@Dilbot i think it's, because, like they said, they made this in a whim of 15 minutes and the intent behind this is just to be a meme video, and not spread hate to either game studios
@Dilbot I know right. This meme is even worse if you pick Assassins Creed II from 2009 and find out it scored alot higher than Yakuza 3 did on Metacritic which completely defeats this memes point.

The entire Yakuza franchise is a love letter to video games. It just goes to show that there is no excuse when it comes to development, because if you think about it, RGG Studios have well below average budgets, they make games in a short time and they recycle a lot of elements from previous games, and still manage to be true gems. Deep admiration I feel
they kind of just pull up with a "i dunno man, seems like a skill issue" to big shots here in the US. RGG Studios is honestly deserving the title of #1 game dev studio
It's the difference between the passion of developers versus the greed of corporate leaders. Trust me, once the cash really starts coming in and the opportunists rise through the ranks, the exact same degradation is going to happen. It's occurred with every single other franchise and big name, so don't be surprised when RGG gets there too.
They are interactive movies with little to no gameplay since it's so story driven that you never get to really play except on those insignificant mini games. The akuza serie is so overrated

The thing is RGG Studios constantly improves with (almost) every release. They may not have a large budget and they are certainly not perfect but by god they definitely deliver with every new game.
How do their games improve lol? Gameplaywise yakuza has been the same since 2016 with some tweaks made on the judgment games, the only improvement i could safely say is Like a dragon, the gameplay ties so well on the story. Sometimes they go 1 step foward and 2 steps back like Yakuza 6, just becouse it was a ambitious game doesn't remove the fact that the gameplay was poopy fart, and same goes for the story which tried so hard to make sense to be the final game in the Kiryu saga, i also found VERY lazy from them the fact that they still used the exact same model of haruka from yakuza 5, which makes her loo weird, she looks 13 years old and they expect us to think she had a baby? Lol. Also the remakes for Yakuza 1 and 2 have to be the most mediocre remakes ever, period. Not only the animations in Kiwami 1 feel the same, WHICH they shouldn't, you cannot simply animate the same ps1 to a new engine without looking odd, it felt like they didn't even put effort into it, cinemarics feel lifeless. And the gameplay is a copy and paste from 0. All of the above appllies to Kiwami 2. I genuinly hope i'm wrong about them not improving, let's just see if the remake of ishin proves that they can actually make a proper remake and Yakuza 8 can show that RGG is able to make a good sequel without copy and pasting all of the stuff from the previous game. I like their games, but i don't trust them on improving their games a bit, and like i said, Like a Dragon has been the only step foward they have taken since Yakuza 0.

We can all agree that if you play Yakuza from 0 all the way to 7, we still appreciate RGG studios to use the same map as it slowly changing into our modern time year.
At least we've been getting new maps since 5. Also RGG was a very limited studio budget wise until 0 blew up so I think people should try to get behind the reused assets
4 didn’t have a new city, but it did vastly expand Kamurocho with the rooftops, sewers, underground malls and so on. Even when they reduced the scale they made sure to add other stuff. That and it had 4 playable characters with different combat styles and quests lines so it made sense to scale back somewhere in the year span they had to make it.

I don't if it's just me, but I liked how Yakuza 3 focused a bit on Kiryu's life with the orphanage and the kids he watches over in the beginning. It shows more of his fatherly side to other children other than Haruka and how he is supportive and protective of them while still being the bloody-fisted badass we all still know. Assassin's Creed on the other hand imo, peaked at 4 and became more and more stale since then.
Not just that, Yakuza 3's final boss was a 'what if'to Kiryu if he didn't have Kazama's influence and guidance while growing up which is why, for me, Mine is one of the best bosses in Yakuza alongside Nishiki and Kuze

RGG Studios has so much heart behind every project they’ve done. Even their weakest entries have so much heart and experimentation that they build on their next installments. They take feedback into account and improve on systems, they create stories that lovingly call back to one another and they respect the living shit out of every character they put on screen. Especially Kiryu. And the games tend to be as wide as a puddle when it comes to their worlds to explore but as deep as an ocean. Kamurocho maybe small but it is ALWAYS jam packed with so many things to do and see, so many substories that are emotionally resonating, hilarious, entertaining, or all of the above at once. So many mini games that didnt need to be there at all in an already content rich game but are there anyways for you to play and each one has it’s own mechanics and depth. RGG games aren’t always perfect. I find 3 lacking in both story and gameplay, 5 too bloated and overtaken by it’s themes (too much yume), and Yakuza 6s feels underwhelming for Kiryu’s last outing. But all of those games have SO much heart and soul behind them that I can never stay mad or hate them. They’re pure. They’re still great games down to their core even if I have issues with them. And for some, those issues I have may not even be issues. They maybe part of why someone else loves them. Ubisoft games, despite me enjoying some of them, feel like Mcdonalds. They’re, FOR THE MOST PART (some parts of ubisoft games I’d argue have some level of thought and care put into them), manufactured to provide a certain level of entertainment at the bare minimum amount of dev effort. And fail in comparison to the amount of love and care that RGG puts into every title they’ve ever made.
Ubisoft had it's golden Age from Rayman 2 and Battle Isle, to AC Black Flag. Those were the days. Then it went down faster than a cold beer on a hot Summer
Yess I wouldn't exactly call Odyssey its 'Strongest' game by any means, Ubisoft had its days, they don't have a huge fanbase for no reason afterall. Just fell from the grace a long time ago
I CAN'T WAIT FOR KIWAMI 3, LIKE, ACTUALLY. Yakuza 3 has possibly one of the best Antagonists in the mainline games. Not to mention it has my favorite song (Fly). The only thing its lacking is the actual gameplay, and if Kiwami 3 fixes it, then it will possibly be the best Yakuza game by far (Y0 and Y5 will still be my all-time favorites though)
Being in the same place is kinda the point tho. It's about community and connection to "your" city, the place you live and are connected with. Such an absurd series as Yakuza wouldn't feel as grounded in the real world if it wasn't about people fighting and living in a specific part of the world. Real people don't go on worldwide adventures fighting new enemies all the time and exploring new cities all the time. That's the kind of thing I want/expect from a RPG, from high concepts adventure like a Deus Ex, from an Hollywood blockbuster bs like Uncharted. If Kiryu was touring around Japan punching the local mafia thugs rather than fighting to the bitter end in his town and with/against his own "family", I wouldn't be so invested
Reusing assets, NOT reusing mini games, each titles has very different experience when it comes to what you can do when not on the main story. But then again, what makes the LAD and Judgment franchise so popular is the story and narrative, absolute exemplary
Yakuza 3 was actually a huge upgrade when it first came out for ps3. Had new graphics, mechanics, and an amazing story. Going back to it in 2022 its dated but story wise, it was one of the best and I'd play it just for the story and not the gameplay.
A lot of early PS3 and 360 titles look rough. The launch 360 not having HDMI and most people in 2005 not having the best HDTVs did a lot of heavy lifting in the early days.

Otherwise it's not that much different in any other series, no matter how much one tend to glorify it, it'll get tedious and boring regardless if it's different or unique enough, especially with so many entries available and you try to play them all.

It has some of the happiest and saddest moments in the yakuza series i think
developers sometime forgets, that it's not about the quality of the game sometimes, it's not about how beautiful it looks or how authentic the animations are, but rather each game got a core audiance, and if you fail to bring the fans what they expect from the franchise, they are left with a bad tste, yakuza know it's core fans and their needs, and they deliver
soul and heart add up to quality of the game looks and animations that nowadays are wooden are only a small part back in the better days rockstart was spitting out new GTA full of climate, sould and heart wich made them great and build huge fanbases and then they made gta 5 the tasteless joke of an excuse and it's "fans" only talk about hating trevor or loving him
One thing I do not like about the newer Assassins creed entires were that the hits don’t feel satisfying it’s like slashing the same piece of paper over and over until it rips. While RGS game make you feel like you’re actually beating the goofy out of your opponent everytime without failure
Really shows you how newer technology doesn't always mean a better project. Most modern games use an algorithm to handle lip sync, and with the modern AC games' overabundance of mechanics, trying to be five different genres at once, the developers don't have a lot of time to do any of their gameplay features all that well. Meanwhile, the older game in this comparison just used traditional animations, and understood its own scope as to focus on delivering a good product and not getting over ambitious.
I agree, but when you mentioned trying to be five different genres at once and i just remembered yakuza 5 being a beat up,hunting/shooter ,sports, racing and a rythm game
@@ruskov-uu2pzYakuza is Yakuza its just built differant the side quests and mini games allows you to play every kind of genre the dev thinks is fitting lol
That apply to Yakuza games too honestly. Better technology doesn't equal better project. They've evolve their graphics to that match of a Cinematic experience, but trying too hard to be flashy with the combat hit animation make everything feel so redundant and unnecessary, with even less of an impacful tone for the "fun". It doesn't matter how one might excuse some of the "changes" for the fun of it or what the devs decide to put in for "fun". Ultimately, there will still be something that doesn't stick or work out in the game regardless of their intention.

"bro you just don't get it, ubisoft had to make that in a year!" And so does rgg with most of their games. Ironically yakuza 3 has the least copy/paste with it only really being able to reuse character models from kenzan. Yet it's considered the worst mainline yakuza game. Just goes to show how effective it can be to reuse assets when you *actually* give a shit about the games you're making.
no they didnt make it in a year, they made it in 3. Ubisoft have parallel studios working on games, origins was made by one, odyssey was made by another.

"The Kuze fight" which one lol The one in the sewer is the most iconic, but the one where he gets punched is just as cool and the final one is just pure badass
Just gonna say from these short clips I felt more emotionally invested with the Yakuza scene without any context of either, I think the music helps with that and the fighting feels much more impactful.
Fuck, this just reminds me how much I loved playing Prince of Persia and Rayman as a kid. Even Raving Rabbids series had more soul than a lot of Ubisoft's recent releases
That's a lot of bias considering the fact this video uses Odyssey instead of Assassin Creed 2 which was released not too far when Yakuza 3 was released.
I’m not sure people care more about yakuza 3 than AC’s most popular entree lol. It’s still a blooming franchise in terms of popularity even to this day
I've now played 0, Kiwami 1 and 2. Will be diving into 3 soon. This video kills me because it's so relevant to me. AC Odyssey is the last Ubisoft game I put time into. Clocked in around 20 hours and I had gotten absolutely sick of it. Being forced to grind side quests just so I can meet the level requirements for the main quests. Wouldn't mind it if the side content wasn't corny and obviously made to bloat the average playtime. So I quit. Shortly afterwards I bumped into Yakuza 0. I've been enjoying this franchise so much. The world is small but so dense. Full of activity where pretty much every building serves a purpose, be it a restaurant, a place for minigames, a bar etc. Whereas AC Odyssey got a scale model of Greece and there ain't shit to do but admire the beauty. And then roll your eyes as you realise you have to climb the 50th vantage point just so you can fast travel to your 200th corny ass side quest.
I don't know what it was about Yakuza 3 is final boss but mine for some reason just seen legitimately intimidating to me like he was actually a worthy adversary for Kiryu. He wasn't like other yakuza antagonist who fight you for a petty reason or "Dethrone" you even though Kiryu isn't even officially a part of the tojo clan as yakuza. Mine sees you as an obstacle and deals with you as such. It was a while sense I played 3 but i remember mine's being a decent challenge not as hard as Richardson but still very nice in my opinion.
Mine was legitimately unhinged, he saw no value on human life, including his own, out of the conditioning he was subjected to by his own circumstances, he literally turned into a psychopath out of necessity, watching Kiryu look after an orphanage when he could've easily taken over the Tojo clan with his strength alone was offensive to him. Mine really is a good foil to Kiryu in his most fundamental aspects and what makes Kiryu the man he is
I wonder, how it happened that the cutscene level in western AAA games is on the same level as budget VN-like cutscenes of Yakuza substories :D I'm exaggerating. A little bit.

It should never be like that but w/gaming journalism and Internet these days, everything are sarcastic and toxic negativity everywhere. Glad to see that Yakuza get you back on loving video game and hope you will continue to enjoy more games then. It's different experience for me as I left the Yakuza series long ago because now, they're not that much different than other big companies milking the series until it dried. I don't regret not looking back on this series, they've had their chance and time.
I actually love Yakuza 3 and the stuff with caring for the kids; if it's the "weakest" series entry, all I can say is you're talking about a hell of a series there
It's just the expectation and the premises for both series are vastly different. And based on their progress, and how they progress it, one has a better chance to establish something more sturdy, without putting too much into it. And that's already their success, on their own term, condition and standard.
And yeah, Yakuza 3 isn't the weakest for me. The weakest would be 4 and Dead Souls but I gonna go for the former as it's a main game. Having 4 playable chars when the mechanics and minigames and scenery are mostly the same just dilluted the game so much. 3 at least give me feeling something upon the end, 4 is a blank state. It feels like everything had to be "innovative" and "new" given the limited yearly-release development time that nothing is in-sync or on-point with anything in that game. It's not really thought-out to be something special at all.
They also have an advantage of being smaller games. No need to create a boring and giant open world, if you can create a smaller one packed with more content.
Say what y'all want about yakuza 3 That was one of my favorites I liked playing the dad simulator I loved those kids And I also loved making Kiryu eat worms

The idea of Yakuza reusing assets, with little redesign and giving players a plot where they still in the same city, is brilliant idea.

Such an absurd series as Yakuza wouldn't feel as grounded in the real world if it wasn't about people fighting and living in a specific part of the world.

RGG making a new story with an emotional roller coaster while reusing the same assets vs Ubisoft creating different assets with the same story with barely anything to make it interesting
Modern ubisoft you mean
that dynamic intro always go hard no matter which game 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
As someone who used to hate video games after growing up, I have to say that Yakuza is the one thing that pulled me back in. It’s that powerful. Started at 0 and I’m on 4 right now (definitely my favorite next to 0), and I can’t put into words what I feel about these games. Man bravo RGG studios.
Sorry to hear that you somehow hate video game after you've grown up.
Wonder which is the underrated one
neither. i bet odyssey is okayish game and yakuza 3 has amazing story but atrocious combat and its placed at right spot by fans.
I love how you only show the user score to make it more accurate
The difference in how much passion you have for what you create
And that's not necessarily true or revolve entirely around that one point tbh.
Say what y'all want about yakuza 3
That was one of my favorites
I liked playing the dad simulator
I loved those kids
And I also loved making Kiryu eat worms
Wait what? Where'd you get that sidequest 😂
@@anamggss its not a sidequest
You can find worms around the orphanage
and Kiryu has the option to eat them
For some reason 😄
Yeah im playing 4 right now and I just found out you could eat the worms.
There are more things you can do in kamurocho than all the large worlds in every ubisoft games combined
One game was made by people that were devs by title. One game was made by actual devs.
Average Capitalist vs Real Artist

RGG studios fuild their soul with passion

@@speeddemonji9547 what about you Vergil your also a psychopath but because of your motivation memes everyone forgot about you being a villain
@@justarandombluebird8222 I’m one of the few people that doesn’t forget Vergil’s atrocities lol, but a psychopath? He’s not characterized as one, but mine is.
Mine literally goes on a psychopathic rant about those who depend on others, extending right up to other orphans, literal children or a coma patient who survived a murder attempt, and he needlessly but intentionally oversees the destruction of an orphanage and the assault/attempted murder of two young men and an old guy. And despite his betrayal and near murder of him, he goes insane whenever someone badmouths his precious daigo and ruthlessly puts a knife through one of his own subordinates hands.
Vergil… has sociopathic tendencies but is not characterized like a psychopath Kek, as he clearly feels remorse, a deep love for his mother and brother, and doesn’t personally kill anyone except Arkham. Most of his kill count is just reckless collateral thanks to his own selfish desires but not downright *malicious.*
@@speeddemonji9547 Its still sad though, Mine genuinely thought he was doing what was best for Daigo but Kiryu proved that his his cruel and jaded mentality really did isolate him from making genuine connections, meaning that all the vile crap he did was for nothing.
No wonder the dude tried to fly in the ending.
What passion and soul does to a man
Quantity aproach VS Quality aproach
Strongest Ubisoft game is probably Sands Of Time and it's an absolute masterpiece. There's also Beyond Good And Evil, Rayman Origins.
I was playing Sands of time earlier and man it's aged badly.
If the weakest entry was peak, I cant even fathom the more quality releases

And yet IGN has rated most every fucking assassin's creed game above any yakuza game. What a joke.
can't believe a game as simple to fistfighting everyone you come across would be the same game that gets emotionally-driven in later parts of the story it has.
Would be a fair fight if it was Rayman legends, but Ubisoft is too busy churning out assassin's creed to remember they own Rayman.
ikr, Rayman is goated
Isnt rayman about to be in a rabbids + mario dlc(which was already a good game)
@@z-chan946 forgot about that. With the dlc and the leaked Rayman 4 prototype, it feels like the stage is set for a new 3d Rayman game this decade.

"Wow, they put more love into these minigames than Ubisoft did for their main game loop" ~ Me playing Yakuza 0 as the first entry in the series, 2023
Ok but Brotherhood or Blackflag are the actual best ACs…
Ac1 to syndicate are good games after that it's downfall of Ubisoft
@@asmitsharma70 I've only played AC black flag, but I feel like Unity is when it started getting bad. Unity had great gameplay and customisation. But it had a bloated, copy and paste, boring open world and a story which was confusingly told and unengaging. Also the facial animations for expression was not great - I think AC Black Flag had those issues too.
Unlike Ubisoft, RGG actually puts a lot of heart and care into their games despite the reuse of assets they manage to feel like a different game each and every time.
Even if Yakuza 3 is my least favorite right now (still gotta go through 4-7) I still think it’s a good game worth playing.

As a former Ubisoft fanboy(not anymore), your mockery of Ubisoft in the video is 100% justified and your clarification in the pinned comments is completely unnecessary. Not only does Ubisoft fully deserve the clowning you gave them, I would personally argue that they aren’t being clowned on enough. I pre ordered Ac Unity, Watch dogs and The Division, and those decisions burnt me more than Nishiki’s betrayal in Kiwami.
I thought The Division was fun
And watch dogs 1 and 2 were fire. It was legion that felt eh
Thing is, even though 3 was the weakest Yakuza, I still think the game overall SLAPS! There isn’t a single game in the series that I can say I disliked playing.
