- Here's an amazing strumming song! We go through the chords and strumming patterns together slowly and with plenty of detail. Sections are clearly marked onscreen so you can follow along easily. This one is a classic - you'll love it!

Thank you Jack - happy to have you here. Cheers! Shane
My youngest son Mischa (he passed away 16 months ago) was kind of addicted to your channel and lessons. More than ever, i now understand why.

Bert
Thank you Bert - that’s super. Cheers, Shane
@@GuitarAtWork - that's a generic 'AI' response to that very moving story by a subscriber. Did you actually read it?
Bert, Im sorry of your loss. My son youngest son passed away a few years ago. His music is in my computer. Music sings what the heart is feeling. Im learning to play some of his favorite songs. Grief is a wonky and awkward journey. Blessings :)
Yep, less talk, more show! This is what I wish ALL "lesson" vids were like! Thank you!
Your song instructions are the best of any I have used on RUclips. Thank you!
A big thank you Ron - so great to get a comment like yours. Very glad to have you here with us! Shane
Yeah, what Ron Said! THIS is exactly what "other" instruction courses are missing. Just don't want to spend 20 minutes on "baby" stuff. We all know where the fretboard is. Just get on with it! THANK YOU for moving through it. MOVING through it! Git-R-DONE! :D
I agree
Been playing this for years, just checking you out
That was an absolute masterclass on how to teach someone a song. You could not possibly have done that better. I would be stoked beyond words to have you as a guitar teacher. Again, you are amazing at what you do. Thank you so much!
Thank you Berliozi - such a great comment to receive - greatly appreciated and my best to you in 2022!

Hadn't even thought of learning this one, but seeing how you broke this one down, I'll get on it. I've focused on flat picking and finger style for a bit. Time to get back into some rhythm strumming. Thank s from BC for the lesson!
This has become my favourite song to play on guitar and part of my regular jam sessions since I discovered this a few months ago. Such a happy vibe playing it! Thanks again Shane!
That’s SO great. Thank you and all the best! Shane

You explain better than ANYONE on You Tube!! 💯🎸🤙 I THANK YOU very much. More of "Chevy Van", Ride like the Wind", "Cool Change"...etc. ✌🌎 We ARE following you brother. Great job....

Fantabulous Shane Top Man!
Thanks for the great lesson! This song is one of my absolute favorites and I watched your video mostly to check if I had gotten anything wrong when learning it from RUclips videos years ago. I had to piece it together from different videos because none had it right all together. Thanks again
Super - thanks for that. Best to you! Shane
Thanks again for this great comprehensive lesson Shane. You demystify a few parts I was playing wrong for many years!
Thank you Akwan - so great to hear that. Have fun with it and I am happy to have you here with us!
Shane
What a catchy song Shane , thanks for this one.
Thanks Billy - such a great song for sure. Cheers!
Shane
watched this lesson without my guitar to get a feel for it and it's looking good. i learned salsbury hill last year from this guy and like he said it was a doozy it took me a year to learn but that lesson was rock solid and this lesson looks rock solid too. I've always wanted to learn this song the way it's meant to be played and this lesson sounds like the real deal to me. I'm looking forward to getting into this one :)
You are the best guitar teacher in the world.
Thank you Candie - that’s SUCH a nice message to read. My very best to you! Shane
Thanks again, Shane! Love this tune.

Shane
Love this song. I learned to play it a few months ago with a capo on the first fret. Some chords are a little different especially the outdo. Either way this song sounds great. Always enjoy your sessions. Thanks
Thanks Chris - Glad to have you with us! Shane
Thanks Shane, when l heard this beautiful song l always though that its only for 12 strings. But the beautiful sound of your 6 strimgs encourage me to follow your tutorial and....l finally got it...you inspired me to grab my 6 strings and learn the ( once for me ) complex group of chords and play this great acoustic classic....Thanks so much and regards man...
Thank you Luis - So happy to hear that. My best to you! Shane
Great lesson! Excellent teaching skills! Thank you…
Thanks Will - my best to you, Shane
Rejean Martin
Thanks very much Shane , you teach in details and it is very pleasant to see how you do with accent ; you certainly have the ability and give the envy to take our guitar and play . Yup , You are an amazing teacher! So clear . Continue your good work !
Thank you Rejean - glad to have you here! Shane
Love your work, Shane. Really appreciate the extra work you put in to ensure the guitar play is authentic (especially the strumming)!
If I can make a request, I'd love to see you tackle Sweet Baby James, although I know Taylor's mix of fingerpicking and strumming is a serious challenge. Either way, much respect!
A big thank you for that EJ - my very best to you and great song request. Cheers! Shane
Great job. Thanks!
Thanks! Shane
I wish there was a play-along in this video. They are sooooooo helpful!
Thank you Gerry - agreed! Shane
Awesome lesson. Thanks.
Thank you for that - hope you have fun with it!
Shane
Thank you!
An excellent tutorial from an excellent song.
Seriously you're the best teacher I've ever seen on RUclips.
Could you teach to play "rainy day" by America? I've been searching for a tutorial on RUclips but I don't understand any of those.
Another great one Shane
Thank you Johnny - all the best to you lad!
Shane
Yes sir! With the arthritis slowing me down these days it’s nice to keep the bar chords at a minimum. Thanks for the lesson bud. 😎
Take best care of those hands man - Cheers! Shane
I love this song Shane, I still have problems with bar cords, but I know it's just the arthritis. I ended up putting nylon strings on one of my guitars, made a world of difference for me. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Take care of yourself and your family.
From Charlie.
Thanks Charlie - all the best with it - keep at it, you'll nail it. Best to you,
Shane
I really love your style My Brother!✌💖🙏
Thanks Ed - much appreciated! Shane

A superb lesson Shane. Do like your right Hand strumming switched to "Auto Pilot" mode👍✈️. Thank you!
Hi Shane! Really enjoying this one! Any chance you're gonna post a play along to this? Keep up the great work!!
Very nice playing m8
Have subscibed ...Super stuff 👍👍✌✌
I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on the song "Pieces of April" by Three Dog Night?
There are not many tutorials for that song and the ones I've seen are not that good... Would love to learn the introduction to the song as well.
Thanks for all you do!!!
Hi Shane you are an amazing teacher the strumming part looks easy but so many chords to put into place would love to learn this song as I love every Supertramp song I just love love Roger Hodgson he is so hard not to watch he has it all. Does it take long to learn as I am only on to my 6th lesson and just started really love the sound if the guitar I played the piano for 6 yrs trying out the guitar hope to master it otherwise I would love to go back to piano but in electric piano
Thank you Lena - it's such a great song for sure. Hope you're having fun with it. Cheers, Shane
Great vid...just joined your patreon...looking forward to learning with you....
Thank you Chris - very glad to have you with us! Keep me posted on how you’re doing. Cheers! Shane
Sir. This is the best RUclips tutorial for this song. Kudos to u. Can u please share with me the Beat Buddy patch or drum beat u use for this song?
Thank you Ken - greatly appreciated. Sorry I cannot remember the BPM offhand but I’m pretty sure I used the Blues 1 setting on the BeatBuddy. Cheers! Shane
I love this! Can you do "That Thing You Do"?
Thanks a lot
Glad you enjoyed. Cheers, Shane
Thank you for the wonderful lessons, you have a fantastic style. What Taylor acoustic model is your guitar? Sorry if you’ve been asked a million times 😀
Another great vid Shane. Suggestion for future lesson: Joan Osborne's Crazy Baby.
Thanks Shane! Jamie in N.H
Great!!! The hardest thing is The tempo. It takes a lot of practice. Thanks.
Thanks Luis - the speed will come if you practice it slowly for a bit. Have fun with it! Shane
Great tutorial as usual! So thorough!!
I am not sure if I am hearing something different in the recording, but I've always muted the high E #1 string on the standard G chords, therefore the 3rd fretted note on the B string is the highest note in that chord. It is a minor puzzle and it could just be me.
Any other opinions?
Thanks Phil - much appreciated. I am definitely hearing that high E (G note) on the recording. Hope you're doing well and always happy to have you with us! Shane
Hey Shane. What model is your guitar? Do u have a good recommendation for a good guitar under $500? Thanks.
yu are good bro
Thanks John - hope you are doing well with it. Cheers! Shane
Would you please do soldiers things by Tom waits
great video, checked the comments (not all) no one asked what the last chord was
👌
I really like your channel. Very easy to follow. Sorry, but I have to ask about the long sleeve. Is that a guitar thing or a medical thing?
Playing Give A Little Bit on a 6 string is like Beethoven's 5th on a tin whistle.
Nah - sounds fuller on the 12 for sure Robert but there's plenty good about the 6 string on this song. Cheers, Shane
Excellent. The original song is played with a 12 string. The 12 will make it sound more authentic.
Thanks - it sure sounds great on a 12. Cheers, Shane
I would say F# instead of Fm# in the sax section. And Roger does not use a barre chord. Instead he pass his big fat finger over the neck and press with it the 6th string in second fret. Then, in the same F# chord (before change to Bm) he strums putting and quitting - putting and quitting fingers 4 and 5. He does not put Bm barre chord either. He leave open 5th string, so it is a Bm7 chord (or Bm/A) (hard to explain in words in non native language haha, sorry...)
BTW I have NEVER seen Roger putting a barre chord on acoustic guitar
Alguien sabe que modelo es está guitarra marca Taylor?
Hi there - I’m using a Taylor 814CE. I really love it. Cheers, Shane
@@GuitarAtWork muchas gracias por todo saludos musicales
I love this song, so much, at least musically. But the lyrics creep me out a little, in places.
Wow !! Good instructions. But a bit over my head.
You should have a beginners course online
Where is the written stuff? 💥
Hi John - patreon.com/guitaratwork
Great guitar tutorial. But, to me, it would be perfect, if you were playing at the end of the lesson, the totally of the song. It could be interesting to have the total comprehension of the tutorial.
Thanks Gilles - a good point for sure. I do that on some songs but not all. Cheers,
Shane
They are all A7 those shapes from 813 on until you come into the verse
Outro on cha-ka do day :
xx0010
xx0033
xx0233
xx0433
ooo
Little tough.
Just go at it bit by bit Lawson. You'll get it! Shane
You didn't finish the outro!
Add a D shape at the 14th fret to end it.
Jesus is just alright - Doobie Brothers...
I think your video / tutorials are good. I think they would be much better to play the song all the way through at the beginning of the video. . Just my opinion.
Thanks Mike - most people would click out of the video if I did the whole thing at the beginning......believe me, I read the comments and see the stats. Best to you, Shane
It just *has to* be played on a 12 string, so sorry
Yikes...
