Honestly, I would have hard time deciding to pay $170 for perpetual license If there was one. But Annually... Absolutely Not!

Maybe a 1 off payment like Simplify 3D would be better way to go.

Lets all hope Elegoo releases a board replacement that boots Chitubox for good for < $170.

Looks decent but not sure it can justify a $170 per year. Especially when it comes to hobbyists

    • @Monocure3DProTips

$3.20 per week doesn’t sound like that much to me! It’s like skipping a coffee a couple of days!

@@Monocure3DProTips Yeah that is an old justification that just doesn't fly with the vast majority of users.
Subscription-based services like these are nothing more than a cash grab. The only way it would be even remotely worth it is if there were constant weekly/monthly updates to improve and add more features and then then it would be a push.
But most of us know that any real form of update in relation to 3d printing is sporadic at best.
Even Lychee reduced their exorbitant pricings and S3D completely erased the yearly subscriptions they were trying to implement.
Dont get me wrong, it looks decent, but not $220AUD yearly worth it

@@MJAussie360 fair enough, they must be aiming at the people who intend to make money from printing. I do not like subscription based pricing, but have had to accept it for most of the programs I now use. This makes me have to chose wisely as they can all add up very quickly!

@@Monocure3DProTips Yep I can see that. Maybe a business or enterprise edition or something similar or base a subscription off businesses with multiple licenses. Im not sure, they should look more carefully into it. Especially when slicers like Lychee are nipping at their feet and much cheaper.
I think they need to understand that while there are some businesses like yourself who would fit into their key demographic, the vast majority of us are hobbyists. Prices like these turn people off products in the long run.

@@Monocure3DProTips $3.20/week multiplied by the 100 other things we seem to need these days that are "only" $2-3/week. That's a crappy justification for such minimal benefit. Even as a business, this is difficult to justify over existing tools.

The video showed some features I was really excited about, especially the island detection and removal. I purchased based on this review. Not sure this was a good idea. I am using Windows 10 and this is at best early beta software. There are many missing functions, such as the island editing features. The software closes with out warning. Start a new project, load an stl, save the project. Then start a second new project, load an stl, save the project. You just saved the second project over the first project. All that work in the first project is now gone. There are more issues, those are the ones that really annoy me. I like the premise and where Chitubox is going with this idea. I feel the price is very steep compared to other subscription products on the market, such as Office 365. I do not think the Windows 10 version is ready for sale. I am looking forward to when this product is fully functional and working smoothly.

The Guys at Chitubox are constantly improving their software with updates. If you are still unhappy with the product ask them for a refund.

I typically upgrade my printers after a year or two. If the trend of “1 year of free pro subscription with printer purchase” keeps up, then I’ll have no issues.

As far as I am aware Simplify3D has not been updated in years, and now it’s looking like Chitubox boards will be forced to use the pro version??

I know - I’ve been waiting (like everyone else!!) for the new Simplify3D version. I think Chitubox will always support a free option.

Yeah, about that... Chitu is making sure that's not an option by switching their controller boards to an encrypted file format that only Chitubox can generate.
