Learn how to play Give a Little Bit, as performed by Supertramp released in 1977 on their Even in the Quietest Moments album. A great song that sounds great on any acoustic guitar, but especially epic on a 12 string acoustic.
The lesson covers all the guitar parts in the song, all the chords are very accessible even for beginners. Though the chords are pretty easy, there is a LOT of them, so get ready to exercise almost all your "cowboy" chord shapes with this one.

When he says it - it’s so simple. That’s what good teachers do. The explanation of the chords around 12:00 is so good and valuable.

Well we certainly grew up during the Golden Age of guitar tunes. I got my first 12-string (a Yamaha) at age 16, because of Genesis Supers' Ready, and Led Zep III. Then it was Even in the Quietest Moments, and the real mind blower was Pat Metheny New Chitaqua. Led Zep III was various open tunings so I had to get more 12-strings (a Takamini and a Guild). In high school, while my buddies were downstairs playing Montrose and Deep Purple for the guys, I was upstairs with my 12-string playing Neil Young and Supertramp for the ladies. Now, 45 years later, I just got my Taylor 12-string back from the Taylor repair shop, and was looking for a refresher, and found your lesson. Great job! and Thanks! I play by myself 'cause I'm old and half my band has died of cancer. But every time I strap in and play The Song Remains The Same, I feel 17 years old again.

Terrific lesson on a great song! The only suggestion would be to play the whole song through at the beginning or end to put it all together.

That tune is the reason for my wish to learn the guitar. My friend was playing it on his 12 string guitar, but I had the wisdom to begin learning guitar with a 6 string. After 1 year, I was glad to please my ears with the glorious sound of a 12 string. We were in 1979. But I learned all the details of the song from start to finish only in the years 2000, thank to Internet

I got spoiled, my friend who's been teaching and playing in bands for more than 60 years dropped off his 70's lawsuit era Takamine solid Mahogany 12 string for me to play around with, thank you for showing me all the chords to play one of my favorite bands songs, the only problem is I just bought a new Squier Ruby Red Anniversary Gold Edition Strat and now I also want a 12 string to go along with my six string acoustic, I'm going to buy used this time and stick to the Godin line of guitars to get the quality and sound for way less the cost of a Martin or Taylor. Thanks again.

I love this! Thanks so much for this lesson. It’s probably the best all-around lesson I’ve seen for the song, which I’ve been playing since I was in high school, maybe even Jr high in the late 70s. I have a Taylor 12 string, and this song sounds glorious on that guitar. Thank you for the super complete overall lesson on all of the chords in the song. It really is a gorgeous song, and this is the best lesson I’ve found for it. Cheers!

Great lesson, and I agree, this is the prototypical 12 string song. Funny, it seems like 12 strings sound great with songs in D. I've read some notes taken during the recording of this song, and the amount of doubling/tripling on the guitar parts is staggering. Lots of 12 electrics and acoustics, all playing the same parts.

If you want to go budget: I just bought a Enya NOVA Go SP1 Carbon Fiber Acoustic Electric Guitar, they have special as well as Amazon for $229. Or get a Yamaha FG800 list at $229 but it goes on sale or a Yamaha F335 for under $200 - Solid beginner guitars. Or from Canada an Art & Lutherie which are a great value. There are so many great acoustic guitars out there that there is no reason a professional guitarist like yourself doesn’t have a good acoustic guitar.

First string is on the F# note, second string is on the D note, 3rd and 4th are open and the 5th string is not played, the 6th string is the G note. The 6th string is played with the thumb.
