You are so lucky with the 100 Jahre Bauhaus edition!! I've been searching for years for one of these and have never even seen one come up for sale. Beautiful!
I bought my CL in December 2017 and it will be in my arsenal for some time to come. I use the 23mm f/2 summicron and the 60mm APO f/2.8 Elmarit macro. The image quality is quite amazing and so is the handling of the camera. It is simple, intuitiv and quick to use. I also use my Pentax ltd. prime lenses with a Novoflex adapter on the CL with very good results. These Pentax lenses are small, good quality and easy to carry for travel and street photography. Leica has also a good range of lenses for their APSC system. The drawback for me is the low battery capacity and the lack of a tilting screen. If there is a successor in the works with a tilt screen I'd be tempted to upgrade.
Thanks a lot for watching and your comment. You have a nice setup. I agree that the battery capacity is a bit on the short side. Two batteries is a must. I would be curious to seen if and when Leica applies tilt screens.
I have a Leica CL. I use Panasonic LUMIX DMW-BLC12PP batteries which are the same as the CL batteries and I charge the batteries on a Nitecore USB charger made especially for the Leica camera. All items can be purchased on Amazon.
Thanks George. Someone pointed me in the direction of the Nitecore USB charger. Many thanks also for the hint with the Panasonic batteries. Much appreciated.
I owned a Leicaflex SL and some R lenses since latge 60s given to me by my late father. I bought a Leica CL in mid-2019 and I carried it for all my travelling together with two lenses :Vario-Elmar-TL 18-56 f/3.5-5.6 ASPH, and APO-Vario-Elmar-TL 55-135 f/3.5-4.5 ASPH. Recently I also bought a Q2. I love the CL for its simplicity and I am looking forward for Leica to release an improved version later.
CL has been my daily commute camera for a long time. Never quite into the TL lenses though. Using exclusively M-mount glass, both Leica M and Voigtlander VM ones. Have to say it really feels like a smaller and more compact M. Love the handling and overall experience.
Yes, right? I was also surprised how it feels very similar to a M im a way. Nice that you shoot the CL with M glass. I also don’t think that I will build up a TL lens collection, since I have the M glass.
Great video! I've had a Leica CL with Summicron-TL 23mm and the Elmarit-TL 18mm for about 6 months now and absolutely love it. It takes brilliant photos, is easy to carry around all day, looks beautiful and has amazing build quality. It's my first digital Leica (I have a 1936 ilia) and now I'm hooked...
I have a CL, have also had the Q and the Q2. You can get a tiny usb powered double BLC12 battery charger for travel. No need for a bulky charger and power cable.
I guess the interchangeable lens capability of the CL, would make it a little bit more desirable than a Q (or Q2), as a second digital Leica. That aside, the Special Edition Leicas, are really beautiful. The white Zagato M-10 that was release a few years back had the aesthetics I liked and always wanted. I couldn't afford it though.
A good discussion of the CL System Marcus. I enjoy my CL as a backup for my SL (601). As you point out, at 24MP, the CL offers very solid images. Found you months ago while researching the M-D. Although I would love an M10-D, the EVF focus system has grown on me and never needs calibration (no RF drift). BTW, the three button design ethos carries across all three Leica systems (CL/M/SL) making using them interchangeably quite seamless.
Yes, definitely a great companion for the SL too. The M10-D is gorgeous and I can totally understand that the EVF is the killer feature. I wish the M-D had EVF capabilities as well. And the three button design and the consistency across Leica bodies is great if one switches back and forth. Thanks for watching and your comment.
I've been using the CL for over two years and love it. My issue is not so much with the camera but rather the lack of availability of Panasonic or Sigma lenses scaled for APS-C cameras. I just recently bought and returned a Lumix 70-300 zoom because it was too heavy for me to lug around. Sadly because there are only two crop sensor L mount cameras (CL & TL2) on the market there is no incentive to produce such lenses.
As well as the three Sigma APS-C primes, the Sigma i series primes are very compact - I’ll be interested in getting my hands on the new, very tiny 90mm f/2.8 to see how it performs.
Get a set of Panasonic spare batteries and a double charger, works like a charm for me. Best Leica camera especially since firmware 4 0. The only downside imho is that the lenses are way to big compared to the CL
Thanks Steve. George just pointed this out as well. I was not aware that the Panasonic batteries also work in the CL. Still a lot to learn about the CL but I love it and firmware 4 is great.
Nice presentation of Leica CL, I hope that CL2 will have a IBIS mainly to use it with my M lenses, For travel I would use it with CL zoom and as well as a complimentary camera for my SL2-S.
You can get a tiny USB (C and micro) charger which fits in the palm of your hand which charges 2 batteries at once. Nothing to take but that and a phone cable.
Hi Marcus ... i thought they made the Bauhaus edition only in silver. Was also thinking of getting one, but now since 4 years have passed, i might just wait and see if they get a new one out anytime soon. Viel Spass mit der Kleinen 😀
lately i transfer from Q-P to CL+18mm because CL have good enough IQ compare with Q-P, with 18mm way way much smaller and most importantly TLs and most importantly CL have really really beautiful B&W simulation :)
Good hint with the b&w simulation. I haven't tried it yet. So far I was shooting RAW and did the b&w conversation during the editing phase. Will try the in-camera simulation. Thanks
Fyi, the Leica TL2 do have a TypeC port for charging and transfer data. You could get an USB charger to charge the Leica CL battery with power brick. I am using the USB charger for the Leica Q.
Thanks for watching and your feedback. Great to know that the TL2 has a USB C port for charging + data port. I wasn’t aware. Looks like things are changing. Thanks also for the tip with regards to a Leica CL battery USB charger. Am I right to assume that you are referring to 3rd party manufacturers? I just checked the Leica website and couldn’t find one from Leica.
I was thinking of buying the Ricoh. A friend of mine just recently got one and I was able to try it out. There was something about it that I didn’t like personally. I can totally see though why so many are fascinated by the Ricoh GR series.
Leica has not released a new camera system apart from also releasing a new M in the same year. Since the M11 arrived without a new CL, it is HIGHLY unlikely that a new CL will arrive until a new M makes its entry. Since the CL is already so old and there is no realistic release window with Leica anytime soon, is the CL system dead? There also have not been any new L mount APSC lenses since the CL arrived. Personally, from a product strategy point of view, the CL does not make sense for Leica. It competes with the SL line. Everyone with the money to buy a CL is also a potential SL customer. Why dilute the potential for the SL line with a CL? I would love to see a new CL personally. If it had IBIS and somewhat decent video capabilities I would by it as a companion to my M cameras.
Thanks for watching and your feedback. I am obviously not a Leica strategist but I see your point of the CL not making the most sense in the current lineup. I have no information if there will be a new CL any time soon if at all. Personally I would also root for a new CL. IBIS and USB C charging would make it very attractive. If it could do decent video I also wouldn’t say no as a content creator. All I can say is the the SL doesn’t make sense to me personally as a companion to the M. It has a completely different philosophy.
Thank you for answering, I have seen your videos several times, they are extremely instructive and serious. I think that now that they have discontinued the CL is not so valid to make revisions, but it still seems to me a great camera. Before buying a Leica M lens, buy the TT Artissan 35 1.4 and the Sigma 56 1.4, I think they are great. I'm thinking about the Sigma 10 50 2.8. Venture a little more into the Leica world with the Q2, I would like your review of this if possible for portraits also, possibly enime me for your content a m later, receive a big hug, God bless you, thank you
Thanks Jeroen. I don’t have access to those lenses for the CL. I only shoot with the pancake lens that is on the CL and occasionally adapt my M lenses. A comparison with a SL(2-S) I think does not make a lot of sense, since they are for very different use cases. A Q video could be possible. I don’t own one but I might be able to get my hands on a Q2. Let’s see.
Nice camera but it's already 4 years old... and for cheaper you have the fuji x-e4, but yes he looks nice! I shoot also on Leica MP analog with several Leica lenses...and I looking for a small digital camera.
Oh the irony David. You use a bespoke Leica MP to expose 35mm film when any cheap camera could substitute. Perhaps you might see the value in the Leica CL, if you adapted your M-glass to it? Then you would have a traditional analog rangefinder and modern mirrorles digital that share glass!

I feel like the only TL lens you should use with the Leica CL is the 18mm f2.8, ultimate mobility with great quality
How is the evf-experience with m-glass?
@jensjensen6895 if your good focussing manually with CL glass through the EVF it is the same with M glass. Just remember there is a crop factor.
@@TheMPhotography ok. I actually meant the general experience with the evf. I love the one on my SL601, but sometimes wish, it was a little smaller.
Good luck with the new CL Marcus; and an additional bonus they fit nicely into your small bag.

Thanks for watching and your comment. Happy to hear that you are also enjoying the CL. Your two lenses are a great setup for most situations.
Did you get the black or black/silver chrome version?
Nice summing up. You should at least try the 35 Summilux-TL. Yes it's big, but it's a stunner.
Thanks Kyle. Let’s see if I can get my hands on that lens.
I have a CL, have also had the Q and the Q2. You can get a tiny usb powered double BLC12 battery charger for travel. No need for a bulky charger and power cable.
Thanks for watching and the tip with the usb powered double blc12 charger.
@@TheMPhotography It's tiny, literally 3x2x3/4 of an inch, plus it takes usb C and usb micro, just that and your phone cable and you're done.
Spounds perfect. I need to search for it. Thanks.

Yeah. Some of the special editions are very beautiful. The Zagato M10 is indeed a beauty. Outside of my budget as well 😢
The TL2 has a USB-C port for charging or image transfer.

Yeah. A pity but true. The TL glass itself is very modern and good but the L mount alliance is not incentivized enough to produce a lot of lenses.
Do you mean zooms? There are 3 Sigma primes for the CL/TL cameras--16mm, 30mm and 56mm.
No sure if Efrom was just referring to zoom lenses or generally. Thanks for pointing out the prime lenses from Sigma though.
As well as the three Sigma APS-C primes, the Sigma i series primes are very compact - I’ll be interested in getting my hands on the new, very tiny 90mm f/2.8 to see how it performs.

Its a great little camera. I shoot my M glass on it. I shoot nothing but manual glass on it . It just feels right and gives great results.
That’s nice. Indeed the results with M glass are amazing.
Great camera for its size, build and image quality. By the way, I got the 150/150 set 🤫😊

The CL obviously carries the name of the Leitz/Minolta camera but I see it more as a digital IIIF.
