First let me say, great show, I think you are one of the best reviewers out there, keep it up! So two caveats that weren't mentioned. One, warranty with the tuner is only good to 36,000 miles. if you have purchased extended warranty and use the tuner, you void your extended warranty. Two, for warranty to stay valid with tuner, it must be installed at a Ford performance shop. Maybe one more caveat, if you purchased the tuner from a third party and not directly from Ford, you will have a hard time getting even a Ford Performance shop to do the install. I purchased one for a great price from Stage3Motorsports and I cant find a Ford Performance shop that will install the tuner. I have an extended warranty, so Im going to wait a bit before I install and will probably end up doing it myself.
The reason why they tell you to get it installed at a dealer is so they’ll have it on record that the truck is tuned. If you do it yourself there’s a good chance wherever you take your truck to get serviced will never know that the truck is tuned and your warranty will be fine. It’s a risk for sure. I bought my tuner from Levittown Ford and just had my dealer install it. No issues. I’m not too worried about the extended power train warranty. I might even get a different tuner once the factory warranty runs out. 5 star has tuning where you can select between multiple different tunes for different driving scenarios. You can even buy a warranty from them.
@@JonBecker81 there is a counter for when the ECU was flashed, so they can tell that SOMEONE flashed it and I think the miles when it was flashed. Someone I know had a shop do a tune on his f150, gave him some profiles and I guess didn't mention one was an e85 tune, well he ran that one in 91 which killed the engine. He flashed it back but Ford didn't cover it because they saw the flash history. I want that tune from Ford but didn't know it kills the extended warranty. Even with stock tune I would like an intercooler for summer towing but want zero chance of Ford telling me I'm SOL.
@@66racer I talked to a service manager at a Ford dealer and he said most of the guys who work on these wouldn’t even know what to look for if one was tuned. Maybe if it blew a head gasket or something then they’d look a little closer. Or Maybe that’s just not saying a lot about the techs working there? I tow a travel trailer with mine with the FP tune. Wolf pup 16 PF. It does fantastic. Merging on the interstate I’ll look down and realize I’m doing 75 in a flash. I also have fox 2.0’s front and back and 32 inch KO2’s. Is basically a level 2 FP ranger with the stock black 18’s and no blue tow hooks. Just the standard fx4 hooks. I didn’t see the purpose in paying for stuff I didn’t want/need.
@@JonBecker81 Nice to hear, the towing factor is why I would only do the Ford tune over others. I don't want to give up my extended warranty though so that's a little red flag. I have the Tremor on 33" ko2, still handles towing our Geo Pro 19bh well, even in Utah. I just see that tune as cheap power. Can't get those gains on an NA motor for that price.
I did this with my Focus ST. It bumped the HP to 305 from 270 and the torque increased, as I recall, by 100 ft. lbs. Made that little hatchback a monster. I've got a 2021 Ranger XLT and with ForScan added the terrain management with switch and changed a few other small things on the display.
I have the tremor ranger as well and as much as I would love the power boost I'm keeping it as is. I have roughly 65 mile commute and take long trips towing a pop-up for vacation. Premium gas just is not what I want put my pocket book through. The financing for monthly payments is hard enough. I really can't wait for the updates on your rig. Keep up the good work!
Yeah definitely don't blame you for that, I have a very long commute myself taking my daughter to school in the next county. I recently just tried using E85 in my F150 flex fuel. It's only $2 a gallon here in Western Ohio. Mpg only dropped 2/10 of 1 mile per gallon. But enjoy the ranger, the tremors are very attractive looking vehicles. I'm actually considering a ranger myself. If I go down to a smaller truck, I definitely want to have some off road goodies like the tremor offers.
Im right there with ya, 65 mile commute as well. It’d be $575 more a year vs. regular gas (where I live). While I could afford that, it just doesnt seem worth the 1 second 0-60 gain, especially since I rarely tow.
Got a tune for my ranger from OZtuning. Stock hardware and drop in airfilter (Omega tune,93-e30 tune) Made the truck really quick. My ZFG tune was a blast too. Waaaay more power than the Ford Performance tune but...if you're concerned about warranty this is a good option.
The Ford Performance tune was one of my first modification I made as well. A cat-back really woke up the truck after the tune and tweaks from ForScan, like removing the augmented audio really made this truck one of my favorite cars I have owned.
can you tell me more about it? i have 22 xlt, but haven't done any mods yet, i find my fx4 rear ride is very stiff and you feel every bump, front feels fine, i heard that ford performance 2.0 improved ride overall....what are your thoughts? and what is forscan?
I love Ford simply for the fact they know their customers will want to modify and flash their vehicles ans you can do it through them while keeping the warranty . Shoutout Ford . If only they offered a Tremor with a 6' box !
It should be noted that the available 3yr / 36000mi warranty that comes with this tune is only applicable when applied/installed by a Ford dealership OR an ASE/Red Seal certified technician....you can DIY the tune yourself as seen but you open yourself up to questions if you rod on the truck afterwards and try to use any existing factory warranty (powertrain) Also using 93 octane in stock form greatly pumps the power of the 2.3 vs 87 without a tune....I'm still trying to find performance reviews of using 93 octane stock vs this tune...outside of an improved shift pattern i have not yet been able to find ratings to support a large gain over just using the higher octane
I can’t wait for you to get the new, next GEN ranger. We will see what the next gen Tacoma and Ranger will do. Next winter I will be buying one of them.
I gave ford a chance to earn my business. Tried to buy a Ranger from the local stealerships, they wouldn't remove the insane markups so I decided not to buy anything new yet. They are even marking up the mavericks $10k 😂
Good luck finding trucks at MSRP. Trucks in the US are MAJORLY popular. And small and mid sizers are selling non-stop. I bought my 20 Ranger right before the prices skyrocketed. If you want a Ranger or Tacoma or whatever just keep trying and be patient for a decent deal.
It would be interesting to see a stock Ranger running on 93 octane. I use premium and can tell you the engine appears to widen the knock sensor tolerance and allows more performance. Some sources state you can get up to 30 HP by simply using 93 octane. My 2021 runs way different on the higher grade gasoline.
That's fair...but in terms of actual #'s the dyno graphs supplied by ford performance that demonstrate the boost of 45hp and 60 ft lbs tq is over #'s achieved on using tune and 93 over 87 octane. Ford released data (As shown on Ford Authority's website) on the 2.3 in the full size bronco that says using 87 octane nets 275hp and 310 ft lbs torque....using 93 octane the engine outputs 300hp and 325 ft lbs of torque. I guess then what I'm wondering is that if using this tune in conjunction with 93 octane already would I be looking at then a gain of 25hp and 45 ft lbs of tq....which is nothing to sneeze at ...I really just can't find the comparable #'s
Great review. I was seriously considering a Ranger but ended up with an F-150 simply because I couldn’t find a decent deal on the former. The FP tune was one of the major factors for me in deciding since it bumped up an already torque heavy powertrain and you keep the warranty.
Can't go wrong w/either. Ordered a '23 Ranger XLT Tremor Jan13. Gonna take 3mos at least. Supply chain is still rough. Makes it tough for the popular models ppl want. *Run good full synthetic engine oil asap. That rig will last forever w/good basic maintenance* .

Impressive gains. 3 things kinda suck about this. First, you need a windows computer which I dont have. Second, you have to run premium fuel, which is around $10 more per fill-up, or $500 more per year. Lastly, it’s $900 which is really on the expensive side for ECU tunes… but at least you dont void the warranty. All in all, I would probably pass on it. Great review!!! This video couldn't have had better timing. I'm looking to trade my 2015 4x4 F150 V8 for a Ranger. I no longer pull a heavy trailer and now have 2 young daughters that I drive to school. We had Rangers on my dad's farm growing up and they were excellent little work trucks. I was on fence about going (slightly) smaller but this video might have just convinced me to finally making that decision. Thanks for your honest reviews. 👍
What a great video and well presented! I plan on getting a Tremor and yes, I will buy this kit at the get go. Needless to say, liked and subscribed and thank you!
I got the 2023 ford ranger tremor I love it so far had it for three weeks now . My only question of advice is shall I use regular gas or premium? And why ?
Great review Ryan. Another good mod is a larger exhaust system with a Borla, FlowMaster, etc exhaust and tuned exhaust headers. And yes a K&N air filter. I’ve had this done on my 11 Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 with the 4.0 V6. I t has a LOT more hp, torque and mpg. I went from 19 mpg on the highway to 23mpg. It’s 12 years old but it only has 35K miles.

Panel filters can be a bit fussy to clean but I think still worth it unless you just don’t want to deal with that and oiling. It’s the even oil distribution part I don’t particularly like, so I gravitate towards dry flow filters.
Id love to see more videos of the tremor! Have you thought about making a second channel? To post more ranger off-road videos and a channel to post the behind the scenes of the 'rescue' content?
Very interesting. I have the 21 Ranger XLT FX4, and so I was excited until I got to the part about needing higher octane fuel. Up here in Canada, that fuel is significantly more expensive per litre than regular. And with the carbon tax and other taxes, there is simply no way I'm spending that extra on fuel. Fortunately, I've never felt like I need more power. Although I've heard the air filter is a good improvement on its own too, without the tune.
It'll be awesome to have those extra horses/torque at the push of a button (with ocassional premium fuel). On top of fuel cost vs regular, how is the mileage hit?
Love the review, but the BIG item you forgot is fuel mileage. What was the change? Also, if you were concerned about traction, you could have engaged the diff lock for the speed runs.
Maybe I'm too traditional or perhaps uninformed on the newer technology, however from my understanding you wouldn't want to lock your diffs unless you are off road at lower speeds. Otherwise you will put extra stress on the drivetrain and most likely break something.
@@___Karma__ It is generally accepted logic not to drive in 4WD, or with the diff locked on dry paved roads. BUT, when driving in a straight line, there is no extra stress on the drive line and it is not harmful to do so for just a quarter mile. All four wheels are traveling at the same speed when driving in a straight line.
Yes agreed, I would have locked diff and ran 4x4 high just sitting the run and disengage before turning again. Should all be fine and I would also power boost launch. Bet I could hit under 6 seconds if done right all without hurting a thing except Toyotas ego..Baha
2023 Ranger XLT. Had to slow the thing down because of using brake pedal too much in city driving. Solved that by not using gasoline higher that 89 octane.
Not too shabby! I'd definitely rather have the additional power with premium gas over less power on regular. I mean you'll probably be spending more per mile in depreciation for a vehicle like this anyways, so why not make the most out of those miles if you can keep the factory warranty? The only thing that concerns me about this is the K&N filter, as K&N filters are dreadfully bad at actually filtering particulates (I'd suggest watching the Project-Farm video on it), but it's otherwise pretty sweet to see manufacturer-backed tuning options like this. As for speed, the newest Colorado with the 310hp/430lb-ft 2.7L i4T will probably be a sleeper truck, but until that releases we can't know for certain. The 6.8s 0-60mph time they gave sounds EXTREMELY conservative because that's how quick the early lower-output 310hp/348lb-ft 2.7T Silverados were...
Here's a real question. Does the tune just change the truck while it is shifted in DRIVE mode or, does it change both DRIVE and SPORT. I have not seen much on if it does in fact change the way the truck drives while shifted into SPORT, before vs after tune.
Great video Ryan always a pleasure to watch your reviews. I myself on a 2020 ford ranger xl with the stx package, I got the small screen which is not a big deal to me however I also got the rear diff lock and that’s nice it is the 4x4 and I’ve really enjoyed this truck. Of course your earlier videos is what got me wanting the ranger. Thanks for great content 💯💯
That's all I'd care to have as well, except the extended cab instead of the crew cab so I can get the 6 foot bed. Base model 4x4 and locker is all I need, all that touch screen crap they can keep as far as I'm concerned, in 30+ years of driving I haven't ever thought of needing or wanting a tablet in the dash of my vehicle....buttons and knobs are 100% more accurate and far more functional, and much safer to use than having to hunt through menus while driving. They whine about distracted driving, yet force you to be distracted looking for crap in apps and menus....piss poor idea from all automakers.
Doesn’t the K&N air filter require a light oil treatment on the intake side? I haven’t had a K&N on any of my vehicles recently but I do remember they required “oiling” with K&N oil.
Australian Rangers only came with diesel engines. The new generation Ranger Raptor model is fitted with the 2.3 Ecoboost engine and coil rear suspension. Not sure if this upgrade will be available in Australia.
@drivingsports Is this the same Ranger Tremor you tested against the lime green Tacoma TRD Pro? If so, what happened to the pain in the butt side steps?
Sorry if this is a stupid question but what happens if you run regular 87 gas with the tune? Besides not getting the full power would you damage anything?
Thanks for showing the chicken. I also like that you are rocking the canon R3. Would love a video of you going over all the equipment you use to make these videos. Thanks.
Performance is great with tune... reliability is yet to be seen. I have my doubts power increase comes at a cost of engine longevity. This is why Toyota stopped offering the Tundra with available supercharger, which gave it insane performance. Interestingly, that supercharger set up was still reliable... just not up to Toyota standards. Now, if I had a ranger and had the extra weight and accessories as you do, would I do the flash? Absolutely 😅! For 1,000$ and factory warranty backed? Why wouldn't l lol😊. Enjoy.
It lowers the warranty to 36k miles and that is only if it is installed by SAE mechanic. If not, then yes, it can be used to deny a warranty claim (depending on the dealer).
I ain’t the smartest man alive, but wouldn’t a dyno provide a mode definitive baseline when measuring power at the wheels? Just sayin if you’re gonna do something, do it right.
For 900.00 dollars plus more expensive gas you shaved off one second on the Ranger. My 2021 Tacoma with 33 in. Falken at tires added was at 8.0 zero to 60. After adding a Sprint throttle booster for 280.00 dollars and running regular fuel one second was shaved off the 0-60 at 7.0 seconds.
So, update from my comment from two months ago. I live in Oklahoma and couldn't find any dealers that would even attempt to install the tune on my truck. So I got fed up with it all and installed it myself and have no regrets at all. The entire process took about an hour and a half and was very simple to do. I was really wanting the improved shift pattern, for me the power is fine. Everything is improved now, shift pattern, power and acceleration and it tows a trailer much better now as well. I did not install the K&N air filter, Im still using stock. My fuel mileage is still roughly the same maybe just a bit less in city driving. It was such a change it took me a bit to relearn to drive the truck! It would be interesting to see how much performance gain just with the K&N filter installed if there's any.
Probably not noticeable.
Again! Dope intro!
It'll be awesome to have those extra horses/torque at the push of a button (with ocassional premium fuel). On top of fuel cost vs regular, how is the mileage hit?
For a factory set up(*See keeping warranty in tact) shaving off an entire second, Ryan??? Wow.. That's impressive for a TRUCK!!!!
Does this effect the warranty on my 21’ Tremor? Also can it be removed in future? Thanks
Warranty shouldn’t be an issue since it’s a Ford upgrade. Can be reflashed back to stock at any time.
Bet I could hit under 6 seconds if done right all without hurting a thing except Toyotas ego..Baha
hows mpg got affected after tune up?
2023 Ranger XLT. Had to slow the thing down because of using brake pedal too much in city driving. Solved that by not using gasoline higher that 89 octane.
Last time I got as at my local sheetz (in NC) Premium was a penny cheap then regular. So far it has been that way for a month or so now.
Hope they make a tune for the Maverick
Can you please make a video of the 4Runner limited? Full time 4WD. Thank you
Not too shabby!
That's a fast truck they might not tune it from the factory like that too for economy it would be interesting to see the fuel economy before and after
Here's a real question. Does the tune just change the truck while it is shifted in DRIVE mode or, does it change both DRIVE and SPORT. I have not seen much on if it does in fact change the way the truck drives while shifted into SPORT, before vs after tune.
Because of the extra power, torque and throttle calibration Drive feels more like Sport mode. In Sport mode the truck shifts noticeably faster
Nice test. Thanks!
@@wildbill23c agreed totally
Just wait until the Raptor Ranger makes is debut. Gonna have a crazy amount of HP and torque with Fox Live Suspension.
That's what I'm waiting for
For 100k lol
How do like the looks of the 2024 Ranger? Just curious and when will get it to test it out?
Can you switch back so you can use 87 fuel? Sometimes you can't get 91.
Would keep the paper filter over the oil bath filter and do the tune 👍
FYI it's not an oil bath filter. Just breathes a little better.
I had this done on my 22 ranger tremor, ford has to install this to retain your factory warranty too. I love the extra power.
Doesn’t the K&N air filter require a light oil treatment on the intake side? I haven’t had a K&N on any of my vehicles recently but I do remember they required “oiling” with K&N oil.
They come pre oiled from the factory these days. If you wash it you will need to re oil it.
@@13Voodoobilly69 Thanks
Australian Rangers only came with diesel engines. The new generation Ranger Raptor model is fitted with the 2.3 Ecoboost engine and coil rear suspension. Not sure if this upgrade will be available in Australia.
Just purchased for my 2021 Ranger. Dum question I'm sure but the programmer needs to say plugged in at all times?
Does the gas mileage change ?
We lost about 1 mpg. But the temptation to drive more aggressively will probably make it even worse of a drop.
It would start knocking, Then pull timing and that kills power
Knocking will cause damage over time.
Thanks for showing the chicken. I also like that you are rocking the canon R3. Would love a video of you going over all the equipment you use to make these videos. Thanks.
MPG?
To be determined. Will do a follow up in a couple months.
@@drivingsports Thank you, sir. I trust your findings!
what bed cover do you have on your ranger?
Does the programmer have. To STAY with the vehicle all the time once tuned? Or do you unplug it once tuned?
Used to have to use oil to treat the filter. Do they now come pre-oiled? Or just forget?? Curious.
Pretty sure K&n’s come pre oiled
The K&N that came with my Ford Performance tune was dry, not an oil bath.
great info, definitely would consider for my ranger, how quick is it to revert to stock? and any idea om MPG in just cruising around?
Takes about 20 minutes tops. I average about 17-19 MPG around town and 22-24 when taking trips.
Totally off topic of the video but where did you buy your Subaru jacket? 10:31
Hey, I have a tremor 21, is this will work on it?
Yes, this tune is available on 2019 up Rangers
Of course bro🤦
@@joshuaallswang8016 I asked because the kit on amazon says 19-20
Nice job. What rack are you running on the back of your Ranger?
Yakima Lock N Load
I love my Ranger.
Dry flow K&N filter? That's what I put in my Ram. The rest of my mods are off road oriented, although I did just buy a throttle controller.
Should do the ranger apg conversion to the raptor hunter
Wait do you live in Washington out on the KP? I drive lackey almost everyday.
No brake boost?
Performance is great with tune... reliability is yet to be seen. I have my doubts power increase comes at a cost of engine longevity. This is why Toyota stopped offering the Tundra with available supercharger, which gave it insane performance. Interestingly, that supercharger set up was still reliable... just not up to Toyota standards. Now, if I had a ranger and had the extra weight and accessories as you do, would I do the flash? Absolutely 😅! For 1,000$ and factory warranty backed? Why wouldn't l lol😊. Enjoy.
what Bed rack is that
Yakima Overhaul HD with small platform.
Yakima Overhaul HD with small platform.
I'm getting on NOW ...thanks
According to TRIFECTA, their tune for the Colorado is 5.99s 0-60. They also say premium fuel is not required, but recommended for peak performance.
There was a time I entertained trading my Tremor for a ZR2 Bison but after a test drive I realized that V6 at high altitude is absolutely gutless.
This is absolutely great!! Do you know if this Ford factory tune exists for the Maverick?
I haven’t seen one yet.
PSA anything that affect combustion or increase power will reduce reliability.
Are you able to set it back to the original ecu?
Yes
I have the exact same truck with the Yakama Rack ... With roof tent.
Impressive. I assume it does not void your warranty?
Nope, because its a ford accessory it keeps the factory warranty.
It lowers the warranty to 36k miles and that is only if it is installed by SAE mechanic. If not, then yes, it can be used to deny a warranty claim (depending on the dealer).
Does it hurt the truck at all?
No
Might have been interesting if you had tested after only replacing the air filter...
I ain’t the smartest man alive, but wouldn’t a dyno provide a mode definitive baseline when measuring power at the wheels? Just sayin if you’re gonna do something, do it right.
is there a change in fuel economy?
Still at TBD. Currently seeing slight improvement.
Add intercooler too
Does this tune work for all of the years?
Model years 2019-2022 pre-2022 is also California approved.
Need more ranger videos! :D
But the tacoma has a 6 spd manual
It was nice to meet Gerdie the Chicken.
For 900.00 dollars plus more expensive gas you shaved off one second on the Ranger. My 2021 Tacoma with 33 in. Falken at tires added was at 8.0 zero to 60. After adding a Sprint throttle booster for 280.00 dollars and running regular fuel one second was shaved off the 0-60 at 7.0 seconds.
im pushing 4.5 seconds on my Tremor but not much to do left to her. Whats the device on your windshield thats counting 0-60
Hey what mods have you done to get it that low I have just tune and exhaust.
Any MPG variance?
Nothing noticeable so far.
As far as my extended warranty, something that was mentioned by someone in my comment two months ago resonated with me, in that my dealer probably wouldn't even know I had installed the tune on my truck and I agree with this. I for one highly recommend this tune.
Great to hear!
First time that he didn't say anything about Falken AT3W wild peak tires, I lost a bet.
I got this tune on my 2022 Ranger and noticed NO difference at all. Don’t know why but I was very disappointed
what is the average mpg with the tune? '21 ranger tremor owner here
So far it seems about the same
Don’t you have to put some damn oil in those K&N filters?
Truck would be even faster without the rack system in the back
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this soon after tax returns of course 😅
