2:15 another one I'd add alongside Ernest Scared Stupid is "Making Contact," which seems to have fallen through the cracks of 80s pop culture history. But I watched it recently for the first time in 30+ years and it's still fairly upsetting in a kind of unique way. Partially because it's just a mess of a film, ripping off most of Spielberg's work with a heavy dash of Child's Play, but it kind of veers into Hellraiser 2 territory at the end. It's hard to explain but I do recommend it.

30:22 Actually "The Shinning" novel was partially inspired by a stay at the Stanley by Stephen King but it's not in the movie. The exterior shots were made at the Timberline Lodge in Oregon and the interiors were done on sound stages in England but were inspired by the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite. The Stanley was used in "The Shinning" miniseries years later, though.

I doubt anyone under the age of 35 knows who he is. I'm 39 and I've noticed kids speak as though the the world just phased into existence at the year 2000.

I haven't seen a lot of horror movies as an adult. And haven't been scared of a lot of the ones I did see.
Here's my list in no particular order:
    * A Quiet Place (tense and unnerving and somewhat scary in a few parts)
    * The Color Out of Space (more unsettling and disturbing and gross than "jump out of your seat" scary)
    * Pet Semetary (remake) (not scary but creepy and I appreciated the ending)
    * It Follows (creeped me the f*CK out. Made me jump a few times. And has a great ending/final shot)
Honorable Mention - TV show - Stranger Things
    I couldn't think of a fifth movie

Good episode but I think there should be some improvements. The episode should of been called Top 5 not Top 10. Also I think there should of been some sort of guidelines for this list. It would be cool to see a more definitive list. Scariest movie that you've actually watched and then a separate list for scariest movies that you won't try to watch. You could also do best scary based on set criteria. Also you could do a scary movie tournament style where the community votes

Ive seen some of these. But I'll be making a list of things to watch based on your two top 5s.
    The Paranormal Activity movies
    Hereditary
    Gerald's Game
    Hush
    The Fourth Kind

Oh y'all mentioned Japanese horror. So Heidi will never watch this. Obviously.
But Devin, if you want to know what she means by Japanese horror being next level... Look up AUDITION.
I guess that can be my 5th pick, since my previous comment only had 4.
I forgot about that movie until just now.
    Seem bits and pieces.
Don't know if I'll ever sit down and watch the whole thing.

The new it movies are not scary at all the original TV show scared the hell out of me as a kid but when you start putting too much CGI into a movie takes the horror right out of it

IT was scary as a kid because I was a kid new or old it would of been the same. As an adult IT to me is just a good SciFi

CGI is a tool, just like practical effects/animatronics/etc.
Bad CGI pulls the audience out of the movie. Bad practical effects do the same.
      Good CGI doesn't detract/distract.

    • @cincin0722
      @cincin0722 2 года назад

@@orinanime I agree on that but the image of something that looks like you can physically touch it as a practical effect is much more immersive than a CGI picture that you know that's just not there no matter how clean it is

@@orinanime and I don't mean all CGI using it at the right time with the right lighting works great hence the first Jurassic Park movie but when I'm watching a movie like it and his practical face morphs in to some CGI monster takes it right out for me
