Jeez... that ending, though. I just get chills from the friggin' audience response, let alone the music and visuals. :D Definitely deserved Fan Favorite.
Kids, would you quit talking trash about other kids' high school drumlines? It's that age-old insecurity thing, I guess. You can't just sit back and watch a show and enjoy it. This may be my new favorite HS drumline show, and I've watched (and written and coached) many. Good stuff, top to bottom. My high school used to have one of the best drumlines around, but I have no problem admiring skill when I see it. Don't sit there and point out what wasn't clean unless you've never played an out-of-time note in your life. Don't criticize the writing without posting a sample of your own (superior) percussion writing. Well done, Father Ryan! I can't imagine how many man-hours that took to put together.
besides Dartmouth hs 2014, this is my favorite Indoor Percussion. I like how they understand the whole VISUAL factor of the show, rather than those that only care about the music, and end up having a boring show and the audience falls asleep to.....but THIS is the kind of sick as frik stuff that people want to see !
Who's watching in 2018? Remember being there for this show and competing against them w/ JOHS my Freshman Year. This video honestly doesn't give justice to how freaking loud it was when they went all out at the same time sounding super clean.
One of the most creative show concepts I have ever seen! Lots of tricks to keep the audience entertained, props that worked well, and a really cool ending! However, I'm not exactly in love with the writing. A lot of it in both pit and battery seemed pretty easy... Nonetheless, a great show from start to finish! They know how to perform!
What in the world.....this is just awesome no matter how you look at it. To get kids in highschool to pull this off is a testiment to great instruction and very passionate childern. Well done!
Kudos to you guys for an awesome concept and executing it so well! The uniforms and stunts are great but the technique is what puts it up there for me. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with next!
Definitely not the best. They are judged based on more than the show concept. Music City Mystique went after these guys and their music itself was more professionally delivered and deserved a higher score.
Crazy clean for a high school! I imagine kids move to the area to keep the talent going, I know the kids at my high school couldn’t play a simple cadence clean lol
Wow....great concept, very entertaining, I really enjoyed the performance from beginning to end, especially the end! I don't pay much attention to the negative comments, and I hope the kids who performed didn't either....the audience reaction came from what they did, not from somebody typing on a computer. From a Long time DCI Fan and alum, Father Ryan, I am Impressed! good luck in your next competitive season.
Okay, sure, Father Ryan may be a Catholic, private school, but that doesn't mean they have endless amounts of money. If anyone makes competitions about money, it's Tarpon Springs. Those people are just bathing in the dough. Need proof? umm...watch their show from 2014. So many awesome props you won't be able to keep track of them all.
actually, the arts programs at Father Ryan don't get much recognition or money. We had to fundraise just to not have to buy our own costumes from goodwill for the theater. The stages/props are mostly made by parent volunteers for the band, and in fact the bad room is so small and cramped, that they have to practice on the football field or parking lot to have enough room to even be instructed
+Grace Borum oh bummer you mean they have the chance to be in a totally dry listening environment all season? Anybody could get clean playing outside all year. #michigandrumshandicap
@@lancelott9171 2000 for a HS is insane. No wonder you guys have a great band program, my school often competes with yours and you guys get first in everything 😂
Epic show! Even though they used metronomes with earpieces, you can see them in the video, especially hanging down from the snare's helmet at 6:20 or so haha. But still, whether or not they used mets doesn't change how badass their show was!
Kyle Reid. Just a guy I worked with that always made that movie preview voice in the office. We recorded it in a stairwell and just cleaned up the audio.
ok its an overall spectacular show, but me being in a high school indoor percussion group myself, i have only one question/complaint... WHERE'S THE CYMBALS!:(
Cutie_Pewtie_Ashie Personally, i think cymbals are a wasted drill spot for a sound that be produced from the pit. I do see why you like them though but a lot of instructors don't sadly
Sara Hollenbeck we made them. Each one has to be custom to the player. Pretty easy design. Wood Circle top solid. Wood Circle bottom donut. Caster wheels and height via metal piping. They had footrests that could take the weight of them standing. There was a "notch" per say that would fit in between their back and harness. It took on the weight when going upside down. Bungys held the drum in place. Just reverse engineer it off the vid. Not very complex. Or you can take a look at SCV that took it and made it better.
Hunter Alexander we just called them pods. I can't remember the sizes at the moment. Provided a little lowered texture. We had them tuned low for impact. Nothing like the sounds of the tenors. Think more like drumset toms.
Anyone happen to know how they made those large, 'hamster wheel like', props? Looking to do something similar for an indoor show but a little bit bigger.
didn't have enough people, then 2015 came, they did one, 2016 came and they did stand still, 2017 didn't have enough people, 2018 was stand still, 2019 is right here: ruclips.net/video/5tu81rKtvN8/видео.html
I love the "show" of the show, it's crazy inventive and well performed, but tbh 90% of the music isn't that much harder than warmups I played all throughout high school. I'd rather see mad chops and section breaks that are less boring, which not everyone can do without significant years of practice, rather than simple tricks arguable anyone could do with some short term practice. not to bash the show, I just don't think it should have made it to where it did in competition standings.
Boring art is still boring though. I'd prefer both, you're right, that's why there's judging categories for G.E. and whatnot, I just wish people would stop *sacrificing the music* for random tricks, not cut the tricks and the other story elements completely or anything. I still love it, and I still think it's crazy inventive, very well done.
Definitely a cool show concept and great execution on the "stunts". The difficulty of the music for the line and pit weren't too hard and at times were very dirty, especially for going all the way to championships. And personally, I think the tenors need a better writer, because that was weak. Still though, it's great to see high school groups getting innovative and putting more into a show, and also getting a name for themselves!
I'm sure the visual judge shat his pants after that.
Drumline: “Bet i won’t throw my drums and sticks” “Bet i won’t jump off this stage”
This is the coolest visual shit I've seen that was performed by a high-school!! 😵

Dartmouth 2014 is fantastic! Thanks for the compliment.
Bingo. At the end of the day, shows are supposed to be entertaining
Agree with you completely on this. Have just gone back and forth watching Dartmouth 2014 and this show. Been fun hearing these shows again
One does not simply throw their snare over the baseline... You can toss the sticks but not snares...
Talk to Matrix about that shit.
+TSFLYER4 so many cracked shells...
wow, that meme...
Well the show name says it all
The crowd is so loud at the end that you can't hear the ensemble lol. Love the show, these kids are great!
You should hear the crowds reaction to the Bluecoats getting 2nd this year.
TSFLYER4 i was there did you hear the crowed when the blue devils got called
