3:45 It depends on the way the object is rotated. The pillars aren't perfect rectangles, each surface is unique. If you rotate it, you should be able to find the side that clips over the 45 degree one.
It might be a bit late to comment this, but the reason some beams line up "behind" is because they actually are. The lineup system has 2 faces, the back and the front of the wall. If you did this from inside you'd probably have a better lineup. Atleast, that is what I've noticed in my gametime.
There is a mod called Buildshare I highly recommend. You can import anyone's build and at a minimum it is a great way to start getting into more complex builds. Also, it would be a way to export the builds on your channel if people want them without the hassle. Pro tip, you can spawn builds off the ground and they will fall apart and drop all the materials in front of you, set the Y axis spawn to 5 or higher.
I really find your building videos helpful and they made my building in Valheim much more enjoyable. Right now my second base is the round house from one of your videos, only I added a small adjacent square room for crafting, because I prefer having my workbenches separated from the "living area" (I covered the entrance with a banner, so the additional room stays more or less hidden and overall that's the first build I'm very proud of). I'll defnitely use the tips from this one, too.
I believe that when you turn the beam it changes the depth of it causing it to clip differently from the other side, but that is a guess based on things I have experienced during my own builds.
The best understanding (read: educated guess) I have for why one beam was on top and the other behind is that there are a number of very slight variations in the 3D "art mesh" on every structure piece to help combat repetition and, more importantly, z-fighting. You can see this when you go to place a bunch of beams side by side and each comes out slightly differently. Z-fighting is that weird flicker you see when two faces of a 3D object try to occupy the same space. You can see it by building overlapping sign objects, for example. The subtle variations in the art mesh of things like beams and poles helps to combat this -- though it isn't perfect. I haven't figured out a way to influence what version of any particular structure piece, and will let you know if I do. :)
I love your ideas, can’t wait to see interiors. Random thought for your 100 day challenge: I know you’re anti trader, but the circlet would make it easier for us to see at night and easier for you to build at night.
yea I thought about that but I have just been using a filter to brighten things up not just what is in front of me. You all still having issues seeing in those videos at night?
@@Firespark81 I mostly watch you vids on a tablet, but I can usually follow along but more light is better. I just recently got my Dverger circlet and was night building, and it was so much easier to see where things were snapping. Since you're not sleeping, I thought of your series. You probably won't spend much time in crypts or tombs anymore, so it's not such a big deal in that sense.
Absolutely love the video and build! I have not played in a while due to the lack of content and patiently waiting for Hearth and Home. I personally like builds that are architecturally realistic and inviting. Awesome job! Keep up the amazing content!
Thank you so much for the awesome tips for builds prior to the Iron and Stone ages! It's fun to play Valheim the way it was intended, without God mode, but still be able to have good looking buildings. Nice looking house!
Instead of torches, you can also use the 1M beams, place an item stand and use something that glows. Like meads, yellow mushroom, Swamp key. Doesn't give as much light but highlights your path.
So many cool ideas. I've got grass and trees in a little park area in my base but I never thought about flowering crops, decorative cart boxes or using the crafting station upgrades. Great video!
I love your videos, and I love how you teach. When you decorate to pretty up your thumbnail why not add that in the video, too? Seeing you decorate and listening to your thought process as you do would be a nice touch.
As I noticed so far, the offset position of poles and beams are due to rotation. When you rotate a piece of wood on its own Axis it goes sideways a bit. And also noticed some times if you're not building aligned pointing north it gets messy to snap and start to show issues like the one in the video there.
There's some crazy cool decorations done even without admin commands, like placing the tiny stools next to each other to create a large window with x shaped grill. Appropriate the sections of vanilla and admin. 👍
Dude...You gotta stop telling me to like, sub, and hit the bell. I've already done all three! Love the content, would dig an interior focused video! Keep it up, bud!
My theory for the overlapping snap points (to many snapped) and something to do with structural support. Meaning after the post was placed, snapping to the top of the post instead of the 23* wall. This will provide a slight space in-between the 2 beams and they are lined up properly. Sometimes I have had to remove the wall or structure I was overlapping, place post, place beam, then re-insert wall, issue solved. When we try to occupy the same snap point we get very slight deviations. Edit: P.S. I don't explains things well, sorry in advance, just know how to solve the problem :) Verified, fixed the issue.

Yea if I'm just playing decorative stuff is the last thing on my mind. But I know many people love this sort of thing and it does make for a nice thumbnail. :)
Great vid! Lots of inspiration. For some reason I had a rather strong emotional reaction to the placement of the bush at the end, and really feel it should have swapped places with the blueberry bush to the left of it. Thus - perhaps - not covering the shield on the wall, which in the screenshot now was hidden. Yeah, you'd have some bush symmetry going, but it would be like the ONE thing that was symmetrical in that visual, which Im sure would have worked 8-)
Woa those spawn items are a nice touch, def going to try that out. Hopefully they add a way to craft and plant some of those things normally but for now, that works.
Nice, I like your micro buildings. They are pro. Hey you should do a video that shows people spawn codes for a wider variety of landscaping and decorative items that aren't available through vanilla building. Me I love playing this game no codes for nice day to day survival feel but as soon as I know I can spawn something awesome in and spawning is the only way, I gotta try it... Training dummies for example... Now that I've seen berry bushes spawning in, I might have to do a little homestead dedicated to berry farming, lol.
Hey FireSpark81, thanks for the video on how to gussy up our builds! Two quick questions though, 1. Are you still looking for seeds with Maypole's? (I got lucky with a random seed) And, 2. Do you still care about the numbers of Surtling Cores found in Burial Chambers? Both questions relate to mentions you have made in various videos, but I've watched most of your Valheim content so I have no idea which ones now... Thanks for all the content, tips and tricks, it has been super helpful in my playthrough!
I think your clipping issue is the order of assembly. do your frame/decorative beams first. working from the ground up all the way around. Then clip in the wall fillin
Love your stuff @firespark81. So I've been thinking about using wooden detailing on the outside of stone structures as kinda damage absorption crumple zones on cars. My elder temple base has a 4 story castle build tied in to the temple pillars to give foundation strength to the stone. I wonder do building pieces take different damage or resist damage of they're foundation pieces? I guess not. Anyway, I've been raided by trolls and swamp and they do a lot of damage to external wood which soaks damage that would otherwise go through to the stone walls. Similarly in a micro base build when I came to the elder temple I built a 4m core wood cube Portal base with a wooden palisade and it got immediately trashed by the local trolls. I rebuilt, but armour clad the cube with double thickness wood walls, a double thickness floor tile ceiling layered into the roof and the resilience of the structure was increased in terms of resistance to raid damage. It's a good way to protect your portal toehold base in a new biome or on a new island where you have no proceedural building handy. I'm also keeping the portal bases like in the swamp on top of the crypt, minimalist, no bed and even destroy the workbench leaving a fire chest and portal there so it's raid proof by not triggering a raid by not having 3 base elements 😉
I saw this video entirely too late. Is there a way to spawn the boss altars? I really love the look of them, but I want to use them creatively without having to build on top of their natural location. If anyone knows the commands, please do share!
