  • I thought it would be a good idea to showcase 3 different types of acoustic guitar pickup, in 3 price ranges from a sound hole pickup, under strings bridge pickup and a full preamp, all different levels of install difficulty as well.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases but it costs you nothing extra.
    KNA SG-2 Pickup: amzn.to/3g5J1dH
    KNA HP-1 Humbucker Pickup: amzn.to/2XjSGXh
    LR Baggs Element preamp: amzn.to/3jUhMDX
The KNA SG-2 is an under the strings pickup using a passive piezo system and is simple to install by loosening the strings, the KNA HP-1 pickup is a humbucker pickup for your acoustic guitar using neodymium magnets and installs using just a screwdriver and the LR Baggs element active system is a full under the saddle active piezo system with preamp and requires full install, not too difficult though.

I like the KNA HP-1 , nice and round. not britle or harsh treble in the sound

KNA SG-2 needs a saddle that's about 2.5 mm high (A little higher then 1/16") otherwise the strings can get screwed up intonation. It sounds great but will screw up your guitar if it raises the strings higher then the saddle.

Braggs seems the best all-around, but the KNA really catches the impact of the strings. Kind of an aggressive effect. Great demo!

Thanks for the in depth review. It’s a great service to discuss the installation process as that is often overlooked to possible dismay. The Baggs sounds great, really opens up that guitar. What was the first tune you were playing there? Cheers!

Thanks Brad! The first tune was just a series of embellished chords, nothing in particular :)

The Baggs seems a clear winner on tone.

Short answer: yeah! Long answer: hell yeah!

L.R. Baggs is definitely the winner, however those 3 were actually better than I had thought. You want that LR to shine, get one of their stomp boxes with IR, oof!

@@DerekPaulGuitar my freshman renegade has a piezo in the bridge and a p90 in the bridge postition paired with a Seymour Duncan single coil angled in between the p90 and the middle position so it is basically a humbucker and a half of single coil in bridge angling to the middle, I have her wired to go through 1 head into two cabs
