    I ran 3 sets of Falkenwildpeaks AT3W and found out they were prone to losing lateral traction. My friends that run Toyo Open Country AT3s didn't have that problem. I noticed that the compound on the Falkens were twice as rigid as the Toyos. When I saw that the AT4Ws were marketed as having "the same compound" I was like...... that's not good.

    You don't need to put it in manual 1st gear You had it in offroad Plus mode. that's the reason for that it keeps it from overshifting.

    I'm in the market for a new tire. Had the BFG KO2 for 6 yrs with 98K miles on them. Considering btwn the Falken AT4W and RT. What is your opinion since you have the Falken RT on your Ford? I now live in Alaska and I switch out to studded winter tires so winter performance is not important for me for the Falken. Thanks!

    • @drivingsports
      @drivingsports  6 месяцев назад +3

      So far I’ve loved the RT in mixed conditions. Since you have the snow angle covered with proper winter tires, I’d go with the RT.

    Nice you are given the chance to get out of the PNW now and then. Makes for interesting variety. As for the Jeeps, great that you got to show off a ride in 1. As for the tires. Well, I know you like the Falkens. But it has been watching your use of them and how they worked in RW conditions that made my mind up on going with KO2's. Their lateral grip I seen you slip a lot with them. Didn't like that. While this specific example of the 4's seemed strong, they were also 37's. Might have been improved upon. Too soon to tell.

    • @dadventuretv2538
      @dadventuretv2538 6 месяцев назад

      @@dmarable79 no lift required. You can go to full extension without any rubbing. Although I think that they fit on the stock 7.5 inch wheel, I got the AEV Savagre 2 wheel which is 8.5 inches wide. Per the specs they’re not technically not supposed to be on a wheel less than 8 inches wide.

    Good review. I just purchased a '15 jeep wk2 w/quadra lift and was already looking at these tires. I'm still new on how to choose the "right" tires, my understanding so far for just offroading/overlanding is to go for an LT am I right? And does anyone happen to know what the maximum size that will fit on the wk2 w/18 in. Wheels? Oh and I was wondering if that was Nathan from Outdoor Auto until I read your credits lol😂 can't wait for his review as well. You guys are the best on 411

    You gotta test tires somewhere other than Moab (that’s on Falken tho). I could probably do Poison Spider with all seasons. I run MTs because of Colorado’s rocky trails and just better all around off-road performance from what I’ve experienced making trail guides.

    • @dadventuretv2538
      @dadventuretv2538 6 месяцев назад +1

      The AT3Ws do great out here in the Appalachians in mud and wet shale and granite, which is slippery af. They have the deepest grooves of any A/T and are pretty wide, giving them the good mud capability. I do find it ironic that the rock in Moab is called slickrock given that it’s the grippiest rock around when dry. Our climbs out here are all kinds of slippery- from loose rocks to sand and gravel to wet rocks and roots. Every time I watch a Moab vid I’m like, damn I wish I had that kinda grip. Lol.

  • @JRs-guitars
    @JRs-guitars 6 месяцев назад +2

    Time for more jeep videos... even if it's not a wrangler.
    Falken says the narrower grooves is for better dry road performance but will hinder mud performance. The AT4W will not be replacing the AT3W thankfully.

    • @dadventuretv2538
      @dadventuretv2538 6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for that info. Yeah, I have a LOT of mud where I wheel, the fact that the AT3Ws I currently run have deep wide grooves is great bc I get all the benefits of an A/T but with capability not far off some mudders. I hope they don’t discontinue the AT3Ws.

    Finally a wrangler rubicon video!Ive run poison spider (and the full trifecta) a few times, and it’s a great trail. Did it first in a 200 series Land Cruiser and after that in a couple of my jeeps. I’ve been waiting to see you test a jeep on your usual off road courses but it never happens. As a JLUR owner it’s often frustrating for me to watch you test the traction control and articulation on crossovers.

    Unless they improved hydroplaning resistance and increased winter traction, I'll be going to a different brand. My 37" AT3W's handled Metal Masher and Steel Bender at EJS this past week without issue, but they were borderline straight up garbage on the drive home and have been super MEH during winter storms (yes, my tread wear is still good with all 5 showing north of 10/32's remaining).

    that dude.. in that truck @14:05 and what you said is priceless. this was a great video. I drive rc crawlers and this was great to see how full size does as well. tires are so very much important and I learned the hard way when I was young and slid all over the highway at 75 because I didn't want to spend money on good tires. I now have some falken on my sedan, but they still aren't as good as the prior michelin and i'm kinda regretting it. But tires are so dependent too on terrain and area average temp and type size and weight of vehicle too.
