People doubt the mpg on the gte but I’ve had one 2 years now after owning many a Gti and I’ll never go back
I remember spending 200 a month on fuel on a Gti I’d nearly get 6 months outta that now in the gte
What average mpg do you get? I got the 2016 golf 1.6 tdi and it claims 60, but driving round city its actually around 35mpg
I get in and out of work on full electric charge either way
But if your dippin in and out of hybrid mode you ll get 92mpg
If you completely discharge the battery you will get 40 plus out of the 1.4 tsi
Fam, imagine if VW make the next golf r a hybrid as well. 4wd, electric instant torque, the sound, the looks. Man that would be the car to have. And an estate oml 😍
Stock the GTE actually has 230hp and 0-100 is around 6.7 seconds.
In hybrid mode the electric motor is limited to 50hp, when tuning it has the full 102hp. And the 1.4TSI is also tuneable so a stage 1 does ~302hp and turns off start/stop system
i've gotten 0-100 6.0 sec with my stock gte

GTi also wins on boot size. 380 litres compared to 272 litres in GTE [ smaller than wife's 5 door mini cooper] plus no spare wheel in GTE.

GTE actually has 226bhp and gets to 60 in around 6.3s. VW have been modest with the figures for some reason.
VW did this to ensure sales of the GTI didn't drop, if the figures were too close between the two surely most would go for the GTE?
I need some more z4 content! Just bought one and picking it up this weekend. It's a 2014 20i with a good spec on it, really looking forward to it. Keep making great content!

Always spinning the tyres so it should be a consideration to put the power through all 4 wheels or the heavy batteries further forward.

Got my GTE 6days ago after a 7month wait. 21 gentle miles on a full charge. After a full charge the display even shows only 21 miles range wtf? Also, CarNet simply does not work. Plus, car sits on its suspension with a full iPhone 8 width between tyre and wheel arch and looks like its trying to be an old person’s crossover. Glad it wasn’t me that paid £35k for it.
Good vid mate. I hire these on Zipcar they are quite a blast. I’d have one anyday over the gti. Because the ability to switch into electric in city driving is fantastic. And very quite and relaxing. Still nowhere near as fun as my z4 3.0 tho ;). And that 1.4 sounds like your ragging a Fiat punto.
gte alday... why dont they have a turbo on the gte engine?
Wonder how the GTE compares to my car which is an R-line with just the 1.4tsi 150 without the electric motors. It still feels pretty quick and it's only half a second slower and a few mph slower
did anyone else have the solvent smell in there gte when it was delivered? i really notice it when i get in on a morning
The 156mpg is more than a little misleading
Great Vid mate, just remember about having at least one hand on your wheel. The 5-0 will be on to you
On a long distance the gti should do better. A hybird carries a lot more weight. A lot of weight a on long journey is not a good thing. The only reason the gte does well on vw's mpg test is that the car is tested under certain conditions. If you are trying to drive the car economically you will most likely only get 60-70mpg. A hybird is normally only better for short distances e.g. city driving.
If it’s mpg that floats your boat get a 5 year old Toyota Yaris diesel.
What about Audi e-Tron / BMW i3 ?
The problem is, REALISTICALLY, the consumptions won't be accurate. Everyday, the GTI will probably get 35mpg (on a good day). The GTE will probably be nowhere near 156mpg. I like the idea of the GTE, as it's more fun than most other hybrids; however, it does still look quite boring. Even the GTI looks a little bit too subtle, in my personal opinion. Nevertheless, great video!

Their numbers are straight out of the VW sales literature so why waste time with this channel? No insight at all.
Greg Worcester thanks for watching the video. Firstly, VW gave us less than an hour to drive and film the car so had no other choice but to use their figures as didn’t have time to get our own figures.

max halliwell you can easily get even better mpg than claimed if you just bother to charge it
I get 199mpg over the last year eg 95% if trips under 25 miles so not bull 🐂 shit per se...

GTE real MPG is closer to 70 - 80 with it having some charge. Typical VW numbers 150+ hahahah good joke VW!
