ZBRUSH TO SUBSTANCE PAINTER (TIPS & HACKS )

  • Exporting sub-tools from zbrush to substance painter is one of those things a couple of artists may find a bit tricky to do especially if they have to texture in a third party app, today we would take a look at a very simple work around that and also share a bit of a tip on how you can easily work around sending your models without exporting.

    Nice tutorial speed here. I never tried to UV a ZBrush model but it works pretty well! With Substance it's better to fill or use smart materials and masks instead of hand painting, especially for flat-color. Thanks!

    I can't think of anything I'm doing wrong, but when I open the file on substance my subtools are combined in a single texture set and it's driving me kind of mad. Any common causes for this problem?

      if you cant solve it, maybe you can go through a 3d model program such as maya or blender and apply different materials to each piece, that should work

    fbx export has a bug...
    its so often u cannot export only visible subtools or all subtools... it can only export the selected subtool.
    but after u save the ztool, and reload it, the bug is gone.
    also i think fbx export doesnt work with grouping subtools. i often fail with group export.

    This tutorial is great! but I am still confusing about Hi&Low poly models, baking tex and darwing in painter with hi poly model, but what to do with low poly model? can anyone explain to me?

    This video help alot, but I have a different problem!
    I have no problem exportin my FBX file to Substance Painter but I cannot save the SPP file
    When I try to save it reminds untitled/readonly

    But to do when i have very high poly model with many parts? What about baking and all that stuff?

    But what if you want all of those objects to come into substance with only 1 texture set ?

      You can merge the whole subtools after uv-unwrapping and exporting.
