I own the black FXD with the Uni-directional bezel. Super legible, tough as nails, comfortable as hell - I tend to wear it on Octopod straps or CNS Paratrooper straps - and the lume is sick & it lasts forever. This is the ultimate tool watch imo - simply love it. Fwiw, the 2nd best tool watch is the Pelagos LHD, which I also own, so if you want a date window, traditional lug configuration with a bracelet I highly recommend it also - while neither of these watches are beautiful by the classic measuring sticks, they are both so functional and so cleanly utilitarian that I find them drop dead gorgeous. ps: I prefer the black dial over the blue dial, but that is a matter of personal choice - only thing to keep in mind is the blue FXD is bidirectional bezel, whereas the black FXD is the uni-bezel.
Don't blame you one bit haha. The black and blue FXDs each have a distinctive quality to them where owning both would create a different enough experience to warrant getting both
I love my black Tudor pelagos FXD. Wear it non stop. I'm glad its not for everyone, that way the market is not flooded with them unlike the black bay lol. Maybe its my 21 years in the Army that has me liking it so much. Its been around the world to many a third world hot zones.
I tried on the FXD recently and I was impressed by how well it fit and how comfortable it is, even though I have a small wrist. The FXD and 58 GMT are top contenders for my next watch.
Have a BB54 and an FXD, both are great, but for me the FXD is the winner between the two watches without any doubt. The perfect tone of blue, the excellent case finish, the square markers against the snowflake hand, the interest of fixed lugs (I love them), the surprising versatility of it and also the fact it references historic models, but feels entirely modern
Great job. Fellow Tudor fanboy here. Love my P39 but respect the big brothers in the line. Who wants to see a white dial blk bezel Pelagos this summer? 🤞
Amazing luminous Tudory greatness! Just love the pureness of it, tooly fantastic. Painful to watch as I regret selling mine (moment of madness), will replace it eventually. Best winding action on any watch I've experienced.
tried both and went for the redbull racing edition. the dark tone makes it appear bit smaller and the red accents work fantastic. my coolest watch I guess
I have the Redbull Alinghi version and love it. I have worn it almost everyday for the past 7 months. I would get the MN but thinking of the 007 Omega Seamaster next instead for a different look and something with a bracelet.
Im glad you mentioned the weight and didnt just say it's so light weight because ahhhh titanium. Im tossing up between this and the Sinn u50 SDR (and SDR Hydro), and I've noticed that the watch heads are all about the same weight, even though the Sinn's are made of submarine steel! I image they would all wear pretty similar on a nato.
I’ve got mine on a 15 euro Garmin style strap from Amazon, which is just fantastic. Does the same thing in terms of putting the case right on your wrist. I’ve been tempted by the Nick Mankey for the same reason and I have an Erika’s on the way.
Again, great review and enthusiasm! As you emphasize with the FXD and CWC SBS diver, true military watches--not wanabees. Black dial, US Navy inspired FXD has a traditional unidirectional dive bezel. So there's that. Similar look to my submarine steel U50 Sinn. At any rate, want the blue MN Nationale bad and love the utility of the fixed bars (fan of NDC and ballistic straps). Yours and IDGuy best RUclips reviews on this watch. Thanks much!
I think a compilation video Best Of “what the wife said” is in order by now! Complete with the names of the watches she’s talking about. That would make for an entertaining roast fest!
I picked up an Mn FXD in January and am absolutely loving it. It is my first Tudor, but it has really made me want a Pelagos 39 as well. Such a cool watch that wears much better than its specs suggest
I got my FXD 1 month ago and love it. A buddy has the P39 and I think it‘s amazing. More versatile than the FXD and a perfect watch for everyday and a tad less casual. I was really considering it, but will probably get the Tudor 58 925 eventually instead.
If i didnt have a pelagos LHD i would have a FXD. I wear my pelagos with a suit all the time and my Sinn 756 both are brushed . I wouldn't necessarily wear them for "fancy occasions" thats why i "had" to buy a Nomos and DJ41 but for work they look amazing
Love it, and i think it's beautiful. I love the graduated bezel, but i still would rather a Pelagos 39 because you get the titanium bracelet, such a value compared to a Sub
I own the Red Bull Alinghi FXD and I love it (6.25inch wrist) but it wears so well and has been my daily since purchase. Can't see myself parting with it (unless they bring out a 39mm!) The colour scheme is just too cool and love the forged carbon body!
It looks good but... As I've said before. My Tudor preference is the Black Bay M79230B-0008 41mm with the white hand set, and matt blue anodised aluminium Bezel insert for a little color. STILL has the retro signed crown with the Tudor rose, Domed sapphire crystal, and Rivet bracelet... A modern / retro look(LoL), the best of both worlds. I'm aware one is in Steel and the other is Titanium. I'm used to steel watches, and actually don't even notice the weight. Although I do like the M25707KN-0001 PELAGOS FXD with Titanium bezel Black carbon insert, Blue fabric strap. But again for the difference between the two, I'd stll go for my original Preference.
I have an MN'23 and love absolutely everything about it except the 120 click bezel. Wish it was a 60 click. I use the bi-direction frequently for second timezone time references, along with the count down for cooking. It's a unique watch, and there are so many straps to choose from it's crazy. I like mine on a Nick Mankey Design HookStrap in MN and Orange probably the best. I actually also like the OE rubber strap too. On my '23 the bezel is about half a mm off, not enough to bother me, but at it's first service I'll have them address it.
Hi, could you explain MN and orange? I cannot find a Mankey strap color called MN or midnight or similar. Which do you mean? And would that be with orange stitching or the actual orange strap?
Oohhh! Sweet 👌🏻! I own this one. And yes, it is a mighty tool watch. I love it, it is so light I actually don’t notice it, and very surprisingly- for me- it is one of my most complimented pieces 🤷🏼♂️
My only problem is that it’s 2mm too big. Everything else - the bead blasted titanium, the fixed lugs - those are positives to someone like me who likes military watches. I recently bought a very used Sinn 656 because I thought my satin-finished dial-polished 556 was too tarted up. Erika’s Originals even sells a Marine National inspired strap for the FXD. I’ve bought/sold too Black Bay 58s - if the watch was 40mm I wouldn’t bat an eye buying one, though I’d buy the US version with the uni-directional bezel because nobody else does bezel action like Tudor (except Rolex, of course).
Oooooh gotta agree..that P01 Tudor dial is properly noice...gawjuss.. The Bezel is way too busy for me on the littlest Pelagos though.. puts me off tbh.
It sits well on the wrist, because the „spring“ bars are stepped down closer to the wrist. This lowers the strap too and makes the whole case appear more wrist hugging.
I really like mine. It's probably my most worn watch. The movement doesn't feel that great to wind, though, and the bezel action was terrible when I first got it (its worn-in a bit now and does feel better). There's quite a noticeable difference between the quality of this and a Rolex diver but they're well over twice the price so that's to be expected 💁♀️
The indices aren’t framed.. except they sort of are! There’s a thin band of white metal/material around them which you can see faintly, right here in the macro shots. The P39 doesn’t have these and I find that the faint framing complements the framing of the handset nicely. Also the black dial has a very clicky 60 click elapsed time bezel rather than the blue dial’s 120 click count down bezel. I actually wish the black dial had the count down bezel, it’s cool and unusual touch.
I don’t notice the countdown that much (probably because it’s my first dive watch) but I do appreciate the bidirectional bezel because it’s handier to use, if you’re just timing random things like cooking 🧑🏼🍳
I love everything about the FXD... except the fixed lug design. Make this available on a nice tapering Ti bracelet and I'm ALL IN! I have a CWC fixed lug watch and it's a great piece, but it spends most of it's time in my watch box vs on my wrist. I just prefer a bracelet on a watch I suppose. :)
I'm all out of Tudors at the moment. sold them all to finally purchase a 2012 explorer 2 white dial and an omega seamaster 300 blue dial. please can you do a review on the new pelagos red bull carbon.
since getting my FXD MN my other watches just don't get as much wrist time anymore... I like it that much I'm considering getting the more normal black one too. However you said you'd take the FXD if you were a diver... black one yes... the blue MN version has a bezel that counts the wrong way and is bi-directional so isn't ISO certified
Love my FXD blue, and wearing it now. May not be for everyone, but definitely for me. In fact I traded in my BB 58 Blue as part of the transaction. Liked the FXD better as a sport diver, and I have another “dressy” diver with a much better bracelet that made the BB 58 unnecessary in the collection.
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR agreed, and more fool them. I was lucky enough to bag the FXD on its release last week and I didn’t even have to try it on. I just said ‘bring the card machine and wrap it up’ 🤣👊🏼
Your wife's statements about the watches are always hilarious. Of course it's dull, but I guess that's praise for its tool watch nature. If this had a bracelet option, I'd already own one. I think I'm holding out for a blue Pelagos 39. Maybe in a summer or September release this year? Tudor does like to put out a couple of random releases around those times. I believe September would be 2 years since the black P39 came out.
I’m in a real confusion between Tudor submariner, FXD and Black bay 58. I love the look of the sub best but am worried about hurting it with it being vintage. I love the whole design and ethos of the fxd - and it wears well - but it would be even better if smaller. The Black bay 58 should be the best of all worlds but I do miss some of the toolier aspects like block indices and crown guards! So currently have all three! Basically Tudor make a 39mm fxd thanks!
I wish more watch companies stop using box crystals or double dome crystals and go with flat crystals. Thin is in and most ppl do not like something that catches the shirt cuff or the random door jam that might scratch the crystal thus devaluing the watch for resale and such.
Definitely great for what it is or what it is supposed to be, but if I had the money for a Pelagos FXD, I would buy a Grand Seiko! Ha! Kidding not kidding. Actually I would buy several other Tudors before this one. But then again I don’t own one. 🤷🏻♂️. Thanks as always?
I tried this on at the AD when it first came out. It did not suit my wrist. Shame. I guess I was hoping for something more like the Submariner. I much prefer the original BB58.
Certainly, this is close to being the perfect watch for me. I love it. It's beautiful, the bidirectional bezel is a lifesaver in everyday life, and the sturdy integrated lugs on the case look bombproof. However, I'll never buy a Tudor. I don't like the name. Henry VIII was a despicable man for many reasons, starting with how he treated Catherine of Aragon, and "Tudor" constantly reminds me of him.
The fact it is not fully titanium (caseback is SS as per webpage specification) turn me off from this watch. It would be great if it fully titanium👍👍 No doubt this is a good watch, just more like problem with my personal preference of wanting it to be fully titanium as I tend to sweat alot.
"If I were ever to go diving and wanted a watch I could rely on for my life...." That bi-directional bezel will end up getting you killed, Russell. I'd miss your reviews, your wife wouldn't have a steady stream of watches to dunk on, a lot of folks would suffer. Don't do it! Choose the Black Bay! It doesn't have fixed lugs, but you can trust the bracelet. The bracelet has those unsightly rivets, and so surely it must be rugged and reliable. The ocean floor is littered with corpses and bi-directional bezels. Bi-directional goes one direction: toward Davy Jones' locker. Don't do it. No watch is worth a life, especially not one with a flat, boring crystal. That FXD is a looker, though, I admit. I'd want to wear it diving too. But I choose life.
Everything is excellent about it except I couldn’t be doing with the fixed spring bars - it’s too limiting in terms of strap choice. The blue BB58 looks nicer, is more versatile and for 99% of people serves the same purpose.
Bro i shit you not, I was just thinking Tudor should do an FXD with a green dial and a Brazilian flag colored NATO strap. I would buy it in a heartbeat!!

Watching this while wearing my black FXD. Best dive watch I’ve ever owned
Me too, and same feeling.

I have now got three watches that you have recommended, your videos are the best
tried both and went for the redbull racing edition. the dark tone makes it appear bit smaller and the red accents work fantastic. my coolest watch I guess

got myself the Tactical frog version of this. scratched my itch for this style and didn't break the bank.

This is definitely a winner for me. I love the newer all black version but I would not be offended with the blue one!
Thank you a MILLION times for pronouncing Pelagos correctly.🤟
Indeed. I learned the proper pronunciation from watching Tudors own commercials for the Pelagos.
I am still hopeful that you will review the standard blue 42 Pelagos. It is my daily driver.

Why is it a bidirectional bezel?
The Marine National use it for underwater navigation, not dive/oxygen time as they are close to the surface.
42/22 no date makes this my fav Tudor but not on a velcro fastening strap
