Hi everyone, interested to know whether you love or hate your 3 wood?
I hate my 3 wood but this will change it 😂 Great video
@@BryanGonzales-rj4sf hope this changes it!
Hate it! But will try to change that after these tips.
I don’t have one - I only have hybrids. I need to get a wood
@@AngieMcG definitely do!
One of the MOST helpful videos on my weakest shot!
Glad it helped
I just recently came across your site and watched the video you have for the 3 wood, I have been struggling with it for a while and could not figure out what I was doing wrong. After watching your video and seeing my mistakes I am now crushing my 3 wood . I am hitting it long (over 200 yards) and straight, pretty good for a 70 year old guy, thank you for putting out great easy to understand videos. Will definitly watch your video on How To Hit A Hybrid, a club I have been struggling to hit.
Sounds like you’re making great progress! Please do check it out
Excellent explanation and demonstration Giles on effectively hitting the 3 wood. For years, I used the three wood a lot on long par 3's, 4's and 5's. I live in Southern California, and a few years ago, a drought hit and our fairways started drying up. Because the 3 wood needs a fairly "cushiony" lie and we didn't have those anymore, I quit using the 3 wood. Now, the grasses are growing back and the fairways are beginning to show some cushion and maybe I will again start using the 3 wood again. I do hit my 5 wood using the same suggestions that you presented for hitting the 3 wood. Good Job As Always Giles!! I always enjoy and learn from your input!
Thank you! Great to hear you enjoyed the video & I hope this helps your 3 wood & 5 wood
Amazing video as always! I’ve struggled with 3 wood but this video will help massively!
Thank you Harry! Glad you enjoyed it!
I've had a 3 wood in my bag for decades - in fact, I learned to use that before I even owned a driver. Personally, I'm not too keen on teeing it up for a 3 wood but I will occasionally. I think it's paramount to practice and learn, to hit the ball off the deck initially until it's ingrained - you will never fear hitting off the fairway again if you do.
Of course it’s one of those where it’s personal preference to tee it up. Always start with hitting it off the ground yes
I always used to position based on legs, but your suggestion of positioning ball based on shoulders makes so much more sense. I will start practicing with that. Seems like that is universally applicable for all clubs, but more obvious for irons as center of legs will be center of shoulders so does not matter as much. Thanks for that perspective.
Thank you & I hope this helps! I would always use upper body personally
Super coaching. Thanks Giles.
Thank you!
The explanation was very logical & practical. Would try to follow the advise tomorrow on the Course !!
Good luck!
Nice video. My 3-wood and I have a love/hate relationship 🤪
I think most people do 😂
Super helpful! Thank you ⛳️
Glad I could help 😊
Thanks for the video. Hate my 3 wood.
Working on having a consistency to it now.
Hope this helps!
Love mine & apply your exact technique - great vid
Thank you!
Love the 3 wood and love the content you upload really have help loads with my game thank you very much 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Amazing! Thank you & great to hear my content is helping you!
Thanks Giles. This is very clear and comprehensive. I am sure I am like a lot of golfers going through periods when 3 wood is easy and then after a few mis-hits confidence is lost. It is very helpful to be reminded of the fundamentals.:
Thank you & you’re 100% right
I gave up trying to hit a 3 wood for 2-3 years, but I started using it again last year. Sometimes great, sometimes not, depending on the day. Lots of great info in this video. I think I have the ball too far forward so I'm going to try lining it up off my left ear as you suggested.
I hope this helps and make you more consistent with your 3 wood!
Great instruction!
Glad it was helpful!
I have a 3 and a 5+ and love them both.
Amazing!
Just wanna say thank you. Watched this video before my round and killed it with the 3 wood. 👍
That’s amazing! Glad this video helped!
I have a 30 year ol callaway 2 wood hawkeye, and its my go to club, this will help even more.I also have a cobra bafler,5 years old now,not as good as the 2 wood.
When you love a club you never want to let it go!
love 3 wood especially from fairway
Great club to love!
Excellent video. I finally managed to hit properly my 5 and 7 woods thanks to you.
Can you please do a video on how to hit a 5 Iron, compared to a 7 Iron ?
Believe it or not it’s exactly the same
Love it
Thank you
Very good
Thank you!
Thanks for the videos...i have started playing my HB wood and gaining distance. I have a HB and FW wood, not sure which one is a 3 wood or 5 wood.
By HB do you mean hybrid
I just put my 3 wood back in my bag. I recently bought a 5 wood which I love, but I have been struggling with my driver and I needed some extra distance so the 3 wood is back. I have been using it more to tee off with, I have always struggled in the fairway with it. Im looking forward to trying your advice as I know my setup is not correct. Thanks for the tips..
Hope this helps and great to hear you’re loving the 5 wood
I have 3 & 5. Roughly same distance. Only use 3 wood in fairway or tee. I assume all principles are same with 5W??
Exactly the same yes
3 wood is a crucial weapon to lower scores. Either to keep tight fairways or get on with two on par 5's. I use a 4 wood to help me launch easier, but now i think i need the extra 10-15 yards from my wood. Its 20 years old and my brand new 3 hybrid is going similar distance.
Sounds like you need an upgrade! Will make a huge difference
@@Gilesgillgolfjust picked up a new cobra radspeed 3 wood on sale. Crushing it. Next round, no driver!!! My driver ob has been costing me a few strokes a round.
@@robjung2018 be sure to check out my driver videos! But great to hear the 3 wood sounds solid
Hate 3 wood have trouble squaring the club face.
10:45
Be sure to make sure you have the right shaft and then remember to not try and have an excessive amount of shaft lean
Is that ball position the same for every club?
No. Check out my ball position video 👍🏻
No. Check out my ball position video 👍🏻
65 and learning things i was ignorant of all these years....Btw where are you located ?
Always keep learning is the key! Bletchingly England
Don’t have one. I hit 4 iron 235 so I can get away with driver 4 iron on par 5s. I’ll hit 4 iron frequently off the tee box as well for more narrow par 4s
Fair enough
Not to say I don’t want to have one and hot or well. So, I’d like to learn more about
I struggle so much with this club!
Hope this video helps!
Just a grammatical moment: At 5:13 to 7:35,
correct swim thought to swing thought. Not a crisis just proofreading.
I don’t write the captions, that’s done by RUclips
It depends on how I’m swinging that day
I feel that!
He ia talking so fast. I disagree with one thing i go slow.slow.slow then explode at the end. I call it lag lag lag i lag it as long as i can tben explode at the end definitely hit down and getnit to compress off the ground
That’s what we class as a feel. Peak hand speed happens around left arm parallel in downswing so slow slow slow will hurt your swing
@Gilesgillgolf I'll definitely work on these drills. I'm 51 and about 255 lbs. In my profile pic I was about 42 and about 225 it was definitely easier to swing then. I never could hit a 3 wood until I did 2 things different. One was to stop trying to hit up on the ball to help it get in the air. I changed my whole concept I focused on swinging down on the ball and to compress the ball off the ground almost like I was pinching the ball. Another thing I did was I changed my grip from an interlock grip to a vardon or an overlap grip. I feel like it freed up my wrist so I would lag more and release down through the ball. I'm not kidding I used to hit my driver on a par 5 and my second shot was 7 iron I could hit it about 195 (they were +2 lofts) it was a better option than hitting a 3 wood and hitting a poor warm burner that never got in the air and rolled about 100 yards if lucky. I always thought it was 3 shots to green anyway on a par 5 but as my game improved and my drives were consistently 250-275 (about 50% of the time) then 275-295 30% of the time and below 250 15% and above 295 5 % of the time. So basically I was almost always about 275 on my drive I realized that 225 yard shot would hit me to the green in 2 so I would use my 3 wood and had great success especially since I was hitting down on it it produced backspin for great results when it did land on the green. I will have to admit usually now ill use a hybrid from as close as 190 if I'm in a heavy rough I found the head males it through the thick stuff and can still reach the green but the hybrid is also good up to about 225 that the cut-off at 225 I might use my hybrid or my 3 wood depending on the lie. One of the par 5s at my local corse is notorious for having a horrible downhill lie on your 2nd shot if your ball gets hung up in some trees if you don't hit a power fade so if thst happens it because you hit some trees and your looking at about 250 to 270 out I will almost always use my hybrid with the ball a good 4 or 5 inches below my feet. That's another thing guys got to know what situations may call for an alternative club selection. Thanks for the drills
Dude, show the ball in flight!!!
Firstly when I filmed that I didn’t have the software to do it. I don’t have editors and I do everything myself. Secondly have some manners & say thank you. DUDE.
Hate
Hope this helps you love it
