As much as I'm all about source accuracy, I love how NECA takes artistic liberties when it comes to the Mirage and Archie stuff. Most of those drawings are a bit rough. They're able to elevate them, make 'em more refined and cooler, but still stay true to the designs. Makes me wonder if they're gonna do the "first sketch" Turtles. The Playmates ones are pretty alright (as good as it gets for them), but I'd love 6" scale versions that have the same skin tone and all red bandanas...just like that coloured image you showed.
@@Chalor. I wouldn’t mind getting their version of the first group shot too! They’d at least scale better with the other mirage figures because the playmates ones are small. I don’t mind the playmates versions either. I still haven’t opened all of them up yet because I thought maybe I’d do a review but they at least look decent. I think they did a better job with them than their 84 turtles. I like how cartoony they look. Like you I also appreciate when neca takes some artistic liberties because they actually seem like they know what they’re doing. I have less faith in super7 taking artistic liberties because that Leonardo they’re making with the sewer trash can helmet doesn’t look like it has the spirit of the playmates figures. It’s just a cash grab without much effort. Neca seems to understand the fan base so far.
Great review! And packed with tons of information as always! I decided to open up one of my sets of these during your review... and oh my! I'm in love with these figures! 🐢😍🐢😍🐢😍🐢😍 Just the fact that we can have figure versions of those first designs is so cool. They definitely look great on the shelf. And I had no idea that the nunchucks came out of the wrists! That makes them even better for being whichever turtle you want! Here's the thing... most of us who collect Turtles are a bit sick with our turtle-itis... I bought 4 sets. My thought process: I bought one set of the Usagi 4 pack. It came in, and the packaging was so cool, I had to leave it "in box." So for these turtles, I figured... why not get 2 sets to open (so I could have 4 turtles posed together, 2 of each style, using all 4 heads) and one to leave in box. But what if when I got them, I changed my find and wanted 4 of each style? So I got an extra... that I could give away to a friend...or keep. I might have to open all 4... 🤫😏 I mean... I did just find the Black and White versions... that one could stay in box. 🤷♂️ Outside of posing them with their matching versions... I don't know what I plan to do setup wise. But oh, are they some beautiful ugly turtles! 😅
@@andrewmoeller1987 haha yes I understand the sickness very well! Don’t feel too bad about buying four sets. I’ve seen other people on Facebook post pictures of having four of each with their different weapons. Is the black and white art on the box just the uncolored art from this set or is it new art?
@razrentals8897 it's the same art, just in black and white (and red). Also, I forgot to say how much I enjoyed your battle at the end of the video. Ok, I'm on to open up a 2nd set of the First Turtles and hope I don't feel the need to open all 4. 😆😄
You're the only other one I know of that noticed how ridiculous the spinning nunchucks look with the chain being stretched out stationary. Makes _absolutely_ no sense. And with the weapons coming from that first group shot sketch, I wish Playmates went with that same design for the katanas. They took things a little too literal and weird with having the handles look like wet noodles. The intent of the drawing was meant for them to be straight, naturally. Great counter example with what I was saying earlier with how NECA takes artistic liberties to make things generally better, then Playmates come along to do the opposite.

@@razrentals8897 Yeah, that's what I've heard/read many many times. I mean I can't prove anything, but it all adds up. @razrentals8897 I would think they would. I live in Addison IL, and they're sitting in Melrose Park IL. I'm guessing that's a warehouse they have them held up in.
@razrentals8897 also Gary, would you be able to add a segment in your next neca tmnt figure video? What I'd like is a segment that shows how to safely get your toys warmed up and joints moving so I dint break mine. I feel it would be beneficial and worthwhile. So instead of saying "I'm gonna get these guys warmed up, and I'll talk to you in a sec" you show that process. If you could show the hair dryer method as well as the warm water method. I'd really appreciate it. Or just make it a completely separate video if that makes things easier? Thank you man
