Considering all the parents that were complaining about the first movie being too violent it's no surprise Leo never uses his swords in secret of the ooze
Not true. He jammed them into the ceiling at the beginning to lift him self up to kick a dude in the face. You know how you're supposed to use Katanas.
1:00:20 Yes, April swinging the chucks around was cut from the European releases. Also when Michelangelo swings those cold-cuts around. He grabs them, screams "Combat cold-cuts", and it cuts to the two guys running away and him chasing them.
@@razrentals8897 The original film was edited worse. Anything with nunchucks was removed, so the nunchuck face-off in the apartment was gone, they darkened the image of him swinging his chucks while ordering the pizza on the phone, and any reference to Splinter using the nunchuck at the end is omitted, so it's poorly edited to look like he just grabs the spear, and Shredder just inexplicably lets go and falls. I saw the uncut version before the edited version, so it was very jarring when I saw it all. The one thing I think the European edit has going for it is that I feel the apartment fight has a stronger edit. It's on RUclips somewhere, but it has alternate footage. I felt a combination of the US and EU released footage could've made a very strong fight there.
Just found your channel today and dude, I gotta say, I love these TMNT reviews!! They’re really informative and fun, and you go really in depth on the figures! Plus your trivia spots are really cool too! Happily subbed! Keep up the phenomenal work!! 😄
The first few runs of the 90 2 packs had the original hinged hips, but NECA did a re-release of the 90 2 packs a year or so back that did have the ball joint hips. I have a set of both on the 90 figs with both hip joints.
They ever release a Keno toy?!? I feel like he was a big part of the movie, as a kid he was my favorite character. Also he had that kool scooter. "Who are you, night security?"
I also noticed my 4 pack Soto turtles have the updated ballpoint hips, but the 2 pack Soto turtle sets still have the older hip joints, and also noticed it on other Soto 2 pack reviews... So I guess only the vhs 4 packs have those updated ball joints. Thought that was pretty strange.. and unfortunate for anybody who got the 2 packs instead of the 4 pack.
That's probably why we were able to find the SoTO 2 packs very early last summer: they didn't change very much. They just gave us an updated head sculpt, with different paint apps.
@@dr.darkroom are the newer SOTO 2 packs still shipping the old hip joints? I was thinking probably the initial run had the old ones while the newer run will have the new hip joints
You’re welcome! I hate when they make new covers for dvds instead of using the older artwork. They’ll photoshop some pictures of the characters together or something. Forget that and give me the vhs cover!
Awesome review! Can't wait to get mine. My only nitpick is that the bandana ends all seem to be exactly the same, even on the accessory pack heads. Would've been nice to have two different ones for each turtle, like the 1990 figures.
Got mine last week with the accessory pack. The alt head for Leo looks so much better imo. But these are pretty sweet. Anyway, let's watch the actual review now :P
@4:19 in the original draft for the fred wolf cartoon, leonardo originally woulda been the orange one, and mikey the blue one. hence the early seasons titlecards having mikey hold swords and leo eating a pizza. its what remains of the original concept.
The conspiracy goes much deeper I see haha. I always wondered why he was orange when I was a kid. I’m glad they went with the colors they did. Orange fits Mikey and blue fits Leo much better.
The reason Mikey never uses his nunchucks in the second movie is because of censorship in the UK. The turtles popularity in the UK took off, but certain ninja weapons were banned, even from being depicted in media. Nunchucks were one of these. Seems counter intuitive that the other weapons were OK to show, but a couple wood sticks connected by a chain was out of the question, but that's gov't for ya. Also, they were called the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles in the UK.
In a lot of the photos I've seen: it looks like the original movie figures have less gaps between their joints. I wonder if that was to make the newer ones less stiff...yet, to me, that means the older ones look more like the real costumes, as you dont see those joint gaps in most angles. What do you see: with them both in hand?
I think there’s more of a gap in the elbows and maybe the knees. I took a quick look yesterday, but I agree with you, the elbows especially look better on the 1990 versions. I’d pick the 90s figures over the Soto turtles any day of the week, both because of the movie likeness and because I like the details and cleaner joints.
@@razrentals8897 Another awesome review dude! I went the 2 pack route and couldn’t be happier with these figs. I came into the line recently so I gotta track down a few things but I guess NECA got me all in on another line😹 Bring on that Keno next and hopefully we can get Paige Turco on board for a Soto April soon.
The best part when i was a kid was Casey Jones yelling at Raph "ciao, pd" in the french version of the 1st movie, which translates by "bye, f4gg0t". The kind of insult that would be absolutely impossible in 2023, the director would be facing deathrow.
And that caught on in other parts of Europe and the planet from what I recall. I remember reading a UK article stating that mother's were complaining about their kids creating nunchucks, so thus the ban started. And yeah, doesn't make sense...cause it's a lot easier to get a broom handle and use it as a bo staff.
After buying 4 knockoffs I finally got 4 authentic from tmnt and I really like them so now I was thinking about getting these… but after seeing their faces I really don’t want them I can’t get over how bad Donny’s face looks n my favorite was Ralph cuz he’s the brawler n he looks too happy in this set.. I think I will pass

The Dinosaurs analogy, that's spot on.
The Tokka & Rahzar effects in SoTO though, that's good stuff.
Agreed Tokka and Rahzar look awesome.

Jeez, it seems so weird to cut that out and leave all the other weapons in. I guess they don’t really use them other than Don.

Gary, don't forget to check your box. There should also be a Dockshore Club insert in there. Thanks for the review!
Holy cow! I had no idea. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll have to say something about it in my accessory set review.

What do you use for your lighting setup for your toy photos? Nicely done!
I have a desk lamp and two directional lights that were pretty cheap on Amazon. I shoot with my iPad and edit in iMovie.
