I have always wondered how Neil played this song and now I do , Your cool Shane at first I couldn't take it all in but its actually a great way to explain , very original and very good.
Great Job! I really enjoy your videos. You have a knack for teaching, especially for those of us who are not naturally talented and really have to work at it. Thanks.
Shane, been watching a few other Popular Guitar Channels over the last year or so. I appreciate their content, time, and effort; and they most certainly got my interest in guitar to where it is today. However, your vids are really First Class! The multi-view is seamless and adds a great way to keep the viewer engaged. Your descriptions both verbal and visual are very clear, and I like that you tell us when things differ from the Original Artists technique. I like your confident and encouraging approach, and the way you break things down, make things seem manageable and easier to comprehend. Thank you!
A big thank you Duo Buckets - what a great comment to receive - very encouraging! I'll keep at it and I really hope you continue to enjoy the videos - Cheers! Shane
Another great video, my guitar instructor wanted to show me this but I couldn't follow him as he was going to fast. So checked yours out and voila.. you did it again. Thanks
You are good teacher. I just wanted to be able to play wish you were here and Neil young hey hey my my. I think I've become obsessed with learning more. Thank you.
Thanks Shane. Another great instructional video. I received the music sheets within minites of my request. Good to have a reference site with no sales pitches or ads. Bob
I’ve had guitar lessons for about a year now so I know some chords and songs and stuff but your videos really show how to play a specific song. I love that, also because I like the selection of the songs. So thanks again!
My very first song I learned on the guitar was A Horse With No Name by listening to your video which was great btw. After that I couldn't find a song I liked and wanted to learn until today when I came back to your channel and the first thing I saw was this and it's great. Easy to learn, simple enough but a good song nonetheless. Keep doing these video man, they are really inspiring!
this one turned out to be fun once you learn that Neil Young bass note run into the chord play.. so much of his great stuff I was amazed how easily The Unknown Legend from the Harvest Moon album is to play utilizing that same exact Style
It took me forty years to realize Neil played this with the guitar tuned down a whole step. I remember the first time I listened to Rust Never Sleeps, in 1983 or so, and this song sent chills down my back. It's his masterpiece. I wanted to play it so badly. I learned knew how to play the electric version no problem - it's in standard tuning, but playing it that way on the acoustic doesn't work for me - it needs to be in G minor or the impact is lost. I figured Neil had a capo at the third fret, but from there I couldn't determine what he was doing. I eventually just gave up. I learned pretty much every Neil Young song other than this one. Then recently I learned that Tell Me Why, which I'd always played in standard tuning, in downtuned a whole step - then I put two and two together.
How about the unplugged version of "World on a String"? I've seen a bunch of covers that don't cut it. It has some interesting parts to it, and I know you could do it justice, Shane. Just like these other Young breakdowns.
Hey Shane, I was looking for Neil Young's "comes a time", I have looked at some tab which shows Am and some say F, I dont like either version, hoping you might add this your many requests you get. I also know you will have a better technique for base strum suited to this song, time for a comprehensive Shane Simpson lesson.... thanks mate...
For sure - glad to have you here. Older Songsheets are freely downloadable at guitaratwork.ca Just look for the ‘Download Songsheets’ button at the top of the main page. It will take you to a series of folders full of songs. Cheers! Shane
