] Just hold me now, and let it be Shelter me, comfort me [MARIUS] You would live a hundred years, if I could show you how I won't desert you now... [EPONINE] The rain can't hurt me now This rain will wash away what's past And you will keep me safe And you will keep me close I’ll sleep in your embrace at last The rain that brings you here is heaven blessed The skies begin to clear, and I'm at rest A breath away from where you are I've come home from so far [MARIUS, (EPONINE)] Hush-a-bye, dear Éponine (So don't you fret, M'sieur Marius) You won't feel any pain (I don't feel any pain) A little fall of rain (A little fall of rain) Can hardly hurt you now (Can hardly hurt me now) [MARIUS] I'm here [EPONINE] That's all I need to know [EPONINE, (MARIUS)] And you will keep me safe (I'll stay with you) And you will keep me close ('Till you are sleeping) And rain... (And rain) Will make the flowers... (Will make the flowers) [Éponine dies.] [MARIUS (alone)] Grow [Marius pulls Éponine closer, crying as he holds her tightly.]
@cloudsat7326 But! Valjean gave Cosette a good life. I've always thought that was the most moving part. He and Fantine sacrificed themselves so she could be spared the kind of lives they had to live. Fantine becomes an Angel... and Valjean is welcomed into Heaven at the end. So like... they earned Mercy for themselves in the end because the selflessness of their lives?
@ohmyrowling96 Actually, I think it's Samantha Barks, Taylor Swift was considered, but the role ultimately went to Samantha, who played has played Eponine before.
@Fanatic4500 That's just the way Frances Ruffelle (and a lot of Eponines in general) sound, unfortunately. Eponine should have more vibrato like Lea Salonga (from the 10th anniversary concert recording,) but that's just my opinion.
@andromache007 I'm not complaining about the TONE of her voice. I'm saying that her voice in general is just kind of obnoxious. She sounds like this in all of the songs. She sounds like she's pouting. She's not bad at all, I just don't like her voice.
@JulieAlbright7 Yeah, and if I was dying I doubt I would be complaining. Plus, she is supposed to be at peace. She died in Marius's arms. She knows he will never love her the way she loves him.
I love this song but I don't like that they gave Eponine an actress with such a childish voice - they say throughout the play how much of a child she is but if you actually listen to her and see the maturity with which she deals with all the things happening to her, she really isn't. They should have given her a voice actress who didn't sing with her nose plugged.
She's not bad, but I've heard much better. I went to 5th Avenue (in Seattle) recently, and the woman who played Eponine is amazing, honestly. Again, she's not bad but her voice is just so... complain..y? That's the way I'd put it; it sounds like she's pouting the whole time.
WTF Eponine, it's not supposed to be like that. Frances Rufelle has an horrible voice for this kind of music. It just doesn't fit together. Lea Salonga is amazing and sings it way better and softer than her. Eponine breathes her last breath, she would have no more power for those weird "sighs".
“I’ll sleep in your embrace at last” is the one that kills me. She’s saying that she’ll finally get to be with him, even if she’s not alive. WHY. MUST. YOU. DO. THIS. TO. ME.
I'm mean if getting killed is the only way to get your crush to cuddle you...
A sob like a baby at the end, every. single. time.
Her crush is strong enough to act as a pain killer
Why can’t my mom do that
"If I could close your wounds with words of love"
TOO LATE FOR THAT, BOI
He missed the memo
I cant close my parents divorce with words of love
i keep drawing fanart for this song i literally cannot stop help
Best Eponine ever. People need to stop this Frances hate. There's so much emotion in her voice.
Personally Fantine, Gavroche, and Eponine's deaths were the saddest
Thatidiotwithabox omg when gavroche died, SOMEBODYS PHONE WENT IFF AND I WAS LIKE AAHHHH
Aydn HOW DARE THEY
i know mainly Gavroche and Eponine
javert was REALLY sad for me! he was just so closeminded. and couldnt deal with all the mistakes he made
Master in a half gave birth to gavroach
the bit that get me is when Eponine stops singing and marus is left to finish... breaks me:/
Either I only listen to really sad songs or my RUclips mix has decided it needs to make me cry on public transport
Fun fact: she was so covered in her own blood, she thought it was raining.
jesus christ
What about this fact is fun
wasnt it raining in the movie?
@@elicia901 yes that's because tom hooper is baby and incapable of nuance
That’s really gruesome
While she isn't my favorite Eponine, this is by far the better rendition of this song. Something about Frances' voice in this is so much more heartrending to me. Not sure why.
Really I thought her voice ( the orignal Broadway cast I'm assuming? ) was the best by far!
Larry N Original London and broadway.
I got to see her in '87 on Broadway. Changed my life. I started taking voice lessons after that.
My favorite Eponine was Lea Solonga on the London Stage in 1995. She was amazing.
Agreed. No one really nails the harmonies the way these two do imo
I remember growing up on Les Mis... My mom always told me that Eponine was injured but she never told me that she had died during the musical... When I come back and listen to this song I just can't stop crying because I now know what happens.
Frances version of eponine in my absolute favorite, her voice is so unique sounding.
My heart dies when he calls her 'Ponine
I'm in this Musical currently, and my sister and the guy who plays Marius literally made the director cry while singing this song. We don't open for two more weeks, and it was performance ready on the first day of rehearsal.
Oh boy, this song is such a heart-wrencher!
When I was a child and I first heard this song and my Grandma says that she dies before the last line, I did not know about the story so I asked "was she ill?" "No she got shot" and I replied "that is worse, who shot her?" I was told it was the opposition side.
"A little fall of rain can hardly hurt me now" tbh Eponine I'm more worried about the bullet wound but I mean whatever
I cry just thinking about this song now... Eopnine, Valjean and Gavrosh were the most heart-breaking deaths
THIS SONG IS SO SAD AND SO SWEET
My Favorite song in the entire show. Between the two Girls I would of rather run off to America with Epotine.
😊😊
[EPONINE]
Don't you fret, M'sieur Marius. I don't feel any pain
A little fall of rain, can hardly hurt me now
You're here. That's all I need to know
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
And rain will make the flowers grow
[MARIUS]
But you will live, 'Ponine, dear God above
If I could heal your wounds with words of love
[EPONINE]
Just hold me now, and let it be
Shelter me, comfort me
[MARIUS]
You would live a hundred years, if I could show you how
I won't desert you now...
[EPONINE]
The rain can't hurt me now
This rain will wash away what's past
And you will keep me safe
And you will keep me close
I’ll sleep in your embrace at last
The rain that brings you here is heaven blessed
The skies begin to clear, and I'm at rest
A breath away from where you are
I've come home from so far
[MARIUS, (EPONINE)]
Hush-a-bye, dear Éponine (So don't you fret, M'sieur Marius)
You won't feel any pain (I don't feel any pain)
A little fall of rain (A little fall of rain)
Can hardly hurt you now (Can hardly hurt me now)
[MARIUS]
I'm here
[EPONINE]
That's all I need to know
[EPONINE, (MARIUS)]
And you will keep me safe (I'll stay with you)
And you will keep me close ('Till you are sleeping)
And rain... (And rain)
Will make the flowers... (Will make the flowers)
[Éponine dies.]
[MARIUS (alone)]
Grow
[Marius pulls Éponine closer, crying as he holds her tightly.]
Touching, but the 1st to fall was actually Monsieur Mafbeuf (Victor Hugo's book) still, loving end for Eponine being with Marius.
2:21 "I don't feel any pain".. the way she sang this was so good. We can hear the pain 😔
I saw this recently and I started sobbing during this.
Is it bad everytime I listen to this I cry? ;(
if it is, consider me guilty of doing said bad thing
no its good, i think
saintcorey90 wow... I have a stone heart I guess... I did cry at gavroche tho
I'm crying just listening to it! ; (
this song made me cry at the play (student version by CYT)
😿
yes! and then enjolras' death is so iconic!
She is the best Eponine, it just hits the soul.
Its Eponine's death scene... One of the saddest parts in the film :'(
At least, the best edition of all I had ever listen.
This is SO beautiful!!!
I know 😭😭😭😭
I cried so much when I saw this part...
My favorite song from the musical. I prefer Lea Salonga and Michael Ball (from the 10th Anniversary cast,) but Frances Ruffelle does the song justice.
I was doing my French homework, and now I'm crying. Great.
I think that i wass crying whenever she was singing..
I know i hate the people who do this but im doing this.. FANTINE'S DEATH WAS SADDER
on the contrary this is my favourite version of this song-- which I had to sift through a number of youtube videos to find
Oh we crying in the club when they start harmonizing
one of the best songs in the world
Thanks to both!! =)
@ohmyrowling96 Actually, I think it's Samantha Barks, Taylor Swift was considered, but the role ultimately went to Samantha, who played has played Eponine before.
Damnit man, why am I crying at the club rn?
I know, he was so brilliant!! Aww I want to see it again xD Oh just realised I spelt Eponine wrong, oops :P
this is in it yes, and its really good!!!!!
Thisis beautiful ♥
yes it is and it is amazing i wept buckets :)
Yes it is. It was very good.
Also does the intro sound like Castle on a Cloud to anyone else? Specifically the line "I love you very much"?
Best day
2 people are out of their minds!
Watch Jodie Leatt's version, not great quality but sung even better than the original!
"Jodie Leatt On My Own"
Such a beautiful song!
of course, every song is in the film.
Most of "Little people" is missing too
Why does Eponine sound like Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors
Oh shit I just noticed that
Alexis Rhodes : Eponine
Zane Truesdale : Marius
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and Les Miserables
GX Miserables
Not every song. Dog Eat Dog and I Saw Him Once are not featured in the movie.
@Fanatic4500 And how do you think a dying girl should sound like.. bubbly and cheerful?
i like the symphonic version
@Cordine09 Yep, Cameron announced it the day after I commented x) I'm quite glad about that, at least we'll get someone from a stage!
this song was ruined when my dad said, "time to go to sleep!"
honestly as much as i say i dislike frances, she kinda grows on you
@Fanatic4500 I know what you mean. I used to hate On My Own because of that. But then I saw another version and Eponine just sounded so amazing.
@ohmyrowling96 No, Taylor Swift was considered but they went with Samantha Barks.
Lea Michele was also considered.
I'm so confused..... This is the saddest song.... And I know it's the eponine death scene..... But how did Eponine die?
xxVictoria xx Graham She was shot
She took a bullet for Marius
Well that makes you and me i love the musical but know nothing of the plot
Shot from her hand and back
She gets shot
I honestly like the Little Fall of Rain from the Les Mis high school version better
oh is this where everyone dies? eponine dies i know that much
Her shot in the gut I feel no pain her living twenty minutes after being shot me how?????????
@Fanatic4500 That's just the way Frances Ruffelle (and a lot of Eponines in general) sound, unfortunately. Eponine should have more vibrato like Lea Salonga (from the 10th anniversary concert recording,) but that's just my opinion.
to me, david bryant sounds very much like michael ball
@andromache007 I'm not complaining about the TONE of her voice. I'm saying that her voice in general is just kind of obnoxious. She sounds like this in all of the songs. She sounds like she's pouting. She's not bad at all, I just don't like her voice.
me 2
if anyone already saw the film...can u tell me if this is in? And how is it?
it is and it sucks. looks like marius is laughing at her.
I was in a production of this and was eponine and my Marius was amazing at the reactions
@surita88 It's Taylor Swift.... I don't know about you, but I'm panicking!
Its in it alright. Very moving! Overall the film is great. Even Russel Crowe sings well.
@JulieAlbright7 Yeah, and if I was dying I doubt I would be complaining. Plus, she is supposed to be at peace. She died in Marius's arms. She knows he will never love her the way she loves him.
Well shit
She's dying you moron, it should be pouty. None of her dreams will come true
I think this is the recording I bought back in 7th grade when I first saw this on Broadway. I'm going to check out Lea Salonga, though...
Goosebumps. ruclips.net/video/IyPy2Iqq-NM/видео.html I'm a believer.
Love this song, hate the singer .-.
