truly remarkable video. Been watching your videos and absolutely loving them. No fancy edits just pure value. Would love to hear your take using Serif vs Sans in body text/branding in 2024. As more and more company moving towards Sans for the modern look.
I think that focusing on the ads and not the products really hinders the ability to talk about the designs here. Most of Apples success is the visual language of their products, the ads are just offspring of that. On top of that Apples design has been on a steady decline, their products are designed to be hard to repair, planned obsolescence is at the focus of their strategy with new iPhones not really improving on the previous designs. It's a shame that you titled the video as you did but just focused on the least important part of the machine, and skipped on how the new practices inspire other companies to design for profit, and not for the user.
I see your point, but this channel's focus is on graphic design, not product design. The logo and marketing is what this video discusses and it's more about their legacy in that area, rather than the products they make.
Hey man, I’ve been binging your videos this week since I’m trying to practice on more international type posters. I was wondering if you could make a video breaking down how to setup grids and guides better? And how to adjust them for different layouts. As someone who’s really into modular grids I just have trouble with properly aligning my subjects on the art board. Aswell as if I should be using pixels or inches for my posters 😂
the initial logo may show you that apple design is first of all conceptual, it shows why it is an apple. it's just one of a very few successful conceptual designs when whatever you're making is that new you have to make sure it is usable and understandable. that's where 'minimalistic' comes of only as a consequence of making new things clear. look at any 'less is more' products today, do they become that succesful just bc they are 'minimal'? that's why there are no steve jobs from design schools. doing minimal was always a means for something else, not the goal. that's why every succefull artist who is called 'minimal' by the media rejects the notion. look at john pawson or anyone from 'contemporary art' field
Umm as much i appreciate your video. The whole advertisement and marketing campaigns and brand image is not that comes internally, that's all done by creative agencies and not apple. They might have a say in the end which works for them more, but that's not technically their own ideas on display
I see your point, but the agency's job is to visually communicate Apple's message. There is clear teamwork in all of the campaigns and they still have final say over what goes out. This is true for any business, but Apple strives to put out the best possible message, accompanied by premium design practices.
Apple, and other large companies send these ad agencies extensive brand guidelines that has what they can and can’t with their branding. I’ve had the opportunity to view many of them while working at an ad agency. Sometimes they are over 30 pages long lol
Is it just me, or doesn’t the Apple logo look like somebody sitting, in profile, to the the right with his hands on a keyboard and a fluorescent light fixture above him?
Dont you think the Apple creativity train is now sledging along in auto-pilot mode rather than someone like Jobs driving it with intention? Even their recent disastrous iPad campaign that showed crushing instruments of creativity, stands to show us they are slipping.
I still think the design portion of what they do is amazing, but creativity is definitely waning. Jobs certainly had an enormous impact. Cook is still bringing innovation, but Jobs was a once in a lifetime leader and we'll never see anything like it again.
A cycle's work is only to ride a rider ! We can't upgrade it more than what its designed for... Same goes for everything ! And in terms of smartphone - they have reached a point where bringing upgrades in them isn't valid ! Upgrade means big upgrades ! And coming towards apple - i agree with them - they bring small small but impactful changes! Though it be minor improvements in cameras ! And tbh there's no need for a smartphone to get into rocket science ! Moreover, you can see how apple put out vision pro ! Can you just imagine how hard it would have been to make a device which seamlessly understands through our eyes !
@@TheDesignSmith I just looked it up again, they don't include them with the new iPads, still 1 sticker inside the iPhone 15 box. they don't want to include them because its plastic, and environment stuff. so unless they will do paper stickers or something they'll remove them from all products.
It's because I used AI to reformat all the stuff I had written. Originally, it was all over the place. It was my first video essay and I wanted it to be structured similarly to a documentary. I did a recut version afterward that trims the fat and is much more concise, but that one didn't take off like the original one.
I love Apple. I don’t care how expensive it is. I’m happy to be in a position where I consume and create from an Apple product everyday.
Same! It's been 16 years since I switched to Mac and I'll never go back 😎

Apple and Nike have the best logos at the moment.
Agreed! Both visually pleasing and applicable in thousands of ways. I'm also a huge fan of Coca-Cola's branding 😎

incredible analysis 👏🏻
Thank you! 😎

How Apple destroyed creativity and force everyone to be boring actually
Get out of my head! That was my original title 😎
The most valuable Apple inspiration in design industry is greedy bosses asking for sketchy deadlines and overworking
"Sketchy deadlines and overworking" That's the entire design industry, my friend 😎

*included stickers (at least for iPhones)
I got one with the MacBook Pro I got last year. Have they really stopped with the stickers?
@@TheDesignSmith I just looked it up again, they don't include them with the new iPads, still 1 sticker inside the iPhone 15 box.

Basically 😉 Of course, everyone copies someone.
