My guitar doesn't do that.
Mine as well. I think I need to fix this broken guitar
Lmfao
jajajajajajajajajaja
It could
Amazing! Andy is reserved in heaven. Used his life to the best possible.
I appreciate his skills, talent and knowledge. I feel lucky to be able to discover his music
When he plays parts like that he is normally following the chords, doing different kind of arpeggio extensions (minor, major, minor 7th, major 7th, 9ths etc) aswell as blending in some passing notes that does not belong to the arpeggio. He often play the same thing through octaves aswell.
well, there's John Petrucci's replacement if he ever leaves DT
+R Bharathkumar I hope he never leaves DT as well. if he does, I'll have to cry myself to sleep for a month
David Lyons I did it when Portnoy left but it lasts forever! :'(
Either him or Marco Sfogli
Petrucci is irreplaceable
No Pettucci, no Dream Theater.
ANDY IS MY GUITAR HERO!
thos jh emg pickups sounds so awesome when andy shreds with them \m/
now there is a petrucci style lesson we all been waiting for, but why is he playing with ESP instead of music man, ironic. :D
Would this be recommended for an intermediate player like myself? I'm looking to expand on my melodic phrasing as well as developing strong technique..
My fucking god :0 talk about perfect shredding!
They're both equally as technical. Check out Stream of Consciousness. AJ does tear it up faster to some extent though. I would say his alternate picking is almost better than JP's.
The Best Part lick is 1:58 Untill 2:03
And Alternante 1:58 untill 2:03
Does he have the JH emg set in there?
What about Paul Gilbert and John Petrucci?
es un maldito, me ha quitado las ganas de seguir viviendo T.T
For anybody curious about the inspiration behind the licks, this is my best guess.
0:00 - 0:15 As I Am intro
0:15 - 0:40 Glass Prison intro solo
0:40 - 0:50 Constant Motion (main riff)
0:50 - 1:15 On the Backs of Angels solo
1:15 - 1:25 As I Am solo
1:25 - 1:50 I have no idea, sounds like a solo from Black Clouds
1:50 - 2:35 backing track from In the Name of God but solo sounds like A Change of Seasons
2:35 - 2:50 Constant Motion riff
2:50 - 3:10 This Dying Soul ending
Zachary Lawrence thx
U are awesome bro
This man is a hardcore fan
1:25 - 1:50 is definitely from black clouds and man... isnt this the best riff ever ? i mean it is almost as powerful as ruclips.net/video/AAnIjM3MWUE/видео.html (which is my favorite) not in the same way ofc don't you think ?
zacharylawrence pattern at 2:31 is from the first solo in endless sacrifice, and the pattern at 1:22 is from damage control
This dude is the 3 finger wizard
A majority of scales, particularly in jazz, heavily emphasis economy picking which incorporates the use of 3 notes per rule
Profit Potato
Funny cause that's my nick name... but for a different reason
I think you meant Michael Schenker
4
Yeah
these licks probably won't be quick to learn
When you play it slowly to a metronome or a drum beat, which I prefer, then you will learn it faster than you think :) I already got the intro cleared!
Daniel Harvey 3 years later....
any update
@@ChessCat1500 Still Intro :v
i agree with you too
Were you able to?
Where did you get your pact with Satan?
+Hewparu its hard to tell but he actually has a pic of destiny
Fr i need a spot on that list🙏🏼🙏🏼👀
Go to a crossroads 😂
I will find it TOO
at crossroads.
There are not many humans on earth that can mimick so many different styles and have the of accuracy as AJ does. Well Done Andy
Hate to state the obvious, but this guy is a very good guitarist ..
I just went to a Dream Theater show in my city and it was amazing! All band members have a lot of technique! Petrucci is certainly one od the best guitar players ever, and Andy James too!
If I could "like" your comment from this app then I would do, many times!!
Spurs :D You shouldn't compare god to Andy* fixed
petrucci is love petrucci is life
DENHOLM theDRUNK He is not shrek okay?
That arpeggio solo run at 1:25sec was simply melodic and outstanding.
More String Skipping then straight Arpeggios.
But yes , outstanding indeed.

***** yeah. andy uses it when recording, but he can play without it and still be as clean.
*****
Things like that are always possible but harder, guess you just need to be tighter right
***** It's a combination of the picking hand dampening the strings, the available fingers on the fretting hand also play their part too (especially in sweeping from the high E to the low E). After watching such clean shit like this I decided to completely overhaul my playing after over a decade of bad habits. Play it slow AND clean then go from there.
Technique wise I'd say AJ's in the same league as JP.
Cool jokes around here.
Nah.... andys better way betterrr
Sandarpan Mukherjee I would say he is in a far higher league.
I have to disagree with that
@@martijnvanspaendonck7989 The thing is he may be way better technically but dont forget what john has already written down. He composed all these beautiful solos riffs and songs. In this case john petrucci is better but just my opinion. Didnt really heard any andy james stuff, i know hes hell of a player but so is john. Johns stuff brought tears of sadness and joy to my eyes. He really can do both.
Andy James starts playing at the age of 12.
I would love to see a G3 with Andy James, John Petrucci and Jeff Loomis!!
Wouldn't that be brilliant!!
Maybe g5 w/ Satch and Kiko?
This is more like andy james style
kamikazikaizer yeah
He mixes his style with other guitar players.
This is basically just the glass prison
No fucking way, noob, it's not "basically just the glass prison". First licks are easy AJ version of GP, but the rest are likcs from different DP solos, don't talk shit, u fat fuck xD
Thanks for the comment!
DT*
I mean Deep Purple lul
Yeah and the end is This Dying Soul, even the time signatures are similar
I never understood why he didn't use his JP sig in this video. He uses it alot in other quick licks videos, but not in the actual JP lick vid ;p
Frank Homma because the EC-1000 kicks ass
Lmao dude have you ever played a JP? It stomps the EC-1000 as far as craftsmanship and attention to every small detail. They are really a joy to play
The EC-1000 does kick ass, but it’s no JP.
I think it’s mostly because of them pickups that he has on the esp
Just because you're a diehard dream theater fan doesn't mean that you don't have to admit when you find a guitarist of better technical skill. Andy can play any style of writing, and mimic guitarists perfectly, I do admit, of course JP kicks his ass in writing completely original things and emotional things, but Andy james is better at shredding it up. Not saying that JP isn't good, he's fucking amazing.
even petrucci isnt this clean
Petrucci doesn't use a dampener at the nut
thats what she said
HA!!!!!!
Zac Thomas with or without Andy is A clean player dude :)
Obviously you haven't listened to Lost not Forgotten.
lol REALLY suprised you didnt use the music man for this video.
Cody Butler me too, the sounds like jp
nugroho setiawan priyandono i was thinking like tone wise
Hi Hasan Basri Cekem, Andy James has been playing a very long time, theres no easy way around it, the best way is to practise practise practise! Will send you a link to a list of videos which Andy James explains learning guitar and tips for guitarists. Hope there helpful!
Sounds like themes and variations from Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, Constant Motion, As I Am, and Pull Me Under. Did I miss any?
metropolis, hell's kitchen maybe ...
i've picked up some innocence faded influence because of the string skipping but otherwise you're spot on!
Maybe panic attack?
Pretty damn accurate, definitely heard the intro to constant motion in there.
On the backs of angels
Hi Rowin, sure, will send you a link to your RUclips email - please check in approx 5 mins! All the best Licklibrary
Killer playing, Sir. The part from 1:27 - 1:51 is pure beauty!
andy has some really strong hands
Excellent! Glad your finding the DVD helpful - even if it is killing your pinky! All the best!
no matter how many times or what video i watch with andy james in. im still amazed at his playing, by far the best guitarist ive ever seen
I shit my pants watching this
More like Andy James style quick licks performance
i always wanted to now how john petrucci and megadeth would sound mixed together and now i have the answer
I love that motherfucking guitar, it's even prettier than a Gibson.
as you go along you start to realise how unbelievably overrated gibson is, there are so many better guitars than gibbys out there
DENHOLM theDRUNK word
What make is it?
Johndude that would be an ESP Ecplipse II or I not sure, but they are custom and fucking expensive, however you can get a cheap ESP standard eclipse II with the same features for about 1000 i think, though i am not sure or you could get the LTD version which would be above 500, cannot remember the exact price
Johndude It's an LTD EC-1000
Oh my god.I ll throw my guitar out of the window.Nice performance.
Andy is so much better than the rest of the licklibrary team
Andy is the beast
His touch is just unbelievable
Effortless yet looks so beautifully complex.
that solo between 1:50 and 2:37 is awesome!!!
RumikXxeno what is this song?
god...
just bought this DVD, totally worth it, such great excersises and andy james is just amazing but everyone knows that, whoever was thinking of getting, def a good idea
The first part sounds like Megadeth.
Exactly...XD
JoelMetal lol and the part after the dissonant bends
Hearing those first couple of notes, I thought, "I think they got title of this video wrong.." That's was some Megadeth-ish shit for sure.
2:06 and same the song dread and the fugitive mind.
1.27 - 1.50 ! DAMN it Mr Andy James...Excellent JOB!
This is BETTER than Petrucci!
because then he was playing musicman - there is the odd exception to this rule, but it's 99% the case.
Petrucci style? Sounds better than Petrucci hahahaha
Rodrigo Kobayashi petrucci licks better than you face
and then "constant motion'"s riff and "this dying soul"s at the ending...really nice...it's really on John's style!
2:37 constant motion mode on
you missed the main thing about john. it doesnt go for at least 8 minutes
I could watch Andy shred forever..
It's something we're looking into doing, but we don't currently offer it.
1:50 money!!!
wat
No it really doesn't
Megadeth wouldn't be this complex
Sequence : The Glass Prison,
Constant Motion,
As i Am,
On the Back of Angels
Improvisation
Under a Glass Moon
This Dying Soul
Andy James style played by Andy James
John Petrucci is as good as you get but Andy James is right up there in skill level !
Amazing solo !!!!!!
Betcha John Petricci can't play this
You don't know John Petrucci then.
John petrucci could play this with his pubic hair dude
Petricci... lol
Actually pettruci is robot..he can reading any solo in this planet...including krypton planet
Awesome,amazing,beautiful..., I like Andy James 😍😍😍
Best guitarrist in the world in terms of techcnic and feeling!
So any one of the metal edge DVDs or Shred Concepts? ;)
I'm sorry. This man is a great player, but I wish they didn't put "Petrucci Style" It's not his style, its the actual licks he has played and twisted very little. I wish they actually asked JP to come in and talk about it lol
Just saw an 11yo cover this 🔥
I do not care whether I go to heaven or hell, I will take the guitar with me
What was that band around the nut of the guitar? Isnt that meant to mute strings? How was he able to play clean open strings with that on?
This is just incredible.
Sounds much more like Andy James than JP, which is a good thing!🔥
Keep any eye out for ESP and Laney clinics :)
sounds like as good a reason as any to get the DVD ;)
This is absolutely majestic! the constant motion variation is so killer! and every other part too! Loved the first slower part after the glass prison variation!
because Andy is endorsed by ESP ;)
It almost looks sped up in a fast forward. Those licks are awesome!
If John missed any tour dates, this would be the guy I'd want to see in his place.... Andy just kills shit!
Really Hope this isn't improv. if it is then I quit
+Aaron Brunner Nope. Don't worry. It's meticulously written, as Andy is trusted with creating a worthy product that people will purchase.
If he can do it i can do it too
So fucking pure!
Could learn this by ear and eyesight in one day just from your videos have been playing almost 3 years now wish you where more straight up and exquisite and knowledgable leaving such and immaculate peice and transposing it towards a dollar sign
andy james the best
The DVD in the description
well said sir! ;)
Petrucci's my favourite player, but i have to admit that Andy catched his approach especcialy on the riffs....
When playing the glass prison try too sweep pick
yikes!....well.... I'm gonna go and uhh.....tame my dragon...
1:27 - EPIC. \m/ . Andy James, you make a Lot of people with jelousy...Cheers from Rio de Janeiro!!!
This quick licks is a disappointment. I was expecting much better- especially for Petrucci style as Petrucci is one of Andy's influences. The chords at the beginning and the riff is weak. The arpeggios are just the intro to the glass prison, anyone can google tabs for those. I love quick licks, and lots of the other quick licks of andys, but it seems he didn't put much thought into this one. Granted some of the mid licks are pretty sweet, I don't think I will be adding this one to my repertoire
more metal ql. john norum.george lynch.glen tipon.john sykes.andy timmons.dave murray.adrian smith.vivian
there is a whole DVD where Andy teaches it :)
What the fuck just happened ?
2:05 Megadeth - Dread and the fugitive mind solo part!
Wow.
John Petrucci should get in touch with Andy. He can teach him how to play like himself only...better...???
