I regard Deadwood as some of the finest "theater" ever produced. The tragedy of Deadwood's demise is dwarfed by the devastating news that Alzheimer's has silenced this man's mind.
I have only recently discovered Deadwood and got the boxset and cannot stop watching it.. It is probably more life like of that time than anything I usually see in Westerns.. Yet another gem from HBO..
There have been some brand damaging decisions over the years, Decca Records was beyond sorry they turned down the Beatles in 1962, a decision which left an indelible stain on the company's name. So too with HBO, their executives have permanently damaged the network's reputation. They may deserve whichever praises come their way about the good shows they've given us but the final words will always be, "well and good but you cancelled Deadwood!" There'll be no living that down and it's a retort which will suck the air out of any room they're in.
Who can put the glory of God into words. His glory is lived in billions of lives like shooting stars. Dead wood is the poor words we grasp at as life has passed on to new things, with laughing feet. It is the tragi-comic glory of men to attempt to put life in a bottle. The laughing feet are calling.
This guy fascinates me. He's pretty fuckin intelligent. I really had hoped they'd revive the show, or did a reboot. Them doing the movie, showed it was possible. It would've been sad to see it without Powers Boothe though. He was so good as Cy Tolliver. SPOILER WARNING.....I know they indicated that Al dies at the end of the movie. But they could figure out a way to make him still be alive. It only showed him go to sleep as Trixy prayed over him. That was the final shot of the movie. Deadwood deserves to be on again. Especially when quite a few people, became fans way after they canceled it. There's a TON of fans nowadays. So they should really try a revival of the show. I heard David Milch has Alzheimer's now. Even if he does, Im sure he had help writing on the show. Someone could probably pull it off. Even if the dialogue isn't written AS good as his was written.
"This is the lie I'm telling myself, so I don't set fire to anything," the man slips casually into his elaborate rationalization for the series ending prematurely. lol
@@benisrood Cost as the reason for the abrupt end doesn't really add up. The set was almost entirely self contained and it was a character driven show too. It was precisely because the whole thing was written and filmed in one place that they could and often did alter scenes and rewrite dialogue as they went. Would producers indulge like that that if a show that is costing lot of money to make? I don't think so. We will never know precisely why it was cancelled but back office politics is a more likely explanation. I think somebody pissed somebody else off or one group of people pissed another group of people off.
Stop making excuses. You mean to tell us that when you came up with the idea for "Deadwood" that you intended from the start to never reach a concluding end? BS. "Deadwood" was a really good series but the ratings were not, cancelled.

What a crime cancelling that show was. A great work of art. Brilliant writing, acting, directing. I rewatch it every couple of years.

Game of Thrones "ending" FAR more financially devastating.

"He wants me to tell him something pretty."
cellio9 Nice.
a 4th season would be so easy AND NEEDED to close this amazing story.
One of the greatest show ever on tv. Of course, I liked it and it got canceled.
I think this man has a certain genius.
_Thank you for coming to my DEAD Talk!_

😂Doesn’t get any better than that!!!!
I loved this show from the begining. All I wanted was more more more.
A Shakespearean Western.
I've always said the exact same thing bro
Not really related, but Titus Welliver (Silas Adams) does an incredible impression of David.
His impersonations are amazing!
He is so brilliant LOVED this show ! Was definitely dev when HBO pulled the plug before all characters development!!! 😢
This man is so brilliant
This guy must be a genius I can't understand what the .... he's talking about
He's squirming as he annunciates his thoughts. That's a DEEP mfr

The best show out there. Fuck HBO !
I wonder why it got canceled like it was a great show than it just stopped out of no where for no real reasons
Cisco4kid1990 you know there’s a 2h movie coming out in April? They shot it this fall!!
On HBO. DEADWOOD THE MOVIE
It was critically acclaimed and the fans who watched it and loved it but it still had low ratings compared to the cost of the show.
Is it true that back in the day of early HBO they did not let a series go past 3 episodes?
What is syllogism?
I love Milch but what the fuck did he just say?
Deadwood was destined to never be around for as long as the fans wanted because of the all the competing interests in it's production.
He could have had a 4th season of six episodes.
He let his anger get the better of him.
Bullshit Deadwood should have been 5 to 6 seasons long or longer.
Bet it was cancelled because some of those penny sniffers didn't make enough money
Isn’t that what everything is about?

And when was the last time you spoke non-stop for four minutes without pausing to consider your words?

He's such a windbag. Just make your point, please, David.
