@@ShelbieMua my partner has had success using the Arctic fox bleach kits on 4b hair, the main downfall is the measly amount of product compared to what’s actually needed. But I’d recommend instead going to a salon supply store and getting 30 vol, 20 vol, and 10 vol and doing multiple rounds of bleaching over the course of a couple weeks (with scalp treatments in between bleaching). The 30 vol will bring it to a very orange colour, the 20 and 10 vol will lift the rest without absolutely demolishing the natural curl pattern of ur hair!
I haven’t been to a professional since 2013. I’ve always bleached/colored my hair myself. But your videos encouraged me to FINALLY go to a professional to go from black to blonde. I told myself “listen to Brad! You will fry your hair again if you try to do this at home! Or end up with cheetah spots!” So thank you! I love you so much ❤️
I've had better luck bleaching my hair myself than going to salons 😂 Last time I went, I spent $200 to turn my hair into straw because I felt too embarrassed to complain.
@@grammaurai6843 last time I went to a salon she completely messed up what I wanted and also damaged my hair 😭 I then went to someone that comes to your home and she was horrified at how the previous gal messed up. I went back to dying my hair dark brown at home and then just stopped once the pandemic hit. I want to have some fun with my hair again but I’m also sad I’ll have to give up two years of natural colour 😭
Right?? The only time I've gone to a professional for coloring(been coloring on and off since 6th grade(and I'm 34 now), is when I wanted to go from red(I have had every possible shade of red, from more natural looking "ginger" hair, to clown red, to..well, not red, but a more burgundy color) And come to find out from the stylists, colored red hair, especially boxed color(I would sometimes use boxed and sometimes higher quality stuff from Sally's) is one of the hardest to get rid of!! It took multiple sessions and some damage, and a crap load of money, before I finally got it back to my natural color. And then less than a year later I got bored of it and started coloring again at home 🤣🤣🤣🤦♀️🤦♀️
The colorista has both English and French because the brand is French (L'Oréal Paris). New/nouveau Bleach/decolorant All over/complet It's not a typo. It's French. LoL
Also I don't know where he got his box but here in Canada everything is labeled both in English and French. If you order online (Amazon) sometimes they ship canadian stuff. It's basically the same product/packaging, they just add a French translation to it.
honestly, i appreciate this because I paid almost 300 bucks for some lady to do the WORST job on my hair ever. she had thick, goopy bleach, and applied in on the top of my head first. covered it all (most of it ending up on the floor) and let it sit for almost an hr. rinsed it, and a HUGE chunk of hair was missed so she rebleached my whole head and left me for another 45 mins! As a "courtesy" she put Olaplex in my hair... I waited a few days to wash my hair because it was also colored (highlighter pink...my choice. was for charity). got out of the shower and my hair was a noodle-y mess. i tried to brush it and hair was breaking like crazy. i just bundled it in a towel and let it dry. when i took the towel off my hair was so frizzy it was out to my shoulders. I don't think I ever cried over my hair before that day. It took me 2 years to repair the damage, and even to this day, despite me having grown out all of the damage, it still doesn't feel the same. This lady claimed to be a stylist for almost 30 years and a salon owner for almost 20. You would think she would know what she was doing. She even damaged my shirt...covered in bleach stains. Literally, the worst salon experience I have ever had. So, I am honestly to the point that I would rather spend 30-40 bucks to ruin my hair all on my own. at least my broken/damaged hair tears won't include me crying over the money I saved up to have it done.
@LesleySister. Don't judge her for crying over her hair. Some people are particular about how they present. Sounds like it was for a chartist you event and I'm sure she was excited about how she was gonna look. So it's easy for you to say as it seems your hair is not part of your identity. Is anything particular part of your identity?
I've always assumed they put conditioner in the box because it's likely a higher quality conditioner than the average person just has in their house, which will make the end result look and feel better. I've always noticed that the conditioner that comes in box dye makes my hair feel much softer than the conditioners I normally use, which are basically just drugstore conditioners.
I know right? My grandma passed away in January and when going through her kitchen pantry I found so many box dyes.Every single box had no dye because she used it however they all had the conditioners. I'm like you and Love the conditioner so it made we wonder why she didn't use it.
The conditioners the put in the boxes have silicone in them, which is what creates the smoothness. I have short, fine, hair and you best believe I keep the conditioners (and shampoo if there’s one). I love them.
I hope this eventually gets the attention of Brad because I selfishly want to know the answer for myself, but in the long run it will really help us curly and coily girls in the long run. Okay so I just have a suggestion for a future video with this exact concept BUT it's for "box dye lighteners" that are favorites of the black community, or people with textured hair in general. The top brands I've seen and used myself are: Clairol Texture and Tones, Dark N' Lovely, and the favorite, Creme of Nature. If you could get a manequin with curly AND coily hair (so like type 3 and 4) and try the lightest blond shades from each of the brands on a SUPER dark base I'd just about pass out from happiness. I think it's so important for us to see videos like that, because when you look at reviews online for these brands they're inconsistent or they're all fails because most of us don't know what we're doing 😂, and it's hard enough taking the plunge to do a DIY hair transformation. I know all hair types can be damaged but curly and coily hair especially so, as you're well aware. Anyway, I hope this idea gets picked up one day. In the meantime, I'm going super light ginger blond this weekend so we'll see how that goes lol.
my mom, is a garnier stan ever since she became blond she always uses that one for retouching. she is the only woman i know that her blond hair doesnt look drying or damaged
Brad, I am a hijabi and I love watching you and have learned so much from your videos! I am currently rocking some blue and turquoise strands and while not many will see my hair, I feel so confident just knowing I did it and so although you may not realize, you really do inspire a very diverse group out here and give us the confidence to express ourselves through creativity :) In my religion we follow a compliment with mashalah so I end by saying-Thank you and you are Amazing mashalah:)
I'm already a blonde who uses Nutrisse to cover my greys, as I am now 59 years old. I've even had my hairdresser ask who colors my hair. lol When I say that I did it, she was impressed with the color. I simply can't afford to pay around $150 to color my hair. I do leave the cutting to the experts, though.
Im using henna and just get my hair layered by the professional. I cant afford to pay all the time for color. I will say that the ion box dyes at sallys is real good.
the great thing about arctic fox as well is that you can close up the lightener and developer, so if you don't use it all you can save it for next time. It also has slight violet tint which helps with the brassy tones. Since most of arctic fox's customers are using it for creative color, often doing only sections not the whole head, this makes even more sense.
my mom was a pro hairstylist back in the day and she only uses Garnier hair dye now. it's really nice and leaves the hair in good shape. so glad you finally actually gave box dye an honest try lol
The conditioner that came with my moms box dye growing up was always so much better than our regular cheap conditioner, so I remember I used to steal the conditioner from her box dye lol
I actually REALLY LOVE BRAD MONDO!!!❤️ I'm a 52 year old average Mom livng in the south and probably not the most common of your watching demographic but I just LOVE YOU! Your kindness and good heart seem readily apparent. We need good influences like you. And, I mean. C'mon! Brad knows how to make hair gorgeous!!
Same here (basically): 54yo Midwest, and I'm crazy about Brad Mondo and his channel! He is a hair-saver and I've learned so much. I love going to the salon but when I can't afford to I just trust Brad. When my family and friends can't go to the salon they come to me and we turn to Brad Mondo so I don't screw up. Thank you Brad Mondo and team!!
My go-to's for bleaching my hair at home are Arctic Fox or Strawberry Leopard. The only reason I even tried the Strawberry Leopard was because the store was out of my Arctic Fox that day. I manage to get the job done with just one box, but I have a pixie cut, and the right side of my head is shaved kinda. Anyway, glad to see Arctic Fox come out on top!
BRAD!! I’ve been watching you for years and just wanted to say, you’re such a great dude. I love how even in your reaction videos when the hair is BAD, you’re never MEAN. You always find a nice way to spin it, you always offer suggestions for the next time someone does their hair at home, etc. etc. etc. you’re just a great dude and all of us really enjoy your videos, and I have loved seeing your content over the years. Keep up the good work and keep on smiling. Love you, man!! Because of your tips and tricks I’m confident enough to do my own hair! Whether it’s at home color or highlights, cutting it/trimming it or giving myself a totally new hairstyle. It’s not always perfect, but I always end up loving it and I always say a quiet thank you to you in my head for helping me get to my skill level today. I’ve dyed friends hair, I’ve cut my own hair and partner’s hair and even cut my husbands hair now(he’s easy though, typically he prefers a buzz cut but when he’s growing it out and lets me do a fade on him it always turns out awesome). So just thank you for what you do, love you and your content and your personality. Can’t wait to see more from you, Brad! 🤩🩵
I used the arctic fox bleach kit for my roots and I actually really loved it! I only had to leave it in for 15 minutes and it lifted my level 6 roots to a level 10!!
I took my bangs from dyed black freshly dyed to neon pink in one day using that bleach and their color. I do a shampoo cap on the bangs every five or six weeks to catch the roots and brighten the color. But as much as I I have used it there's no damage at all. My 17 year old I bleached the tips of his twists. Worked great and his hair is naturally very very dark brown and took about maybe five or six minutes to get to a yellow orange which apparently is a cool color for kids now I don't know.
I tried doing my hair at home for the first time, and I screwed up how much bleach I would need for my hair. So, I ended up having to use this kit twice within the span of a few weeks as I tried to fix the splotchy bleaching I had the first time. For the second time, I did mix some shampoo in to do a bleach bath. I haven't had any hair loss and it worked great, even though I only went a few weeks between bleach treatments. My hair feels perfectly normal one day after bleaching and dyeing. The only extra product I used was hair mask the day before and the day after every bleach treatment.
I was reading an article about box dye vs salon dye. They had a pro from L’Oreal talking about how awful box dye was. I was like, “Hey. My guy. The people you work for make like 15 different box dyes, over multiple brands. You might want to hair this convo out.” They own Garnier, and Dark n Lovely.
The one thing I wonder tho is if there are still unprofessional, name brand box colors on the shelf. Because just like salon products (not the color/chemicals but the retail on the shelves) are only guaranteed when sold in salon. There have been tests on professional, salon-grade hair care products vs the same products from store’s like Walmart, Target, TJ Maxx or Ross for example. And they have usually found identical packaging but in the store’s they found clear differences in consistency and bacteria in some because they are from third party (illegal) distributors. Or sometimes it is the real thing but it’s expired and sold for cheaper. Bacteria would probably not live in hair chemicals but I wonder what type of box color third party distributors could come up with🫣🤔 Maybe all of the (pro brand) box colors ARE good and stylists just say they’re bad because they don’t want their clients’ to overlap/overprocess their hair. That’d make sense because ppl don’t realize how complex formulating color and the application can get To be clear I am not saying all hair products sold outside salon are bad but that is what they kinda teach us in hair school. But it is important to buy from a source you can trust, anytime you’re using products on your skin. We trust these big companies too much that usually prioritizes money rather than our well-being
Interesting that they own Garnier.. L'Oreal and L'Oreal Professional are different and I'm sure he worked for the professional one that stylists uses. But I get where you coming from, because he's not helping his company sell more products in drugstores
I’ve been watching him for years! I’ve never touched bleach or color in my life, I recently bleached black box dye out of my best friends hair and it came out yellow and one full color! We dyed her hair a light red so it could fade into a ginger. I’ve never been prouder in my life!❤️🫶🏼 Love you Brad
@@finaltemptation3558 I want from black to lighter hair and it destroyed it. Black is hard to get out. Use a color remover first and it save you so much
This!!! Yea!!! When he said, “I don’t know why conditioners are in these!” I am over here thinking- THEY are the best compared to the standard conditioners! I found the conditioners at Sally’s!’
I’ve tried Arctic Fox’s Bleach Please twice and Garnier several times (my hair has been every color under the rainbow🥰) over the past few years, and can confirm that Garnier is by far the better choice 💁🏻♀️ my hair is a dark espresso brown, and after two bleaches, Garnier got it several levels lighter than Arctic Fox, and still felt pretty healthy. Sometimes the least expensive works better than the most expensive, in my experience anyway😇😉
Brad, thank you so much for this video. I've been sitting on a couple boxes of Feria Hyper Platinum and ash blonde toner, re-watching all your videos on bleach and color. I'd just started to wuss out, and you posted the answers to all my questions except one: Would you ever do a series on 50+ women WITH YOUR DAD? Not Golden Girls hair, but dramatic makeovers. I'm living for this concept.
I used to go to salons for color, but as a medium Ash blonde I find Revlon Colorsilk blondes, followed by toner, gives me a gorgeous result and my hair doesn't feel like hay, lol. Cheap, too. During my 15 years as a redhead I only used body art quality henna. Sometimes I miss it, but I rocked it for a while. Now, I love being blonde again.
@@gail1001 never heard of it. What's the outcome color? I am usually aiming for a light natural blonde or champaign blonde without gold or orange tones.
Because of this video, I had the gumption to try to bleach my dark hair with the Garnier, and I was amazed!!! It was $10(not $4) but it was for sure less expensive than going to the salon for $200+ As always, thanks Brad!!
Brad darling you mixed up the ratings for Bleach London and Colorista at the end! You gave Colorista a 6/10 and Bleach London a 7/10 but you swapped the ratings during the line up.
Miss Manne-Quin: “oh hell no brad not this again!” Brad: “you should stop talking and I’ll start applying!” Brad: chokes on the bleach fumes. All the other Miss Manne-Quin’s: “Karma bitch!” Brad you are an icon we love you! ❤️❤️ xx
I used to use the L'Oreal Feria platinum kit, which is way better than the Colorista & a couple bucks cheaper. The drugstore ones come w/ toning conditioners because they're intended to be platinum dyeing kits, not just straight bleaching kits. The Arctic Fox one doesn't come with a protein mask, conditioner, or any other kind of fillers because it's meant to just prep your hair for Arctic Fox semi-permanent dyes - so you need some porosity left to pick up the color. Those dyes are pretty conditioning in and of themselves, too.
Arctic Fox rocks!!! It has the toner built into the bleach so it is a one step process. I've bleached my daughters hair several times with it and it comes out so good and she has very curly mousy brown hair. But has been blonde for 2 1/2 years now. Thanks for confirming what a great product it truly is.
Love that you mentioned to check the package details. One of the local bleach kits here called Bleach Cloud comes with a load of 30 volume developer, an a 167g pack of slightly dusty bleach powder. For some reason it doesn't stink that much when mixed and applied, compared to the blue powder we can get from a vaciador (a local and generic Sallys-like place) in the Philippines. It was a bit milder too I guess? Not entirely sure but it did not fry my locks, didn't sting on my scalp, and lifted level 0 virgin to around level 8-9 after 1 session of processing for an hour, with a-OK strand tug tests every five minutes or so. It did kinda souffle up under the plastic and it heated up like no one's business, but the results are fab. Oh, it arrives with latex gloves, a rat tail comb + brush, and mixing bowl too so definitely a fan. I wish they sold just the powder so I can use, say, a 20 volume developer.
I used to box dye my hair once a month from 13-19 and I almost always used the garnier brand! The colour deposits well and it leaves your hair feeling soft and not dead! Never bleached, but I have gone everywhere from light blonde, red, purple, orange, dark brown etc
I’m an anti-box dye lady. Today in Target I caved. Not going to lie. I’m so impressed. Great color (roots a tiny hot. My fault for using a bag and not foils) no loss of hair, came with not just conditioner, but a shampoo for after. I hate to say it, but I might be done with salons after 33 + years.
Bleach London now have a “plex” bleach, that has a bond builder included too! I prefer it so much to the original and makes my hair feel so much better.
i know this comment is 8 months old but would you mind elaborating on the difference you've felt between the two! they are both in my local drugstore and i wanna bleach my hair so your experience would be useful! thank u anyway if not
@@skipskylark9525 the bond builder sort of works like olaplex! it minimises the damage done to your hair and makes it feel healthy and strong, and it’s the same price, so worth it
I started using Arctic Fox bleach after finding their hair dye to be incredible. Was nervous because it was more natural. First time I used it, my extremely dark brown hair was platinum blonde in 5-10 minutes. It was not even, because I didn't care since I was dying pink over it so the golden blonde in small places because of my application was fine. I'll never use anything else, because my hair didn't feel so gross after using AF. It also doesn't smell horrendously deadly either. So glad it was his favorite, because it became my favorite after 10 minutes.
3:23 honestly the sachet of conditioner that comes with Revlon Colorsilk box dyes is the best product that I've ever used on my hair, it make my hair feel and look even better than when I get a Brazilian keratin blowout. I wish they sold it separately
Yesssss. I use Garnier for all my bleaching purposes. Never burns my scalp, gives great lift and my hair feels amazing afterwards. It's worth it for being on the cheap end. Mind you, here in Canada you're paying much more for any hair products. ( Garnier costs about $9 in my area, loreal is like, $15-$20 per box)
Okay i love that you're testing these. Just a warning for people who wanna use these or similar ones, if your hair is longer than your chin or thick at all, you're gonna need multiple boxes. I've done my hair myself for years and have long thick hair so it just made sense to get the tub of powder bleach and developer from a hair shop. It was much cheaper in the long run!
Yup I feel u. I'm at the point where it's cheaper to go to Sally's again. Hair is back o my waist snd it's 5 to 6 boxes to do my whole head. Just my roots at 6 weeks took just over 2, maybe used 1/4 of the 3rd one.
1:23 That's indeed not a typo on the box ”complet" is a French word which means complete The packaging is written both in French and English 😌 L'Oréal Paris is a French brand so that's normal
That Garnier is what I’ve been using for my root touch ups for years. I don’t know how he managed to find it that cheap, it’s always almost twice that! 🤔
Box dye bleaches are actually good if you know what you're doing. Many have the developer volumes hidden on the box, but you can usually find them. But yeah, many people DON'T know what they're doing 😭
Brad, I appreciate you so much. I have learned so much about hair color from you. I had no idea what to do when my hair turned orange or yellow until you taught us about toners. I didn't know what was happening, why it was turning those weird colors, that it was fixable and so on. The worst part is I have not only had this happen when I've done my own hair, but when hair dressers that I've been hundreds of dollars to who did not know how to tone or properly lift my hair. It's shocking and it only goes to show what a master you are!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH. My husband and I now can do my own hair for pennies on the dollar without my hair falling out of my head or looking like a freak. You're the best!
I have to say though, in my days of using box hair dye, I LOVED the conditioner that came with them. The smell and the way it made my hair feel was just “chefs kiss” !!. I would usually have to buy two boxes of whatever hair day I was purchasing because one box was never enough.
I always used to use the BLEACH London kit to lighten my salon done balayage, along with the BLEACH London deep conditioner and my hair was so healthy and looked great. But I am obsessed with watching hair-dying videos so I at least had some knowledge to use.
Just so yall know, there’s always the volume on box dye & box bleach developers! You can find it on the actual bottle; not the label on the box, not the label on the bottle, but on the plastic of the bottle lmao. It’s sorta embossed on the clear part, easy to miss but 10 times outta 10, it will be on there!
That, is good to know. Thank you for that. I actually checked the bottle on my developer and there it was, right in the plastic. Not easy to see, but it's there.
I have been dying my own hair for years from a medium brown to blonde. I do free hand balayage, free hand ombre, or face frame colour. I have used Garnier Nutresse, Garnier Olia super blond extreme, and Splat, all of which are box bleach products. There has only been a few times that I made a mistake where the product wasn't applied correctly and I ended up with orange or brassy spots and in those cases, I used semi permanent fun bright colours to correct it (brand: Manic Panic). Either way, I get results that I want, and I have a lot of fun. Thanks for this video. It was very informative and fun to watch
Only time I’ve ever damaged my hair with “box bleach” in a decade was when I went from black to blonde and did two treatments in a week which I knew was dumb
While I DO now use the regular ol' stuff from Sally's, back in the day I used two out of four of those. Manic Panic's bleach kit was always my favorite since it lifted the most, but, honestly? They were all fine. Using the straight up developer and bleach just lets me be a lot more custom with it, so I have come to agree with you that it's ultimately the way to go. But I can't hate on the grocery store aisle bleaches. They're not terrible if you're willing to be flexible about your results... and have pretty strong hair.
I will say this about the conditioner in the box dyes I've used: They are AMAZING! I dont know why they dont market entire bottles of the stuff instead of just a tiny tube but holy hell it makes my hair feel amazing after and smells fantastic (again...im saying this about the types ive used. Cant speak for all box dyes )
I stand by AF's Bleach Please, so I'm glad to see that it's getting some recognition. I'm always able to cover my whole head with one box (tho tbf I have an undercut lol) and the results are consistent every single time. And I'm real lazy and real sloppy tbh, I get five minutes in and I'm throwing the brush in the sink and just using my hands lmao. Never had a breakage problem and my hair always feels amazing afterwards, honestly it's the best.
I'm trying to find an alternative because I can't bring myself to financially support Arctic Fox/ Kristen Leanne after the things she's said, are there other brands you've tried that have these results?
@@Samantha-vg5ro The only other brand I've tried that's even close is this one called Brite, my niece grabbed it for me from Walmart when I was desperate and it worked quite well. If it helps at all, I was also *very* on the fence about continuing to support AF for a while, but it turns out Leanne left the company completely in late 2021, and since then it's really seemed like the company is doing all they can to distance themselves from her. 👍 If not, tho, I totally get it and hopefully Brite will give you similarly good results if you can find it!
The first time I bleached my hair in February 2020 I used a Schwarzkopf blonde box. I thought "screw it, worst comes to worst I'll just dye it back to brown or cut it off". And it worked SURPRISINGLY well. I got from about a level 4 to a level 9 which was perfect for putting green on. Since then I've bought a tub of bleach and big bottle of peroxide to keep me going and my hair hasn't suffered at all!
Do you mix the peroxide in with the bleach or use separately? I used peroxide by itself when I was younger but it turned my brown hair orange 🤷 Have a wonderful day. 😀
@@donnaallen2207 Now I mix bleach powder and 20 or 30 volume peroxide yes. I've got a medium brown color so if I only used peroxide I think it would go orange too 😂
@@TheEllaDarling Thank you for your reply. I'm going to give that a try.. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed and hope for the best. If someone can mess up something that easy it'll be me. Lol How long do you leave it in for. Thanks again for your help. 😀
@@donnaallen2207 I leave 30 volume on for around 30-40 minutes, starting with the ends and putting it on the roots last. Definitely easier to get someone else to help! I don't use foils because I think it would just take a ludicrously long time when I don't need it. I do put a plastic bag with a little moisture in it on once everything is applied and check the hair every 5-10 minutes.
I think it would be cool to do bleach & toning videos together. Like explain what level they are, what undertones you see and what toner your followers could use. I know you have a seperate toner video already but a video like this then followed up with a toner and blow dry would be cool.
Hair dye conditioner is the best conditioner I've ever used in my life. Every time I save it and hoard it. Shawarzkopf, even purple anti-brass conditioner smells so great! L'Oréal, Clairol, all yes!!
I wouldn't be surprised if the Garnier and L'Oreal ones are the same, aside from the packaging and maybe conditioner, side Garnier is owned by L'Oreal. Brad, I'm so glad you'll test stuff like this instead of just turning your nose up at it. I usually do powdered bleach and developer, but sometimes the convenience of box is just nice.
I actually really like Garnier's color line in general, I always use their semi permanent color when I go natural and I've used it for like 14 years at this point. It was the only dye my mom would buy for me when I was wanting to dye my hair at 13. The color always fades really even and well and its very easy to saturate all the hair
Same! I've been using their R3 red for over 10 years and always get compliments asking where I get my hair done 🤣 at home with box dye. The gasps I get when I say that is funny. But if it works then who cares! My hair has never had major breakage always silky and shiny. It always fades beautifully, so much so sometimes I get more compliments as it fades lol.
I recommend Revlon Dark Ash Blonde box dye to correct your color after bleaching if its yellow and orange or blotchy. It works for me every time and Lift Up is a decent box bleach
When I was in high school I always used garnier box products and my hair was really light, also felt great and smelled great haha. I’ve since moved away from box hair products but good to hear you like that brand.
when it comes to drugstore dyes and bleaches, the volume level is printed on the developer bottle. *Rule of Thumb* : The default volume in most over-the-counter dyes is 20V. The default for drugstore bleach is usually 30V (rarely 40)🤓
arctic fox bleach is amazing. i've colored my hair so many times, with bleaching almost every time (sorry brad mondo) but arctic fox bleach really helped prevent as much breakage. 10/10 recommend
I use the the R3 red from Garnier and have for over 10 years and my hair has never been destroyed and always looks even and awesome color. I've always loved their stuff.
As an animal rights promoter, I am so glad that the one he liked the best is not tested on animals. It just pains me that people are not aware that products that they use are being tested in the eyes and on the skin of innocent animals like dogs and rabbits. Okay, I'm getting off of my soapbox now.
The conditioner that comes in box dye leaves your hair much nicer and I believe it’s supposed to help “lock in” the color. Also when I used box bleached on my Mexican dark brown and long hair in my teens I required like 4 boxes for my hair to truly saturate. Idk what my mom did when she applied it but I was BLEACHED BLONDE LOL! Toner would’ve been helpful though. Nowadays it’s so expensive! Might as well purchase my stuff at Sally’s. I’ve abused my amazing genes enough lol
Ive used the arctic fox to bleach my own hair without even being able to see the back of my head and I honestly was extremely impressed it was a tad brassy at the roots because the ends lightened quicker so id recommend an blue and purple base toner
I used that exact Garnier box on dark brown hair, like level 4ish, and I didn't know how light it would be, but I knew light blonde wasn't going to happen. I was also pleasantly surprised with the light strawberry copper reddish blonde, which was always my usual color for years before I stopped coloring anyway, so I liked it. It will definitely get dark bases to strawberry blonde.
I bet AF's didn't come with conditioner because you're probably expected to use one of their colors on the finished blonde, and there's the conditioner!
Good to see, I don't use bleach but use Garnier Nutrisse colours for over 25 yrs now, always been a mousey blonde. Have never ever been disappointed. Never needed extra treatments on my hair ever, and always commended on the condition of my hair when i have it cut. I'm in Sweden and a standard salon cut (without eve washing, that is extra)costs about $80, colours start at around $300. No way i can do that and maintain roots. My worst experience was with the Loreal color vista, i tried a dark plum on my now very greying hair.. and got bright pink. Still waiting on that growing on to put on a nutrisse grey shade, think my grey finally reached point of no return.. lol Aiming to colour remove the pink first, don't want to risk bleach at home, then the grey shade after a few days perhaps.. Still a little darker than my white hairs so hoping it will work. lol
I've never been more proud of myself than I was when my hairdresser told me that the at home box dye I did looked good and even. It's probably never going to happen again, because I'm really bad at it and it only worked out because my hair is short, but I was very proud
So excited you reviewed a product we have in the UK! I’ve not experienced any breakages with Bleach London (I have really thick hair though-and I only bleach the tips and still need two boxes). They have a Plex Bleach kit that’s only £3 more though which is nice. For some reason Arctic Fox’s ingredients are not compliant with EU/UK standards so I’ve never gotten to try them.
She is conversational I wouldn't buy anything from her brand Artic Fox ekkk I don't support racist's... Maybe it's a good thing you can't try this brand because it's means less money goes to a racist. I am from the U.S. it's a scandalous deal with her and not enough room on here to go into detail's...
@@richiethev4623 whoa! had no idea/don't know anything about the company or her, just that I always see people using the brand in RUclips videos and realised it wasn't sold in the UK. Definitely not trying to give money to racists, though!
I’ve been dying my hair with box dye for 6 years now and Color Rista is the one I always advise to stay away from. Their product always give different results, and often they’re really bad. You can never count on the same result and it runs out fast, bad application product and just terrible. Also I’ve been staring at Brads hair for the entire video it looks so good 😭❤️
I can't believe it he is using every bleach that I wanted to try but I haven't had the guts to try! The only one I have tried and that I really loved was this exact box of Garnier platinum, P2 I think... Anyway I loved it. I was using L'Oreal Absolute Platinum for. Years and then. Like 3 boxes of toner! With Garnier I only used 1 box of toner and it was Loreal Ice Blonde Toner. I look like Elsa from Frozen, LOVED it!!!
The joke is, that buying professional products is waay cheaper in the end - Tub of blondme bleach (450g/15.8 oz.) = 23€ - Bottle of blondme developer (1l/33,8 fl. oz.) = 10€ Thats 33€ for 1,5kg/3,3lbs end product - no box dye is that cheap :D
Yep and they work so much better I used bleach London in lockdown and my hair ended up yellow blonde / orange blonde And then used professional products the next time around and ended up with white / yellow blonde instead Deff so much better and also cheaper!
Right? Like I bought a whole tube of cream lightener ($20) and a bottle of developer ($7) that I can use multiple times for less than it would cost to use one of these products once.
Idk what the exchange rate is but $10 USD for 1L of developer is very pricy. Plus non professionals can't even buy blonde me. Wella from Sally's is even cheaper than this and super good lightener that anyone can purchase.
@@kenziehurlock there are also developers for 5€ I think, i intentionally didn't pick the cheapest option for this comparison. And luckily everyone can buy blondeme in Germany, though we don't even have a store like sallys here, as far as I know, we need to buy stuff like this online.
That's cuz it's cheaper to buy in bulk than individual packets/single application sets. Example: 1oz packets of quick blue average around $5 each, but if you buy the tub it'll be $1-2 an ounce instead.
I've been using the L'oreal colorista for a while and gotta say, it never disappointed. I mainly used it to get the ombre look for the ends on medium lenght hair and it always turned out great :) but we have the ombre kits in Europe, depending on what you want the result to be, I don't use the all over bleach kit
I’m not sure how great it is for your hair but I’ve been icy platinum since I was 16 and I always used garnia fruitise ‘white chocolate’ box dye. It always got the job done and my hair never fell out.
@leo I have dirty blonde/light brown natural hair. I’ve stopped buying box dye now that I’m in my 20s cuz my hair is a little tougher to color but it works if you can’t get into a Sally’s or salon :)
I honestly would love to see you expand your salon quality products into making your very own bleach, I would appreciate what you would provide to the hair community with your own bleach. I know you’ve talked about your own toners in the past, but a bleach would be so kickass by you !
I love this man. You just saved us all from having to do the trial and error of finding the right product. Truly a man of the people 😂🙏🏽
I agree. Brad us a wonderful genuine person
You think it’s the same for black hair?
@@ShelbieMua it will definitely be more brassy or you’ll have to do multiple rounds of bleaching and tone
The 30 vol will bring it to a very orange colour, the 20 and 10 vol will lift the rest without absolutely demolishing the natural curl pattern of ur hair!
yes
I haven’t been to a professional since 2013. I’ve always bleached/colored my hair myself. But your videos encouraged me to FINALLY go to a professional to go from black to blonde. I told myself “listen to Brad! You will fry your hair again if you try to do this at home! Or end up with cheetah spots!” So thank you! I love you so much ❤️
was it worth it??
I've had better luck bleaching my hair myself than going to salons 😂 Last time I went, I spent $200 to turn my hair into straw because I felt too embarrassed to complain.
@@grammaurai6843 last time I went to a salon she completely messed up what I wanted and also damaged my hair 😭 I then went to someone that comes to your home and she was horrified at how the previous gal messed up. I went back to dying my hair dark brown at home and then just stopped once the pandemic hit. I want to have some fun with my hair again but I’m also sad I’ll have to give up two years of natural colour 😭
Good luck fellow Shelbie😁
New/nouveau
Bleach/decolorant
All over/complet
It's not a typo. It's French. LoL
Also I don't know where he got his box but here in Canada everything is labeled both in English and French. If you order online (Amazon) sometimes they ship canadian stuff. It's basically the same product/packaging, they just add a French translation to it.
Lol I was laugh yelling that at the screen. "It's Freeeennnnnnch!"
As a French subscriber I'm offended lol
"Its not a typo , its french" has got to be the best/.ost accurate sentence i've seen today
@karina Carr, thanks soooo much for explaining that bc it was REALLY bothering me 😆
honestly, i appreciate this because I paid almost 300 bucks for some lady to do the WORST job on my hair ever. she had thick, goopy bleach, and applied in on the top of my head first. covered it all (most of it ending up on the floor) and let it sit for almost an hr. rinsed it, and a HUGE chunk of hair was missed so she rebleached my whole head and left me for another 45 mins!
I would look into seeing if she was actually licensed.
Crying over hair? 😂 Just shave it off
@LesleySister.

Yes, it's more of a mask than a conditioner. It should be also color protective and very heavy on the "soft" / "slick" ingredients
Same I absolutely love box dye conditioner. Have yet to find one that is as great. Have tried so many
I buy box dyes, when discounted that I don't use, just for the conditioner! Why don't they sell it when so many people love it?

Alot of us can't.
I use henna and you should of seen my hairdressers face when I told her 😆
Im using henna and just get my hair layered by the professional. I cant afford to pay all the time for color. I will say that the ion box dyes at sallys is real good.
I use the Garnier 100 . My hair color is so beautiful. People ask me on the streets for my stylists number 😂
I'm a Hairdressing student and I'll admit I commit the ultimate hair sin of using black box dye...I'm not paying 200+ to dye my hair
What colour do u use please I'm blonde to get rid of my greys
the great thing about arctic fox as well is that you can close up the lightener and developer, so if you don't use it all you can save it for next time. It also has slight violet tint which helps with the brassy tones. Since most of arctic fox's customers are using it for creative color, often doing only sections not the whole head, this makes even more sense.
You can't save bleach. It has a shelf life of a few hours, if even that.
my mom was a pro hairstylist back in the day and she only uses Garnier hair dye now. it's really nice and leaves the hair in good shape. so glad you finally actually gave box dye an honest try lol

My go-to's for bleaching my hair at home are Arctic Fox or Strawberry Leopard. The only reason I even tried the Strawberry Leopard was because the store was out of my Arctic Fox that day.
Worked great and his hair is naturally very very dark brown and took about maybe five or six minutes to get to a yellow orange which apparently is a cool color for kids now I don't know.
same! it worked really well for me. i would also recommend manic panic box dye 30 volume
Thanks for the tip !!
Same! It turns my hair white every time! Dark brown hair here
I was reading an article about box dye vs salon dye. They had a pro from L’Oreal talking about how awful box dye was. I was like, “Hey. My guy. The people you work for make like 15 different box dyes, over multiple brands. You might want to hair this convo out.”
They own Garnier, and Dark n Lovely.
Bacteria would probably not live in hair chemicals but I wonder what type of box color third party distributors could come up with🫣🤔
Maybe all of the (pro brand) box colors ARE good and stylists just say they’re bad because they don’t want their clients’ to overlap/overprocess their hair. That’d make sense because ppl don’t realize how complex formulating color and the application can get
To be clear I am not saying all hair products sold outside salon are bad but that is what they kinda teach us in hair school. But it is important to buy from a source you can trust, anytime you’re using products on your skin. We trust these big companies too much that usually prioritizes money rather than our well-being
Sorry lol let me just summarize and say most box color/non professional products are fine as long as you know what you’re doing/research first
Interesting that they own Garnier.. L'Oreal and L'Oreal Professional are different and I'm sure he worked for the professional one that stylists uses. But I get where you coming from, because he's not helping his company sell more products in drugstores
Dark n Lovely is actually not as strong as Garnier.
I’ve been watching him for years! I’ve never touched bleach or color in my life, I recently bleached black box dye out of my best friends hair and it came out yellow and one full color!
They're literally just colored conditioners. So.
I don’t trust myself enough to do my own hair, but I still enjoy watching these videos. Thanks Brad! 💗
My hair has never looked better, thanks to your DIY videos! Much love ❤️
Brad, I would love to see you test the new toners that are starting to pop up beside the box bleach kits...
Which one did you get? That’s awesome!
Yeah. I'm curious 2
Seriously, the people demand to know!! Lol what kind did you use???

At 130 I spent last time I would be too
I’m so glad Brad does these types of videos, I changed the way I applied my box hair dye and how to cut my hair on my own.
I use garnier for my hair. It feels healthier, really nice color, way cheaper than professional care. I'll probably use it for years to come.
Bleach London now have a “plex” bleach, that has a bond builder included too! I prefer it so much to the original and makes my hair feel so much better.

@@skipskylark9525 the bond builder sort of works like olaplex! it minimises the damage done to your hair and makes it feel healthy and strong, and it’s the same price, so worth it
I always get a good chuckle from watching these. Brad is effortlessly hilarious 😂
It is good stuff
Yesss ,it's so good!!!
They do that on purpose! Iearnt that in class I took. Then people loyal to buying the color.!
Also the only good thing about box dye is how good the included conditioner almost always smells 👌
1:23 That's indeed not a typo on the box ”complet" is a French word which means complete
The packaging is written both in French and English 😌
L'Oréal Paris is a French brand so that's normal
That Garnier is what I’ve been using for my root touch ups for years. I don’t know how he managed to find it that cheap, it’s always almost twice that! 🤔
I want to start bleaching my own hair ,I’m sick of paying out a fortune.I’m scared of messing it up though 😅
I box dye bleached my hair last night ! I can't believe you released this today 😂
Wow. 👍
How did that go?? :)
@@notaburneraccount it went pretty good actually
That's absolutely not true, especially with garnier smh
Informative and hilarious. You are quite the entertaine Brad! 😂 😀
Also, I think it is important to mention that the fourth product is cruelty free
London bleach is cruelty free as well 😊
but arctic fox has done sm other shit u cant justify
@@terryexpose 🤍
Big deal🌻
Only time I’ve ever damaged my hair with “box bleach” in a decade was when I went from black to blonde and did two treatments in a week which I knew was dumb
*PEANUTS*
ive done 2 in one sitting from proper dark black to ash blonde o.o
Same 😅
While I DO now use the regular ol' stuff from Sally's, back in the day I used two out of four of those.
I agree!
I loved it at the end when he said just Cuz I like it doesn't mean it won't still break or snap it. That was so cute and most wouldn't think add that!
Came to the comments to say this! I go from dark brown to white w this stuff! Love it
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! I won’t use another!!!!!!!!!!
@@Samantha-vg5ro she’s not part of the company anymore
@@TheEllaDarling Thank you for your help. Wish me luck because I'm doing this tomorrow. Have a great weekend 😀
The L’Oréal colorista bleach is actually a 30 volume developer. It has “30 v” printed on the bottles, you just have to look.
I used Bleach Please on my almost black hair (salon dyed not box) and the results were amazing. Well worth the $40!!!
Wish you’d tried Garnier Olia bleach. Another bottle but the smell is actually lovely, and definitely the most (quantity) in a bottle too.
When I was in high school I always used garnier box products and my hair was really light, also felt great and smelled great haha. I’ve since moved away from box hair products but good to hear you like that brand.
The way he made the boxes walk in like contestants made my day
when it comes to drugstore dyes and bleaches, the volume level is printed on the developer bottle.
Good
The conditioner that comes in box dye leaves your hair much nicer and I believe it’s supposed to help “lock in” the color.
They’re full of silicones which is why they feel nice. They basically coat the hair in a film
Garnier is DEF NOT $5 💀 at least not anymore, it costs like over $11 in stores and around $8 online uhhhh
Although the Garnier and Colorista colors seem very close, I love the shine on the Garnier one.
Still waiting on that growing on to put on a nutrisse grey shade, think my grey finally reached point of no return.. lol
Aiming to colour remove the pink first, don't want to risk bleach at home, then the grey shade after a few days perhaps.. Still a little darker than my white hairs so hoping it will work. lol
The conditioner in there is better than any conditioner I have bought! Not sure why but it does make hair softer!
I've never been more proud of myself than I was when my hairdresser told me that the at home box dye I did looked good and even. It's probably never going to happen again, because I'm really bad at it and it only worked out because my hair is short, but I was very proud
I’m gonna be honest, the Garnier box dyes made my hair grow. Idk how but it kept it so soft and my hair would grow so much.
Garnier box dyes are literally hair masks with a little bit of bleach in them, so it makes sense lol
Women which of the garnier. Olia or nutrisse
The joke is, that buying professional products is waay cheaper in the end
- Tub of blondme bleach (450g/15.8 oz.) = 23€
- Bottle of blondme developer (1l/33,8 fl. oz.) = 10€
Thats 33€ for 1,5kg/3,3lbs end product - no box dye is that cheap :D
Yep and they work so much better
I used bleach London in lockdown and my hair ended up yellow blonde / orange blonde
And then used professional products the next time around and ended up with white / yellow blonde instead
Deff so much better and also cheaper!
I mainly used it to get the ombre look for the ends on medium lenght hair and it always turned out great :)
but we have the ombre kits in Europe, depending on what you want the result to be, I don't use the all over bleach kit
I like the idea that hairdressers have a youtube channel to help us futre hairdresser succed and do good in the future. Thank u mondo for helping me
I honestly would love to see you expand your salon quality products into making your very own bleach, I would appreciate what you would provide to the hair community with your own bleach. I know you’ve talked about your own toners in the past, but a bleach would be so kickass by you !
I’d love to see a part 2 with other brands!! Maybe with Hair relaxers? 😊
I love those box dye conditioners. I used to take my sister's when she'd dye her hair (she used her own conditioner she already had at the house lol)
brad mondo discovers french
This boy is so fine. And i love that he literally goes thrugh every step and every trial youll go through.
Brad's taste in cloths and music should be commended! He's rocking the hell out of that AC/DC shirt!😍😍😍😍
Damn! Garnier is $13.99 in Canada! 😹🙈 I used it on my daughter and it turned out beautifully after a good blue shampoo treatment 👌🏼
$13.99 in the U.S Virgin Islands too. 🇻🇮
