The high reving sound on the red one, is most likely the slipper clutch on the spur gear needs to be tighten a little. And as someone else wrote her, the one way bearing needs to be cleaned from old gummed up oil from fuel. Do that, and add some fresh oil on it, and i think your good to go. Sometimes these nitro engines leak from the front bearings on the engine, and that can be the source of the oil spill you mentioned, or from one of the fuel needles. This can make the tuning much difficult, and leaning out the motor to much. Nice video, and great trucks. 👍
Yes it was the slipper being loose and now shifts into 2nd with ease after adjusting. I'm going to service that bearing before I send it back to my cousin. Thank you.
the revo 3.3 was my FIRST rc ever! I still got it to this day but its all in parts now lol Great video man, i came across it cause im thinking of getting back into rcs and searched revo 3.3. I havent done anything with them in a long time. Great video, i always had a makeshift battery bank to plug the igniter into because that little battery dies fast.
Where your tune was after the first adjustment was much better I have a old school revo I rebuilt It’s got a 4.6 engine and eBay Steele forward and reverse gears. I have never had a 3.3 bed in ever. And Ive owned probably 5 so far. The piston where the con rod mates together is weak Awesome vid dude. Runs perfectly. Ohhh that wasn’t to warm. 230 degrees is where you want the temps to be 170 is to cool. 😎
Red Truck, check the friction pegs on the slipper. If they are good, give it a bit more tension on the slipper. Also, clean the one way bearing on the electric start. If that doesn't work, replace the one way bearing. I personally can't stand the electric start on these, and replaced mine with a traditional glow starter, and pull start.
I just cleaned the one way bearing the other day and it starts right up now. I also sprayed wd40 contact cleaner into the brushed motor and applied bearing oil on the tips of the shaft ends. I also found out the slipper was loose.. I tighten it up and backed it out about 1/4 and now shifting like a king. I'm heading down south tomorrow to return this beast to my cousin so he can enjoy it after all these years of it sitting.
The one way bearing is going out that's why it's slipping when trying to start. I had a Traxxas Tmaxx do the same thing. Changed out the one way bearing and it's grabs start turns with no problem.
Yeah also, you might wanna replace the engines back plate and starter shaft with the new one way bearing. Due to the fact that it to gets worn out. After the engines heat cycles and nitro fuel run time. It will engage and contact with the one way bearing replacement like it's new again.
The starter isn't working because the one way bearing is either dirty or dry. Clean it with brake or carb cleaner and reassemble with motor oil. Mine functions perfectly after doing the same.
Your wands faulty connection is design flaw by traxsas. That connection gets full of dirt when we run these things. I made a plug for mine no more connection problems👍
Just got mine out and running too…was a PITA to find an affordable transmitter for it! I had everything else except that for some reason. It has been almost 10 years for me too.
@@nwirc The same as the factory original (2230). I guess they are still being made, but are $160. I found a new old stock on ebay for $100. I bought a new TQ from a local hobby shop and it doesn't work with the old receiver.
The very first things to be be done on these is, replace the bearings and carburetor. I use the fast eddy bearings, they work great. OS 11k carburetor. Break in 6 heat cycles before putting it on the ground. Thats about it. I have six of these because I like the platform. Nothing in any of mine is traxxas at all anymore. Servos, radio, engine all changed out. Rpm swing arms, the whole nine. Now they are worth a shit. That gear is a easy fix on the ten year old. Slight adjustment clockwise in the transmission. But it sounds more like the slipper.
To answer your question about the starter issue, the wand is where your issue is. If you take the wand apart you will most likely notice a lot of cold solder joints, for some reason 9 out of every 10 of these wands seem to have the cold somder joint issue and will most of the time just cause the glow plug section of the wand not ro work but in sone cases it does have issues like you mentioned. If you decide you want to fix this issue all you have to do is take te wand apart and redo all the solder joints. Good luck
I agree and will lean her out in a upcoming videos. I will get the red one dialed in soon. I do believe the slipper is slipping but who knows. I'll figure it out..
There is dried up oil in the one way bearing. Take it out and put the one way into a cup filled with methyl alcohol. Shake it up and the oil will flush out It will clean out and grab nice. 👊😎
There should be a hole on top of the transmision. Just move the Revo forward until you see the hex pin to make it shift sooner or later. One time I turned it too much and it stopped shifting into second gear. Had to turn it back the other way again.
I just bought a new jato 3.3 and one of the pins for the Ez start was not lining up with the starter so I just bent it with a pick until it worked every time,
Those newer EZ Starts don't always properly seat in the connector on the truck. I had to expand the female connectors in my EZ Start box to get it to properly seat every time.
It's the one way bearing. On the red truck you'll have to take the starter off. But look online or ask your local hobby shop they will show ya. And there is an adjustment on the transition and online or in the manual it will show you how to adjust the transmission for shift timing.
Wow. That is cool. I have the same 10 yr old model. I bought from freind 1 yr ago. I found that you need to prime the motor a little more before starting. I have a pull start on mine. Check your transmitter on the 50/50 or 70/30 setting. Using the 50.50 setting it should shift sooner.if your trans adjustments are good. Cool video.
Oh man that had to suck. I'm not sure about this heat gun I got It's just a cheap $12 one from Amazon. I'm looking into getting a better quality one just in case. Glad to see you got it rebuilt back running.
To the comment on the con rod. I also ran low on fuel while running full throttle, and went lean, and the con rod broke at the piston. And slit in half. And put a hole in the piston, I had a back up motor. So rebuilt it. Just run the car on the rich side. And don't let it run out of fuel. Been running great since then.
The reason it made that sound on the red one is because the one way bearing on the starter motor is slipping. I drilled a super small hole the size of a wd40 straw and ill shoot carb cleaner in it and it will work everytime. Not the best fix but its what seems to work
The connector pins in the truck and starter box are junk. I have one that is 13 or 14 years old and a brand new one last week and they both do it. Still good trucks.
I have a current issue with it not starting found a short in the hot wire (red from the starter) check for contact and damage to wire. Converting back to pull start
