The placement of the volume control is a huge problem. It prevents the user from placing the guitar in its case (and breaking the unit) without removing the pickup. It would have been MUCH BETTER if the volume control had been placed to the side of the pickup body.

It depends on the style of the case. If it is a hard case, what you described will probably happen.
