I’ve been a serious amateur photographer since my teens, but to fully understand and remember the menus on my recently acquired CL was daunting to say the least. I had been looking online for a CL user handbook but found nothing so this video was very helpful. This camera is not for inexperienced photographers. Now that I have some basic understanding the trick is to use the camera as much as possible-practice makes perfect or close to it. Thanks for making this video and make more if possible.
Well please do. I would really appreciate some online tuition on using functions on the CL to improve images & camera use. The UK Leica lessons seem to be mostly about composition. Yours is the most helpful I have found.
Thanks for the info, but after settings your preferences, are they automaticaly saved? And what happens when you remove your battery for charging, when you out it back on will you have do set your preferences again ?
All menu adjustments stay permanently set until you change them. You can also save different sets of menu options using the User Profiles on Page Three of the menus.
I just bought 60mm Leica Macro lens for CL. What would be the best setting to shot macro for Flower or other small object. Appreciate your help. Thanks.
Thank you Nick. Using my CL and Summicron 90mm 1.4 M Lens, I cannot get the Clipping warning to show when shooting? On my SL2 and the same lens the Clipping warning works fine? Have you come across this?
In the menu set Capture Assistant / Clipping to ON. Then when you are in Aperture Priority or Manual and apply exposure compensation to 'overexpose', the clipping flashing will show. Should work on any lens. If you are in Manual make sure Exposure Preview is set to PASM not PAS.
@@LeicaCameraAustralia Thank you, I have already applied the settings that you specif. Just to confirm, the clipping warning show when viewing the image, but not when shooting? My SL2 shows clipping warnings when viewing and shooting.
Are the screens showing full info? Click the button in the centre of the arrow buttons on the back to toggle it on and off. The clipping warning shows up just fine in the viewfinder on my CL.
@@LeicaCameraAustralia Thank you for checking with your CL I have all four Capture Assistants set to On and in Preview Mode the Histogram and Clipping warnings appear, but in Recording Mode only the Histogram, Grid Lines and Horizon are shown [ie not Clipping warnings]. If Clipping shows up on your CL in Recording mode then my CL must be faulty?
@@LeicaCameraAustralia With all capture assistants "On", and in Recording/Picture mode clicking the centre button only toggles between Blank/No info or Histogram, Grid and Horizon?
Superb video. "Make the camera work for you, not against you". This video helps the user do that. Thanks Nick.
Glad it was helpful!
I have had my CL for some time now and these are the settings I have set up. Turning off touch AF is the best advice for people with noses!

Thank you very much for taking the time to make this helpful video. I just got a CL and was looking for something exactly like this. Cheers!
You are welcome!
I too have just bought a CL. Your video saved me lot of time! The 35mm is the perfect partner lens. Thanks for the clear explanations.
Hi Huw. Glad it was helpful!
You the Man Nick! Thanks! Come visit us in Tennessee!
really like with this camera. can wait for a new version
Great video given I’ve just bought a CL
Thanks Michael. I'm sure you will enjoy the CL, it's a great camera.
Really helpful lesson. Thank you. Do you have any more introductory videos for the CL ?
Not yet!

I found this very useful. Thank you.
Hi Per. Glad it was helpful!
.
You have exquisite taste in watches as well, Nick
Thanks Mark.
If you press and hold the right wheel, you can lock the wheels.
Stephen, good tip, thanks. Saves having the wheels rotate by accident if you are carrying the camera.
Thanks.. it helps a lot.
I have a question, how to disable noise reduction on capturing long exposure? Thanks again..
Hi Sugiarto. I'm afraid that's not possible. The only camera on which you can do this is the SL2.
Danke from Germany
So helpful!
So glad!
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
NOTE: FIRMWARE 3.2 shown. Current version 4.0 behaves a bit differently, but many menu options are the same.
The video was recorded before FW 4.0 was released - you can see the difference here:

There will be a new video on shooting with the CL and the 60mm Macro lens soon. Watch this space...

Anyone know how you check the shutter count on a LEICA CL?
If you take it to a Leica Customer Care centre they might be able to help.
Commentaires en anglais incompréhensibles, Leica pourrait faire un effort il vend en France aussi.
