I'm not surprised. I have been to Sally Beauty a few times and felt the people working there knew little about bleaching and coloring. What a shame. I hope there are more people like you who are truly interested in helping customers.
me too! I also work at Sally's and I'm a little shocked I always recommend the ion bleach to people bc that's what I've used for years and like and I will no longer be recommending that one. 😬😂
I absolutely love that Brad has the awareness that people do diy hair and, sometimes, we just can't afford to go to the stylist but we need that hair change! So, what does he do? He gives us advice on how to diy safely. Thank you, Brad. ❤️
Me too. I want to go to a professional, sure. But that can be SO expensive. It's out of my budget. Plus, I'm visibly queer and it can be hard to know where I will be safe
I used to work at Sally's and the Ion creme lightener is by far my favorite bleach. I have tight coily hair and when I use their creme lightener with their developer and mix in their Absolute Perfection Booster Step 1. I'm telling you if you want to keep your curl pattern intact, use this combo. My hair feels so brittle with other bleaches, but with Ion's cream lightener, my hair barely feels different and it doesn't come out dry. I always recommended these products, especially the Absolute Perfection Booster Step 1, if you're trying to bleach and you want to ensure the health of your hair, it really does work and I never bleach my hair without it.
You should do a part 2 with professionals one for us licensed hairdressers! It would be fun to compare … for example Schwarzkopf BlondMe , Wella Blondor or even the new Moroccanoil one!
@Barenrandombruker 123 You can get the professional lighteners to use at home too, so it could be useful for some people. I used the Blond me, even though I am not a professional, because I wanted to use something of quality and the bleaches in this video are not even in my drugstore :/
@Barenrandombruker 123 You can definitely mix different brands of developer and powder bleach, as you can see Brad does it as well. I am not sure how it will work out though, because I had the powder Blond me as well. Maybe you can do a test strand at the underlayer of your hair first if you are not sure.
ION cream bleach with their sensitive scalp developer is superior to any powder bleach I have ever used. It makes the perfect texture, is easy to apply, and doesn't burn. You don't have the dust issue that you get with powder lighteners, it mixes like a dream, and the smell isn't overpowering.
I totally agree! I use the cream bleach with the sensitive scalp ion developer and it's amazing. My natural hair color is med brown and I dye my hair bright pink and bright purple.
I hated the cream bleach. I have level 2-3 hair and bought some for my roots and they lifted so horribly. not only was it uneven in some places but it also lifted to an ugly brassy yellow orange and I had to rebleach. with my go to, schwarzkopf's blondme, I have always gotten a beautiful lift and the only reason I had gone with the cream bleach was because it was cheaper but that was a mistake.
sooo after reading all these comments i went to sally’s today and got the ion crème lightener and OH MY GOD!! it is amazing. i’ve never had softer hair post-bleach
@@ava9xx3js9j It works so well ur hair basically goes almost white after using it for only like 20 minutes pls only use for max 30 minutes unless it breaks
I've literally bought buckets of all of those bleaches before 😂. I started bleaching and coloring my own hair at 12 . I'm now a licensed cosmetologist and atm my go to bleach is blondme schwarzkopf. My hair is a forest green and down to my butt and the damage is minimal thanks to this bleach😊
I usually use ion cream lightener and it fair well (also pretty strong, but not half as damaging as the powder). I personally think cream lightener should be most peoples at home choice as I find it more forgiving. Never the less; I think you should do another round with cream lighteners from Sally’s. Might find something there.
@@jinxxie9593 That's definitely one thing to consider. Almost all of Ion's products do that for some reason. Even their permanent color swells a bit. Kinda strange.
Here’s my comments as someone who regularly uses Quick Blue. Personally I’ve never had a problem with it being thick or having clumps, but I use more developer. The patchyness totally wasn’t user error, that’s happened to me every time I’ve used it.
i always use Quick Blue and i didn't have an issue with patchiness if i used it on my virgin hair. last time i used it i had long virgin hair down to my butt and pretty much my whole head lifted to the same shade (my roots lifted a little more than the rest but nothing major). my hair is naturally dark brown, almost black. it's only patchy when i have previously dyed hair. so maybe it's just different from person to person?
@@elainasmith1700 I’ve used QB but didn’t like it and felt it was too harsh without consistent good results. After that I used professional blondeme bleach(not from Sally’s) and that worked amazing. It’s better quality and I’d recommend it. It costs more but it’s worth the investment.
(I am a licensed stylist) Personally the ion crème lightener (same one you used but the crème version not powder) is probably my fav I’ve ever used. I’ve learned with it tho, USE A LOW DEVELOPER! When I’m doing highlights, if they’re already light.. i won’t go above 10vol, if they’re darker I’ll use 20… I’ve never noticed breakage with it, it’s usually super even, and a good mixing consistency. Now if I used 30+.. then yes. I noticed damage but if you stick to the lower developers, it’s great.
As someone who uses the Ion bright white creme lightener bleach…i love that stuff, ive never had an issue with it or ever had a handful of hair fall out and i use it quite often. The creme bleach is better than the powder for this product imo.
I agree!!! I think you just really don’t need 30 vol. I always use 10 or 20 depending on if I’m doing my roots or revamping already bleached strands. Like it don’t need that much power haha
I used ion but liquid 2 weeks ago and was AMAZED at how well it did with my virgin hair! I’m obsessed with my pink now! 💖 thank you Brad Ps. I used the ion liquid instead of powder and the ion sensitive scalp, 20vol and it was PERFECT for me
Good to know. I have virgin grey and silver hair with some auburn hair underneath, in the back, and want to use Brad's colors. I'm almost tempted to just use his colors without bleaching, but not sure if I need to strip the grey out first. I've been watching his channel for a couple years now and still feel stupid.
@@cbryce9243 I've used the cream based ion lightener for a couple years on myself and friends, and it leaves my hair feeling the best out of the others at sally's. It's also what they reccomended to me at multiple sally's locations
@@ThatIsra yeah I switched over to the cream ion lightener from quick blue and the amount of lift and the quality of my hair afterwards was such a difference. I only have to do one process with a lower volume and my hair doesn't feel like absolute straw/dry after
I use to love using wella color charm bleach. The smell was great. My hair always felt healthy. I wanted white hair and I got it. It also lightened my dark roots perfectly whenever they grew in. Good times.
@@ChristelVinot Actually, you could be right. I thought I remembered them selling Joico color remover you needed a cosmetology license for in Oregon, but I could be remembering one

Love your videos, Brad. 😘 I would like to add a bit of advice to your viewers who want to lighten at home: DON’T use 30 vol. developers, guys. “Low and slow” is the safest, most reliable way to lighten your hair. The lifting power is in the powder lighteners, the developer just activates them. You can get very bright, beautiful lift with the ION or Wella products, using 10 vol. developer, without the breakage. It will just take time, which shouldn’t be as much of a concern at home. Check your hair after 45 minutes if you’re going for very blonde and reapply fresh product right on top of what’s there to push past those stubborn warm tones. You can do this safely with 10 or even 5 vol. Hope this helps!
Quick blue has been my go to forever and it’s ever given me any problems, I’ve had my hair bleached over 7 times within around 7-8 months and my hair is still extremely healthy. My hair has never fallen out or felt dry, it’s amazing
I've used all of these, and I've now settled on ion's cream lightener. It is a bit damaging but I have super dark hair and it's the only one that lightens enough levels for me
I wish you'd have done prism lites, that's the best bleach at Sally's, available in blue and violet so dark hair starts at blue for a medium lift and violet for high lift, oh and the argan oil cream developer is the best developer they have 😉
I use the Ion Bright White crème lightener with their 20 volume developer and I’ve never had my hair fall out like that and I bleach my hair a lot. I’ve never tried the powder version.
As a Sally employee,I never, neverrr recommend neither the BW2 or the Quick Blue.I usually go for the Age Beautiful that is excelent or the Ion.We have a Step One Booster that is like The Olaplex Step One and I always give that to my clients for bleaching and coloring.Prevents damage and loss of shine. Your review was great!!!
Never tried the powder but I use ion cream bleach and I freaking love that stuff. Works fast and I've done like maybe 2 bleaches with 20 volume along with 2 bleach baths, 2 different times. Hair still feels great. I literally went from blonde, to hulk green, to blonde, to half orange half pink in a span of a week. I couldn't stand the green lol, and I needed it off of my head. That shit did its job lol
This has sold me that i need Ion. I love their colors but never used the bleach. My natural hair is dark blonde but is so hard to lighten. I'm at a level 8 with healthy hair still after 3 box bleach tries. I need something with that extra kick that I don't gotta leave on for an hour.
@me Ashley I say make sure your hair can take it because ion cream bleach will work really fast! Once you see it to the lift you want, rinse immediately so it won't continue to process.
Started bleaching at home during Covid- I’m a BW2 girl all the way! I’ve tried them all, and it does the best and quickest job for me. I definitely open the windows and put a fan in the room where I’m applying- because the terrible dust and smell is REAL. That being said- I’ve got very strong, coarse, level 6/7 hair. For root touch up I like the thick, kind of dry consistency, but definitely rinse and wash twice after bleaching- pre toning. Loved this video! Subscribing now.
I love how I come here for tips on doing my hair but I end up laughing my ass off because you're so entertaining and funny. One of the best RUclipsrs for sure.
I've bleached my hair a handful of times (Using Quick Blue and another one a salon used). In 2020, I bleached my hair using BLONDME by Schwarzkopf and it was the best! It only took 2 sessions + toner to get my Level 2 hair to basically a level 10.
@@ChrisDelAnno Mine swells too but thats normal with this. I did an all over bleach with no foils, 30 volume from the same line (Blondme) and just wrapped my hair in a shower cap sprayed with water which contained the swelling fine
I bleached my hair myself for the first time last month with the wella & 20volume. I only left it on for about 20 minutes. And successfully got my hair pretty dang blonde without changing my curls or fallout :) just be patient and careful with it
@@two.desi_mates any and all bleach is gonna damage your hair. Just don’t use too high a volume or leave it on too long. Your hair’s current health is gonna also effect how damaged it gets. Sectioning your hair is important so it’s not overwhelming (personally I do four main sections, and start applying in the back first) Very THIN sections when you apply it is super important so you don’t miss spots and it looks even.
@@keyiahmcclain4229 thanks and what volume developer would u recommend for black hair? Yes, it's gonna damage the hair you're right. I've virgin hair and I'm not gonna apply to roots. Just will apply on Lower hair so that in future if I'll find out that I don't need it anymore I can't simply cut them.😅
@@keyiahmcclain4229 because of the damage I'm not gonna take risk to apply it to full hair. Just some strands at the back 😅 like highlights u can say 😅
I love BW2. I've never had any problems with it in my numerous bleaching experiences on myself and with friends. Dust is a thing though so prepare yourself once that lid comes off
As a 32 year veteran hairdresser I have tried every bleach on the market. My favorite of all the times that I still used to this day is Schwarzkopf blonde me!
I find this so interesting... even though I left self bleaching back in my 20s and my early 20s at that. I love my hairdresser and she is the only one who touches it with bleach now 😂 I learned my lesson... I have absolutely no talent at colouring my own hair!
My ride or die. When used carefully with the corresponding developer (no higher than 30v) I went from copper to level 10. I did it over a few sessions but still seriously impressed 👏
love this stuff too! I even used only 7 volume with it to touch up my roots and it still lifted so quickly and evenly (i'd say i'm about a level 6 as my natural color). The hair felt pretty good after it as well, which surprised me. it's the first bleach i tried and i don't think i'll try another one :D
Thank you so much for making this video, Brad! It’s sooo useful and informative, I never know which bleach to get when lightening my hair… I’ve always kind of defaulted to Quick Blue mostly because it’s the one I’ve always used. I bought the 1 pound bucket recently and I was shocked at how big the container was vs how much powder was in there! It’s a huge waste, you’re so right; and it does have a very lumpy consistency. However, it’s always done a great job lightening my hair. All I needed afterwards was a toner and I ended up with a beautiful platinum blonde. No need to bleach twice, which is great cuz my hair is naturally pretty dry and having to bleach again would seriously damage it. So again, thank you so much, Brad for investigating this for us. 💕
Not only has Brad taught me literally everything that is worth knowing about hair over the years, but he has given me the confidence to experiment with my own locks 💞 Instead of the usual brown or black, or even a red if I was feeling bold, I'm now going for blues, pinks and greens 😍 and they are stunning! I just wish I could find a way to use Brads amazing waves trick with the iron on short hair without my hair feeling like straw afterwards 😭 It's super frustrating!! No matter what products I use from heat protection, to oils and leave in conditioners, I try EVERYTHING to make it feel close to healthy, but it seems like the minute the irons touch it, I become a scarecrow 🤬 I would love for Brad to do a video on how to help bring hair back to life after it has been damaged 💞
Late comment but I wonder if the temperature has something to do with it. Less heat might dry it out less. Just thinking that your straightener is the common denominator if nothing else is working
So I definitely agree that the ion powder lightener causes damage. The ion bright white cream lightener on the other hand is amazing and has taken my hair from black to platinum with no damage. It does have different oils and other ingredients so I'm sure that makes all the difference
@@echo-ue1xy my first step was using color oops since the black was box dye. It took me to a dark reddish color. Then I used foils and 30 volume, lengths and ends first for 45 minutes then hit the roots. I toned with t18 (I know Brad is screaming at that lol) and it was platinum. I maintained with purple shampoo
Thank you soo much for this video! I’ve been bleaching my hair for 6 years and only have used quickblue, saloncare prism lights, and wella. I’m a level 6 and I lift to a 10. I definitely find the best result from quick blue. But I agree on the waste of plastic on the container, it’s ridiculous! Luckily I reuse the bucket after I’m done, planting, storage etc🤷🏼♀️
When I used to bleach my hair regularly, I always used quick blue with a 20 developer, I've never had problems with clumping but it looks like I used more developer than Brad did. I also never had it in for more than 10 minutes and I would have fairly even lift. I went to a professional stylist and a week later I cut off all my hair due to the damage, breaking and falling off in clumps. The stylist was aware that I regularly bleached my hair and it was just a disaster of an experience. I stick with doing my own hair because of that.
Really I just bleached my whole head by myself for the first time last week 😂😭 but none fell out so I’ll use this for next time Ps I used the wella lightener with 20 and 30V. It lightened my black permanent color to about a level 7/8! I was able to get a neon porange color :)
I recently bleached my hair with ion.... completely agree with the results. I was super cautious with the amount of time I left it on, but it gave me INCREDIBLE lift, much better than wella or loreal. But it was VERY fast and strong, so you gotta be careful of that lol
I don't know where you buy the Wella bucket bleach powder, but where I live that baby cost $12 for the 16oz bucket, which is enough product for lightening the roots each month or every two months for an entire year. For me, it will last two years of evening out the roots only. As long as I keep up the roots, I don't need to worry about over process or nothing like that. It is amazing product and not expensive at all. I agree, mixing is so easy! I tend to use one scoop for 3oz and that is enough to cover 1.5 inch of roots. I am trying to avoid my naturally silver gunmetal hair but I like to even out my silver locks to look more even color as possible. so I try to avoid going too white so when I use the Kiss tintation silver it doesn't look blue and I don't look like a Maiko shark. Anyways thank you for being sweet on the Wella brand and not trashing it so much. People undermined the inexpensive lower price brands at times. People don;t realize that sometimes the cheaper brands are really good products too.
I think Ion Bleach needs a new test to really see what it can do, with the reccommended time IT recommends. It probably doesnt say an hour. And it clearly is powerful. But Id like to see the end result for it when its at its best.
I’ve always used Quick Blue and even though it’s been bleached 4 times, my hair is still healthy. Edit: I’ve also never had issues with it being clumpy, although it looks like I add more developer typically than Brad did.
I’ve only used the Ion Bright White to bleach my hair before and have never had a problem with hair loss/breakage. But I usually use 20/30vol mixed together and not for so long. I’m super scared to over process so I don’t leave it on for as long!! Don’t be afraid to use it, just keep an eye on your hair ☺️
This is the first time ever that I leave a comment on RUclips. I really have to write this. Imagine a world full of brads. It is a world I would have loved to live in. I am completely convinced that the world would have been full of joy and love. Such an incredibly wonderful person. Where can I find someone like you? really need a brad of my own in my life to light up the darker days. Never stop being who you are, it would make the world a much darker and sadder place and given the way the world is today, that says a lot. With lots of love all the way from Sweden❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just like everyone here, ion cream bleach, 20 volume, 30-45 minutes. I do a bleach bath with the stuff on my virgin roots and get them white. You definitely have to know what you're in for, but I'd never use anything else now.
I bleached my hair last week and accidentally ended up with bleach burn for the first time ever, my mistake for putting so much in one place, oops. My scalp is fine now, I looked after it while healing and still being careful. I would love to see this kind of video with UK bleach products, if possible 🇬🇧
Maniquins take bleach so much differently!!!!!! I'm in cosmetology school and we all use the same bleach. Three maniquins lost 45% of their hair with one bleaching and one of mine was bleached 3 times and has decent hair
Brad you forgot the blond brilliance with built in toner bleach. It's really awesome as well..keeps unwanted tones under control somewhat. Love the content and thanks for all you do for us❤️❤️
I use the Ion cream lightener and it works FAST. It bleached out old box color like it never existed. I had it in less than 20 minutes and I was ready to rinse. I'd never use it for 45-60 minutes unless you wanted to melt your skull. On virgin roots it bleached them almost white in about 5 minutes.
I love the ion bright white bleach. However, I prefer the creme one, and if you do use powder- I got my Hispanic friends natural black thick hair to lift to bright blonde with just 20 volume developer after sitting for 40 minutes with no foils or anything. I think their formula is just much stronger then all of the others. So I am not surprised that all the hair was over processed!
I used that Ion (advised by a Sally's employee) but only for 20 minutes and it took my dark red brown dyed hair (naturally mostly gray) down to a lemon yellow. My hair felt great, They did sell me a little bottle of liquid add in, don't know what that was. I had a lot of bleach left so I asked my granddaughter if she wanted to try it on her black dyed hair that she wanted to lighten. It made her hair a beautiful red that she is in love with. She left it for 25 minutes.
My professional salon used one of these on me. Not even to bleach my whole head. She left lifted orange on my hair. Yes, I went from box red to orange and went to have it corrected, because I got scared of truly damaging my hair further. She freaking left the orange in as highlights and toned them beige. White and beige on a cool-neutral. I looked so terrible. Dyed my hair blue and green and the green turned yellow-blonde. I’m so, so, so upset. It’s been a few months and I still hate myself. BW is terrible, Christie and Co (in New York) is terrible. Avoid both like a plague.
Wow I'm sorry this happened to you. I've never been to Christie & Co but I know for a fact that they don't specialize in blond. Tbh if you need corrective color (which is what it sounds like, if u used a box), try to find a stylist who specializes in doing that. If you go into Manhattan, it'll cost u ~$300 but depending on how bad the hair is, that can be worth it. Glad you're happy with yr result now 💞
The quick blue, you're so right about the plastic. I opened it thinking it'd be 3/4 or even 1/2 full, and it was barely even 1/4 full. Makes no sense to make the bucket that huge. Quick blue is what I had used and it worked pretty good IMO.
I've only ever used BW2 and I would always open the windows and hold my breath after I scooped it until the dust settled. But I thought all bleaches did that...... 🤡
I use BW2, I can attest that the scent isn’t great, but I’ve gotten used to it bc I bleach my hair almost every month. My hair is always crunchy after using it, but after washing once or twice that usually goes away. I actually think it’s lightener that sticks to your hair and my hair actually got so dry because I one time I didn’t wash it after bleaching and one section of my hair got so dry and is still drier than the rest of my hair today. And I rinsed my hair 4 times to make sure it was all off. So yeah I can confirm that BW2 stinks bad and leaves hair crunchy, but it is great at lightening tho.
Ive had the same problem with manic panic bleach. I use mostly professional now and i dont have the dryness problem due to the built in conditioner. Ion is actually pretty good and the hair doesn't feel like that after
@@ityoboinoley It's worth it. You get a large container and have less damaged hair after using it. These bad bleaches have been on the market too long and need a formula upgrade at least.
I’ve used ion powder and the ion developer together and haven’t had issues with patchiness or my hair feeling dry. I have over fried my hair but that was complete user error but even then my hair wasn’t horrible or look terrible like I’ve seen other brands do. I think it smells like candy apples ☺️
I just bought the ion powder and developer and I’m sooo scared now after I saw the clumps of hair he pulled out😭 can you give me any tips on it and did you have any hair loss??
I use Ion bright white in the cream lightner which goes up to 8 levels (my hair is extremely dark brown near black), and use 40 developer on my roots for like 10 to 15 minutes, and it does what it says in that time. So yeah. It is a very powerful lightner so its definitely something to remember when using this brand. I also use their brand developer, too, so i think that helps with it as well.
As a store manager for Sally, I love your videos!! So informative! I know you have your own semi color line, I would be really interested in seeing reviews of the ION Brights permanent colors?? Also maybe a video of T14-T18 and etc. A lot of people go for the T18 but I explain that the hair is not light enough so it won’t do anything and people still get it. Maybe explain what they do for the hair color that they get? Thank you!!!! You rock! I share your videos to my team and anyone else I know!
When Wella owns Clairol so it makes both Wella Color Charm and BW2...and to be fair, BW2 hasn't really changed much since it first came out, which is why the instructions suck
I bleached my underlayer last week and thanks to brads videos and him educating us I actually didn’t mess it up 🤧 My hair is still relatively healthy and my curls have survived the bleaching process 🥲❤️ Thank you brad
OMG! I was just talked into buying ION Bright White from Sally employees & was just about to bleach my hair today! Thank You! Saved My Short Hair From Becoming Bald!
Brad I’m honestly shocked by the results of the ion bleach, I always use the CREAM version and my hair isn’t that damaged after. I would like to see you compare the cream to powders to see if there’s actually a difference in damage!!
I LOVEEE bright white ion. It’s super fast reacting. I get the bottle instead of the powder. However, I only leave it in my hair for 25-30 minutes. I NEVER leave it in for an hour. There’s no need. I also never use over 20 volume. When I go platinum white I wait like 3-4 weeks in between to bleach it again to get that icy white color I want. If you do it too quick you can damage your hair. And as always, wella for toner always❤️
I always use the ion cream lightener, not the powder. Expensive but I do like it! Def have to monitor how quick you are processing. Took my Native American homie's hair to Danny Phantom level in only 2 processes, and his hair still felt super soft. He said he normally goes through more than 2 processes and has an orange phase but we got to yellow on the first round.
For those people who don’t want to watch the full thing: Bw2 was the worst. Quick blue was 3rd. Ion bright white was 2nd but the hair fell out. 1st was the wella bleach! Hope this helped fellow lazy people! :D
I use quick blue but with good reason. I had previously bleached my hair with wella 6-8 months before and then dyed it a pumpkin spice color. When I wanted to go back to platinum blonde using wella and then toning it ended up still being very orange. Quick blue was the only bleach that helped get rid of that horrid orange color so I can get a platinum white blonde
I'm a Black woman with a very short afro and thick (4B) type hair. First time I i ever bleached i used the BW2. The odor was sooooo strong. He's right about that. 😫 My hair felt very dry, afterwards though. I just thought it was because that's just part of the bleaching process. The next time I bleached, I switched to the Quick Blue because that's what a lot of Instagram hair influencers use. It made a big difference in the way my hair felt and my hair wasn't breaking off like it was when i bleached with the BW2, so I'm going to keep using Quick Blue.🤷🏾♀️
I used Prism Lites with violet and it was awesome. This is also a product at Sallys. Thanks Brad for this so I don't do something stupid to my hair, ever!
Love this video, love the idea of comparing one kind of popular product from different brands, would love to see a comparison of like level 10 ash toners, or all pinks from different brands etc as a stylist, LOVED this video
I hope people realize he is starting at the roots because this is a mannequin and there is NO heat that escapes from the head. I’m surprised he didn’t mention this during the video, because he is doing exactly what he tells everyone NOT to do. However, again, this is a MANNEQUIN. Human heads process faster at the root due to heat escaping from the head/scalp. If working on yourself/someone else, please remember to follow normal rule and do the roots last!
I would love to see a comparison of the cream lighteners. I first used BW2 powder and completely agree with your assessment 😅 but for the past year and a half I’ve been using Ion’s cream lightener. I leave it on for about 45mins and the results are great, nothing falling out. (For reference I have very dark, very strong 4a/4b hair) I also use their bond protect product line though. I mix the first step in to the bleach and then use the second step for 10mins immediately after rinsing the bleach out. It’s been pretty great. The only experience I have with Wella so far is the T14 toner. I was just trying to get the orange out with a blue based toner. But OMG do not follow the directions on that box!! ❗️I processed for 28mins (box said 30) and it gave me dark GREY on level 9 blonde and a dark mud brown on what was a level 8 blonde. I had to lemon/conditioner soak to lighten it up again. Luckily that added some warmth back. So yea, I’m not a “Wella” fan. 😅
Ion got so hot and expanded and I think it's cuz no foils. It happened to my daughter too. Thankfully not falling out bad and no damage. Cuz as soon as it got hot, we rinsed it out amd hair was still orange

I always recommended these products, especially the Absolute Perfection Booster Step 1, if you're trying to bleach and you want to ensure the health of your hair, it really does work and I never bleach my hair without it.
hi! Is it the bright white or creme oil lightener?
@@evaa396 It’s the bright white one
Can you mix the Absolute Perfection Booster step 1 into a bleach bath with shampoo, cream lightener and their 20 vol developer?
Which developer volume do you use and how long do you leave it on
Is that the Ion dupe for Olaplex
You should do a part 2 with professionals one for us licensed hairdressers! It would be fun to compare … for example Schwarzkopf BlondMe , Wella Blondor or even the new Moroccanoil one!
Redken tide pods aswell
@Barenrandombruker 123 You can get the professional lighteners to use at home too, so it could be useful for some people. I used the Blond me, even though I am not a professional, because I wanted to use something of quality and the bleaches in this video are not even in my drugstore :/
@Barenrandombruker 123 You can definitely mix different brands of developer and powder bleach, as you can see Brad does it as well. I am not sure how it will work out though, because I had the powder Blond me as well. Maybe you can do a test strand at the underlayer of your hair first if you are not sure.
@Barenrandombruker 123 its preferable to use the in brand developer but its not a hard rule. Use what you have and do a test strand
agreed!!
I agree! I’ve used this one for like 2 years on my undercut & have never had any problems with it.
I like that one too! I’m not a pro at all but it came out so even!! My hair wasn’t too dammaged either after two bleaches
I use the powder bleach for my curly hair and it treated it well! Never would use it more than 30 minutes tho it works hard!
This was fascinating! Thank you to all the Mannie Quinns who sacrificed their hair for science.
sooo after reading all these comments i went to sally’s today and got the ion crème lightener and OH MY GOD!! it is amazing. i’ve never had softer hair post-bleach
Hey what color where you before and what results did you get?
I swear by that stuff.... It was really easy to go from dark brown to white without destroying my hair....
I've always wanted my hair past ass, Please teach me yee ohhhle wise one 🦉
I usually use ion cream lightener and it fair well (also pretty strong, but not half as damaging as the powder). I personally think cream lightener should be most peoples at home choice as I find it more forgiving. Never the less; I think you should do another round with cream lighteners from Sally’s. Might find something there.
I bleached my hair at home and used this bleach and loved it. My hair was at a level 5 and it lightened so nice and evenly. I love cream bleach.
I also use the Ion ammonia free bleach powder and it isn’t as strong because it’s ammonia free! It also smells great because no ammonia!
I've used the cream lightener and it swells SO much more than the powder. i hate to risk the overlap.
@@jinxxie9593 That's definitely one thing to consider. Almost all of Ion's products do that for some reason. Even their permanent color swells a bit. Kinda strange.
for some reason i always have a problem with their cream lighter expanding to the point of no return, super weird
Here’s my comments as someone who regularly uses Quick Blue.
Personally I’ve never had a problem with it being thick or having clumps, but I use more developer.
The patchyness totally wasn’t user error, that’s happened to me every time I’ve used it.
what makes you continue using it if it happens every time?
@@riloxave I haven’t been able to find anything I can afford that works better. And while it’s patchy, it’s not excessive.
i always use Quick Blue and i didn't have an issue with patchiness if i used it on my virgin hair. last time i used it i had long virgin hair down to my butt and pretty much my whole head lifted to the same shade (my roots lifted a little more than the rest but nothing major). my hair is naturally dark brown, almost black. it's only patchy when i have previously dyed hair. so maybe it's just different from person to person?

BRAD. DO THIS SAME TEST ON KINKY CURLY ETHNIC HAIR PLEASE!!!
any bleach will damage the curls, but if you hydrate them enough and take care of them and fix the broken bonds the curls will be almost normal!

I agree! I have not tried the powder version. But I have used the creme on myself, husband and friends and its been great experiences so far.

💖 thank you Brad

Did you bleach your whole head/hair with Quick blue?? I want to do it loo
I've used all of these, and I've now settled on ion's cream lightener. It is a bit damaging but I have super dark hair and it's the only one that lightens enough levels for me
What volume developer did you use?
I wish you'd have done prism lites, that's the best bleach at Sally's, available in blue and violet so dark hair starts at blue for a medium lift and violet for high lift, oh and the argan oil cream developer is the best developer they have 😉
Prism lites is where it's at!! Never once has it failed me in nearly a decade
Love me some violet prism lites my hair is dark brown and paired with 20vol it gets it light enough for my manic panic voodoo blue

ive used prism lites for years and love it!
And you can get it in the green apple scent! Which is delicious! 🍏🍏🍏
For reeeeal, first time my bleach job has ever come out even and hair still has its integrity. I went from black box to almost platinum in 1 week.

As a 32 year veteran hairdresser I have tried every bleach on the market. My favorite of all the times that I still used to this day is Schwarzkopf blonde me!
What exact product from the blondeme do you use to lighten / bleach your hair?
I find this so interesting... even though I left self bleaching back in my 20s and my early 20s at that. I love my hairdresser and she is the only one who touches it with bleach now 😂 I learned my lesson... I have absolutely no talent at colouring my own hair!
Blondeme by schwarzkopf seems to be the best bleach since its modern compared to quick blue and has ola plex bonding (equivalent) in it
I mean, it doesn't have Olaplex in it, it has its own type of bond builder, but yes.
That’s the best one I’ve used and I’ve tried quick blue which was harsh and had poor results.
I use Blondme and it left my hair soft and it also smells Good
Thank you so much for making this video, Brad!

Here’s my question. What’s the best lightener and developer for wavy/curly hair?
This video is so biased how did the one that had hair falling out in chunks get a higher score than the most even one
So I definitely agree that the ion powder lightener causes damage. The ion bright white cream lightener on the other hand is amazing and has taken my hair from black to platinum with no damage. It does have different oils and other ingredients so I'm sure that makes all the difference
The developer makes the difference too, its very conditioning

When I used to bleach my hair regularly, I always used quick blue with a 20 developer, I've never had problems with clumping but it looks like I used more developer than Brad did. I also never had it in for more than 10 minutes and I would have fairly even lift. I went to a professional stylist and a week later I cut off all my hair due to the damage, breaking and falling off in clumps. The stylist was aware that I regularly bleached my hair and it was just a disaster of an experience. I stick with doing my own hair because of that.

Funny thing! I have bleached 2 different mannequins fully with the same bleach. They both went bald only in the exact spot were yours also did.
Can we talk for a moment about the excellent comedic timing with Brad “interviewing” the contestants at the beginning?
I think Ion Bleach needs a new test to really see what it can do, with the reccommended time IT recommends. It probably doesnt say an hour. And it clearly is powerful. But Id like to see the end result for it when its at its best.
I’ve always used Quick Blue and even though it’s been bleached 4 times, my hair is still healthy.
Edit: I’ve also never had issues with it being clumpy, although it looks like I add more developer typically than Brad did.
Maybe it was expired too I have had hair dye from Sally’s that was old
I’ve only used the Ion Bright White to bleach my hair before and have never had a problem with hair loss/breakage. But I usually use 20/30vol mixed together and not for so long. I’m super scared to over process so I don’t leave it on for as long!! Don’t be afraid to use it, just keep an eye on your hair ☺️

Maniquins take bleach so much differently!!!!!! I'm in cosmetology school and we all use the same bleach. Three maniquins lost 45% of their hair with one bleaching and one of mine was bleached 3 times and has decent hair
Yeah the hair on mannequins is rarely virgin. It's heavily processed and dyed, so once you bleach it it starts breaking easily
Oh and we used 20 % developer.
The hero we KNOW we need 😂
Glad you're happy with yr result now 💞
Bruh Brad as a game show host would be the best thing ever 💃🏻
The quick blue, you're so right about the plastic. I opened it thinking it'd be 3/4 or even 1/2 full, and it was barely even 1/4 full. Makes no sense to make the bucket that huge. Quick blue is what I had used and it worked pretty good IMO.

Are you gonna spare your nose and try Wella? It's cheaper per pound too lol
Ive had the same problem with manic panic bleach. I use mostly professional now and i dont have the dryness problem due to the built in conditioner. Ion is actually pretty good and the hair doesn't feel like that after
@@bluebird1694 I’m probably gonna invest in the blondeme bleach even tho it’s more expensive bc everyone is raving about it.
@@ityoboinoley It's worth it. You get a large container and have less damaged hair after using it. These bad bleaches have been on the market too long and need a formula upgrade at least.
I use BW2 also w/30 devp. So far, I achieve that level of brightness I'm looking for. I'm scared to change..lol
I would love to see a curly hair bleach video 🫣
As a BW2 user, I thought all bleaches came with a massive dust cloud and noxious fumes. It got my hair really blonde with 20vol though!
When Wella owns Clairol so it makes both Wella Color Charm and BW2...and to be fair, BW2 hasn't really changed much since it first came out, which is why the instructions suck
i don't know 'bout y'all, but when Brad says, "Hello , beautiful...", I FEEL beautiful in that moment. Thank you, Brad. Keep doin' what you do.
Love you tutorials. Love “hi beautiful “ melts my heart!”
Quick Blue and Ion cream are the only two I use. Love them both, but the cream is #1!!
I bleached my underlayer last week and thanks to brads videos and him educating us I actually didn’t mess it up 🤧
My hair is still relatively healthy and my curls have survived the bleaching process 🥲❤️
Thank you brad
Which bleach did you use
My heart every time he says ‘hello beautiful’ because he’s talking straight to my low self esteem 🥰
OMG! I was just talked into buying ION Bright White from Sally employees & was just about to bleach my hair today! Thank You! Saved My Short Hair From Becoming Bald!
Use 20 volume for no more than 30 minutes.
Im using quick blue for many years and its amazing just add bit more developer and mix it with painting brush 👌
Brad I’m honestly shocked by the results of the ion bleach, I always use the CREAM version and my hair isn’t that damaged after. I would like to see you compare the cream to powders to see if there’s actually a difference in damage!!
Who else has their notifications on?! Been waiting for this video for a while 😍
Being a greyhead since 2016, my go-to and favorite will remain Schwarzkopf BlondMe; love that stuff so much
I LOVEEE bright white ion.
The Zotos Age Beautiful cream lightener (also from Sally's) with bond builder is amazing in every way
I second that
I always use the ion cream lightener, not the powder. Expensive but I do like it! Def have to monitor how quick you are processing. Took my Native American homie's hair to Danny Phantom level in only 2 processes, and his hair still felt super soft. He said he normally goes through more than 2 processes and has an orange phase but we got to yellow on the first round.
Hi, did you use a 20 developer or 30?
For those people who don’t want to watch the full thing:
Bw2 was the worst.
Love this video, love the idea of comparing one kind of popular product from different brands, would love to see a comparison of like level 10 ash toners, or all pinks from different brands etc
as a stylist, LOVED this video
I love kaleidocolor from clairol. It never burns me even using 40 on scalp. I have fragile curly white blonde hair :)
My favourite has been SCHWARZKOPF BLONDME these past few years!!! Gets my level 6 hair to platinum with just 20 vol developer in one go
There's 16 ounces in a pound, so the BW2 is actually half as much as the others for basically the same price.
You should do a conditioner comp next on the bleached ends!🥰
I love that Ion liquid bleach.
I used the bright white and I loved it, lightened my hair very easily and never had any issues until I started over bleaching
Ion got so hot and expanded and I think it's cuz no foils. It happened to my daughter too. Thankfully not falling out bad and no damage. Cuz as soon as it got hot, we rinsed it out amd hair was still orange
