there are TWO drop down menus one on the LEFT is for notifications and one on the RIGHT is for settings such as rotate(yes there is a landscape option for your home screen without those apps), brightness(which allows you to easily and quickly edit screen brightness), bluetooth, wireless ect. also you CAN highlight and make note with Google books all you have to do is select the text and the highlight option appears at the top with the notes and translator!
You can activate landscape mode NOW without purchasing an app. Go to settings. Scroll down and select accessibility. Make sure that auto-rotate screen is checked, and it should work from there. Hope this helps!
It does come with the capability of turning the screen sideways without aps. You just slide your finger from the top down and there's a little lock with arrows around it. Click on it and it unlocks the feature.
The screen flicker is most likely due to reducing the refresh to simulate dimming. Same concept in used in high end LED flashlights to extend battery life.
you simply tilt it 90 degrees to the side. If that still won't do it, it may be locked. On the top right corner (statusbar) slide the status bar down and in thje center there should be an option for auto rotation
See my Kindle Fire Jelly Bean review. It has the tablet interface as well as the phone interface option. I'm going to post a video comparing the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire with Jelly Bean soon.
hi i was curious which weather widget that is on one of your home screens. ive been tryin to fing a good one like that for my nexus 7. thanks and great review
pull down the right side of the screen, where the battery and wifi is, and it will say rotation lock, it may say auto lock or whatever, click it and it will enable screen rotation. Hoped this helped
That's whats up!! thanks!! i actually side loaded adobe flash and had it working on the Firefox beta browser, but for some reason the flash site that i wanted to check out comes up all pixelated but not with boat browser.
yes, I have the Nexus 7 and I am using Go Launcher EX, works great, very customizable, I have set it up as a sort of clone of my S2, it is perfect for getting familiar instantly :)
At the time of this review, auto rotate in landscape mode was not available on the home screen. It only became available later with the firmware update.
the nexus 7 that i have has landscape mode. you go to the top where you time and battery power are located. pull down and you'll see a rectangle with what looks like two little arrows. click that to unlock and your screen will go to landscape
I'm looking to get one of the updated Nexus 7s very soon. I hope they've fixed the flickering issue. Anyone with some firsthand experience who can tell me if the flicker problem is still there?
it definitely does in a lot of ways, however it falls behind on the screen, if it was the same pixel density as the retina display then it would definitely beat the ipad across the board.
it seems like my nexus 7 has some touch screen issues. most of the time it works, but every now and then i have to tap the screen like 5-8 times for the thing to work. i just got it about 4 days ago and i am debating whether or not to send it back.
FYI I got a nexus for Christmas and it can auto rotate you go in the settings tab and were it has auto rotate locked unlock it lol it probably wasn't out then tho so this is just so people know!
I'd have to think about the 16GB. I might get along with the 8GB. I have a 8GB ipodtouch and I have learned to manage my memory usage with it. I guess the main reason for getting a tablet is the need to upgrade from my iPodTouch. I don't really want an iPad as they are very expensive and I'm not too happy with iOS and apple. I currently use my Ipod for web searches, youtube and social networking. So a tablet is a fair upgrade.
This is how I feel about the Nexus 7: - I fell that it is THE BEST tablet you can buy for $199. - It is out of the league of the iPad, performance and price wise. - Price to performance ratio, it beats the iPad by a lot. All in all, the iPad is the better device, but for being $300 cheaper, that is a definite plus for what you get out of it
This was 5 months ago...When it came out. When it came out you couldn't rotate the screen. Now with the update it had a little while ago it let you rotate the screen.
I just found out today that you can get a thing called USB to go you plug it into the nexus and then your USB stick or other storage device then download a app (sorry I can't remember what it's called) and it makes it so it can open files without transferring them meaning you can keep all your music and films on a memory stick to save space on the nexus I also think thou can store apps on it an
I've been a long time Dolphin user, however i've stopped using it since I got my Nexus 7, I even uninstalled Dolphin and installed Chrome on my Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II 4G phone. :)
I've never really looked at Google Play books (or any other eBook store), but maybe it's an issue of quantity over quality? I know that the Google Play app store has a lot of apps.. but a small majority of them are actually quality..
my dad had acer iconia and i absolutely hate the tablet interface launcher i like the phone type launcher more but mainly cause i know how to use it best
Well the update is quite auto, just like windows on pc. They will prompt you that there is a latest software update and all you just need to do is to click on the 'yes' and it will do all the work. Rmb, it requires internet connection.
It'll have you update as soon as you connect to the internet, if you do not have a wifi connection, head to a store, or restaurant, like a Starbucks, connect, and it'll automatically update
i love it its amazing i brought it....maybe other people who wants to buy this....could actually check other reviews...he actually say a lot of negative things about nexus 7.........
One of the best reviews I've watched on the Google Nexus 7 Tablet...

They are in the tips and tricks post linked to in the description.

Screen Filter doesn't work on sometime. But I been looking for apps to open Nexus 7 came for a while now, so thanks for the apps.
Very good review. Nice speed. No faffing around. Thanks!

The screen flicker is a Tegra 3 power save feature called PRISM. You can disable it with a script or an app but you need to root your device.
Just picked up the Asus Nexus7 32 Gb from Office Depot yesterday for $249.99, and am loving it, by the way the home screen does rotate now.
That's whats up!! thanks!! i actually side loaded adobe flash and had it working on the Firefox beta browser, but for some reason the flash site that i wanted to check out comes up all pixelated but not with boat browser.

Hi Nathan,
Could you do a video on "rooting the nexus 7" please. Preferably "for dummies"
try notification toggle for the quick adjustment like brightness and gps ect.
At the time of this review, auto rotate in landscape mode was not available on the home screen. It only became available later with the firmware update.
great review and tips. would be nice if you could do a video when you root the nexus
when is nexus 7 available in stores ?
hey , what about playbook ? i mean if BB10 update comes to it , will there be apps and all other cool stuff ?
the nexus 7 that i have has landscape mode. you go to the top where you time and battery power are located. pull down and you'll see a rectangle with what looks like two little arrows. click that to unlock and your screen will go to landscape
how did you get book covers on your homescreen?
That last update from google now has the landscape option built in.
Is it worth buying now or is a new one on the way?
@GingerPhoreLife, got this ta,et And in the settings you can choose it to read to yo so yes it can!
Worth buying? I've been really looking into buying one but I can't officially decide
anyone know when is this tablet going to be on sale at bestbuy?? thanks
I'm looking to get one of the updated Nexus 7s very soon. I hope they've fixed the flickering issue. Anyone with some firsthand experience who can tell me if the flicker problem is still there?
if i use a different launcher will i have to boot up that one every time i turn off my device or does it stay on?
hi, i just bought the apex pro, and set up the screen setting on auto rotate, but it does not work. what can i do?
Have they updated the landscape mode?
can i use launcherpro or golauncher ex on a tablet? i use Launcher pro on my driod eris
Did you film this in the rainforest?
do any of u guys have problem with the small hard drive?how do u get ur movies and music on nexus 7 if u have a big media library
The video was made last year. Back then, when the Nexus 7 first came out it didn't have a screen rotation...
Where did you get the 32 gg and how much did it cost?
how do you rotate it? I just got it for xmas and cant figure it out either
it definitely does in a lot of ways, however it falls behind on the screen, if it was the same pixel density as the retina display then it would definitely beat the ipad across the board.
What would you guys choose: the ipad mini or this one? I don't care about the price difference tho.
Wow, that Tablet beats the Kindle Fire by a LOT! :O . Thanks for the Review!
Just bought the 32gb and its going great guns, nice machine, can't wait to be fully conversant !
it seems like my nexus 7 has some touch screen issues. most of the time it works, but every now and then i have to tap the screen like 5-8 times for the thing to work. i just got it about 4 days ago and i am debating whether or not to send it back.
does that splash top work with macbook pro?plz help...
can u download music off of your computer on to the tablet?
Same here. I haven't had any problems with my home screen changing to landscape. The tablet comes with the auto rotate locked. That might be the issue
Is this accessible? Like could I use an equivalent of iOS's Zoom or a screen reader?
FYI I got a nexus for Christmas and it can auto rotate you go in the settings tab and were it has auto rotate locked unlock it lol it probably wasn't out then tho so this is just so people know!
When will it come out!!?:D
Note that in this review is used Android 4.1 in which could not be the home screen rotation, now in 4.2 is for sure.
Thank you, Nathan. Very useful.
I suggest getting the kobo app and getting an account there, pretty much any and every book you're looking for and even some free ones!
I'd have to think about the 16GB. I might get along with the 8GB. I have a 8GB ipodtouch and I have learned to manage my memory usage with it. for brightness there is an app "Brightness Level". I use it all time
Go to your setting an u can turn rotation on or off.
There a landscape mode in home screen in nexus7 just go to notification on top with the WiFi logo
Nice Video I'm thinking about getting one
If you were to install a different launcher, I'd go with Holo Launcher. It's basically the same thing, and looks exactly like the default homescreen.
This is how I feel about the Nexus 7:
- I fell that it is THE BEST tablet you can buy for $199.

Android 4.2 wasn't out when this was posted.
does the nexus 7 come with $25 credit to use on the google store
Just so you know you can unlock rotation by pulling down your top drop down menu and clicking on the lock to unlock it. No app needed.
It does too have rotation, you just have to slide down the settings bar and hit autpo rotate
I just found out today that you can get a thing called USB to go you plug it into the nexus and then your USB stick or other storage device then download a app (sorry I can't remember what it's called) and it makes it so it can open files without transferring them meaning you can keep all your music and films on a memory stick to save space on the nexus I also think thou can store apps on it an
you probably already had a reply about that, but the unlock button doesn't work for the launcher.
I've been a long time Dolphin user, however i've stopped using it since I got my Nexus 7, I even uninstalled Dolphin and installed Chrome on my Boost Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II 4G phone. :)
Landscape mode was added in the recent update for those who read comments
I love the Nexus family but my Nexus 10 rocks, I made the right choice over the iPad.
Have you checked out chameleon launcher. It has an amazing true tablet interface and supports jelly bean.
I think as long as you choose that one as the default it will stay on but i'm not sure.
So is this tablet better than the Samsung seven inch tablet?
I got a nexus and I love it
I've never really looked at Google Play books (or any other eBook store), but maybe it's an issue of quantity over quality? I know that the Google Play app store has a lot of apps.. but a small majority of them are actually quality..
No. If you buy an OTG cable (Google it) you can plug in flash drives or external hard drives
what does rooting mean?
If money isn't an issue definitely get the iPad Mini. Obviously others would disagree but it's just a personal preference.
really helpful - thanks alot
I was referring to Faboking2 when he mentioned Quick Settings,
Will the Nexus 7 read to me?
my dad had acer iconia and i absolutely hate the tablet interface launcher i like the phone type launcher more but mainly cause i know how to use it best
I just got it as an OTA update right now!!!
can i download free ebooks in the nexus 7....?
Well the update is quite auto, just like windows on pc. They will prompt you that there is a latest software update and all you just need to do is to click on the 'yes' and it will do all the work. Rmb, it requires internet connection.
has it got bluetooth ?
This video was posted months before the landscape option was added by Google.
Add a part 2 to the review cause it does landscape or just redo this review.
does it come with the transformers movie
Is it true that if you buy it brand new, it comes with $200 dollars for games and books and music?
but will it blend??
Update: There was a system update some of those small problems he named are fixed. 4.1.2
Make a video of you rotating the home screen. You can't do it. (Without the update)
Now who failed again?
yes in every way possibly except for the fact that it doesn't have a rear facing camera or a micro sd-card slot.
Best review for sure! :D
what about the google voice search
can you watch youtube videos on it?
android version 4.1.2 which is close to coming out will have landscape mode!!!
