I think Randy could design his whole line of baits and still have to modify them after :) anyway thanks for the tips Randy
I've still got tru turns that I've had for years and they do work.
I just finished bending a few ewg hooks to try. Great tip Randy!
Thx man
I love tru turn hooks. When I buy a pack I sit down and sharpen them immediately. Thanks for the tips Randy.
Thanks Randy 👌🙌
WOW ... JUST ALL THESE LITTLE THINGS.. GOTTA LOVE IT.. THAT'S LIKE THE OLD TRU-TURN HOOKS ... JUST A LITTLE OFFSET.. THANKS RANDY...
Great tips! You will lose a lot of fish if you don’t modify the EWGs like this. I like to bend the EWG hook points up a little as well to get the point above the eye. Helps a ton!
Good stuff. Learned the Texas rig technique with Tru-turn hooks. Loved em back in the day.
That EWG trick was a new one for me. Thanks, as always great tips
I've seen tests where hooks are bent using pliers & then pressure is applied to imitate hooksets. The bent hooks break off right where the pliers grabbed them, due to the slight scoring in those spots.
I’m amazed at all the simple things to do/try that I didn’t/don’t think of. Thanks Randy!
I hope you a writing an illustrated book with all these tips and tricks.
Thanks again Randy. Its all in the details. All these little things you talk about add up to lots more production on the water. Thanks for sharing these tips!
Glad to help
Thank you! I’ll definitely be trying this as well as store the idea in the knowledge box. BTW I agree with you on the wide gap, I don’t particularly like them as well as other straight shank hooks. Again Thank You Sir! Watching in East Tennessee
Nice tip on bending the Wide Gap hook to the side for flipping. I'll try that technique this year.
Randy you’re spilling all the beans man. Another great video!!! I think I read or saw Aaron Martens discuss modifying his drop shot years ago. I have been modifying all my hooks since then and my catch rate has definitely increased. Never tried it on my crankbaits though. Thanks I appreciate you and all your great content.
VMC hooks come with a 3 degree offset like you shown in the first example. The amount they add I feel is a good middle ground to use every day between what you showed and a straight one, but the amount you showed is great for when those fish are hesitant.
Stopped using EWG hooks years ago. The hook up ratio on the straight or offset worm hooks just seems so much better.
I still use the Tru Turn hook as a wacky rig hook to this day. They are razor sharp and penetrate super easy due to the thin diameter of the hook and I found my catch rate went up! Good video as usual thanks for the tips!!
Love the tips sir
Great Tips Randy. I'll definitely try the hook modifications. I'm sure that will hook more fish easily.
I love the Channel because I Learn more all the time. Thanks Brother.
Good stuff randy
Thanks Randy for the hook tips Randy I know you're a busy guy can you do a video on swimjig fishing when, where and weather conditions for this technique thanks again your pal fisherman Mike
Yep!
Info I’ve never thought of
You've been in the fingernail polish on your right hand! By the way, I am now a believer in red fingernail polish!
Man I wish I had seen this before Saturday past.... I missed 4 keeper fish on an ol’ bass assassin bait on Clarkshill could have been in top 5 with just one of those extra fish🤷♂️. MLF CO ANGLER
Randy you gotta do a review on the Megabass Slash Plus Head and Swimbait
Randy, I agreed with you by bending the hook point out that you will hook more fish. However, if a fish takes it deep, the danger is the fish will be hooked much deeper and that's not good for the health of the fish.
Great info but I think this is can't have your cake and eat it too situation. Bending your hooks out may increase hook ups but it also makes it easier for the fish to spit the hook. Like Randy said, it all depends on how the fish are eating on any given day and it also depends on the gear you're using; if the fish ain't pinned you may be in for some heartbreak.
When I was a kid of about 8 or 9 , I got tired of gut hooking bream . So I got to thinking and bent my bream hooks into a semi circle so that I wouldn't gut hook the fish anymore , after catching the first few fish all caught in the side of the mouth , I couldn't believe that it worked so well no more gut hooks , just knew I had reinvented the " wheel " and was going to be a millionaire with my new hooks , that was until I found out all I had done was make my straight shank bream hooks into Circle hooks ...... lolol .
I have seen this modification before and it does make a difference! Thanks for sharing this with us and it looked like those treble hooks on your crankbait looked like gamakatsu hooks? I use their treble hooks on the in line spinners that I make and use for replacement trebles on crankbaits. Just curious if they are. :)
I still us tru turn worm hooks.
Some VMC hooks come like that. I know the fineness neko hooks do for sure.
So for a straight offset worm hook, you’re saying those should not be messed with? It is the way an ewg is bit that the offset works well?
Do you modify your straight shank hooks when you flip plastics? Thanks Brah!! Love your channel! Plan on using all your tips this year!!
Not usually
I'm no pro or do all the crazy color/ combination stuff and all but alot if this stuff.. this being one. I already do. Just wondering if I could make the higher level if I had the means. Good on local lakes. . Do better on uncharted waters. Guess we'll never know. 2 kids and I just can't afford
I loved TRUETURN!!!! But I cant find them anymore.
