I was thinking about buying these tires but the lack of a snowpeak rating may steer me towards the AT3W instead. I think the snowpeak rating is important with our PNW snow and rainy winters.
Get a real winter tire instead and use these for the rest of the year. 3 peak rated all-terrains are better than all-seasons for sure but nothing compared to a real winter tire.
It was because of Ryan that I bought Falken Wildpeaks for my new-to-me Subaru Outback a few years back and I couldn't be happier! They've been perfect on dirt roads and snow. They're absolutely fantastic tires!
I'd like to see an extended test of these on road vs other ATs. I find that I spend hours driving to an off-road destination and on-road performance, esp. noise, is equally important. I have a set of Nokian ATs that are pretty good on road and good off-road as well, they have a similar tread pattern to these Falkens. But, probably not in the budget, it's a comparo that no one seems to do.
Hated the Wildpeak AT3w on my 4runner in the Sierra's during winter, they sucked if you had a light snow dusting on the street. Lost faith in the Falken Wildpeak name... running the Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek, love them.
Good to know about the AT3w performance on snow. My KO2 has over 90,000 miles with no issues and needing replacement soon so I’ve been shopping. KO2s is also alright in snow, I travel with chains in the winter. Perhaps I’ll get the KO3.
Currently using Falken MT01 C load on my 4runner, like that it’s got 3 ply sidewall. It couldn’t tell a difference in performance between the AT3Ws and MT01 with Seattle weather. This Rugged Terrain seem like it would be the perfect replacement.
It would be awesome if they had 3 peak mountain snow flake rating for my on-road winter needs. For my 4Runner I would not go over Load C (I had bad experience with comfort on Load E tires on my 4Runner). The weight of those RTs are little too much for my 4R. These days I'm checking Toyo OC AT3 SL tires on one of my 4Runners while the other has Falken WP AT3W SL.
These Falkens look to have a pretty similar tread pattern to the Mickey Thompson Baha Boss tires that I run on my vehicle. I wonder how they'd compare on your hill climb. Looks like the Falkens did quite well. A front locker, and that Ranger would be pretty unstoppable. Cool new trails Ryan!
Do you still have your OEM tires on rims? It would be great to see a performance comparison of the new tires versus the factory tires on your new roads.
No, we used factory wheels with the Wildpeak RTs. The stock General Grabbers were on par with an AT3W but are much worse about holding rocks and throwing them from the treads.
Another very entertaining and informative video. Great course, just keeps getting better. And you really want to know. Where did the Sidewinder go? Maybe lower the air pressure. Greetings.
Nice review. Been eyeing these but man are they heavy!! That said I think I’ll go for the C load 285s and mount them on a set of Method Beadgrip wheels. I’ll use these for May-Oct for the summer trails and then go back to my current 265 AT3Ws SL on the stock 4Runner wheels for Nov-Apr for the snow, braking/MPG improvement and winter compound performance of those tires.
I agree with you. I think the Ranger seems to be capable of doing everything the channel needs. People get bored of things quickly, and channels usually cycle through different vehicles much sooner than most people would so that they can make new content though. I am pleasantly surprised with how long Ryan has held on to the ranger though. They are really good trucks
He’s got a new 2024 raptor ranger on order, I’m sure that’s what’s going to replace his tremor. I agree I’ve loved seeing his ranger on the channel, I’ll be sad to see it go.
What was the weighy penalty going to these 10 plys? Also, snow tires arent trying to evacuate snow like mud tires do mud, they are trying to compact it so the "snow on snow" sticks better than rubber on snow
what happened to the area there. was it like forrest destroyed by a fire? it looks like a desert now, but judging by the huge dead trees this seems to be a forrest before...?
I would so love to see a demo of tires like these on your course but put on something like a Jetta or an AWD Prius, lol. Just curious how much it makes a difference on a vehicle that has no business doing this.
So - if you want to go out and explore Nature's Winter Wonderland, both on-road and off-road, I am still thinking AT3W and/or Nokian Outpost AT?? Same for safety in Winter driving in the PNW; or NWA where I live - areas where it doesn't snow much. I would prefer to have the best Snow rated AT's on the vehicle for those occasional Winter Snowstorms. Or - will these be good to go for 90% on-road driving in an area with only 3-5 noticeable accumulations of snow per Winter?
General tire question. For raining pavement, what would be better? A really good all season like Michelin cross climate 2, or an AT like wild peak at3w? Trying to settle a debate. No off-road at all. Strictly talking about pavement performance when it’s wet.
I'm still gonna be sad when you trade this Ranger for the new one. IMO the new one isn't as good-looking or as reliable. Plus, I prefer the traditional gauges with the smaller digital info screen.
@@davidgrunklee8407 lol. 3 months to repair the dent and it was time to move into something newer. We try to keep vehicles current with the market. At the time we thought the new 4Runner was around the corner, but it was delayed.
All-terrain tires seem to give up a margin of on road safety over good all-seasons. With one exception in recent testing, the AT tires stopped about 5 ft longer on dry pavement from 50-60mph and up to 10 ft in the wet! Not quite worth it for me. I do miss the rugged look.😢
@@drivingsports Good advice as always. Perhaps tire shops should place a reminder sticker on the dash of AT buyers. Much like they do in Europe when you buy winter tires.
They got plenty of power in 4 hi the traction control remains on it limits tire spin. You can put it in 4 lo and traction control goes off completely or turn it off with the button.

What type of rock sliders/ step bar are those on the tremor?
This would've been the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the difference of airing down tires and what that offers.
Nah

Baja Boss AT is all the tire you’ll ever need.

I absolutely love my AT3Ws, it's hard to imagine I could expect more from these!

Oh yeah!! That hill climb was epic.. Cannot wait for snow to hit these new trails..
Another informative and fun video. Now to see if I can put a set of those on my OBW. Thanks as always for such detailed demonstrations!

That was very impressive. It would be interesting to see how it performs on mud, slick roots, and wet rocks.
Agreed. Looking forward to more weather to try them out.
You really put them to the test!
Love Faulken a/t tires but I need the 3 peak rated version for winter driving which is 1/3 of the year where I live

This was fantastically done. Subbed.
Would you say the EVCX is doing what the GOAT modes do in a Bronco? How would the tires be on a rock climb? How about in mud?

How did these do prior to getting the Raptor? My K02 on the Tremor are almost ready to replace and was thinking another k02, K03 or maybe these.
People said Falken Rubitrek were quiet too. No. They're definitely one of the loudest at's I've driven on.
I bet it’s going to be tough to eventually part ways with your ranger. Seems like such a great truck

I thought the snow is supposed to stick to the tire...Good job on the review anyway, these are unusually rare...
Yes, that right is because snow against snow has more grip than snow against rubber.
Just up your way in Cle Elum . So many great roads trail views awesome
thanks for the video Ryan, when are you bringing Crosstrek Wilderness to the course?
Scheduled for October. It will be after the first drive video.
7:05 As far as I remember all seasons are designed to load up with snow, snow on snow traction is greater than rubber on snow traction.
Nahhhhhh. Snow packed tires turn the snow underneath to ice
With that extra power, what's the MPG of your Ranger?

Provided by Falken for testing. We have no pony in this race.
Thanks for the review

No way!! My KO2’s were much less than that!
You’re nuts, my KO2’s make no noise.
Awesome! 😊👍🏼
ryan definitely used this video idea as an excuse to build new trails
Love Central Wa!!!
Any balancing issues? I keep hearing about it with these tires.
None. Brought them to a local tire shop and they got them mounted without any issues.
I think it's very odd that Falken did not put the cooling ribs along the bead like they do on all the other Wildpeak Tires.

these vs the at3 for my 4runner?
If you’re not sure - AT3W
AT3s are a safe bet on about anything.
Thanks for the review, Ryan. Do you still have your 4Runner?
Nope. Sold it at the end of 2021 after the TFL collab. Considering buying a new one or a Land Cruiser next year.

I can't get over how ugly the tire is. It doesn't really matter, but it just looks ugly...
