How to fix no audio in Garageband

- I had trouble getting any audio to play in my project after deleting a track that was in "solo" mode. The only way to get any of the audio to play was to solo the tracks I wanted to play, and if I wanted to hear the whole project I had to solo ALL the projects. All I did was create a new basic track and unsoloed it.
I had a different problem but wanted to post it here in case anyone else had it. I am a noob and didn't know what "noise gate" meant but turned that baby on anyway. And of course I want the most good stuff so I cranked it all the way to the max. What this functionally does is mute your track. So if you turn the noise gate way down, it will be a lot better becuase now your track will actually be audible. Wow.
if youre looking for a solution in 2019, just COMPLETELY close it all the way, open it back up and it should work, if not, then restart the computer.

@Gospel Glory : nothing is helping me either... sound just stopped playing from Garageband one day, although if I sent it to iTunes it will play with no problem. What is going on?

Dude. This saved my project on garage band on my iPad. The steps were obviously a little different due to me using the ipad version. But after you explained what you did this made a light bulb go off in my head and and I tried a couple things and boom it worked. this helped me get back the audio on my track. you saved it man! Thanks!

there is no 'Basic track" option to use

Realize this video is hella old but this WORKED, had to create three new basic tracks before one randomly came up solo'd but it actually worked, weird. Thanks a lot my man.
Yes it is old. I came back today to delete it along with this channel entirely. Ironically though it is more viewed and more successful than my current channel that I actually care about lol. I'll leave it up for a while longer, glad it helped!

so everybody who has this problem try finding your audio output and input settings in garageband .... make sure your output on the option it needs to be on ... make sure its not running through a third party app that's not working for some reason and make sure its not trying to detect your interface if u have decided to unplug it !!!!
Absolute genius. You won't believe the relief I have right now. Thankyou so much brother. I had done an epic amount of work and I 'think' I must have done the same thing. Deleted a muted track and the whole experience sent everything in a spin for me. I was sleeping and having nightmares about it after spending ages and ages doing the same things you said you had done. Going through settings and contemplating having to import the tracks onto a new file etc. And I've been using garageband for years and couldn't understand what had happened and why it was being a dick with me all of a sudden. And after going through despair... Because creating a song can get to be like giving birth to something sometimes, like you're making something come alive and this problem? I can't even begin to get into it how ill it was making me.. So... Whoever you are brother. I am so grateful. Thanks so very much. Thanks so much! I accidentally did it with a Grand Piano track and soloed it. It fixed my problem :)

Originally it didn't help me either. I then shut the program down and re-opened the file and the tracks were all active again.

I had this issue but it wouldn't come up under basic track no matter how many I made. Then I tried bring up a software instrument and it worked...you might need to create whatever kind of track you deleted to fix the problem.

My issue was that when I plugged in a new mic a window popped up asking if I wanted to use Display Port for my audio output I barely got to read it and accidentally hit return and boom it was selected. I didn't know how to change it on that project. Settings all said "Built in output" but I made a new project and on the splash screen that popped up I clicked the output box and there it was "Display Port" changed that to built in output and I could hear sound again.

so I just downloaded Microsoft outlook and apparently, that was running in the background and the microphone and speakers were connected to that instead of the Macbook microphone and speakers 🤦🏾♀

Thanks. I similarly was stuck in settings of an abandoned recording. The new one was going mute at 55 seconds. You fixed it. I had faded out rather than solo'd. My version is also slightly different. I went Track>New Track this brought up a Master Track and I could see the fade out at 55 secs. I dragged that point up to meet the rest of the track.

I.ve got the no audio problem. Unfortunately I don't have this track option as my my computer and version of Garageband are the latest versions which looks different from the 2012 version

there no new basic track option on mines,, bummer
So, after opening all of my previous projects, I found the one thing that I had "soloed". Although I have un-soloed it, my computer will still not play the sound on my songs. I have added basic tracks and stuff but it still won't work. Help??

My shit on some kinda lockdown yo
when I open it it says please select an audio driver in the following preference dialog
I click ok and it takes me to audio/midi the output and input are connected to jwbt which is my cars bluetooth (bluetooth is off and not even in range) but it wont let me change and its not letting me create a new track nor new project so basically I can't do a fucking thing... lol I'm really pissed I don't wanna lose all my work if anyone knows a solution PLEASE help me
Plug-ins on garage band for example bass amp/compresser/ tape delay have orange exclamation points on them and can't change those either and when I turn them off garage band closes and says garage band quit unexpectedly and asks if I wanna report or reopen I already reported it but I doubt these dumb fucks gonna respond... apologies for the language but I'm pissed rn please please if anyone knows about this please help
