for those of you who havent noticed, theres a motif thats repeated throughout the show (triplet buzz followed by quarter note triplet flams) but the vis performers always interrupt whoever plays it (once before the first snare break, and twice during the call & response section) until the closer snare break when he stomps and stops them from interrupting, thats when they finally "speak" and play that monster of a snare break. i think the folding of the tarp was them (the vis team) trying to contain the battery but they continued marching, until they fold the fabric over them. thats my interpretation, unsure if its accurate but yeah. best wgi show ever
judges need to be fired over this. Judge Howarth has them 8th in music comp and 6th in performance... its more than ridiculous and he should never judge again, they were arguably cleaner than pulse which is almost impossible, and the book was wayyy more complex. Not putting any group down, they were all amazing, but this is absurd
Giff Howarth has been known to do that in the last decade or so. He has a very biased opinion of groups who try to "set new standards" over groups who have a good show and play it very very well. At the same time, X has music arranged that is known to many outside of the marching world... in some critiques I've been in where he was judging, he admitted he is not a fan. Yes, all groups did very well, but X should've placed MUCH higher. It is what it is now.
Went more through his judging that night and wtf is he thinking for some of those? Like Monarch 3rd, BC 7th, Infinity 2nd, and I am a Pulse fan and can say that he wayyy underscored Rhythm X. Legit the only thing that looks right is Pulse in 1st.
@@josephsimons4184 all props to Pulse they're so clean and their shows are written so well. Personally, i just think u have to give credit to X for the level of book, and those other groups like monarch and united were playing their asses off, its just not clean enough to compete imo. idk what he was looking for tbh. Broken cities book was insanely hard too, but they didint play as clean as they could have. IDC who wins as long as its consistent and well deserved. u have to push boundaries though i get it
Chris - the Vibe/Glock player techs for my ensemble, and i couldn’t be more proud of how insane this show was. he put in hella hours with my PSA group (Beavercreek) and even more to make sure he was incredible in this show.
I got to see your guys' finals run and it was so fun to see the crowd cheer when you guys flew off the floor to avoid a timing penalty. A super fun performance too you all should be proud of! Had front-row seats on the arena floor lol.
Personally, I would have loved rhythm x to win this year, rcc was just stupid, but pulses show this year just checked off all of the boxes, making it the more realistic, but not necessarily ideal winner in my opinion.
I personally liked RCCs show a bit better and but I can totally see what you're saying. The visuals especially in this show are amazing. Also the pit sound they have is immaculate. Personally I think RCC beat them in GE and ME mostly for an easier to read show and a creative use of set and sound with the stairs and chairs which led them to taking 2nd. All around great stuff tho we really cant be complaining too much over subjective art.
I’d highly recommend listening to the source material Don’t Speak by No Doubt then if you already haven’t! That section was taken directly from the song lol
Oh my goodness. I didnt get to catch them in season this year, but HOW did this show NOT win this year!?!? Rhythm X finally does something different than theyve done the past few years and they finish 3rd? The concept of this show is immaculate. It tells a atory without a single word being spoken. Yeah, there was some dirt. Noticed a few cymbal drops in the beginning and the timing of the first snare solo seemed a bit early to me, but other than that the execution on this was great!
rhythm x is undeniably a high performance/experienced group. the music composition was insane and a tough match for pulse. but the judges did not judge them accordingly. this kinda reminds me of rcc15 and yet scored below what shouldve been. 8th in music comp and 6th in performance?! thats insane. their music is so hard and such a demanding show and performed with so much passion and effortless. lousy judges too focused on numbers rather than the big picture, the crowd says it all
Our show was about two sets of characters who are trying everything they can to speak and have their voice heard. But they keep getting restrained by each other. It’s why if you notice closely, some of us are mouthing words trying to speak but can’t make a sound. It’s why the visual ensemble is constantly at odds with the battery. It’s also why the tarp gets folded to show that the visual ensemble who were once indistinguishable from the tarp become the brightest and loudest character.

That snare break at 6:33 is one of the best I've ever seen... All 8 of 'em are Eating. It. Up. Insanely impressive - WOW.
My favorite X snareline. Dudes played with so much authority, apart from playing clean. 2nd snare break definitely has to be my favorite as well.
If I could take a Time Machine there I would. Wow.

There is nobody cleaner than pulse, but I agree that x should’ve won
This was one of the most musical indoor shows I've seen in a while, wonderful show musically & visually. Should've won.

Do any of the members of WGI perform in DCI? I've heard of WGI over the years but never bothered to look up what it was, and I missed out on a lot.
I’d say a good number of indoor members march in corps over the summer. There are many instructors who do both as well.
In groups at this level almost all of the members do WGI. This group has a lot of Cavaliers members due to staff overlap between the two groups.
Does anyone have the sheet music for the piano part at the very beginning
What song were they playing at 7:10 ??
Don't Speak - No Doubt
a lot of the music is inspired by Don't Speak

Why is no one talking about how smooth that guitar solo was?
Why don't you talk about it?
Because WGI isn't about guitar solos.
