I met Alex Murdaugh briefly during the late nineties while working as a pyrotechnician. We shot the Fourth of July fireworks show for the town of Walterboro. Before the show Alex appeared out of no where and startled me because our launch area was cordoned off and no unauthorized persons were allowed to approach. He introduced himself as the solistitor and requested that we "slow the show down and make it last longer." He indicated that in years past the show seemed rushed and the towns people felt it was over too quickly. I told him I could do that as long as he understood this would keep the show from being synced with the soundtrack playing from loud speakers in the town square. He told me not to worry about that, he was the man in charge around there. We shot the show at about half pace and stretched a 15 minute display into 30 minutes. After the show he appeared again and thanked me and said the fireworks were much better than in years past. I remember shaking his hand and looking him in the eye and getting the unmistakable feeling he was somehow shady. My partner remarked that the tall red headed dude made him nervous. I had forgotten the whole incidence until I saw his picture on the news. After all these years my instincts that night were proved to be accurate. Whether it takes a week, a month or decades, people get what they deserve.

Wow that’s a interesting recall. Its a dark strange feeling when I look at him through a screen….its his eyes I cant explain it. Even his mothers caregiver called him awkward or something to that affect.
Did you feel the space around you change right before you realized he was near you?
After passing energy via handshake and looking him square in the eyes, Im sure the feeling you and your partner got from his wouldn’t be described as awkward. It would be darker than that.

Alex knew Paul had to go. He was becoming a liability about to unravel Alex’s complex web of financial crimes and lies. Alex also knew murdering their son would put his wife right on his tail. He could shrug off the investigation of his son and claim it was ‘vigilante justice’ ( like he wanted us to believe) but Maggie would have hounded investigators to find her sons killer and all roads would have led back to Alex. It’s so sad all around. How does it make you feel about the law enforcement agency in the state that SLED not only lied to the Grand Jury to get Alex indicted, saying they had evidence he did it that they did NOT have, but they also did such a terribly sloppy job of preserving the evidence at the scene of the crime, that if it's true that Alex didn't kill them, then two cold blooded murderers are loose somewhere in the state. I think Alex is a slime ball and deserves to be in prison for life for what he did in his financial crimes, but if he wasn't the one who murdered his beloved wife and son, then "all y'all" down there in the low country or anywhere in the state had better watch your backs! If law enforcement are allowed to lie to the Grand Jury, which is a serious federal crime, then none of us are safe from spurious "evidence" against us in court. This is a sincere question.

@@bethanywhite877 sorry for your loss. I've lost many people and tend to remember most things esp leading up to it. I think what I find most intriguing with Alex though is the acting. For example, he said on the stand he saw them both, touched them both, saw Paul's brain etc. Yet, in body cam footage, he is repeatedly asking if they're dead. I understand the denial to an extent BC I lost my 11 year old to covid 3 years ago, and I still have thoughts that he's being hidden etc, BUT, bc the border was closed I never actually saw his body, I have never questioned if someone is truly gone when I've seen them gone. So, that footage of Alex asking that, knowing that he saw what he did, is very odd to me, esp since he was a hunter and would understand that anatomically you can't revive anything that has traumatic brain damage... Prior to the footage he had called 911 and told them they were not alive and that he had checked them both, which then contradicts the questioning if they're really dead. It's a horrible case and the way Paul's head was injured sounds like something from a horror movie. Even if you caused a wound like that I can't imagine it not making you feel ill. I truly believe Alex is guilty but I don't think he had any clue the damage that would be done to Paul and I'm sure that image truly does haunt him. If Paul died first I fully understand how one would decide to switch weapons after seeing that carnage. i wish they would've asked more to clarify that night. Like "after you checked Paul and Maggie you had to have had blood on you, did you wash your hands at the kennels? Did you change your clothes like the videos suggest?" Etc. One crime scene person said he was covered in blood the next day. Obviously we didn't need this info for a verdict, but it would've been nice to be able to fill in the blanks a little more. Perhaps Alex will eventually day everything that happened and what his thought process was.

His son was a $30million dollar liability in his eyes. His wife became another liability because she had a heart and wanted to protect her son, even possibly accepting they would lose the comfort of their current life and have to start over ( housekeeper testified to it ). Really sad all around,

He said during the trial "she told me to leave". It was apparently in reference to how he ended up leaving the house and going to the kennels but the everything just clicked right then and there. She was leaving him, his life was falling apart.

@@Herewearenowentertainus yes precisely. So many podcasts have been questioning what his motive is but it seems so clear because of everything you just said.
I also wonder about Paul. Was it only the boat accident? Did he take out his brothers boyfriend to save face? Was he around when Gloria had an accident? Guy seemed a whole load of shadiness himself. What a family

Burden shifting. It is not the defendant’s responsibility to provide another suspect. It is the states burden of proof. Prior bad acts should never have been considered by the jury as proof of murder…it was for the limited purpose of motive.

Great video, Dr. G. I watched the trial for 6 weeks and have had a lot of different thoughts/emotions. I've been looking forward to your analysis because it always helps me see things more objectively, logically.
One thing that's notable on the inculpatory evidence is that after Alex seemingly looked at Paul's phone, he made several calls to the friend Paul had been talking to. It appears he saw an active conversation had been happening and was trying to find out what the friend knew.

With very few exceptions, his grammar and semantics are in the top 1% of RUclips creators. The young creators don't understand redundancy, verb conjugation, objective and subjective pronouns, prepositions, subjunctive mood, etc. They don't often use vocabulary of multiple syllables unless they are repeating a technical word, but "plethora" seems to have become a favorite across the true-crime community. It is so unfortunate that the dumbing-down of America has been so successful in destroying effective communication and the masses defy anyone who suggests a simple improvement/correction. Their response is a defensive attitude and attack on "grammar police" or "grammar Nazis."

You might want to watch the three part series which I THINK ran on Investigation ID and is still available on demand. Paul was a monster who killed a young girl with his drunken stupidity and arrogance and then tried to blame his cousin, may have committed or participated in another murder, and enjoyed killing small animals from an early age. He was likely a budding serial killer. Don't waste your sympathy on him.

    • @Cynbad333

@@natekeyes2297 sadly I agree but in Paul's defense, he never had a chance to be a productive person from early life. Spoiled, enabled and one excuse after another from mom, dad and Grandpa Handsome made both boys subject to invincibility. Buster is flying a bit low under the radar and being protected by MSM right now but it will all catch up with him soon. The jailhouse phone calls tell me all the Murdaughs are complicit with their crimes. Justice was served!
