My dad saw Jimmy Mann (19th overall pick) play in juniors and said he couldn’t even skate properly. He was shocked when he was drafted in the first round ahead of two HOF players (Goulet and Lowe) who were much better and played in the same league
Oh it looks like it deleted my comment, probably because I linked to Hockey Reference. Anyway, use Hockey Reference, it lets you see all the trophies and stuff next to Ray Bourque's seasons. Also shows you who got traded for who, like how Vancouver continued their 20 year long experiment of trading good young players for old bad ones when they traded Rick Vaive for Tiger Williams. I've spent like countless hours on Hockey Reference looking at all this draft shit like you're going over, who's best at what, etc. They have a stat called Point Shares there that sort of standardizes player value that's super awesome for telling how well players really played, so if you ever want to know why the Oilers won all those cups, check the PS of their 79 and 80 drafts. Then add Gretz. Fun trivia time! We all know who's #1 at Point Shares, but guess who's #2? Another one: Who's the all time NHL leader in on-ice goals against (goalies not included)?
Paul Reinhart had 3 sons. No one talks about the oldest, Maxwell. But like Griffin, Maxwell didn't pan out in the NHL after being drafted by Calgary. Think he played like 20 games or something.
Dude the greatest non nhl drafted player ever would have been eligible under the new 18 year old draft in '79. One wayne gretzky. This draft also included players from now defunct wha not drafted by nhl yet. Messier was a second rounder. And gartner was unlucky having been the second highest goal scorer ever never to win a cup or play in the finals (dionne) having the misfortune of being traded away multiple times including by rags in '94 for anderson three months before rags win cup. And propp played in finals 6 times for three different teams never winning a cup. And vaive (v-i-ve) was the first leaf to score 50 goals. And hartsburg was supposed to be one of the nhl's elite d men in the '80's. He did it all at the soo-was derailed by injuries that shortened his career done by end of '80's. Dude you weren't around in the '80's so maybe this isn't your 'expertise'. And the '80's was high scoring-difference is you paid a price to score goals. Unlike today's d men can't touch a fwd. or remove him from the crease or plaster his ass to the ice if he comes across the middle shit. Totally tuffer era. Bossy, gretz, others paid a price to score.
Oh man I've been waiting 43.5 years for this
HAHAHAAHAHA
Too soon to call these guys busts, people are jumping the gun too soon these days.
😂😂😂😂😂
LMFAOOOOOO facts
😂😂😂😂
I dunno that Bourque guy looks like a bust already. Never see him winning a Cup.
@@gocanuckurself1 he only won a cup at 40 and got carried yes he might be a top 50 player in this draft but not more than that
Mike Gartner was so sneaky good on Sega Genesis NHLPA 93 hockey
Ok now i want you to do all the way up to the 2018 draft 😂
HBAHAHAHAAHA imagine
@MikeBartner no I'm not kidding lol. .maybe this would be a good off season thing

Hartsburg for a short time in the 80s, was the best all-around defenseman in the world. Career ended early due to injuries.
You should do more of these. They're fun.
Fun fact: this was the first ever NHL draft to produce a player who would play into the 21st century
I always assumed you name was inspired by Gartner, now you're telling me its pure coincidence?! You may never beat the Gartner allegations...
Bro said he wouldn’t do 2012 because they are too old, and proceeded to do 1979 😂
