Kiryu is literally not human, the man can consistently tank everything they throw at him and at some point it stopped being plot armor and just straight up "you can't kill me"
Honestly I think it was kind of weird they did the intro this way. I feel like Ichobans main thing is muscle, but he lacks technique. I feel like a better intro would be Ichiban throwing a punch before Kiryu immediately counters it.

One of the hardest moments is watching how many shots Kiryu takes in Yakuza 6 as he protects Haruka

Me too. Like, if I'm not mistaken Kuroiwa is the only main boss in the entire franchise that pulls out a stunt like that, right? I don't remember any other boss fighting you immediately after you beat him down (except Arakawa, but you can easily beat the shit out of him in both fights).
