I just love how it's Majima's missing eye looking at Kiryu at the corner of the hallway
I just wondering if he can see kiryu
IIRC they had to swap the eyepatch to his right eye in the live-action film (as he's usually depicted with his left eye patched) because for the actor who portrayed him, his right eye didn't work as good as his left so it would've been a problem if they kept the eye-patch how it was in the games.
Also, the film's usage of Majima predates Kiwami and its Majima Everywhere system by like a decade.
He has superpowers cos of the hannya man on his back

I feel like kiryu didn't have enough strength, or he didn't land it right. In order for it to be effective you've got to hit the solar plexus, which is around the belly area I think.

There's actually a reason why they did that.
The actor who played Majima in the movie is actually almost completely blind in his right eye, so they had him wear the eyepatch over his right eye.
Good news is if they ever do that in the game all they need to do is have him peek from the other side of the hallway.

If there's one thing the Yakuza series does amazingly, its that they know exactly what energy they're going for, when they want it, where they want it, & not only do they not backpedal on the absurdity, they double down on it while still making it both make sense & cool.
so fun fact about majima's first appearance. as you may or may not know, Mark Hamill voiced him in the english dub. however, when asked about it, mark hamill has absolutely no recollection about it. and for some reason i feel like that's just a very majima thing

Ngl even tho the translation was bad Mark Hamill was a good fit for majima.
He did hundreds of roles, there's no way he would remember every role, specially a very niche game like that where they probably didn't even saw how the character looks like (at that time, it was common the voice actors for a video game dub only having access to the sound files).

I honestly prefer Ichiban as a protagonist over Kiryu. I love Kiryu don't get me wrong but Ichiban seems like more of a relatable character to me.

It's kind of like Jojo.
You don't watch/read Jojo because Jotaro is relatable, you watch it because he's badass and cool and sometimes that's all we need in a protagonist.

Unadulterated, concentrated, Triple-B tier schlock. The absurdity balanced with humor and drama, all mixed with precision and baked to perfection. A series that has earned the love it recieves.

i've never played yakuza, why is there a baby man and why do i love the eyepatch guy?
I know I'm 5 months late, but the Baby Man is a guy whose fetish was to be treated like a baby, and pretty much kidnapped people in order to try and make them like it as much as he did. In the end Kiryu beats his ass and tells him that he can't force people to be into the same fetishes he has, if I remember correctly
And eye patch guy's name is majima and your not alone everyone loves this guy he is basically the main rival of kiryu he follows kiryu around fighting him and he does it in the strangest ways
I still lose it every time i see the baseball clip. Kiryu just yeets fhe bat like he's actually trying to kill him and the cut makes it so much funnier
Yakuza knows its a story rich world, with memorable characters. And isn't afraid to make it ever more fun. They nailed the humor they were going for.
That part where Kiryu catches the rock before it hits the shiba and then throws right back at the guy warms my heart.
