    For outposts, I turn almost all the generated home/tower structures into outposts - so in the end I have a network of safe places to sleep and store the more common items that I passively pick up in my journeys without wasting them (like feathers, flint, stone, wood, herbs, food, etc). It also makes the world feel more alive. Each place looks like a lived in homestead, rather than a rundown mess. I like that I can break the tediousness of scenery easily without putting in too much effort to at least be safe when traveling to said new place.
    I make sure there is at least a workbench, bed, chest, and campfire with 1-3 spits so that it's ready to go at a moments notice down the line.

      I skip the bed (if I used the mod that didn't force you to switch spawn points I'd use one) and campfire, since that means that the event attack could happen targetting that location for no good reason, and that's a pain in the butt. Not worth it. I do convert the ones that are usefully located, though, be they either situated on the coast or far enough away from other rest spots that I can use it as a breathing location. It also depends on the rarity of the location; if it's one of those tiny swamp shacks on the surface of the water, HELLS NAH. Stilt house? Okay, lemme fence it off, though. Small square tower dotted everywhere in the Black Forest? Nah, just a little rest stop with a workbench (keeps the mobs away at least). Larger stone tower, or squat crumbling tower, or dilapidated stone castle ruins? HELLS YEAH!

Like if you already raided a burial chamber or crypt use the cross out feature to make sure you know that for the future. @@vVGolemVv Four boxes that have no weight at all and get flung off with even minimal movement of the ship due to waves, and that break very easily and, if they do, you lose the contents just like that. While it works out better for the Longship, since it has a lot more floorspace and resists tumbling in choppy water much more easily, so even if it does roll the boxes aren't likely to go flying and carts are a lot harder to keep on the boat safely, with the Karve the cart's handles fit around the mast perfectly while still butting up against the rear gunwales of the ship, in front of the rudder.
      There's also no real reason to break your ship, too; just place a workbench to stop spawning within the area, and wall off your dock area a decent way around it and also a fair ways out into the water (use core wood poles to go down 4m as bracing, to still support the walls) using the palisade walls. Without a fireplace there, it doesn't get recognized as a node to be invaded by attack events, and the workbench will stop enemies from spawning in the area in the first place, while the walls will prevent them from randomly walking up to it from outside the area and starting to attack it.
      It's really simple to toss down a workbench and then wall it off really quickly upon landing in a new area, too, almost always with just local resources; Black Forest is everywhere, after all, and you can easily harvest some core wood in the surrounding area to where you want to make the dock, if you don't just set up a teleportation portal and grab some from your base back home, anyways.

    I will say, in regards to the map marking tip - put a limit on it. I was marking everything food related on the map I play with my friends, and letting them mark the ore and stuff, and with only doing the berries and mushrooms, my map turned into a mess of dots so quickly I eventually had to clear them all off because I couldn't see anything any time I zoomed out.
    The game really needs a "hide markers" toggle, and if there is one, I have some how missed it.

    Avoid over-producing and hoarding. I'm playing a character where I'm now in Iron age yet I still have over 100 Tin ingots in storage. I'll never use them now. All that time and labour I wasted, not to mention the wood and coal for smelting which I could now be using to process my Iron. When you start a new age (like getting into Bronze, for eg), use the Forge to check which Bronze items you are going to craft. Then add up how many resources you will need to craft them. For upgrading the items, check the Wiki. That way, you can get a good ballpark for not only the total amount of copper and tin you'll need but also the supplementary resources like Leather, Deer Hides, Fine Wood and so on.
    Also avoid hoarding resources with minimal uses. Trophies are a fine example. You need Deer trophies to summon Eikthyr and craft/upgrade the Stagbreaker but almost all other trophies are only for decorative purposes. Likewise you will encounter a LOT of skeletons in the game but the Bone Fragments they drop aren't used for many purposes. So once you've built up a stockpile of say 50, you can confidently stop picking them up.
    At the other end of the scale, NEVER walk past Thistles without picking them up. They are used in many products and are not so abundant in the wild. Even if you build up a stockpile of 150 Thistles before you unlock the crafts that use them, keep picking them up because you WILL use them.
    Finally, prioritize the order in which you build items when entering a new age. If you have just started Iron, for example, is it better to build an Iron Axe, armour piece or Huntsman bow with your first consignment of Iron ingots? I always go primary weapon(s) - shield - armour - tools in that order. Doing more damage and having better defenses (shield and armour) can be life-savers but cutting wood with an Iron Axe rather than Bronze makes only a small difference.

    • @porous9
      @porous9 3 года назад +3

      Also prioritize your arrow usage. I always carry Wood arrows along with whatever higher damage arrow I choose. If I'm hunting deer, using Fire or Poison arrows on them is a waste. Use your cheap Wood arrows for wildlife that gets one-shotted regardless of what you use, save your higher value arrows for enemies where the extra damage will count.

      There are plenty of mods out there that make use of all the "junk" items you mentioned. Once you kill the last boss, mods are really the way to get more game time out of Valheim and you'll end up kicking yourself for not hoarding every drop.

      I find that I need more early ores after I beat Yagluth and just started building more. Tin, for example, is needed for more cooking pots if you end up making a bigger base or a base in a new location. Sometimes sourcing it isn't easy locally near the world's edge so you'll have to ship it from home. Same for bronze and iron even, as many small swamps will only contain small scrap piles you have to dig up that hold very little ore.

    • @porous9
      @porous9 2 года назад +1

      @@brodriguez11000 yes, you can put the different arrow types in your quickbar slots. In late game, I usually put Fire arrows (Drakes, Wolves, Abominations) in slot 1, Frost arrows (Fulings) in slot 2, Wood arrows (everything else) in slot 3. Then you can swap them on the fly. For the Moder fight, I have Obsidian arrows in slots 1 and 2, Poison arrows in slot 3. Then I hit 3 when she spawns, fire one Poison arrow, then hit 1 or 2 to switch to Obsidian arrows as the Poison DoT ticks down. As soon as that happens, I hit 3 to fire another Poison arrow, and so on.

      That said, I actually did test it out. Using Draugrfang and the Huntsman Bow, I shot both with wood arrows, and obsidian arrows. I couldn't see any significant difference between any of the 4 combinations.
      However, there seems to be a chance to get more hides and/or meat than the normal 1/2/4 for level 1/2/3 deer. This chance might depend on either the Bow skill level, or the point of impact of the shot, or both.
      It could also be that my sample size was not large enough (killing 10 deer of each level per combo). Further testing might be recommended - maybe with 100 kills per combo?

    Is there always a chance of there being a maypole on any meadows region no matter what time of year it is? Kind of like there's always the yule hat at the trader all year round? Maypoles being a midsummer thing etc.

    I stash the ingots required for a forge on my boat whenever I head into the next biome. You will have to carry ingots back for construction and such but you can usually upgrade your current gear so stand a better chance against the new biome.

    You might not be able to teleport with ore, but you can switch worlds with it. Mine ore in a disposable world, while sitting at your home base in your world. When you log into your main world, you have all the ore and none of the travel.

    I usually mark items by this format "POI Island number, POI number" So if I found my 5th Troll cave on the third island I've visited I'll mark it as TROLL CAVE 3.5. usually keeps markings nicely formated and keeps track of what's where.

    If you find the birds are flying away before you can aim at them, hunt them in the rain they stay on the ground longer.

      hmm i never killed birds for feather, cause first of all i used wood arrows, later than during some swamp mining you can find the feathers in the chests.

    thanks for the tips! For #3, I actually didn't know how map markings worked, I assumed it was a planned feature but wasn't in the game yet. I tried dragging the marker to a spot on the map, clicking... Didn't try double-clicking, as it didn't make much sense to me. It would have been so useful from the very beginning, so much stuff I wanted to mark on the map...
