Just a lower production video so its easier/quicker/cheaper to make. They said they will still be making full production videos too so this isn't replacing that.

Yep. The m139L actually makes 470ish horsepower alone without hybridization in the c63. If we could get THAT alone in this car, or an A45s I would be a happy camper and wouldn't hesitate buying one even with Mercedes inflated pricing.
Just don't look into it's reliability or think about the turbo lag. Definitely don't look into owners forums, you'll find Mercedes pushing owners with problems away with a barge bowl even in warranty.

I drove a 35 when I was shopping for my last car and I loved it, but the pricing was just SO far out past the other guys, I just couldn't pull the trigger. It was a seriously cool car though. The 45 is insane for pricing. You could definitely just get a 1-2 year old M3 Comp for this price. Great video as always, guys!
Don't buy it, I had the CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake and that car was just shit! I sold it after less than two years because of all the issues it had and the build quality was awful. I now have a M340i Touring and wouldn't want to drive anything else.
@@rmr5184 which issues? my wife has the A class and it will be 4 years now in march with only 1 issue, the driver seat doesn't heat up anymore. in 20 years i can not even list 5 issues with my mercs, i can list you some 20 issues from owning a new BMW for only 6 months though.
@Doa744 interesting. I had so many issues from day 7 of owning the car that you wont even believe it: - Multibeam failure (literally 7 days after picking the car brand new from the dealer). I had to bring the car to the workshop 4 times until it was fixed as they started with software updates then replacing the multibeam ECU until finally replacing the light. - Left back shock absorber defect after a month. When I brought the car for the replacement of the multibeam I told them about a weird noise coming from the back and the car feeling strange on the back and they saw that it had a material defect. - Passenger airbag deactivated randomly and needed to be fixed. I don't remember what they did there though. - An incredible amount of cabin noises. They had to replace the door panel on the drivers side and two of the plastic clip bolts in the passenger side were broken and caused an annoying rattling. Generally the build quality of those A-series car's is terrible. - Gearbox failure. All of a sudden I wasn't able to put the car in reverse and a message popped up on the dash giving me a warning to not use the car as there was a critical gearbox issue. The car drove normally though so I brought it directly to the dealer and they fixed it with a software update. - Valve tightness issues. Appearently it's a common problem with the 35 and 45 models. The valves could not resist the pressure for which one day I was only able to drive up to 70km/h, again forcing me to bring it to the workshop. I found some infos in a forum but I've no idea if they changed something in the meantime. When the car arrived they seemed to know immediately what the issue was, so I suppose I wasn't the only one. - And now to the worst of all!!! The 4matic system stopped working during my winter vacation on the italian mountains while it was snowing! It only used the front wheeles and they couldn't fix it. They told me the car needed a complete new wiring harness. I waited for 4 months without receiving any update. They always told me it was due to the war in Ukraine that they where not getting the parts, so after 4 months I swapped to the M340i Touring which I now own since almost 3 years. I drove 79'000km with it and the car is just perfect and a 6 cylinder feels soooo much better than those 4 cylinders anyway.
@rmr5184 i always stay away from 1st year models but like my bmw it sounds like your cla was build on a lazy monday. Cant agree more with you about the cilinders! People who never drove more then 4 cilinders just dont understand how different it is even when power output on paper is equal
@@Doa744 absolutely! I don't think that every Mercedes is that bad I propably just had bad luck. The only thing which I don't like nowadays is the build quality inside. I found BMW's and Audi's to be way better than Merc's. They simply use to much cheap plastic. Even though they give it an incredible look it's still cheap. Amen on the engine. The power delivery, sound and smoothness of a 6-cylinder is just on another level. That's why everybody misses the C43 AMG and why BMW still sells so many 3-series in both M340i and M3 versions. Let's hope they continue to make them:)
The 4 cylinder is such a great fit for this car. Shame they tried to make it work for something it never belonged in with the 63's, I think the C43 is also still a better idea of a car than the new C63

I'd argue that James has more charisma than Thomas. Thomas sometimes comes across as a whiner in his videos when he doesn't like something whereas James will either not be a bitch about it and let it go or just criticize it as a reviewer, not as if the car committed a crime against him.

I am getting my CLA 45S in the next week or two and absolutely plan to track it! My local track in Utah for sure, but I'll likely road trip it to Washington to track at the Ridge, and possibly down to COTA later this year. I agree with you guys, I wish it was $15k cheaper too! hahaha :P
if you check almost every box you be close to 90k... just for the car..I did like 10mins of researching and I came up with cars that hit 90k ish... audi rs7 2021 or 2022 low miles 15 to 20k every option out.. 89-95k bmw m3 comp with xdrive 2024 low miles 4-7k every option out.. 88-93k bmw m5 comp 2021 or 2022 with every option mid miles 19-24k miles...88 to 93k Ct5 blackwing 2024 almost every option with like 2-5k miles..89-94k 2023 amg c63s with every option low miles 6 to 15k..78-84k

Usually 4 cylinders aren't known to have the most character, like a 5 or 6 cylinder does have for example but in the current AMG line-up this might be one of the most fun cars out there because it's fitting for what it is, whereas a 4 cylinder C63 is just criminal!
Different cars though. One is a compact "coupe" style sedan where the other is a full fledged performance mid-size sedan. A better comparison would be the CTV4 which I would much rather have the Benz.
I had a current gen C300 for about a year, and a regular CLA 250 as a loaner one day. The suspension was really firm, but livable. I get what Thomas said about the shape of the CLA. I’ve gone back and forth between liking and disliking it. Mostly disliking. It just…well…it just looks kind of odd. Also, poor Harrison. I feel bad he’s subjected to tight backseats with low roofs like that!
CLA45 AMG 2015 Owner, they're great cars, perfect introduction to AMG cars, my only complaints are because its the C class its going to be cheap on some parts, like sound deafening and cabin noise, but it definitely feels more AMG and Sporty than it does Mercedes or Luxury, also ours uses the 40/60 AWD system as well not the 4matic.
I know its not an exact comparison, but it woybe hard for me to buy this while you can buy a V8 Mustang for substantially less. Do the rear doors matter when the back seat is so small?

I had a A45 amg, the "hatchback" version of the car. i'm not sure if you get it in Canada/USA (I live in Sweden). I had it for 3 years and "only" lost about 3k us dollars when I sold it. So it holds value well.Should say that I bought mine used and not brand new. But it is a super fun car!
I had this car. Loved the look, the power and the nimbleness. But the stiff ride and deafening road noise drove me crazy as my daily. My friends said it was like riding on horses 😂.
I have the same exact thoughts with CLA45, it's there to fill in the gap, it's a unique hot hatch (4 door pillarless window coupe) *if it has manual though OMG*. I do think all new mercs (2020s & above) are just another mercs no matter what form or shape. They're just not as 'special' or as 'Mercedes' anymore. edit: the 'new' merc I forgot mentioning, GT63 4 door, is beautiful.
You guys should add a small window/box in your videos of the speedometer while you test these cars. Would be awesome to see the acceleration you guys talk about while driving. Love the cotent!

I had a 2014 CLA45 and it honestly was the most fun car I've driven. I've since upgraded to a 2019 C63S Coupe and yes it is more powerful and more capable, but it isn't as fun as the CLA.
A high-strung turbo-4 Mercedes with a dual-clutch that begs to be driven hard will cost you on purchase day, but even more with the inevitable service.
I came to this video directly from an hour long video about rally prepping an early Austin Healey 3000, totally different worlds. However, when all the whiz-bang gimcrackery of the Mercedes has aged out the Healey will still be going strong and still be more entertaining. The Healey has 250HP in a 2,200 pound package, the CLA weighs 4,000 pounds, has 9.5 pounds/HP, the Healey has 8.8 pounds/HP. Apples to oranges.
Seeing the interior of a CLA is so refreshing when you don't have a portrait-style 12-inch screen stuck on the center console and it looks different compared to most of the more expensive Mercedes Benz models. I say most because all of Merc's SUVs, aside from the GLC, have horizontal 12-inch screens and therefore look more pleasing to the eye in my opinion. The interior of the AMG GT63 on the other hand, doesn't feel as special as it could be because it pretty much shares the same general layout as a new C63 and most other AMG models.

This is my favourite new generation Mercedes. I love its interior unlike the other classes that have that annoying iPad or unlimited screens that can go wrong. Also this cla in matt grey or black is the right colour because it accentuates all those lines & makes you appreciate its shape much more. In its class it's my favourite, then the RS3. BMW design lately has been horrendous
I completely agree, pocket rockets are awesome, I love small, lightweight, affordable cars. But that's it's biggest downfall, it's not affordable. Small cars tend to be affordable. It's such a shame that this isn't because if it was, this would be one of the very best cars out there. Still, this is more fun than the new C63, so maybe if you want an affordable upgrade to the C63, this is the way.
I used to have one back in 2021 while i was working for Benz and i loved it i was comparing it with a F80 M3 and after driving both this was worth it more for me ( i got a demo with employee discount) also if you do a stage 2 on this thing it becomes so much quicker! I miss it great little car.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the car, but as I expected and what the Throttle House guys mention is that overall the RS3 and M2 are better choices. Would suggest you test drive all three cars to see which one you like most :)
@@CrackHead2024 well for this price point you can get full-on track weapons like the RS3 and M2 (even base M3).. It's just another class. the RS and ''M'' lines are unique lineups in their respective manufacturers, generally with more quality and tech than the regular lineup. The CLA 45 is basically a CLA with a big engine. The M2 is a bespoke M car on all points and same for RS we are talking about chassis, braking, cabin specs, engine, transmisison, cooling (Major difference in cooling actually), ''track-ready'' features and etc... CLA is a very good car but it's not worth the same amount of R&D that went into an M3,M2 or RS3 for every other aspect than drivetrain. BUT if you don't even consider tracking the car and you want the best daily driver possible in that class with enough power and sporty features to have a blast on backroads... I Guess I would actually buy a CLA45s over my G87 M2 lol...

I'm pretty sure you can buy an A45s in Canada, but not the states. I was looking at one to import from Canada to Washington. It wouldn't be that hard.

Usually 4 cylinders aren't known to have the most character, like a 5 or 6 cylinder does have for example but in the current AMG line-up this might be one of the most fun cars out there because it's fitting for what it is, whereas a 4 cylinder C63 is just criminal!

For the price of a fully maxed out 2025 AMG CLA, you can get a base model CT5 V Blackwing with a six speed manual. I know which one I’d go for 😆😆
Different cars though. One is a compact "coupe" style sedan where the other is a full fledged performance mid-size sedan. A better comparison would be the CTV4 which I would much rather have the Benz.

I had a current gen C300 for about a year, and a regular CLA 250 as a loaner one day. The suspension was really firm, but livable.
I get what Thomas said about the shape of the CLA. I’ve gone back and forth between liking and disliking it. Mostly disliking. It just…well…it just looks kind of odd.
Also, poor Harrison. I feel bad he’s subjected to tight backseats with low roofs like that!

CLA45 AMG 2015 Owner, they're great cars, perfect introduction to AMG cars, my only complaints are because its the C class its going to be cheap on some parts, like sound deafening and cabin noise, but it definitely feels more AMG and Sporty than it does Mercedes or Luxury, also ours uses the 40/60 AWD system as well not the 4matic.
I know its not an exact comparison, but it woybe hard for me to buy this while you can buy a V8 Mustang for substantially less. Do the rear doors matter when the back seat is so small?

I had a A45 amg, the "hatchback" version of the car. i'm not sure if you get it in Canada/USA (I live in Sweden). I had it for 3 years and "only" lost about 3k us dollars when I sold it. So it holds value well.Should say that I bought mine used and not brand new. But it is a super fun car!

I had this car. Loved the look, the power and the nimbleness. But the stiff ride and deafening road noise drove me crazy as my daily. My friends said it was like riding on horses 😂.

I have the same exact thoughts with CLA45, it's there to fill in the gap, it's a unique hot hatch (4 door pillarless window coupe) *if it has manual though OMG*. I do think all new mercs (2020s & above) are just another mercs no matter what form or shape. They're just not as 'special' or as 'Mercedes' anymore.
edit: the 'new' merc I forgot mentioning, GT63 4 door, is beautiful.
Also, the A-Class AMG's aren't in many games either... CLA and CLS...

I had a 2014 CLA45 and it honestly was the most fun car I've driven. I've since upgraded to a 2019 C63S Coupe and yes it is more powerful and more capable, but it isn't as fun as the CLA.
A high-strung turbo-4 Mercedes with a dual-clutch that begs to be driven hard will cost you on purchase day, but even more with the inevitable service.
The 45 AMGs are actually decently reliable for some reason.

I came to this video directly from an hour long video about rally prepping an early Austin Healey 3000, totally different worlds. However, when all the whiz-bang gimcrackery of the Mercedes has aged out the Healey will still be going strong and still be more entertaining. The Healey has 250HP in a 2,200 pound package, the CLA weighs 4,000 pounds, has 9.5 pounds/HP, the Healey has 8.8 pounds/HP. Apples to oranges.

Seeing the interior of a CLA is so refreshing when you don't have a portrait-style 12-inch screen stuck on the center console and it looks different compared to most of the more expensive Mercedes Benz models. I say most because all of Merc's SUVs, aside from the GLC, have horizontal 12-inch screens and therefore look more pleasing to the eye in my opinion. The interior of the AMG GT63 on the other hand, doesn't feel as special as it could be because it pretty much shares the same general layout as a new C63 and most other AMG models.

This is my favourite new generation Mercedes. I love its interior unlike the other classes that have that annoying iPad or unlimited screens that can go wrong. Also this cla in matt grey or black is the right colour because it accentuates all those lines & makes you appreciate its shape much more. In its class it's my favourite, then the RS3. BMW design lately has been horrendous

I completely agree, pocket rockets are awesome, I love small, lightweight, affordable cars. But that's it's biggest downfall, it's not affordable. Small cars tend to be affordable. It's such a shame that this isn't because if it was, this would be one of the very best cars out there.
Still, this is more fun than the new C63, so maybe if you want an affordable upgrade to the C63, this is the way.

I used to have one back in 2021 while i was working for Benz and i loved it i was comparing it with a F80 M3 and after driving both this was worth it more for me ( i got a demo with employee discount) also if you do a stage 2 on this thing it becomes so much quicker! I miss it great little car.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the car, but as I expected and what the Throttle House guys mention is that overall the RS3 and M2 are better choices.
Would suggest you test drive all three cars to see which one you like most :)
@@CrackHead2024 well for this price point you can get full-on track weapons like the RS3 and M2 (even base M3).. It's just another class. the RS and ''M'' lines are unique lineups in their respective manufacturers, generally with more quality and tech than the regular lineup. The CLA 45 is basically a CLA with a big engine. The M2 is a bespoke M car on all points and same for RS
we are talking about chassis, braking, cabin specs, engine, transmisison, cooling (Major difference in cooling actually), ''track-ready'' features and etc...
CLA is a very good car but it's not worth the same amount of R&D that went into an M3,M2 or RS3 for every other aspect than drivetrain.
BUT
if you don't even consider tracking the car and you want the best daily driver possible in that class with enough power and sporty features to have a blast on backroads... I Guess I would actually buy a CLA45s over my G87 M2 lol...

It is not the same engine. The horsepower and torque is a lot more in the C63 and it does 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. SMH LOL
