It's incredible how much insight Andy got into the actual style of Alexi Laiho. IT really covered every aspect of his sound.

The only thing that missing is the black painted nails!
This actually sounds a lot like an Iron Maiden and Children of Bodom Hybrid type thing.

Alexi may not be the most virtuoso but the dude has style.
1:11 was so freaking clean and accurate, amazing technique!
Andy should paint his finger nails black and add about a pound of bracelets to his left wrist - that would make the illusion of Alexi perfect

Although I have personally made a tab for this solo, currently we're still working on how to include them with the DVDs, in the meantime, Andy teaches this solo note for note on the DVD, so check that out :)
Although we don't currently include tab, Andy takes you through each lick telling you the fret numbers one note at a time.

I am a BIG fan of Alexi and this guy (who impresses me with any of his interpretations) doesn't only have fast fingers, but good ears! He's been able to put everything Alexi plays (phrases, scales etc) in one melodic, original and authentic demonstration. You are awesome dude!! :)

@tonalang Hi there are free lessons available in our Guitar Magazine called Guitar Interactive - stick that in Google and you'll find the site! Hope they help! Alternatively some sample lessons are avaialble on our channel and the iguitarmag channel! If you can't find them give us a message back and will send you links.

@cykoxy Hi Cxkoxy the Quick Licks series are solos in the styles of an artist so they aren't actual licks from specific songs.

The entire solo is pretty much "Living Dead Beat"
There are a few parts that are not exactly "Laiho-ish" but for the most part, he nailed it. This could pass off as a new Bodom song if i didn't know better.
1:00 - 1:40 is exactly a Laiho lead.

@Bguitars724 Hi there, well analysing a solo / solos or a guitarists writting, is basically learning and taking a series of solos/ songs you like and breaking them down into chunks, you'll soon see if there are any similarities any techniques he uses often. You mix this in with your own licks and you grow into your own sound and own solos. Does that make sence?

Yeah, currently it's just the one lesson unfortunately. I obviously can't talk prices here because they could change in a year and they're different in different territories for licencing reasons, but if you click buy you'll be able to see the price of the item in your cart :)
@Heroeshere unfortunately you need licenses to do TAB and we don't have that type of license. :( I know it is handy to have tab at your side to refer to but the beauty of it being a dvd is that you can pause - rewind - rewatch. Plus the tutors do break down sections of the licks to teach you.
No, Andy doesn't speak Spanish and we don't offer voiceover translation because it's not something people have asked for. There's no need to worry though as Andy shows you every lick one note at a time :)

@miramar2011 Hi, with this DVD we only teach you the guitar solos. You do not get taught the chords or drums. The chords and drums you are hearing in the background is the 'Jam Track' that is supplied with the DVD. Hope that helps.

@riseagainstrul33 Hi there, yes the dvd this piece comes on is a full lesson on various licks that Andy has created in the style of Alexi Laiho. He does go through the licks at a pace where you can follow him, breaking down each section -plus you can always pause the DVD at any section your not 100% sure about. hope that answers your question.
It's something we're seriously working on, the only problem is (as you mention) getting it to everyone who already purchased the DVD, it's a really sticky one but we're bouncing some ideas around
@miramar2011 Hi there - with the Quicks licks DVD what your taught is around 30 licks the chords and drums are the Jam track that comes on the DVD for you to play along to once you master all the licks.
all that is missing is a little bit of wah and more sweeps
I wonder if Alexi ever watched this and thought, "Hm, those are some great ideas, I think I'll try them next time around!" :P

Everything about this is amazing, including the backing instruments, theywork really well with it, but needless to say Andy James is how I'd like to be playing in 5 years!

A lot of this stuff reminds me of the albums Hate Crew Deathroll and Are You Dead Yet. There are also a lot of parts that sound really really close to stuff that CoB has already written.

That's a pretty incredible reproduction of his style. If someone posted this video claiming it was a CoB guitar tutorial video the only way I'd know it wasn't is the absence of the ring finger snake tattoo or whatever it is. Well, that and this is about twice as clean as most videos of Alexi playing. Pretty amazing playing.

@supadubadude Someone said it, but I have to say it too. Almost every lick from this video is actually something alexi already used. I can understand why you dont hear it tho, I didnt hear it the first time I watched this video (bad ears) but now, its more than obvious, to me at least...

@Bguitars724 Instead of learning guitar by tab, use a transposing software to show you the actual music of it. Most soloists in metal usually revolve around pentatonic scales, major and minor scales (depending on happier or sadder sounds), and a ton of variations of diminished and augmented scales (mostly sweeps). It really helps a ton to actually know the theory behind what you're playing instead of guessing numbers.
ok, so im hearing a lot of people keep telling me "you must not listen to a lot of cob cause this sounds exactly like alexi" and "this sounds like a lot of his solos put together". 1: i ACTUALLY listen to a lot of cob thats why i actually commented on this video saying what i did, i know that there are lots of alexi elements in this, but i was simply saying that this composition as a whole is not exactly like alexi.
am not sure if its just me, but it seems to be, this guy is great an everything, but 2 words - hair tie. After i learn ANYTHING whatsoever on guitar, the next step is to get it CLEAN!, especially with string skipping tapping u get the most background noise, why does no one care when he uses a hair tie in EVERY video? if he can play without one an is just using it for making sure the demonstration is 100 % accurate then fair enough, but still, this video is about playing like another CORRECTLY
@bcfblack I think it's stupid to say someone has no feeling in their music. If they're willing to work, as hard as someone like Andy does, to be heard in the guitar world, then they must have a lot of love for music. Everyones definition of feeling isn't slow, bendy, solos. Plus this isn't exactly his primary style anyways...lol
@licklibrary you dudes are the shit bro thanks for doing these dvds, danny gill andy james and the scruffy haired pommy dude hu teaches tender surrender(sorry 4got his name) i went from a basic guitarist that could play alot of intros and chords of songs, to shredding in practically eight weeks,(give or take)
this was most diffenetly not Alexi Laiho style except for the sweeps and thats about it, i honestly can't see alexi playing like that and andy dosent even have a tremolo bar on that guitar, and thats one of alexi's favorite toys on a guitar, im not trying to degrade andy or anything because he's an AWEMAZING player, i really just dont think that this was very alexi laiho-ish.

@fallen6968 yeah dude! but alexi laiho can made own songs and rock better than andy james, andy james is a master of the guitar but it's a some kind of "ditto" ajajaja i listen andy james songs and isn't bad but kissing the shadows or hate crew deathroll are a master piece !!
Here is a little criticism from me. I must admit that some of th licks reminded me of Alexi, but there was definitely also some who didnt. At all i thought it was a pretty good Alexi Laiho "Cover". The backingtrack didnt really sound like COB, but thats not that important, i guess

I heard alot of alexi laiho style in there, I think some of you might be tone deaf but this is more of newage alexi the intro sounded somthing out of hatebreeder though anyway keep it CoB, Keep it Metal \m/

@Mig21LanceRX Its not a capo but something that helps keep the sound clean for recording. i am probably not explaining it well but that is what I have seen answered when this question has come up before.
THE ONE THING I DONT LIKE ABOUT THIS GUY, anyone ever notice how he doesnt use his pinky that often, HUGE rookie mistake, otherwise hes bad the fuck ass, lol and still kicks ass without the pinky

@Mig21LanceRX I believe its just tuned down one step and that looks like one of those rubber bands i attach at my first fret to suppress excess vibration to get a smooth\tight distortion.
this kind of lesson "play like ...." is not so dificult, just need some musical education and listen to the guy you want to sound like.

@Scythes96 If you were to purchase this DVD, he breaks up each part of the solo and shows you how. plus, being able to pause and rewind, you can see it slow as many times as you like.
It'd be pretty easy to fry a burger under the sea, all you need to do is save up enough money to buy a submarine. It would much harder for Alexi to do this stuff!
