I have a 2008 Commander 5.7 Hemi 165000 miles on it. I live in Virginia, and last July drove her to California. Getting ready to drive back first of spring. I love Jeeps and I also have a Cherokee XJ for over 20 years already, and the thing is absolutely amazing, and he'll have a big bud, hopefully for some time.
It is ugly and clumsy looking, but I'm going to make it cool. Congrats on your new ride!! It's a dream on the highway. Make sure you sub to the channel because new Commander videos are coming every Tuesday! Thanks for watching.
I just bought a highly optioned 2008 Sport 4x4 with the 4.7, which was upgraded to 305 HP in 2008. It's "almost" equipped like a Limited. My daughter loves the center row sunroofs. We've had it trail riding twice so far. Can't wait to get it lifted.
I had a 2006, here in Phoenix a couple years ago, they are more popular than you could imagine. Mine being a desert car, a lot of the hoses needed to be replaced. And I didn't like the way my knee hit the key in the ignition while driving. But I think they were recalled at some point for that. But I still love them, reliable or not
Overlanding is becoming huge and these can still be found at a reasonable price!! I think they will become more and more popular as time goes on. Thanks for watching!
Congratulations! We have owned Jeep’s ever since our kids were born. Never have been let down. Wife owns a 2018 jeep now. Just us. I drive the xB. Together were jeepin’. Love it! Lots of room and comfy!
That is awesome! I'm glad you have had good luck with them. They are ALL OVER Florida so if anything the junkyards will be full of anything I need! Thanks for watching.
I got my 2006 Jeep Commander in 2007 and it's STILL running verrrry SMOOTH in 2021! Jeep for the win!...but not without maintenance and upkeep. 124,000mi. Original mercedes transmission.
So far mine has been great. The previous owners did a decent job keeping up with it, but there is still work to do. I'm glad to hear yours is still going strong! Thanks for watching!
New Jeep. New sub. Welcome to the Jeep family! We have a 2006 with all the features and 5.7 Hemi with MDS. Never had a major problem (knock on wood). We have loved her since day one. I think you will enjoy this vehicle a lot more than you think. Best wishes!
I found your channel because I’m considering Into finding a commander. I drove one back in 2008 that was a year old and it was v6 model and I was very impressed by it. The rare ones I’ve seen are with a hemi. I know 2 months too late this is super clean. I subbed to the channel.
The Hemi's are rare because they blow up. 😂🤣 I'm loving the Commander so far, and although mine isn't perfect, I'm convinced I got a good one. Good luck with your search! They are still affordable compared to 4runners or Land Cruisers. Thanks for watching!
The excitement you had when showing it was how I felt when I test drove it And at that point I wanted it. Everyone else hates it but I love it the look the drive the extraness it’s all me.
I always wind up driving cars everyone hates. I don't know why. Maybe I have the worst taste in cars. LOL. Thanks for watching! Lots more coming with the Commander. Make sure you sub to the channel so you don't miss a video!
I have owned a commander for 3 years now. got it for $3,500 Fully loaded. never had a single problem with it. 2007 Jeep Commander. Everyone has their preference. I've seen a brand new car break down before. Different strokes for different folks.
If maintained, there is no reason why these can't be great cars. And I hear about all the issues with new cars too. I'm super happy with my choice. Thanks for watching!
Mind blown on this one! However I'm in complete agreement with your reasoning. Life's an adventure and why not explore it with four wheel drive. Happy trails and my full support.
Well said! My mind is blown too. I did some work to the Jeep today and it didn't work out well. I didn't record anything, but I will have a video showing what went wrong in the future. Thanks for watching.
I agree. Mine is still going strong and the fact that these share the exact same 4-wheel drive system as the new Grand Wagoneer (Quadra-Drive II) just shows you how advanced and capable the Commanders are. They are rad, just no one knows it yet.
@ExtremeDailyDrivers yeah and they're square not shaped like a bar of soap. If Jeep really wanted to save the cherokee, they need to make that sob square again and throw in that new inline 6. It's a turbo which kinda stinks but might be an absolute blast too..and make a 5 speed manual standard
@ExtremeDailyDrivers I didn't know that about the 4 wheel drive being the same as wagoneer. Must be pretty decent if they're putting them in their new wagoneers. I'm actually really starting to fall in love with those wagoneers but Jeep don't like giving those away that's for sure.
I have a 2007 with about 180k miles on it. I have owned it for the last six years and the only thing I have done is replace a vacuum line. It does have its hang ups it flips the windshield wiper once when I start or switch it off but I just live with it. I guess I consider it a good service record. It just seems to work for me and now that I am disabled it works well. When I bought it I couldn’t decide which V-8 I wanted then I decided on the 4.7 for ease of maintenance and I was happy with it. It is not the most luxurious model but it does okay.
I'm coming up on to two years of ownership. 191k miles and the only thing that has "broken" was the starter died. That's expected on a 17 year old vehicle. Thanks for watching.
Your gonna love it iv only owned the jeep liberty and commander 4x4 with the 5.7hemi ..I weld and fabricate and do installation...so you could only imagine the goodies iv added
I have the 2006. Watch for electrical transmission issues, crankshaft seal leaks, ball joint and cv joint boot issues. Eats batteries. The struts will kill you to move for the lift.
Just bought my 3rd xB back in Nov 2020. I've enjoyed all of your xB content. Congratulations on the new to you vehicle. Good things are coming haha. If it breaks I'm sure you will be making more great content on those repairs. If it doesn't then there will be great content of y'all's trips and daily info! Thank you for all the interesting videos!!
I still have my 2006 Jeep Commander Limited HEMI. Rides like a dream and fast. The only problem with time from Midwest winters is undercarriage rust and bottom door rust.
I live in South Africa and saw one at a dealer, first time I've seen one and its honestly pretty awesome if I was in the market and fuel price wasn't a problem then yes I'd buy one. It was the 2006 4.7L 4x4 with 68k km's.
Wow, looks really clean and well maintained, especially for a 15 year old vehicle. I look forward to seeing how you are going to make this Brandon-ready. Drive carefully heading home.
Congrats bro…..my brother who lives in Indiana is a Jeep fan so yeah that’s pretty cool that you bought that and a big one at that…..have fun keep rockin and keep me posted on the other if you would…..thanks
I gotta admit, would have preferred that you’d gotten a Sequoia and put a Gen 3 tundra front clip on it. From my experience working it a transmission shop (20 years ago) Chrysler has the worst American transmissions! I recommend eliminating the trans cooler from the radiator. Get a beefy external cooler. If one of your trans cooler lines has a compression fitting? Put a cutoff wheel on your dremel, make 2 cuts…the length of the compression fitting, 180 degrees apart from each other and peel it open. There’s usually a spring loaded check ball in there that eventually sticks. When that happens the trans hits 1000+ degrees and burns up. Now the cooler lines aren’t high pressure, so you can use basic fuel line and hose clamps.
That's great advise. Thank you. I will do some research, and I agree. Mopar's are known for their terrible transmissions. They should be a dime a dozen in the junkyard, if needed. Thanks for watching.
I bought a 2008 Commander with Hemi 4 years ago that was mint.., I absolutely love this thing.. MPG is not great but I do get 19 mpg on highway.. The big engine allows me to pull some toys.. I got mine for 6k and was told new it was 45k..
@@Pitman556 it is great.. Replaced upper and lower ball joints, control arms at 185,000 miles.. I wanted the big hemi and it runs like a top.. My best milage is 70 + mph on interstate..
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers thanks, it's also the limited edition. The thing I'm not looking forward to is the gas mileage lol this hemi is gonna be a pig on fuel and with gas prices now 😒
If you do lift it go with the old man emu shocks that lifts 1.25 and emu coils with new coils insulators also u should get the upper control arms from jba offroad to fix the positive camber
I just bought one with the Hemi 5.7 💨 😲. I'm excited about it. It's big, fast, and 4x4. With 7000lb towing capacity. It has a lot of miles, only paid $4900.00 with 176000 miles. Hopefully I can get all the bugs out off it. I dropped another $729.00 on it second week for New 160 alternator, New 1000 CCA Diehard, belt, Fram filters and thermostat. Installed by me and Utube. Not bad for a salesman. 😄
Congrats on the new Jeep! Make sure you check out my other videos on the Commander. I've made 30 of them. I'm sure you'll find some of them helpful. Thanks for watching.
I got a 06 Jeep commander with the 3.7. 110,000 miles and I get 16.5 mile to the gallon around town and 20 on the high way. Doesn’t leak or burn oil or anything else. Easy to work on for the most part. A tank for sure but here in Chicago when winter hits the commander has no problem on the road. I have had it for 10 years and hasn’t been a money pit at all.
If your looking for decent all terrain tires that have an aggressive look check out the Falken Wildpeak AT3...I have em on my Ram 1500 and I love them,as long as you don't go in deep mud they're absolutely awesome 80k warranty too...can't wait to see the upcoming videos! 👍
It's ugly looking. At best it's just awkward looking. The idea behind the design of this car work, but the execution is poor. The bumpers sick out far. The hood line is designed wrong. The fenders are hideous. Belt line moldings need to be removed. I agree on the interior design. I like it. Thanks for watching!
Glad to see Commanders coming in to their place. Always been a fan after owning a 3.7l Now i have a 5.7l hemi. Sad to see Dodge halted their production. Oh well, still hasnt deterred me.
I have had three jeep grand Cherokee‘s one with a 4.7 engine had 220,000 I love the jeep and the commander I’m excited to see what you do. I wouldn’t do much more than a 2 inch lift play ride really well where they are an extremely capable off-road stock
Thank you! I was planning on starting with the Bilstein 5100's to level out the front end and some much needed dampening and then go from there with a lift if needed, but I'm hoping I'll be happy with just leveling it out. I had the same shocks on my old Tacoma and I also added a 3 inch lift. I always kind of felt the lift ruined the truck a little bit. I had to get adjustable upper control arms to get within alignment specs and even then it wasn't the same. I'm going to try to not make the same mistake. Thanks for watching!
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers sounds good… Yeah stay away from spacers. They are hard on a Jeep and with these Xk weighting so much you want to stay with the factory suggested wheels size… maybe a more aggressive tires. Ever thought of air bags… you can keep the original ride hight and raise the Jeep when needed….
@@bahamashadow2535 Yeah, spacers are trash. I have my eyes set on a cool wheel and tire package and they are 17's. Never thought about airbags for one of these. They are so picky with the electronics that I don't want to add anything more than I have to.
You use it when you are towing something and I believe it effects the gearing. With that being said, I have never used it because I don't tow anything. Thanks for watching!
Wow 🤩 I own this same model 🤟🏼 Looking forward to all your videos !!! 3 out of 3 is a home run 🏆 for me as your follower 😎 XB ✅ CT200h ✅ now the Commander ✅ Can’t believe this 👍🏼🙏🏼🤟🏼🏆🥇🎖 Congratulations 🎊🎈🎉🍾

@@ExtremeDailyDrivers 🤪😜 Preludes are really hard to find in Iowa, and I’ve been monitoring Miatas but my wife say “No way Jose” 🤣😂😅 Too many cars and motorcycles already 🤣😂😅
The Ride looks clean B, but the comments are killin' about the reliability 🤔 if my wife went Jeep, she would've gone wrangler (but it was too much $$$) she got her dream Mini Countryman instead.
Nice Jeep! I have a 2008 Limited with the 5.7, and a 3 inch lift. Couple vids of it on my channel. Absolutely awesome jeep and I've had no major problems with it for the 3 years i've had it now.
Found 2 cant decide..2006 4.7 and a 2006 5.7 hemi both silver..i heard the hemi blows out or something and is crazy expensive to fix..whoever has had one or drove one what should i get also heard they have electrical problems...looking to get it in 2 weeks ..help
Congratulations Brandon, I am a bit surprised but surprises are usually good. I gotta say that for a brief moment I thought you were gonna say that you had bought your mom's Buick! Funny thing that the ideas you have for this build are damn near the same I have for a Subaru forester. I myself am thinking on going with maybe a three inch lift with some 16's and some fat tires to give it a stout stocky aggressive look. I was driving a Chevy Avalanche with a four inch lift and was hitting 80 without even noticing so I know what you mean about low rpm's. Well I gotta say I'm really looking forward to seeing where you go with this street legal tank and perhaps XDD will have a camping channel spinoff, F it why not! Ohh and I do apologize for the "first" comment but you know...
Any comment is a good comment, even if it just says "first". Comments and likes help drive the videos and as a result get more views. I was considering a Forester! I was considering a lot of cars, but I had a certain budget I didn't want to go over. I think I got the most bang for my buck, but we'll see. You should totally lift that Forester. That would be awesome. I've done some camping stuff on the channel back when I had my old motorcycle and one of the videos did really well. I look forward to going back into the woods again. Thanks for always watching.
Well done man! I am about to buy one and looking for some reviews. Your enthusiasm push me to go for it! Now that 3 months have passed since you own it, do you have some tips for me in order to understand if it is a good investment? Thanks in advance and congrats!
Is it just me or does the commander look like a h3 that skipped chest day. I saw them side by side at a light and it was hilarious from the back, the h3 it was almost identical to the Jeep. Just bigger
Yeah, I read that when they designed the Commander it was their attempt to create an H3. I like the Commander more than the H3. By a mile. Thanks for watching!
This is awesome and I love the attitude, sure it may be unreliable but we're gonna make a fun series about it 😆 You should totally collab with watchJRGO in Kansas when it does! 😁
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers I got a Sport with the 3.7 from the auction with the full intent to sell it for a profit. I drove it around and decided to keep it for a while. Now I’m in love and looking for a limited edition with the hemi.
@@joedasilva38 You don't want the Hemi. You might as well buy a grenade. Do some research. They drop valves and boom. The Hemi's are also always abused by the previous owners because, well, it's a Hemi!! 4.7 is the way to go. The Limited is loaded and awesome.
Canada here...big dog! Welcome! Yes, get the tune up done...interested to see you take care of the wood trim, I have as well...man...as I rebuild mine, quadratic drive as well, the only thing kicking my ass is the price of rocker replacement...look it up so you know for future...that's a sweet ride...I know your gonna pimp it nice like the lude lol... yup, your dodges will have some parts...your gonna want to hit the yard for everything lol but especially relays and switches...famous for going bad...of course we will talk as we go! Kiss da wife your lucky to have her! High five from me...let's go!
So far, Canada, you are the only one excited about this build! Thanks for the tips! And one of the best parts about owning a Jeep, is that the junkyards are full of them!! Parts galore!! Thanks for always watching!
1:26 into the video and liked/subscribed. Fellow owner here. I got an XH (euro version), with a OM642 Merc 3.0CRD, built in Austria. Reliable AF. I'll reply to my own comment after the vid :D
First note. It doesn't have 3 locking differentials. It has 2 electronically limited slip differentials, one front, one rear, and a transfer case in the middle behind the gearbox, that allows you to go into "4wd LO". The differentials engage automatically when grip is lost on either of the wheels. Allowing for 100% of the power to go to a single wheel.
Second note. Looking forward to the radio, lift and lighting replacements. I'm looking to do the same. Still have the stock radio. I've got the 2" OME lift, it levels the car out, looks much better. Also running 275/65/17 Wrangler AT/SA's. Stance and tyres look great on the standard rims.
Thanks for replies, Ted! I am also looking to level out the Cobra Commander. I hoping I don't want/need a 3inch or more lift. I put a 3" lift on my Tacoma and kinda regretted it. One of the companies I have worked with before reached out and asked if I needed a new headunit. I of course said, "Yes!!" So that video will probably be one of the first videos I do. Also, one of the previous owners ditched the factory Boston Acoustic speakers for some aftermarket Kicker speakers. The passenger speaker is blown. So I'm going to go to the junkyard and grab me a new/old set. I'm driving this rig everyday and loving it. Thanks for subbing and thanks for watching.
That's a grandpa grandma car that gets handed down to the kid who just got his or her driver's license, or the car you give your kid after sending mom to the nursing home
I had to google that and I'm still not exactly sure what it is! I hope to install a Atoto tablet/headunit in the near future with one of their backup cameras like I did in my buddy's Jeep.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers raspberry pis are single board computers. Think super flexible and multi-purpose. Here's a link magpi.raspberrypi.org/articles/car-head-unit. They are not just for head units, but as you see, they can do it. Have a look, you may love it.
I'm goona buy commander as my first car(2006 5.7L HEMI 200,000KM),i love boxy look and huge car, would u give me any comments on ur own experience of this car? Thanks a lot!!!!
Do you recommend buying a Jeep Commander 2007 Limited at around 100k miles? I'd love to get one but I'm worried about upcoming issues and spending more money on maintenance than the actual car
It depends on a lot of things. The most important is the condition of the car. How does it look, how does it drive, how does it sound? When shopping for a used car, the LAST thing that matters is the mileage. Used car dealers have drilled into our heads that it is the MOST important factor, much like how General Mills and Post Cereals have been telling you that breakfast is the most important meal of the day...it's not. When buying used, I always focus on the interior of the car, that's where I start. If it's in good shape, chances are the car is worth considering. If the interior is crap, the car will be too. If the previous owners didn't care for the one area they spend the most time in, they aren't going to take care of the areas they don't spend time in (exterior and engine). As far as the Commander goes, mine has 186k and has not had a major issue. Maybe the one your are considering can last just as long or longer. Buying used is always risky, but do your research, and you should be ok. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Good luck.
I like all your criteria that you want in a vehicle, but I find a Commander to be hilarious! I was thinking you were pranking us at first.... I can definitely see lots of content made possible because of this Jeep
Listen, I would have taken a 4runner or Sequoia in a minute! But the problem with Toyota vehicles is that they hold their value too well!! I think I got the best bang-for-the-buck with the Commander. I guess we'll find out!! Thanks for watching.
I think what attracted you to the Jeep is it’s BOXY look, kind of like the XB on Steroids, Im sure you will make it great like the other rides you work on!
You can fix just about any vehicle so you may not care as much about reliability but when you are offroading you do care a lot about it. My choice for an overland vehicle would be a Landcruiser, 4runner, or FJ and some great mods and upgrades can be done on them. It is an interesting addition to your list of vehicles and look forward to see what you do with it.
I wanted a 4runner, but not an old one and they hold their value too well!!! I had a budget that I was trying to stick to and I think I got the most bang-for-the-buck. Time will tell. Thanks for watching.
First thought: you're dead to me. Second thought: 🤔 ok. You've got a point about winding the xB out on the highway. It is NOT a highway roller for sure. Plus, I'm getting older and I now "get" why people drive Buicks. Final thought: JDM car guy buys out-of-character American SUV? For specific reasons? Ok, I'm in.
I have a 2006 Limited Q2 Hemi. Don’t listen to the nay sayers. So be prepared to spend a lot of money…it’s an old car. It’s not an reliable car. I did drop a valve seat…put a brand new engine in it! Wouldn’t trade it for the world!
And that's why I didn't get a Hemi. Too many stories about dropped valve seats. All old cars need some love and this one is no different. There will be some money spent, but hopefully it's not on huge repairs. Thanks for watching!
Do some research before you invest in another unreliable vehicle

Love the jeep! Going to look at a commander tomorrow but has the hemi!
Bring an extra engine just in case! 😆 Going luck!
Congrats guys. Go enjoy those trips and one another!
Thank you! Will do!
There is no doubt in my mind these big hidden gems are going to go way up in value eventually.
@ExtremeDailyDrivers have you seen the new 2024 land cruisers? Toyota gets it.
@@jessekuchinski1172 Yep. Looks just like a XK.
Thanks for having a good attitude about the new purchase and thanks for supporting the channel.
I still have my 2006 Jeep Commander Limited HEMI. Rides like a dream and fast. The only problem with time from Midwest winters is undercarriage rust and bottom door rust.
Yeah, even mine has some rust underneath. I've seen some online that are horrible. Thanks for watching.
I have a commanders club down on Tijuana Mexico bro !!! We love the Xk’s
I think I have seen your crew!!
This is a good channel, keep up the great work! And thanks for posting.
Thanks!! Lots more coming! The Commander is about to transform into a modern SUV. Video coming soon!
Thanks! Will do!
Bought a 2008 4.7L 2/28/22 156k miles $7500. No Uconnect. Might look into upgrading the radio/center console next year.
I had a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee that thing was a winter beast
I can't wait to get ours in the snow this winter! Thanks for watching!
I have a 2006 Limited came with 5.7. I have had it since new. I tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee with it.
Nice! I'm loving this thing more and more everyday. Thanks for watching.
Congrats bro…..my brother who lives in Indiana is a Jeep fan so yeah that’s pretty cool that you bought that and a big one at that…..have fun keep rockin and keep me posted on the other if you would…..thanks
Thanks! Will do!
Love my Commander too, i don't really know whats better a 5,7 4,7 or my 3.0 Diesel, 218hp and 510NM are pretty good tbh.
There's a 3.7 V6 too. But all the gas models get the same mpg, but that being said the bigger motors have more horsepower and hauling ability.
@@CrazyPalidin57 True😂, 3,7 V6 Gas is not realy what i want😅 love my 3.0 mercedes v6👍🏻 but would prefer a 5.7😅😂
I bought a 2008 Commander with Hemi 4 years ago that was mint.., I absolutely love this thing.. MPG is not great but I do get 19 mpg on highway.. The big engine allows me to pull some toys.. I got mine for 6k and was told new it was 45k..
These are a steal at $6k. Thanks for watching.
@ExtremeDailyDrivers how is this jeep holding up? I want to make a wk2 srt8 killer out of one of these. Hellcat supercharger bolts on the 5.7 now

I bought a 2006 Commander, sight unseen back in January 2021, and drove it 1900 miles home. I love everything but the mpg.

Pardon me B, but I'd like to know from the peeps in the comments, what they think of the Wrangler line vs the Commander? 🤷🏾♂️
If you do lift it go with the old man emu shocks that lifts 1.25 and emu coils with new coils insulators also u should get the upper control arms from jba offroad to fix the positive camber
I'm all over it, Dude. Thanks for the recommendation!
I love the idea! I'm a little scared for you, my friend owned a Commander, and he had some driveline issues. Can't wait to see what mods you choose!
Thanks! Yeah, Jeeps aren't really known for their reliability, but we are going find out if the rumors are true! Thanks for watching.
That's good to hear!! I hope I have the same luck! Thanks for watching!
How's the 3,7? I herd very underpowered for the size of it
Looks fun! Enjoy it man.

Thanks for the tip! I had Falken tires on my Tacoma back in the day and really liked them.
Why do people keep calling this vehicle "ugly"! I just bought one and thing its stance, body style and interior looks are fantastic!

When do u engage tow mode and what does it do??
You use it when you are towing something and I believe it effects the gearing. With that being said, I have never used it because I don't tow anything. Thanks for watching!

Good luck.
