What.
Finally, some one who treats a food grinder like a food grinder. Thank you!
Good job instead of one thing - you didn't sharpen it. It's clear to see on your trial with meat. To make it sharp and usable you have to polish grill and knife on flat surface so tight, that you'll feel molecular forces. Then it will slice all the stuff into mesh, not squeese it.
Oh, thank you for your feedback, I will sharp it and try it again.
@@gear_show did the sharpening work
After sharpening he needs to put a washer, perhaps plastic, between the knife and the feeder axle and a rubber washer on the outer rim between the plate and the ring that holds it in place. This way he will easily have the desired friction for grinding and not mushing the meat. Great video.
in the end I think you forgot to sharpen the knife
Yes I forgot it, that why It hard to cut meat.
🤫👍🏼
That's what I thought, meat was just crushed
Exactly you are right
gear show
Also(the disc with all holes) I could see in the video that all those holes lost their sharp edge as well. A fine grit belt sander will solve that.
I think it’s called the extruder plate.

ElTurbinado I know your being sarcastic
Its antique chinesium from the "Rus Ting" dynasty!
A file and some 320 grit sandpaper will sharpen the cutters.
Plus freeze the meat until it just starts to get ridged (about 10-15 minutes for the small slices) it will grind 100% better.
Thank you so much for your tips.

Super sweet restoration. Really nice job. Looks brand new.
You rounded off the cutting plate holes so it doesn't cut clean. Plate needs to be resurfaced or replaced.
You can also see at 10:46 that the chopper blade is not sharpened. The blade and the plate need to be perfectly flat against each other to properly grind. That's why the grind coming out of this one looked like wet worms. He is mashing this meat, not grinding it.
The restoration was beautiful. Just two last steps (plate and blade sharpening) and this would be a really good machine.
Peter Radloff you guys are so Goddamn critical..
@@iMapleCreatorDo you want a nice looking slab of iron or do you want a meat grinder?
And yes, we are goddamn critical, that's why we enjoy watching meticulous people painstakingly recreate perfect machines from garbage.
It's called a mincer plate and yes the holes are designed to be sharp acting as half the cutting edge along with the 4 blade knife.
@@PrometheusZandski that makes roughly 90% of youtube make way more sense now. Well said.
Great work but blade and grid hole sharpening is missing. I guess that's why it wasn't grinding well.

Hello from Portugal! Thank you so much I have one from my grand mother can,t wait to try .
You're welcome :)
Thanks friend. Very good work. I do not know what is called the method you use to remove the oxide, it seems an electrolytic method, you can also use vinegar plus concentrated lemon juice or vinegar plus baking soda alone you have to leave the pieces and the results submerged for three days They are excellent. I congratulate you for your work and I leave you a greeting from Argentina. Please sorry for my English.
Good job right down to the classic way to clean the food grinder by using bread! I always run bread through mine after I grind as it makes cleaning a breeze.

You cleaned the device beautifully. You made one mistake, the blades cut the blades flat on the grinder. Then the machine would have had and it did not crush the meat, Besides, it's ok. Regards Andrew

No idea what your saying guess it's the same as the rest of the world....... Shit!!
loxxxton poxxxton he said working parts of this device must be sharped to grind meat well. And the restoration of this meat grinder is the lost time in vain.
That screw is brand new. Does that mean someone was actually using it to make tetanus burgers?
yeah i saw it to, i assume that it actually was more worn than it looked and that it was in a spot shielded well from rust
the screw would've been made with a higher carbon content and it would've been heat treated both make the screw more resistant to rust rather than the cast iron
@@dovobis I believe you are spot on! As soon as I saw how easy that thing came apart I knew he already took it apart and put it back together. What a waste of time and electricity for a cheap iron cast made in china piece of crap! As Tylor Miranda

Great video. Thanks for sharing!!
My sister has one of those (it belonged to my mother before her) and, I don't know if you know that, but you're missing a piece : one that pushes the meat down the hole and keep it there. That how you avoided from loosing a finger :) I understand that the piece was probably missing when you you bought that meat grinder though. My sister his still using it ;)
And you missed defining your sister as a he.😂
Jk peace.😂
Yeah, get that meat in the hole
Not all of them are built with one. Some have to be pushed manually.
It's usually a piece of wood shaped just right.
I understand that no one here knows that the meat grinder knife should be sharpened including the author, after which it becomes much easier to work
Impresionante! Lo felicito!
I work with meat grinders every day at work. The plate and blade need to be thrown away. They can only be used so much before they need machined. That's what is causing the plate to clog up and is what is causing the thin spaghetti effect.
On stainless plates and blades, when do you give up, mine is shiny from grinding. It looks like it's squared the plate. But I guess eventually the plate will get too thin?
For private use, a set of plate and blade should last a lifetime if you clean it and dont use them often. If you use them often, the best way to see if you need to replace them/send them to the grinder, is when the grinded meat isnt cleanly cut. Both the plate and the blade can get to thin :-) Also to preserve the set, tighten lightly until the meat is just before the set. Then tighten hard. Regards the butcher :-)
@@ssmatthews6798 Thanks! No, I only use them about 5-7 times per year to grind deer meat into burger. I double grind, so double that usage. I just wondered, you can see where the plate is shiny on both sides now, I guess it's nice and square. Blade looks almost new. It's a LEM 3/4 HP commercial grinder. #12. Plate and blade are stainless steel.
Just tighten it
@@Clearanceman2 it should be no space between the (good) blade and the (good) plate. Shiny is a sign of friction, worn out. A space of a thickness of a sheet of paper will mess up the grinding.
Nice to see old, neglected tools brought back to life.
Seems the cutting blades could use a WEE bit of sharpening? :)
Great job,,
I have two identical ones with it.
The pieces are complete and Good Condition 👌.
I'll send them to you 🤔.
Good job on that meat grinder, I think you use a wood tamp to push on the meat as you add meat. Thanks for the video that was a lot of work!!

@@GummyBear069 I would have just busted this up with a sledgehammer and scrapped it.
It's for the cat.. lol..
Nasty grinder
The last time I heard that was when TRUMP was talking about HorseFace Danials!!!!!!!
There would have been a flat-bottomed fitted wooden pusher fitted to just go into the upper input hole and allow you to hand-push the meat/bread/whatever down into the rotating screw, designed so that its bottom end could not itself touch that screw. You do not want to put your fingers inside there when it is working. You also need to put some bread into the machine at the end to force the last of whatever you are grinding through the front, which would only waste that small end piece of whatever you are grinding mixed with that bread pusher material. My grandmother had such a grinder, but it was larger with a much longer handle to grind tough meat, which she let me turn as a child when helping her cook. Great fun!
Great job, thank you brother. You are so talented
Maravilloso trabajo!
I would have boiled this thing twice to make sure that all bacteria are dead. And i would have sharpened the cuters. You should probably do that too
The electrolysis boiled even the parasites of the bacteria ig xdd
What a wonderful video from Chile..Sudamerica.
Je vous dis bravo. Pour faire tout ce travail. Il faut de la patience 👍👏👏👌
Doesn't look like it was worth the trouble.
I would have just smashed this up with a sledgehammer and scrapped it.
He forgot to sharpen the blade, it's why he was having so much trouble. Who knows it could work great if sharpened 🤷♀️.
The meat still looked a grey colour even after he " cleaned " the mincer. Best place for this thing is in a museum!
You can buy these new.
Perhaps a good old WD-40 would have saved a couple of hours... 🤔
"Antique" meat grinder. Made in China...🤔. Hmmm...
Many years ago, before mass production in China, actually there were some quality products that were coming from China, like sphygmomanometers.
Craftsman MK there are still many quality products from China. But many importers all around the world would rather profit from a quick flip so they order the cheaper ones instead of the more expensive ones that are better quality. I see this happen in my own country. I compare stuff we import with things that I have purchased in China directly, and there’s a huge difference.

The blades could have used a bit of sharpening, it would have make your ground ham (I think its ham) come out more easily. Also, NEVER use your hand to push down on meat in the grinder, as your fingers can very well get crushed in there. Maybe not to the point that you'd lose a finger, as it is a small manual grinder, but a bigger one could. An old butcher colleague of mine lost some fingers to an industrial one that way.
Blades and grinding plate need refinished
