Goalies are not happy with their pay. They play 100 percent of the game and you can’t win without them playing well but almost all of them are paid 5-10 million less then the top forwards and defensemen. I think a number of them have talked and they want to be paid in line with top players . If you are a high end starting goalie they want 10-14 million. Every starting goalie should be at 7-8. It’s the hardest position to play in the league has the shortest career and it’s compared to being the quarterback in football but for some reason they all making less than 8 million save for a couple.

Very little goalie comps for what points to a long term star quality goalie entering prime since the market started embedding a large degree of future cap growth into pay. The Ducks certainly would not offer up their 1st round pick that is going to be another top 5 selection in a year that they already traded away their 2nd rounder. Asking for salary retention is another non-stater to a deal. The last nail in this is Swayman's age. The Ducks will be irrelevant for the next three years which wastes the best years of Swayman's career. When the team is finally good Swayman is 28 or 29 and starting to look at a decline. Much more sensible to stick with Dostal.
